Up next, it’s time for our pre-Gameweek members article, offering insight on the armband conundrum for the weekend’s ten fixtures.

We kick off by assessing the main contenders in this week’s Captain Poll, then analyse the Opta numbers and check up on the Rate My Team ratings before suggesting a couple of differential options as a result of the data analysis.

The Captain Poll

Alexis Sanchez once again tops the Captain Poll as Arsenal welcome Middlesbrough to the Emirates.

Despite collecting just one assist in the last two rounds of fixtures, the Chilean holds a comfortable lead at the summit with over 38% of voters backing him to do the business against a defence with a single clean sheet all season.

Theo Walcott’s stunning recent form sees him edge Sergio Aguero (17% to 14%) into third spot.

Subject to more transfers in than any player in the Gameweek, the former has racked up four goals and two assists in the last four and has only failed to pick up points in two of eight appearances.

Both players got on the scoresheet against Ludogorets in midweek, underlining their flourishing form as Aitor Karanka’s strugglers roll up tomorrow.

Mesut Ozil bagged three goals and an assist against the Bulgarians and netted for the third time in six Gameweeks in last week’s win over Swansea.

Only 2% fancy the Gunners playmaker as a captain due to Sanchez and Walcott’s popularity.

Utilised as a sub in City’s previous two matches, there are now concerns that Sergio Aguero’s pitch time may be at risk under Pep Guardiola.

The Argentine has now blanked in three of his last four league outings after emerging from the bench to miss a spot-kick at home to Everton last weekend.

With Southampton’s resilient rearguard rolling up to the Etihad, Aguero’s 44% of FPL owners are relying on Guardiola to return him to the first XI as City seek a first win in five across all competitions.

Kevin De Bruyne’s ownership is on the up as a result of his security of starts. The Belgian remains a real Gameweek 9 differential, though – despite averaging seven points per appearance, he’s earned just 1% of the votes so far.

Romelu Lukaku is positioned in fourth spot with 5% of votes as Everton travel to Burnley.

Granted, the Clarets are no pushover at Turf Moor – conceding just three times in five – yet six goals in his last five, including an opener at City on Saturday, highlights the Belgian’s capabilities.

West Ham’s plum home clash against Sunderland earns Dimitri Payet (2%) the final slot in our top five.

The Frenchman has served up 20 points in three appearances in front of his own supporters and earned double-figures in his previous outing at the London Stadium.

He faces an injury-hit Black Cats side that’s mired to the basement after picking up two points from the first eight fixtures.

Elsewhere, the likes of Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho are overlooked options as Liverpool welcome West Brom to Anfield.

Tottenham’s Heung-Min Son collects just 2% of votes ahead of a trip to Bournemouth, with many perhaps wary of Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to use him off the bench at West Brom last weekend.

Chelsea’s home clash with Man United means that only 1% are willing to back the consistent Diego Costa, who has scored or assisted in seven of the first eight.

Good to go below? Stupidly took a hit to do Capoue>Chadli as wouldn't be able to afford after Chadders price rises tonight...

    Heaton
    Bellerin, Coleman, Friend
    Sterling, Theo, Firmino, Chadli, Allen
    Kun(c), Lukaku
    (Foster, Toby, Evans, Rashford)

Fingers crossed! Really think Chadli could benin for a breakout season & hopefully is very underpriced considering he is on pens etc... Lpool defence not the most solid either so he should be involved on saturday evening to hopefully justify the hit.

Rashford is next up for shearing next week then, Wilson or Austin look so much better than Rashford unfort.

Will play Allen hoping for a hull capitulation & Rashford was very quiet v liverpool, a much worse defence than chelsea.

Massive benching dilemma. I stupidly bought in Allen for a hit as a 5th mid (I admit that move was silly)

Now I'm wondering if I can even play him.

Do I bench Deeney or play AOA?

    Walker Holebas (Pieters Amat A.Smith)
    Sanchez Firmino Sterling Walcott Allen
    Kun Lukaku Deeney

Yeah you can't really play Allen there... Deeney is the next choice to bench, but it would be a big call to bench him for Allen.

Thinking of sticking this week, and keeping the transfer.

    Pickford
    Williams, Stones, Holebas
    Theo, Sanchez, Firmino, Antonio
    Aguero, Austin, Zlatan

    Subs. Jaku, Amat, Fletcher, Evans

    Keep the transfer?
    Or ditch someone???

I fancied him v LFC, due to their inability to defend set pieces and Zlatan power in the air.

He's fit and ready, but Mourinho ain't playing him. Jose was quoted as saying, "He needs to work more if he wants to be involved in the first team and get the intensity to play at a high level".

I don't expect him to feature in a Premier League game any time soon. Perhaps in the EFL Cup or so, but definitely not in the big matches given all the options he has at his disposal for the attacking slots.

Risked an early free double transfer to beat the price changes with Antonio and Rashford to Walcott and Austin. Luckily got away with it.

    Pickford - (Jaku)
    Walker - Lovren - Holebas - (Smith - Amat)
    Sanches (c) - Sterling - Firmino - Walcott - (Fletcher)
    Kun - Kaku - Austin

    0.8 itb.

Think I'm sorted for the week.

Any suggestions what to do with the jeeper-keepers? What are the changes of Jaku reclaiming his place?

Walcott-Sanchez combo owners and cappers, what are you basing your armband decision on?

Sanchez as its his turn now and walcott can't do that again although hope he does as I own both!

This is weirdly a factor for me also, it's maybe just Sanchez' turn. I hate capping him at times, very frustrating when he pulls back and you can just see you're not getting anything that day.

He seems to be the scorer and Sanchez the assister, but I don't know. Sanchez is really frustrating to have the armband on sometimes.

      Hmmm...

Bony should go but... he's great option given the fixtures.

You could do Bony to Deeney next week and Deeney to Austin after, followed by a Allen to Chadli if you've got the cash. 🙂
Something i was looking at....following Hull for a bit.

I would have kept Sterling and not bothered doing the Walcott move, personally. Sterling has some cracking fixtures coming up. P had to go and not sure Tekkers had to go for Austin this week!!

I agree with everything you said , it feels real knee jerky , my plan is to get de bruyne in some how for those said fixtures , I just don't like sterling personally , which may come back to bite me . These transfers funded the pererya to Firmino move which I was dead set on having .

    Some advice would be nice.

Is it worth getting Grant this week? with the news that Butland is back in training bit worried it would be a dud buy. Problem is only got Foster as a playing GK at the mo and I'm fearful with an away game at Pool and their hard fixtures generally over the coming weeks. With the move I might make next week ideally I want a GK that is 4.0/4.1 and Pickford don't really fancy. Could do with Grant playing at least 3 more games

Yeah boring GK question, sorry folks. 😀

3 games is likely for Grant I think. That takes us up to the next international break. Looks likely that Butland will be back after that from what I have read.
