Clean sheets have been rare beasts this season, with half of all Premier League teams managing no more than one – and five none at all – in seven attempts so far.

Sides recording consecutive shut-outs are even thinner on the ground.

Manchester United managed two in a row in August, Southampton are currently on a three-match run of their own and Arsenal went into the international break with back-to-back clean sheets.

The Saints will face both Manchester City and Chelsea over the next three Gameweeks, however, leaving the Gunners looking the likeliest to continue their fine defensive form once their players’ latest national chores are done.

With that in mind, in this latest members article we assess their recent defensive performances, analysing Arsenal against other resilient rearguards before checking out the merits of Arsene Wenger’s preferred back-four.

    Daley Blind...
He's the one to watch over the next two (difficult fixtures). If he holds his place, he will be a great addition to my team 🙂

He looks a great option, but we need to make sure he keeps his place when Bailly, Smalling and Shaw are all fit at the same time. Really hope so as a Utd fan, as well as for FPL reasons 🙂

Yep, I reckon if plays well over the next game or two, to add to his previous form he should keep his place at LB. Smalling + Bailly will be a great partnership also (hopefully).

    Totally stumped here,

    2FT, zero ITB

    Pickford | Jaku

    Williams | Walker | Amat | Holebas | Evans

    Sanchez | Sterling | Antonio | Capoue | Firm

    Kun | Lukaku | Deeney

want to use a transfer as have 2 but with no spare cash hindering any moves (Jaku>>, Antonio>>)
    Any help?

Have a look at WBA's fixtures, maybe swap out Evans, players will be getting rid of WBA defenders like wildfire in a week or two!

Top strikers Value Score (points determined by million spent on them)

    Defoe. 5.3
    Rondon. 4.9
    Stuani. 4.9
    Costa. 4.6
    Lukaku. 4.5
    Deeney. 4.3
    Austin. 3.7
    Wilson. 3.6
    Zlatan. 3.2
    Aguero. 3
Benteke. 3 (skewed hugely by not playing first few matches)

That's why people are bombing Zlatan.

Aguero is worth it because you captain him 70 percent of the time (plus he's SO much more than everyone else as we know). The only point to owning Zlatan in my opinion is committing to captaining him at least fifty percent of the time.

That would mean you're captaining somebody who plays for Man United, the 9th highest scorers over the last three years, half the time.

    Not for me.

Lukaku has a good record for Eve vs city and we all know this Eve is much better and this City defence much worse than a year or two ago.

Any update on Lukaku and Kun for this weekend?

And are we hopeful of Sanchez starting and playing a decent chunk? I'm thinking so as Arsenal only have Ludogrets in Champs league.

I'd be left with only 2 if Lukaku and Aguero's go. Heaton and Sterling left - they're believed to be minor injuries too

    Hall of Fame Update News

Been getting lots of enquiries about when the Hall of Fame will be updated.

Firstly, huge apologies for the delay. With some technical changes taking place regarding FPL team information, Chris "The Professor" has had to do a fair bit of work behind the scenes to get that sorted.

The good news is that barring any hiccups we should be able to get that update up by the end of the week.

The bad news, well for me anyway, is that after one of my worst Gameweeks on record I'll have slipped down the rankings 😉

Once again sorry again and we'll keep you updated if any further issues arise.

      Hi Jonty!
Great to have Hall Of Fame Table updated again!
Is the table calculated/based by points or position?
We just have played 7 gameweeks this season, is it included in the calculation?

      1. J0E

Yes, it basically adds in this season's points so far and adds them to your track record over the seasons. The most recent season has a higher weighting. So basically if you were say 2,000th after last year and this year were doing really well you can expect a significant improvement in your HoF placing.

The update will be 'live' which takes into account the last gwk's pts. The aim is to have weekly updates all being well.

Over the next few weeks it's likely that you might make it back, particularly from the defenders.

I'd say that swapping Lukaku for Wilson is a fairly big downgrade though. If it doesn't work you'll probably need more hits to sort your strikeforce.

Yeah i think the Spurs/Arsenal defence is the way to go. also think Walcott could be good for now. the downside is losing Lukaku to Wilson, but Lukaku's fixtures take a turn for the worse.

  13. King Kohli

How do you choose between Defoe or Deeney for the next few weeks?

    Defoe:
+ Main goal threat for Sunderland
+ Involved in 4 out of 6 goals scored (67%)
    + On Penalties
+ Very likely to get BAPS when he scores
    - Sunderland score very few goals (6 in 7 games)
    - No assist potential as such

    Deeney:
+ Plays for a more attacking team
    + On Penalties
+ Decent assist potential (9 assists last season)
    + Better fixtures short term
    - Involved in only 4 out of 12 goals scored (25%)
    - Goals & BAPS shared around at Watford

Struggling to decide, but leaning towards Deeney.

    Appreciate your response

      1. Valar(Keith)

This. Austin would be priced 8+ at the season start if he it was known he was the main striker and he is the main striker now. Class act

      2. King Kohli
        • 13 Years

Don't fancy Austin to get anything vs city away & Chelsea at home. That's the main reason putting me off him.

SOU also don't score enough goals and Austin has a history of being injury prone and gets subbed off around 70 mins quite often.

Wilson is worth a punt but think Deeney / Defoe are better picks than him

Neither of those sides have covered themselves in glory this season. That being said i am going with him and Snoddy as my cheapest attackers so il be benching him mostly. How many goals from open play has Kun scored in the league this season?
With his love of his country and fending off other players for his place does anyone think he may take a risk and play when not fully fit?
It is a calf problem being his most common injury, does anyone think Pep has flown out a doctor?
All I know is I had him the 1st 2 weeks in my side and I am so glad I don't have him now.

Looking for a under 4,8M midfielder, mostly for benching.

Tempted by Højbjerg who's starting to play well with Southampton. But they have quite bad fixtures.

Also, Kanté is a regular, he'll play a lot and is so far scoring 2 to 3 points every game. Maybe good bench option.

    Any thoughts or other suggestions?

Mendy should play for Leicester every game when he's fit and only 4.4 but you generally get what you pay for.

4.8m exactly buys you Joe Allen.

Romeu for Saints might be at risk in the middle but he does actually pick up a few goals/assist points on occasion.

I wanted to put Benteke up front (he's on fire right now, scoring three last night). That's why I only got 4,8M for the midfielder.

Could also pick someone else up front and get some better quality in the mid. But Benteke seems to be a good pick right now. Palace is literally playing for him

Pick someone from a team you will never triple up on. Leicester, for example, could have a time when you want Mahrez, Vardy + def.
de roon 4.4 and nailed isn't a bad shout.

Can I get a WC Team rating out of 10???

    Grant

    Mustafi Lovren Zuniga

    Tadic Son Firmino Sanchez

    Aguero Benteke Costa

    (Pickford Barry Amat 4mil)

Know Zuniga is a temp option but going to deal with that when Janmaat returns

Oh man, that's the one good thing about my job - whole showroom to myself, so nobody to catch me on FFS all day.

Team is alright... bit dull, as I'm just bobbing up and down around the 50k mark not getting any big arrows one way or the other, but can't complain obviously. Feel like I need a punt to make it more interesting, but Valencia ➡ Rose looks to be my move this GW.

It's not bad but Bellerin and Sanchez are forcing you to take some pretty big risks elsewhere (deRoon.. Kaboul+Amat..)

Also I'd go Williams over Stones every day of the week 🙂

de Roon is 4.4m bench fodder, don't care about him. Kaboul needs to go soon and Amat is a class 4m pick, he never starts for me but always plays for Swansea.

Stones is someone I am looking to get rid of too, a clean sheet vs Everton would change many opinions though.

            Thanks for your outlook

deRoon and Amat are grand picks, but I don't like owning deRoon AND Capoue, I'm still not convinced Capoue is a good 4th mid, just an excellent 5th mid.
              Could be wrong though 🙂

Everyone has him right now including half of the top 10k so I'm keeping for now. I have 1m ITB to get Snod or something. Think Capoue will blank some more and there will be a fire sale. For now, I had much more pressing issues, I had Ibra + Shaw before and needed to get rid

            Morning All,

Havn't touched my WC team in a week due to work and family reasons but back on today to re-assess. Got the price rises last weekend and this was the initial team..
0.1 in the bank and lots to consider..

            Heaton // Pickford
            Stones // Koscielny // Vertongen // Evans // Amat
            Sanchez // Walcott // Son // Firminho // Capoue
            Aguero // Lukaku // Stuani

            - LIV and LEI defense seems to be required with fixtures..
            - What downgrades should also be considered to upgrade Stuani?
            - I have had Capoue for 4.5m so could sell if needs must for De Roon (4.4)
            - GK combo for the forseeable future.. Bravo? Loris? 4.0 combo? The above?

              -Your defence is fine
              -Downgrade Son
              -Keep Capoue for now
              -Keepers are also fine

              From one 80k-something to another:

Personally, I would double up on Spurs or Arsenal instead of Stones/Evans (Upgrade 1, downgrade the other). I see more Clean Sheets for both teams than not.

But assuming that's not the direction you want to take you team in, I'm liking Watford, Southampton, and Everton (especially Baines for dem Pen goals) for defense more than Man City and Brom.

Also, it looks like you're playing 3-5-2. So you might as well downgrade Stuani to a non-playing 4.4 and free up some cash just in case you have a good move come up in the future.

              Good luck!

...but if you want to go for 3-4-3, I'd downgrade Walcott to De Roon and get your Defoe/Benteke/Deeney.

Personally, I'd rather have Walcott and play 3-5-2.

I have got Cazorla as ever present midfielder. Wonder if I should take a further -4 hit and swap him for Walcott or Son (might not be easy considering his opponents this week) or Chadli.

Or should I keep Cazorla as he has been a regular starter and not too bad though his current form is 2.7.

            Comments and help are appreciated.

            I'm considering for -8:

            Valencia > Smith
            Baines > Mustafi
            Antonio > Tadic

Is that a bit risky? I can't see Antonio doing anything this week again Palace and the two defenders have good chances on CS'.

any advice? I prefer to sub a spurs defender in for valencia or stones. However, no money left, which means it would cost me a midfielder

            Pickford (Jakupovic)

            Valencia Stones Morgan (Kingsley, Byram)

            Sanchez Sterling Firmino Capoue (Snodgrass)

            Aguero Deeney Lukaku
