Monday morning sees the launch of our latest captain poll, canvassing your opinion on the likely favourites and differential options for the armband in Gameweek 7.

Sergio Aguero (13.0) returned from a three-match suspension in style in Gameweek 6 with two goals and maximum Fantasy Premier League bonus points away to Swansea, to reward the 45% in our Captain Poll who backed him with the armband.

Even though the 37.2% owned Manchester City striker faces a far tougher test this weekend at Tottenham Hotspur, it would be no surprise to see him tussle at the top of this week’s poll as well.

The omens are certainly in his favour – Aguero has ten goals from nine appearances against Spurs.

Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6) will likely be challenging Aguero at the top of the poll, after finishing a distance second to the Argentine in Gameweek 6.

A strong home fixture against a Stoke City side that has conceded 15 times this term, coupled with impressive underlying statistics, offer the big Swede a strong case for selection.

No other player has had more goal attempts than the 55.8% owned striker but interest may be tempered by his failure to register returns from the impressive 4-1 victory over Leicester City at Old Trafford on Saturday.

His cut price team-mate Marcus Rashford (6.9) did manage to score against the Foxes, taking his taking to three goals in four Gameweeks. With more than 71,000 new FPL owners so far this week, he is also expected to garner captaincy interest.

Romeu Lukaku (9.3) will also be in the frame. Like Ibrahimovic, the 19.4% owned striker also blanked in Gameweek 6 as Everton slipped to a reverse at Bournemouth. But his Gameweek 7 opponents Crystal Palace have yet to chalk up a clean sheet ahead of Friday’s trip to Goodison Park.

Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez has three double-digit FPL scores already this season and he looks an potentially effective differential captaincy option. With three goals and two assists in his last two road trips, it is little wonder that the Chilean has attracted more than 76,000 new managers ahead of the Gunners’ visit to Burnley this weekend.

The midfielders minefield at Liverpool is set to split the vote among their key contenders. Sadio Mane (9.0), the 30.3% owned Philippe Coutinho (8.2) and Adam Lallana (11.3) all offer solid options for the armband when they visit a Swansea City outfit that has conceded seven times across their three home fixtures this season. All three of this midfield trio scored at home to Hull City at the weekend to further boost their case.

Although their team-mate Roberto Firmino (8.4) failed to register any attacking returns against the Tigers, the 9.9% owned Brazilian’s strong underlying numbers, including topping Liverpool’s chance creation table this season, should give those keeping faith a degree of confidence. .

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    Foster, Pickford
    Valencia, Williams, Evans, Collins, Amat
    Sanchez, Sterling, Antonio, Snodgrass, Capoue
    Aguero, Costa, Lukaku

    1FT, 0.0 in bank

    Save FT this week?

Would like to get a Liverpool midfielder, but would need to downgrade Collins to a 4.5 (to get Lallana) or downgrade Costa (to get any of them), either of which would require a -4 hit..

Save. Good to have 2 FTs for international break. Your team is set up nicely

Costa ban imminent though, so I'd be thinking of alternatives soon

Yep, definitely. 2 x FT's during international break and it gives you more flexibility with shipping Collins.

I've played this game for a while but i think this season is easily the most interesting and challenging season we've encountered in a long time.

    - Such a wide variety of options that are correct.
    - No template players apart from Aguero.
    - Atleast 8-9 different approaches
    - At any point, you will not own atleast 3 legit big hitters
    - A huge shift in rankings on a weekly basis
    - Value ups and downs for the same player week on week

I think one will need to strap that knee. Points chasers will be hurt imo.

      The last one resonates.

Guys trying to buy last weeks points will get hurt as FT's have an inherent value.

Am loving the fact that -

      - Big hitters are returning points (even Hazard as earlier in the season)
      - Meaning careful planning of squad budget is paying off.
      - No Kane, Alli and Mahrez fire and forget picks
      - Budget defenders punishing the "go cheap at the back" brigade.

It's suiting the way I play the game perfectly, thankfully!

I think defences are being quite reliable on the whole. We're not getting consistent clean sheets, but any given week I think it's possible to pick out who will get a CS, no? Everton, Chelsea, Spurs, Southampton, Man Utd have all returned a CS in a likely fixture.

Liverpool vs Hull was worth a punt on a Liverpool defender, but many would have said they don't trust the Liverpool defence and were proved right. Perhaps Spurs at Middlesbrough should've been a CS too, but they've picked up a couple of injuries which always can affect things. Man City are always likely to concede if they make a mistake in their possession game.

I agree - much more variety than last year early doors and it feels like with Pep, Jose and Klopp all in the league, and Wenger's team looking good, there are more good, in-form options than ever.

For instance I don't have Sanchez, KDB or Sterling, but am still looking at two green arrows in a row despite an 8 point hit and thanks largely to Coutinho, Capoue and so on.

I tried chasing value early, in the hope it would work like last year, but it quicklly proved a mug's game and now I'm happy to swallow Ibra's value drop (while also, mind you, punting on Rashford).

        Yeah man.
Like take this for a real life example from this season.
Sterling concedes penalty against Stoke. Only goal City conceded in that match. Entire city defence, and their goalkeeper, is punished for losing the clean sheet, but not Sterling. (okay he loses 1 point for a clean sheet, big deal).

Can some one explain the obsession of not having hits?

I have already made hits costing 24 points. The Players I bought in have given me 88 Points. The players I sold earned 22 points in the same weeks. This gives me a profit of 42 points. My squad value is 100.3 and I have 2.8 in the bank.

    Where am I going wrong?

It's not about going wrong. If you can do it and get those kinds of results then fair play to you.
It's the taking hits and it NOT paying off that is the issue.

I managed to not pull off a hit this week. Took a -4 and the player scored a 1 (as did the one I subbed out). Hopefully works out going forward.

    5. Twisted Saltergater

The problem is that not all transfer hits work, and the players at the top pre-plan to have the players your bringing in for a hit, so are already 4 or 8 points to the better.

As ever, it's a balance and a bit of luck.

    6. Sjaugen
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 9 months ago

It's often like gambling with stacked odds.
You're betting against the points the sold player would get, plus a 100% sure -4

    7. Worzel Gummidge
      9 years, 9 months ago

      GW3 you did 2 transfers.

      New players = 4 points
Old players = 5 points + 2 points from bench as Carroll didn't start

      You have lost 7 points.

Cant be bothered doing the other GWs.

      1. The Polymath
        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 9 months ago

I know GW3 didn't pay off. If I include the benched 2 points I lost 3 points overall.
If you had been bothered to do the other GW's you will see they proved far more profitable.

        1. Worzel Gummidge
          9 years, 9 months ago

          GW4.

          New players = 14 points
Old players = 13 points from Capoue off bench if you kept Aguero + 2 points

          You have lost 5 points.

          Need I go on?

        2. Worzel Gummidge
          9 years, 9 months ago

Plus GW3 you lost 7 points not 3 as you need to include the -4!!
