A Belgian duo light up Sunday’s pair of fixtures as Romelu Lukaku grabs his customary goal against West Ham, before Eden Hazard nets for the third successive Gameweek as Chelsea see off Southampton at St Mary’s.

On the Rise

Eden Hazard
There is no doubt that Chelsea’s move to 3-4-3 has handed Hazard the freedom to flourish.

Afforded licence to drift centrally when the Blues are in possession, the revived Belgian scored for the third consecutive league outing, bagging a goal and an assist in the 2-0 triumph.

After peaking at 10.3 in Gameweek 5, he has dropped to 9.8 in recent weeks, yet an explosive return to form – having notched against Leicester City and Manchester United – could now trigger a transfer scramble.

Sunday’s 14-point haul was Hazard’s highest of the season and takes him to just seven points off the top of the FPL midfield standings.

Romelu Lukaku
Second only to Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho for acquisitions ahead of Gameweek 10, Lukaku was also the most-captained player by the top 100 FPL managers.

The Everton striker justified that show of faith with a goal and assist against West Ham and is now the top scoring FPL forward.

His run of consistent displays under Ronald Koeman shows no sign of abating – Lukaku has served up points in six of the last seven Gameweeks ahead of next weekend’s trip to Chelsea.

Diego Costa
A superb second-half strike at St Mary’s maintained a remarkable run that has harvested FPL points in eight of Costa’s first 10 Gameweeks.

Yet again he kept out of trouble and remains on four yellows – impressively, Costa has been booked in just one of the last six league matches.

Although there’s been a recent clamour for 3-5-2 due to the number of high-scoring midfielders, the Costa, Lukaku and Sergio Aguero front line is becoming increasingly appealing for those prepared to invest big funds up top.

In saying that, Hazard is now only one point behind Costa and 0.5 cheaper.

Yannick Bolasie
After finding the net against Burnley in Gameweek 10, Bolasie is another player to shed his erratic form under Koeman.

An assist for Lukaku’s opener means he has now produced points in five of the previous seven Gameweeks.

Arguably the only guaranteed starter in the Everton attacking midfield three, his assist was the fourth of the season – already bettering last term’s tally of three while at Palace.

For those already holding Lukaku, though, Everton’s upcoming schedule – which hands them encounters with Chelsea, Southampton and Manchester United in the next four – may well deter a double-up.

Victor Moses
Handed a fourth straight start as a right wing-back by Antonio Conte, the Chelsea midfielder provided the assist for Hazard’s opener.

Moses was also amongst the goals in the Gameweek 8 win over Leicester City and seems to have cemented a regular role in the Blues’ 3-4-3 formation.

Priced at just 5.5 in FPL, the Nigerian international offered a decent goal threat throughout Sunday’s clash and, having convinced Conte of his worth, may yet emerge as a viable budget midfield option.

Cesar Azpilicueta & Marcos Alonso
It’s four clean sheets in as many matches for the Blues since the change of tactics.

Again, the Spanish defender’s suitability to the bonus points system prevailed and helped him to a pair of additional points at St Mary’s.

Impressively, Azpilicueta has been awarded bonus points in six of the first 10 Gameweeks and has collected at least one extra point on the five occasions that his side has registered a shut-out.

Sitting in 11% of FPL sides, he’s now climbed to joint-fourth in the defender rankings, level with Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin on 45 points.

Even so, with John Terry looming as a factor on the bench and Kurt Zouma soon to return from injury, it’s not yet clear if Conte will keep faith with his current back-three in the mid-term. Marcos Alonso, at left wing-back, therefore appears to offer a more secure option.

Ross Barkley
Barkley nudged back onto the radar with a finely taken volley for the Toffees’ second.

Unlike his fellow midfielder Bolasie, this was Barkley’s first attacking returns since Gameweek 2, when he earned an assist away to West Brom.

Having dropped to the bench as recently as Gameweek 8, Barkley is unlikely to clamber ahead of Bolasie for those eyeing up the Everton midfield. A price tag of 7.2 to the former Eagles winger’s 6.0 means that Barkley remains peripheral in our thoughts for now.

In Decline

Phil Jagielka
The Everton skipper went into Sunday’s match as their top scoring defender, having started all nine of the opening fixtures.

Dropped to the bench as Ramiro Funes Mori came in alongside Ashley Williams, Jagielka’s absence coincided with the Toffees’ first clean sheet in six Gameweeks.

Funes Mori earned a single bonus point to return seven points and stake a claim for regular inclusion, though the upcoming schedule hardly appears conducive to clean sheets.

Winston Reid
The West Ham skipper toppled off the Suspension Tightrope after earning his fifth yellow card of the season.

Reid had racked up 29 points in the previous three Gameweeks but now sits out the Gameweek 11 home clash with Stoke.

With Spurs, United, Arsenal and Liverpool in the subsequent four, clean sheets may well be in short supply for Slaven Bilic’s side.

Monreal and Rose to Fuchs and Alonso for -4

Defence for gw10 will then be
    Fuchs Alonso Smith (Williams Love)

Hello DZ, considering a hit this week. Would appreciate some thoughts on it.

    Heaton
    Valencia* Pieters Evans
    Sanchez Payet Walcott Son
    Kun Lukaku Austin

    Pickford Holebas Hojbjerg Amat 0.2m

    Valencia, Son -> Lowton, Coutinho(-4)

Lowton would give me a Burnley double but he rotates well with my other defs and Burnley are one of the best defences in the league at home. He has already managed a few baps and has even created more chances than Bellerin this season. Looks like a great differential with 0.7% ownership.

Son away to Arsenal and a doubt to start with Lamela likely to return from illness as well as Kane being fit again.

    What do you think?

Well last season Lowton had 3 assists and a goal off of 27 games so that isn't bad for a cheap defender and is better than Ben Mee's record for example. Personally I don't like the double up particularly.

Son to Coutinho seems a good move to me. Of course Watford are just coming off of 3 clean sheets themselves though and will not be pushovers. I wonder if that move is a week too late?

      1. Nabs Kebabs
        • 14 Years

Well yes, Lowton has a great history of attacking stats in the PL. In 2012/13 he managed 2 goals and 4 assists with Villa.
The double will be mainly for home games. Burnley have only conceded 4 goals in 6 games at home this season and have a record of being very hard to break down at home. People used to always double with Pulis in defence in the past with great success so I see no reason why this wouldn't work.

Watford aren't terrible defensively but I wouldn't say they are good by any means. Those 3 CS have been against Boro, Swansea and Hull. Out of the 6 teams in the league yet to score 10 goals, all 3 of them are in that lot. I'd be very surprised if Liverpool didn't tear them apart myself. I'd also be surprised if Son starts this weekend. It will be Kane/Jannsen/Lamela/Son vying for two spots.

Oh Son should go. I don't doubt that at all and Coutinho is the logical replacement I agree. I just think he might not do as well next week as last.

    Heaton / Pickford
    Bellerin / Alonso / Evans / Pieters / Amat

    Playing 3-5-2, Campbell last sub.

    Is this defence too weak?

    Grant - Pickford
    Lovren - Smith - Holebas - Evans - 3.9

Evans, Pieters, Lowton, Mee — who’s best at 4.5m until year end?

I have ran with weak defence before and it can work. It never looks prety though. I would go with Smith - Holebas - Pieters. I might not bother spending the extra on Lovren I am not sure he is worth it

Thanks Cheese. It's originally between Pieters and Evans. But I just saw stats of Lowton and wondering if he might be a better pick. Lovren is there now and I have no FT to handle him yet. Hope to earn some price rise before selling him later.

Really can't tell if the time has finally come to play the WC...

Things I'd like to do just off the top of my head: Foster-->Heaton. Jaku-->Pickford. Williams-->Lovren. Smith is on 4 yellows, Amat is probably dropped. Walcott is questionable. Sterling has lost form. Deeney is useless and I want Austin.

    I could do a -8 and do Deeney/Sterling/Walcott --> Austin/Hazard/Chadli?
Or just do Deeney-->Austin for free? Or maybe get Lovren in for Williams for a hit.

    Or hit the WC button?

    1 FT, 0.0 ITB

    Foster - Jaku
    Stones - Williams - Smith - Friend - Amat
    Sanchez - Coutinho - Walcott - Sterling - 4.3
    Aguero - Costa - Deeney

    Best move here?

    A) Collins & Valencia -> 2 of Stones, Cedric & Simpson
    B) Collins, Valencia & Benteke -> Fuchs, VVD & Austin (-4)
    C) Valencia -> Fuchs/VDV (save the other FT and hope Collins plays with Reid out)

    Cech
    Clyne, Collins, Valencia
    Sanchez, Walcott, Firmino, Antonio
    Aguero, Defoe, Benteke

    Pickford, Capoue, Kone, Amat
    Bank 0.0m, 2FT

      Abit left field but

Collins Antonio Defoe > Cedric/VVD Chadli Austin?

Yea Valencia can go in Collins place - saw that after I posted.

I think he should start so in that case maybe keep Collins, doesn't harm if he's on the bench for awhile. yea that defence needs abit of work i'm afraid.

Just take a look at your budget and decide if you can afford to wait, then. Justifiable to do it now, though, cuz even though home vs Stoke looks good, Hammers certainly don't and I don't really see signs that they are gonna turn it.

Not many good discussions on here lately, what has happened to the deadzone?

It just post after post of people showing teams asking what they should be. No actual discussion
on merits etc of individual players.

When someone does try to create interesting article (RuthNZ) Then they are shot down in flames,
so maybe it little wonder there not much chatter.

Whatever the reason the days of coming to the deadzone for a bit of a laugh and entertainment seem to be over.

Yes, i've been busy but not much busier than last season. However, I do feel less inclined to post as other familiar faces aren't around. The game's definitely gotten more popular and more people are on the boards from different timezones. Bit of a chicken and egg thing, and a peculiar phenomenon.

No template ever lasts for the whole season. Kind of a silly choice of a word, if you think about it, because a true template is unchanging over time, because it needs to be so that you have minimal variation week-in, week-out, for the long haul. Here, template seems to be used for "flavor-of-the-month-amongst-the-(sometimes-self-designated)serious-players-who-are-doing-well", and if you took a snapshot each month of what the "template" was, it would have so much variability that it would be laughable to use the word "template"

People over sensitive and not really open to discussion. If it's not rude or offensive IT'S NOT A TROLL. It's called banter.

Even with Ruth. I personally don't take much from his posts, but I still think he should post.

My only problem with Ruth is that he makes statements for his on internal thinking and isn't really open to discussion. If you don't agree with him you are automatically trolling.

People need to chill, be open to other opinions/banter, and not be so damn sensitive.

      That could help this place.

      Or stick to A, B and C's. I really don't care anymore. 🙂

    Benteke + Son + Valencia --> Austin + Coutinho + Alonso (-4)
    Yes or No?

I think on the whole it makes sense even though -4. Valencia dead, Son playing like dead, and the promise of Benteke being on the end of a barrage of crosses and netting goal after goal hasn't materialized. Austin blanked but still at tip of lively looking Soton offense, for whom fixtures only get brighter, Coutinho is Coutinho and Chelsea defense seems very important. Only question is Alonso or Azpi. Azpi seems to have more BPS and more bonus by good margin since change to 343.

eh, maybe? but if you're gonna get priced out of something you're set on, then you might have to just go for it and hope for the best. Worst case, you hit a -4 if you absolutely can't cover an injury with your bench, but if it's a big injury, know that tons of others are in same boat as you and may also have to take hit on top of their other plans that they don't want to put off

I think it's definitely too early if you're considering an injury prone player that plays midweek, eg. Austin.

I want Austin too, but made sure I have a little extra for price rises so he can get through midweek unscathed first.

I have a feeling he'll play against Inter.

The last 3 games has demonstrated a potential key difference between Sanchez and Hazard - Hazard's relative consistency in good FPL seasons vs Sanchez inconsistent but explosive returns.

In such a rollercoaster season, could we do with some of the consistency (that seems to be case with CHE's new system) Hazard offers? Leave it to the Pool mids for the explosions.

I admit, I felt very lucky to be a Sanchez captainer as the weekend panned out given Aguero/Lukaku/Hazard could easily have tallied huge huge scores while Sanchez was fortunate to get that second.

Ideally would want both Hazard and Sanchez as some stage. That is what all the value building is about.
Soon double Livrpool mids will need to be sacrificed to accomodate Hazard.
Sanchez Hazard Coutinho cheaper mid , bench fodder mid

I think I have a decent TV @ around 104m right now but even then it's super difficult to imagine fitting them all in.

Weighing up a Mane Deeney > Hazard Austin (-4) switch but not sure if it's abit point chasey wrt to Hazard.

Hazard is by far my favourite FPL player but it's a weird one this season. I am somehow quite confident Mane could outscore Hazard on any given week seeing how Liverpool play - could have had a brace over the weekend with abit of luck.

Carefully considering Valencia replacement this week, as very aware that
overspending could have negative consequences when trying to fit in the likes
        of Hazard.
For example , have to weigh up whether it is better to buy a Pieters/Smith type
or wade in with Fuchs/ Alonso as they can reduce midfield options, and Hazard is looming

Agreed. I feel my team is decent at the moment but a wrong transfer this week or next, and everything could fall apart very very very quickly.

I'd err on the side of caution at the moment, hence trying to free up some cash with Deeney > Austin as primary option. Should have gotten rid of Capoo on WC but it is what it is now...

Yeah. I'm going to look at having Kun, Ibra, Cout or Firm, Sanchez and Hazard.

The only one above that I currently don't own is Hazard, so easiest way in for him is to upgrade Cout or Firm.

The Hazard explosion last night has raised a few questions on here....

With Liverpool's great run of fixtures coming up would you rather double up on their mids (Cout + Firm) OR own Hazard who is know to only perform at home, yesterday being an exception ?

A template front 8 would now be:
      Sanchez - Coutinho - Walcott - Haz/Firmino - 4.3
      Aguero - Lukaku - Austin

The "double double-up" of LIV+ARS is really putting all your eggs in the same basket...

      What are your thoughts ?

      1. @persecuted_by_mods
          9 years, 5 months ago

I had Suarez Sturridge and Gerrard during that crazy season Liverpool had, a double up for a team that scores plenty isn't bad in itself. It would only be bad if one of the two players didn't score often then there's no real point of the double up

Decide if you want to go with a 343 or a 352. As it is, you're kind of trying to do both with a cheapie 5th mid and a cheapie 3rd striker, neither of whom you really want to be playing. Tank one of those positions, but not both, and build from there.

If you want to go 343,
Sell Crapooie before he loses any more of the value that you might have accumulated, and replace him with a true cheap bench fodder 5th mid. Put that profit into an upgrade elsewhere in your team, namely your third striker. Likewise the profit from moving Son to a cheaper 4th mid.

If you want to go 352
Keep Diomande and concentrate on fixing your 4th 5th mids into two who will provide points. You don't want to ride a 352 with Capoue being one of them and it'll be hard to have Sanchez, Coutinho, Hazard and two other quality mids.

          (I think….)

Triggerlips, you want to see something that will provoke discussion (and likely get shown in flames). Here you are.

The case for dropping Kun in GW12.

Argentina play twice in the international break.
On the 10th they are away to Brazil and on the 15th they host Columbia. Man city are way to Palace on the 19th.

Last international break, Argentina played on the 6th away to Peru and on the 11th home to Paraguay. Kun then started on the bench vs Everton on the 15th.

So with a similar scenario coming up, aswell as success of using Kelechi up top while Kun was out, I'd be very surprised if Kun starts away to Palace. Pep has a history of rotation and here is a link to RuthNZ's hot topic which goes into more detail on that: http://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2016/10/19/the-digest-gameweek-8-5/?hc_page=14#hc_comment_14305533

After Palace, City's next 3 fixtures are: bur/CHE/lei

Burnley have conceded 4 in 6 games at home. Chelsea are coming off 4 consective clean sheets. Leicester have conceded 2 goals in 5 games at home.

I can't see myself captaining Kun in any of those games. And I also believe the only thing that makes Kun "worth is" is the fact that he is the standout captain option usually. Captaincy increases value.

Kane's return is imminent and has great fixtures in GW12 and GW14 where there are not really any great fixtures for other main captain options. Ibra's stats are great and I sense that once he breaks the duck, he will go on a run. Costa has been doing the business all season.

GW16 he is home to Watford and will likely be captained by most top players so he may have to be brought back in then. But if looking for a way to get way ahead of the curve, losing Kun for this month period could be an awesome move. This is something I have been looking at for a couple of weeks and there is a decent chance I take the punt myself. 🙂

          Whats wrong with that?

Everyone is always very clever after the event. However in real time there were real concerns about Aguero
          1) City winless in Five
          2) Suspisions he was not 100%
          3) Appearing to be playing a more withdrawn role
          4) Benched
          5) Tough champ league matches with possible further benching
          6) Low on confidence (Missed penalties)
          7) Peps history with strikers

It is appalling the way RuthNZ has been attacked post goals. He wrote
a decent article about Pep that i found very informative. Its shocking how he attacked
just because Aguero happened to return to form this week. At the time there were valid concerns

Lol, Ruth has hardly been attacked TL.

Some of us that were on the other side of the debate had a laugh at his expense as anyone would expect.

If you think that's being attacked then you are being way too sensitive.

If I make a dumb move (and I've made plenty) I'm the first to post it here and be the first to poke fun at myself.

If you can't take a bit of banter then you're taking this whole game and the discussions far too seriously and need to lighten up.

Except it wasn't a dumb move. It was a risky move that didn't pay off and could have easily gone the other way. I say, good on Ruth for taking a punt, that was justified with rational thinking and completely viable.

And this is the whole point NABS.

You and others don't think it was a dumb move and justified by rational thinking.

Some of us did think it was a dumb move and justified by outdated thinking based on 2 different teams in 2 different leagues some time ago.

The issue is, anyone in that second group I described has automatically been labelled trolls because they didn't agree with Ruth's logic or rationality. Are people in this group not allowed a differing opinion right or wrong?

It seems with Ruth's comments in particular, the wider community is forced to agree just because Ruth presents his argument well, and anyone who doesn't agree is either ignored or put straight into the troll box.

Ruth also doesn't do himself or his argument any favors by openly stating he doesn't care about anyone else's opinion but his, which begs the question why start a discussion in the first place if you really don't want to discuss it?

Ruth has had the exact same issue over at FISO's fpl forum for the exact same reasons.

Ruth, yourself, and everyone else should be able to have an opinion, whatever it may be, and have that opinion heard. It's no one's job to force another opinion on someone because you 'think' your opinion has been explained best.

                You get what I'm saying?

Yes I agree with the core of what you're saying. Everyone is of course allowed an option.

But I must say, I have not seen many rational arguments for your side of the debate. Most of the people "loling @ Kun sellers" haven't contributed any worthy discussion and are infact just trolls and sheep who make whatever transfers posters on here tell them to.

Agreed, people think the Aguero debate is all done and dusted, but despite the Two goals at the
weekend there could be further heartache for owners. Can he be trusted with the armband? We will
nearly all do it against Boro but it could end in tears, then all the concerns will come flooding back

It'll linger all season long, because the price point is just about perfect. Just enough to make it hurt to own him. Any cheaper and everybody would own and not have a qualm about the blanks, because everybody else would be in the same boat. Any more expensive and his ownership would be so low as to make it safer to go without.

And that's fine if that's what you want to do, but expect to be challenged on that idea, and do yourself a favor by accepting the debate and not throwing your toys out of the pram if others disagree. 😉

Also make sure to come back on here straight after if it doesn't work out and accept the ribbing you may get as the laugh it's meant to be. Something Ruth won't do as he takes this game far too seriously and can't accept that not everything he says or does is the right move.

I'd have a lot more respect for Ruth if he showed his face here over the past two days and had a laugh with us at his expense. It's called banter, not trolling. 🙂

You seem to not be able to differentiate between "risky" and a wrong move. It's all hindsight with you.

Even if, I do the Kun move successfully, it is just a risky move that I got lucky with. If I do it and it doesn't come off, I would have got unlucky. The rational is all above, if you disgree that the move is viable, you'd need to have a great counter argument.

Just like my BB GW1, time and time again I have said luck played a part in it. But it was a viable move backed up by rational thinking, inspired by RuthNZ's initial post.

And just like that BB move you were on here in a flash telling everyone what a great move it was, ie. gloating. Correct?

So why is it now considered trolling for those that came on here after Kun's performance gloating?

Because people see things how they choose to see them. 🙂

This is my main point. Everyone needs to stop being so sensitive and recognize the difference between banter, gloating and trolling.

For the record, I had no problem with your gloating or anyone else's gloating for that matter. 😉

I said time and time again luck played a part and I kept referencing Ruth's post and asking why it never got more attention/stickied.

If you gloat about keeping Kun, that's really just embarrassing.

Yes you were gloating, lol. You also were getting rather upset at others that challenged your decision and didn't agree it was the right time to use it. I remember it well. 🙂

Again, I'm not passing judgement. I'm just stating the facts and maybe you'll see you're being slightly hypocritical by passing judgement on those that gloated after Kun's haul.

Luck plays a part in this entire game, however some decisions are more obvious than others.

Correct, it's just my opinion, and I have much more respect for you now, as you've listened to my opinion without once having to dismiss it as trolling. 😉

This is really my main problem. The loose use of the term trolling.

It's extremely rare that anyone will ever change someone's opinion, especially when they've made it very clear that they're not open to anyone else's opinion.

But for God's sake do have to use terms like 'trolling' and 'attacked' to describe someone that may disagree with another?

Even regarding gloating. Sure it can be annoying, but take it as harmless banter and get over it.

FYI - I'm speaking in general NABS and not directly at you with those comments. 😉

I haven't seen you as a troll ever. But I believe the majority who lol @ Ruth/Ken sellers are just dumb trolls who kept Kun without even considering an alternative.

The difference with me is I kept Kun WITH the alternative considered.

Honestly, I think it is fair enough for Ruth not to listen to other posters' opinions on here. Why would he need to? He always backs his decisions...risky or not, with logic behind them.

          I did Wally+ Fer+ Amat+ Kun to Cout+ Siggy+ Blind+ Deeney last week for a -12. I do not regret the move one bit!
Would be roping in KDB this week and I am all set for a couple of weeks.
If you check the Value(form) stat on the FPL site, Kun is quite down below on the list.
Also dont see a 16 point haul from Kun every week but I do expect 16 points from Cou+Blind consistently.
I might double up with sterling in the mid but might not transfer in Kun till the second wildcard.

Toxic discussion that will lead nowhere. I GUARANTEE that no votes will be converted by any discussion that we have here on FFS. No opinions will be changed. No progress will be made. And no improvements will be made in your FPL teams. I'm all for some friendly discussions on this board, but there is zero chance that a Trump-Clinton discussion stays friendly and productive.
