Clean sheets have been rare beasts this season, with half of all Premier League teams managing no more than one – and five none at all – in seven attempts so far.

Sides recording consecutive shut-outs are even thinner on the ground.

Manchester United managed two in a row in August, Southampton are currently on a three-match run of their own and Arsenal went into the international break with back-to-back clean sheets.

The Saints will face both Manchester City and Chelsea over the next three Gameweeks, however, leaving the Gunners looking the likeliest to continue their fine defensive form once their players’ latest national chores are done.

With that in mind, in this latest members article we assess their recent defensive performances, analysing Arsenal against other resilient rearguards before checking out the merits of Arsene Wenger’s preferred back-four.

When Kane returns I think Eriksen, Son and Lamela will play in the attacking 3 behind Kane. Ali will drop into the pivot but will bomb forward Ramsey style. Will this have a negative effect on their defence? Poch has hinted at this sort of 4141 formation.

Hard to know if Son will be impacted negatively. We haven't seen him play with Kane before. Not in this current form anyway. Lamela will drop out before Son on current form.

I would go Wilson and then swap to Austin by the time you get rid of Redmond.

What I like about Austin is his min/GA.

I'll try and explain my situation right now.

Hear me out, please. So this is my team:

                    Foster

                    Valencia Stones Friend

                    Alexis Walcott Firmino Redmond

                    Aguero Lukaku Rondon

                    (Jaku/Capoue/JEvans/Amat)

1 FT, WC intact and 2.3 banked.

                    So I've got two conundrums:

The first is whether who to get rid of Rondon for. The options are:

                    A) Deeney (mid,swa,HUL,liv)

                    B) CWilson (HUL,TOT,mid,SUN)

                    C) Defoe (sto,whm,ARS,bou)

If I get Deeney, I would be able to upgrade Redmond to Son/Lallana/Arnautovic next week.

If I get CWilson, I would be able to get Coutinho/Son/Lallana/Arnautovic

If I get Defoe, I could only get Lallana or Arnautovic so that somewhat limits my options

So basically this decision effects my Redmond upgrade next week too.

The second conundrum is whether to get rid of Valencia for a hit for an Ars def. My defence is a shambles for the next two weeks.

GW 8: Foster (TOT) , Friend (WAT) , Valencia (liv), Stones (EVE)

GW 9: Foster (liv), Amat (WAT), Valencia (che), Stones (SOU)

                    1. Christina.

Similar to me then. I also have 2 FT's and also own Valencia.

Risky doubling up on Livp AND Arsenal. Could work of course...

                      😕

Yep. But Wilson/Deeney would allow me to keep my options open as opposed to Defoe.

You reckon Valencia to an Ars def is worth a hit given the defence I have?

I'd definitely take a hit for an Arsenal defender (good chance of attacking points too)

Safe as in, if Sanchez goes big I will get the points like many others, and if he doesn't I won't be left behind.

I did a massive post about Alexis playing.

Compared to last time he got rested, he plays the same amount of games (4) and does it with 2 days extra rest + he has Ludogrets instead of PSG in the CL

I was one of the only people on here saying he is a big risk for the Saints game

....''safe'' as in any given player can blank in any given game. Won't be the first time and won't be the last.

When Costa gets his 5th yellow before 31st of December, he'll be suspended for 1 game. What happens when he gets his 6th yellow before 31st of December?

I think that he simply accrues bookings until he reaches 10, when he gets banned for 2 more games. Not 100% sure but I think that's how it works.

Probably got his dates mixed up. Would be massively surprised if he got tactically rested for Leicester. He might get booked, he might not get booked. If he plays in the Utd game he will DEFINITELY get booked so he can serve his suspension during the League cup fixture.

Thoughts on what I should do
    1FT
    5.7ITB
    WC still available

    Schmeichel
    Valencia / Evans / Stones
    Firmino / Antonio / Bolasie / Redmond
    Aguero / Deeney / Lukaku

    Jaku / Capoue / Pieters / Friend

Im thinking Redmond or Bolasie out. Sanchez perhaps.

If I was you I would look to get Sanchez in and then an Arsenal or Tot defender over Stones possibly by downgrading Capoue.

Wait for the internationals to be over first though. Personally I wouldn't WC. I think you're team looks ok.

    Current team:

    Heaton
    Valencia Pieters Collins
    Sanchez (c) Firmino Antonio Townsend
    Aguero Lukaku Rashford

    Subs: Foster, Watmore, Amat, Williams.

    0.4 ITB

This weekend should I go for:

    1. Antonio & Valencia to Arnautovic & Mustafi (-4)

    2. Antonio to Arnautovic

    3. Other

My plan is to remove Valencia & Collins in the coming weeks and I also fancy a punt on Arnautovic too for Antonio. Thoughts please?

I would hold Antonio for this week. See how he performs against Palace.

Personally I would drop Collins first maybe for a Bournemouth defender.

Thanks for reply mate. I am a little torn what to do because it is possible that Antonio will do well this week. I just thought against Man Utd Stoke showed signs of improvement. Antonio's price is going to drop this week and if it does I can't then do those transfers. The other thing is I really want Arsenal cover at the back over next few weeks.

I don't fancy Bournemouth defensively though generally 4.5 defenders aren't providing much value.

Tough. I have Antonio but bought him at 7 so this drop doesn't affect my selling value.

Personally I wouldn't touch Stoke. Don't fancy Snodgrass? But I agree an Arsenal def is a must and a good long term move.

    Thinking of doing:

Zuniga & Ibra > Bellerin & Benteke for a -4 (think Bellerin will make this up over the next few weeks)

Which would leave me 1.8 ITB to next week do Chadli > Alli, assuming no injuries etc.

yeah they aren't the best. out of those i think city is the hardest, liverpool i can see him scoring against and leicester aren't as strong defensively (yet) as they were last season.

Other candidates are in the picture such as Austin, Deeney, Wilson etc. Coin toss as to the best option

I like that. Bellerin is a machine and easily downgraded if needs must.

United just don't score enough. I don't care what people say about Zlatan, the reason they are bombing him is because he costs a joke 11.5 playing in that team. Can do so much more with that money.

Yep exactly. Bellerin is fantastic and can see him picking up some assists or gaols in those fixtures too. Plus as you say i can downgrade if needed.

Would love to keep zlatan but the money is needed eleswhere, would give me a midfield of Alli, Coutinho, Sanchez & Snodgrass which im fairly happy with.
