Our latest captain poll has now launched to assess your thoughts on the optimum armband options for Gameweek 11.

Nine out of ten of those who voted in our last poll for Gameweek 10 dismissed Sergio Aguero (13.0) as a viable captain. With a brace and assist away to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, many won’t be making the same mistake this time around.

An Etihad meeting with Middlesbrough is expected to see the Manchester City striker dominate this week’s poll, after he so cruelly punished the 100,000 Fantasy Premier League managers that ditched him in the previous two Gameweeks. Already 50,000 have moved to acquire the Argentine ahead of the weekend.

Aguero’s team-mate Kevin De Bruyne (10.7) offers a solid alternative. Back from injury, he supplied the killer pass for City’s fourth goal on Saturday from a cameo role off the bench. That was the 9.0% owned midfielder’s seventh assist of the season, the highest tally of any player so far; he looks set to start against ‘Boro ahead of the international break.

A word of caution, though, as the Teesside team may not be as obliging as West Brom. Aitor Karanka’s troops have conceded just twice and kept two clean sheets over their last four league fixtures – one of them at the Emirates.

Interest in another star of Gameweek 10, Alexis Sanchez (11.4), may be muted this week, with a tough North London derby clash with Tottenham Hotspur beckoning.

Despite the 24.9% owned Chilean’s brace away at Sunderland, Spurs will present a far sterner test. Like ‘Boro, they boast a defence that has conceded just twice in their last four outings.

Another London club provide two options that will surely tempt consideration.

With three goals and an assist over his last trio of matches, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard (9.9) looks to be back to his best, flourishing in Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 formation. It would be no surprise to see the 19.9% owned Belgian pushing Aguero for top spot this week ahead of Everton’s visit to Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, his team-mate Diego Costa (10.4) has also proved a revelation, topping the scoring charts with eight goals and providing just two blanks over his ten Gameweeks.

The 38.2% owned Spain international has also crushed the notion he cannot earn bonus points, accruing seven to this point.

Liverpool present a raft of alternative candidates when Watford visit Anfield.

Philippe Coutinho (8.5) brought his season assist tally to five at the weekend and has also found the net on four occasions.

Roberto Firmino (8.6) is just eight FPL points behind him and another Red to offer consistent returns. The “false nine” has delivered attacking returns in three of his last four Gameweeks.

With 34 FPL points across his previous four Anfield matches, Sadio Mane (9.0) is another armband candidate from Liverpool’s fluid attacking midfield. Of the trio, Coutinho is by far the most popular, commanding a 40.9% ownership, more than any other midfielder.

Two south coast teams offer some left-field options thanks to kind match-ups in Gameweek 11.

Hull City showed spirit in the 1-0 defeat to Watford but may struggle to keep Southampton at bay at the KCOM Stadium.

The Saints’ Charlie Austin (6.6) presents a differential option for the trip to Humberside. The 12% owned striker has scored four times since claiming a starting role in Gameweek 5.

With four goals shipped at home to Arsenal on Saturday, Sunderland’s defence remains in an obliging mood.

Their visit to Bournemouth presents Cherries forward Callum Wilson (6.6) with a good opportunity of adding to his three-goal tally, all of which have been scored at the Vitality Stadium.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Having watched MOTD 5 things things spring to mind
    1) Sanchez is awesome
    2) Why is Heaton not England no1?
    3) We've decided that Hull are the whipping boys but Sunderland look a lot more shambolic, might change my punt from Redmond to a Bournemouth mid
    4) WILL IBRAHIMAVIC EVER SCORE AGAIN?
    5) Liverpool defence, traffic cones would be way more cost effective

Have 2FT and am considering a hit with some great runs of fixtures coming up for Liverpool, Leicester, Man City and approaching for Chelsea and Southampton, along with a few tough games for Arsenal, Spurs, Everton and West Ham.

    A) Ozil, Bolasie, Bellerin > Fuchs, KDB, Redmond (Kun/KDB double, then switch him to Hazard in GW15).
    B) Ozil, Bellerin > Fuchs, KDB
    C) Ozil, Bolasie > Sterling, Redmond
    D) Ozil, Bolasie, Antonio, Bellerin > Sterling, Firmino, Chadli, Fuchs (-8)

The guys in caps I'm planning to get rid of:
    Foster, 4.0; Bellerin, Vertonghen, McAuley, A.Smith, 3.9; Alexis, OZIL, Coutinho, ANTONIO, BOLASIE; Kun, Deeney, 4.4;

Currently favouring B, then getting Firmino for GW13, after the Southampton game.

Yeah, I can't decide if it's worth the -4 or not, since Bolasie > Redmond is a swap of equal value I can leave it.

However, I do fancy Redmond vs. Hull and that Liverpool defence, then they have Everton before a great run of fixtures. Whereas Bolasie has United, Chelsea and Southampton in the next 4.

I've took a minus 4 this week, probably minus 8 by the end to get rid of Son.

I've gone for Austin v Hull.

Austin is a great pick, high goal involvement. Might see if I can switch to 343 with a -4 and get him in actually...

Got to be A if for the rest of the season. Sterling will get more involvement over the season and Lukaku is better than 8m options, if you don't have aguero you could squeeze haz or sanchez in also or both if you want to cut costs elsewhere

I was going to post exactly the same question.
Here's what I feel. I think Redmond (hul, LIV) is a better pick than Chadli (lei, BUR) for next 2 gameweeks comparing the fixtures and how attacking the teams are. I think start with Morgan + Redmond and then upgrade to Chadli after 2 weeks.

      Even I already have Austin.

Guardiola questions Aguero's mentality: 'He must convince"

      Full quote:

“In the box he is at that level,” Guardiola told reporters. “But Aguero has to convince. He’s one of the nicest players I ever trained in my career. It’s a pleasure for me to work with nice people and Sergio is one of the best ones by far. But to convince people he has to believe how good he is and how we need him. He has to try that. It is not about how many goals he scores because we’re happy with the scoring. If he doesn’t score it is not because I’m not happy with him, his behaviour or body language. When he is good everything can happen in our team. Never in his career has he been aggressive. I don’t want Aguero to run behind the central defenders, I don’t want Aguero to jump higher than the other strikers – they’re taller than him. I’m talking about he has to feel how important he is for us. When he’s happy of course all the team is happy.”

Perplexing. He likes goalscorers to get involved with passing, pressing etc. Just won't alter his tactics to accommodate, even for someone like Aguero - saw it happen at Barca with Eto'o and Ibra, and on record as saying he'd prefer all midfielders with no strikers.

Really can't understand him. Surely Iheanacho needs to convince. Kun does not.

Beginning to see what Ibra was "saying" in his book about him being a bit of an odd one.

It took selling Eto'o, Ibra and Ronaldinho to build the greatest club side in history. I think Pep knows what he's doing.

This is why Pep wants more: http://www.squawka.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/MO.png

I get his record and all that, but I do think this 'greatest club side in history' tag is banded about far too much for that team.

Ajax in the 70s achieved and innovated more (and played more attractive football, Milan of the 90s were practically unbeatable, and then you've got the likes of Madrid in the 60s, again achieving more.

I feel football has continually progressed though. Physically and importantly tactically. You watch matches of the 'great' Brazil sides and tactically it's a joke. You watch the Dutch side's full press in the 70's and it looks like a kids game.

If you look at it in terms of relative to that teams era, then we could find common ground, but if you were to pluck those historically great sides from history and place them against today's teams, I don't think they'd stand a chance.

      1) Southampton - great run til Feb: looking at VVD for Mustafi this week, and then Austin in for one of Costa/Kaku/Kun once an injury / suspension arises. Hull away next, then 2 tough but home fixtures, followed by a really good run that I think we'd all like a double up on

      2) Leicester - great little run now, but worried about rotation with the UCL

      3) WBA after internationals (Chadli coming in for that home game vs. Hull)

5.2 too expensive for 5th mid and too cheap for 4th

        Thanks

        Was thinking Pieters

5.2 mid allows Son > Haz & will rotate with Capoue

        Foster / Pickford
        Walker (> Alonso eventually) / Stones / Pieters / Evans / Amat
        Sanchez / Hazard / Firmino / ??? / Capoue
        Aguero / Lukaku / Austin

        Balanced enough I think

Did payet -> hazard earlier and still have 1 FT left, 1mil ITB.

    My front 8 are:
    Sanchez hazard mane firmino Allen
    Lukaku deeney Wilson.

    Thinking of
    (A) deeney to Austin
    (B) Sanchez to KDB (will get him back after Man U.. tough fixtures + internationals. He's on early kickoff too against Man U)
    (C) deeney and Sanchez for Austin and KDB (-4)
    (D) save

I am afraid if I do (A), the lack of man c cover will punish me.

Kept him so I could captain for the Burnley game...

Costa (4 YCs) and Lukaku (fixtures) are stupidly putting me off for now. Ibras underlying stats are brilliant. Itll only be a matter of time before he regresses to the norm

Save it - definitely not worth a transfer to sort out Amat, especially if you weren't going to play him anyway.

I have Amat as my 2nd sub (Fletcher 1st, lol) plus also Jaki, and will leave it for now - removing anyone seems like such a waste, especially with internationals after next week which'll probably need 2FTs to recover from given the usual mass injuries / flagging that occurs over the break!!

    Collins & Bolasie - Stones & Gundogan (-4)?

Don't think Bolasie > Gundogan is worth -4. Gundogan averages a goal every 10 games in his career so far, his current scoring rate probably won't continue.

    A) Bellerin, Ozil, 4.4 > Morgan, Firmino, Austin (switching to 343)
    B) Bellerin, Ozil, Bolasie > Fuchs, KDB, Redmond (keeping 352, no double Liverpool)

    Both for a -4 hit.

    Foster (4.0)
    BELLERIN, Vertonghen, A.Smith (McAuley, 3.9)
    Alexis, OZIL, Coutinho, Antonio, BOLASIE
    Kun, Deeney (4.4)

I will lose Antonio next week.

I'll get an Arsenal defender back in after their tough fixtures in the next few weeks. I went triple for the good fixtures, don't want it for the bad ones.

Deeney > Austin is a different move I might make and stick to 352. Antonio has Stoke next up so isn't a priority this week, even though West Ham are playing poorly. Terrible WHU fixtures after that though, he is out next week 100%.

Do Deeney > Austen now or take the price rise and wait until after the Inter game? Could Deeney drop beforehand too?

    Bit of help needed please

    Pickford Jaku
    Holebas Kosc Amat Lovren McAuley
    Sanchez Capoue Snodgrass Firmino Shaqiri
    Kun Lukaku Benteke

£1.5M in the bank. Need to shift Snodgrass & Benteke
    Thinking (8 point hit)
    Benteke - Austin
    Snodgrass - Coutinho
    Capoue - 4.7 Mid

    OR
    Benteke - Austin
    Snodgrass - Chadli
    4 point hit

If your taking the -8 and bought Capoue at 4.5 I'd go mega cheap like De Roon and take the cash

Having a bit of an existential crisis after some dubious transfer decision-making last week - advice appreciated...

    Gomes (Pickford)
    Walker Valencia Bellerin Holebas (Smith)
    Walcott Firmino Capoue (Coquelin, Fletcher)
    Lukaku Kun Costa

Generally favour a 3-4-3 (hard to drop any of those 3 strikers at the moment), but otherwise trying to overhaul the weak apects of the team, of which there are many.

    Currently planning:
    Valencia>Lovren
    Walker>Keane/Mee
    Gomes>Heaton/Boruc

This would leave 2.9m in the bank to fix my dire midfield - recommendations?
Frustrated by Theo - he's a streaky player so worried that an injury then a couple of tricky games will mean a drop in points and cash, so tempted to bring in Coutinho? Should I upgrade Capoue to a mid-ranger, or lose the deadwood in Coquelin/Fletch? Will I regret not finding a way to bring in Hazard/Sanchez?

    So many questions!

need to downgrade a striker/defender to upgrade that midfield in any way possible. Unfortunately one of the poorest mids ive seen on here.

Yeah, that's the plan - overloaded in defence and now need to save myself.

If I can make the extra 2.9m from downgrading defence, where would it be best spent? Theo>Coutinho? Upgrading Capoue? Upgrading Coquelin? A combination of these?

You lot are going to think I'm a bit nutty but I'm considering Stones. Really liking the positions he's been getting in to and he's been unlucky not have bagged a couple by now. In addition if City are ever going to get clean sheets it's going to be in this run of games.

But on that note, Stones or Morgan?

Stones is one I'm fairly happy that I stubbornly kept hold of for this long.

Didn't play him at the weekend, though 😆
