Monday morning sees the launch of our latest captain poll, canvassing your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 7.

Sergio Aguero (13.0) returned from a three-match suspension in style in Gameweek 6 with two goals and maximum Fantasy Premier League bonus points away to Swansea, to reward the 45% in our Captain Poll who backed him with the armband.

Even though the 37.2% owned Manchester City striker faces a far tougher test this weekend at Tottenham Hotspur, it would be no surprise to see him tussle at the top of this week’s poll as well.

The omens are certainly in his favour – Aguero has ten goals from nine appearances against Spurs.

Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6) will likely be challenging Aguero at the top of the poll, after finishing a distance second to the Argentine in Gameweek 6.

A strong home fixture against a Stoke City side that has conceded 15 times this term, coupled with impressive underlying statistics, offer the big Swede a strong case for selection.

No other player has had more goal attempts than the 55.8% owned striker but interest may be tempered by his failure to register returns from the impressive 4-1 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday.

His cut price team-mate Marcus Rashford (6.9) did manage to score against the Foxes, taking his taking to three goals in four Gameweeks. With more than 71,000 new FPL owners so far this week, he is also expected to garner captaincy interest.

Romeu Lukaku (9.3) will also be in the frame. Like Ibrahimovic, the 19.4% owned striker also blanked in Gameweek 6 as Everton slipped to a reverse at Bournemouth. But his Gameweek 7 opponents Crystal Palace have yet to chalk up a clean sheet ahead of Friday’s trip to Goodison Park.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez has three double-digit FPL scores already this season and he looks an potentially effective differential captaincy option. With three goals and two assists in his last two road trips, it is little wonder that the Chilean has attracted more than 76,000 new managers ahead of the Gunners’ visit to Burnley this weekend.

The midfielders minefield at Liverpool is set to split the vote among their key contenders. Sadio Mane (9.0), the 30.3% owned Philippe Coutinho (8.2) and Adam Lallana (11.3) all offer solid options for the armband when they visit a Swansea City outfit that has conceded seven times across their three home fixtures this season. All three of this midfield trio scored at home to Hull City at the weekend to further boost their case.

Although their team-mate Roberto Firmino (8.4) failed to register any attacking returns against the Tigers, the 9.9% owned Brazilian’s strong underlying numbers, including topping Liverpool’s chance creation table this season, should give those keeping faith a degree of confidence. .

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    WATFORD'S DEFENSIVE FITNESS

"The Hornets will be without Netherlands international JANMAAT for up to six weeks after he suffered a fractured shoulder in the 3-1 win against Manchester United last weekend so AMRABAT is poised to get another run in the side in his absence - starting at Turf Moor on Monday night.

Fellow defenders HOLEBAS and KABOUL are also injury doubts, with boss Walter Mazzarri set to give them as long as possible to prove their fitness going into the game."

Benching Kosc in any fixture is pretty bad. Bellerin burned me when I did that last season.
Please learn the lesson even if Holebas is out, you lucky you 😛

It was a calculated risk that didn't pay off. Chelsea been scoring, and Arsenal often bottle it in bigger games, so didn't expect the CS at all. I managed to bench both my CSs this GW unfortunately.

What to do with my FT this week?

    Foster
    Stones, Valencia, Walker
    Sanchez, Antonio, Capoue, Fer
    Aguero, Ibrahimovic, Lukaku

Bench: Valdes, Fletcher, Friend, Pieters; 0.3ITB.

Should I replace Friend/Pieters or just save the FT?

Although I hate your midfield... if that's the strategy you have chosen... save

With KDB injured, the only weakness I can think of is the lack of Liverpool cover. If Zlatan blanks again, then I'll change things up a bit. Any suggestions?

          • 14 Years
          9 years, 9 months ago

I dislike the long-term strategy. It's too inflexible if you need to jump on an expensive midfield bandwagon plus I don't believe Capoue good enough to be a 4th mid let alone a 5th. I'd aim to downgrade your defence or attack and upgrade Fer but objectively for just this gameweek there isn't much wrong with saving the FT

Thanks for the deep analysys, Lawro. Will look at saving the FT this week then, so that I can start planning. As suggested by Burton below, I can to Pieters/Friend ➡ Amat, then possibly downgrade Ibra next week in order to upgrade Fer later for KDB (if/when he's fit), Mane or anyone else. Thoughts?

I'd take money out of defence somehow.

Fair point. Valencia is alright, but Stones is definitely not worth the money after failing to register a CS so far. If I do do Pieters ➡ Amat, though, I'd be left with 0.6ITB. Any suggestions as to who I should get for Stones/Friend?

Looking at the top 10-12 midfielders in the game at the moment, apart from KDB, most of the points are coming from goals rather than assists. It is looking to be the season for the goal scoring midfielders rather than the assisters (Ozil, Payet, Eriksen etc). This worries me as a Firmino owner who is creates chances but rarely shoots. I admit I made a mistake not getting Coutinho rather than Firmino.

He said he might make Friday so I guess we won't know more until the press conference for the Palace game and even then it might be the same answer.

Any thoughts on this Wild Card Team?

    Pickford - Jakupovic
    Stones - Blind/Valencia - Vertonghen - Evans - Amat
    Sanchez - Son - Sterling - Chadli - Capoue
    Aguero - Lukaku - Benteke

Not to keen on the goalkeepers.
And in doubt whether to pick Son or Llalana...

In terms of longevity, Lallana for me

Jaku didn't even start on Saturday.
I got Stones in again - already regret it again.

Thanks, I wasn't aware he didn't start. That totally got past me for some reason.

Marshall conceded 5. Jaku might be back again lol.

Not much Marshall could do about it though. It was a difficult one for him.

Thoughts on getting Snodgrass in this week for Puncheon ? Or do I wait until after their game vs Chelsea?

In terms of Liverpool attacking coverage, what are people's thoughts?
    a) Milner
    b) Mane
    c) Coutinho
    d) Lallana
    e) Mane

    1. Evil Buddha

Mane if you have the money

All good choices apart from Milner and a second Mane

Even with penalties and set pieces in his locker?

He's playing as a left back, so very much oop.

My order would be the following right now

      Mane
      Coutinho
      Firmino
      Lallana

Don't like Milner because you're basically relying on pens

    5. MTPockets

      Lallana

Aside from a), people will have different opinions on the other. Until the back end of the season, nobody will be able to say with any kind of certainty what the right answer is. My advice is to pick 1 and stick with him, don't go chasing.

    B) Lukaku + Rashford + Sterling

Any love for Lallana? If not, why not? he seems like a cheap way into Liverpool's MF and he's in the form of his life

If not him from Pool, who? (can't afford Mane)

Get him while he's hot IMO. His output will inevitably drop in the future

I have him at the minute on my WC but may change. It would only be to Mane though

Easy peasy for me, Bolasie > Lallana I have no other Pool cover

      Front 8 wouold be
      Sterling, Sanchez, Lallana, Capoue, Snodgrass
      Aguero, Costa, Lukaku

Sanchez for a hit, or downgrade KDB to Sterling?

    Foster
    Walker / Williams / Smith
    KDB / Firmino / Antonio / Snodgrass
    Aguero / Costa / Lukaku

    Jaku / Capoue / Amat / Love
