There’s now little debate required – we need to get Eden Hazard in our squads.

Watching him bewitch the Everton defence, weaving patterns with Diego Costa and a revitalised Pedro was evidence enough. Dive into the numbers, and it’s confirmed.

Seven goals in his last eight matches for club and country. Underneath, Hazard’s vital statistics – particularly his goal threat – are outperforming even his Player of the Year season.

Throw in the fact that he’s the only top bracket midfielder that boasts penalties, plus Chelsea’s irresistible form and an array of Christmas fixtures that scream goals and points and the evidence is overwhelming.

I’m struggling to see any argument against Hazard.

The real debate surrounds how we slice our squads up to make way.

Just days ago I raised the possibility of shedding Alexis Sanchez – the leading FPL points scorer before today – and now, in my squad at least, it rears it’s head once again.

I can retain Sanchez if I lose Walcott but, in doing so, I’m putting faith in Ilkay Gundogan and, also, restricting myself to forever scrimping across my back five.

Walcott is an unreliable Fantasy asset, playing as part of an Arsenal squad rich in attacking options.

Inevitably, he will find himself rotated. By choosing him over Sanchez, I will forever be clenched as the teamsheet is announced, or as the clock hits 70 minutes.

But there is a 3.6 gap between Walcott and Sanchez. Meanwhile, the underlying stats show that, in terms of average goal threat, the former is even outperforming the Chilean.

I look ahead to the fixtures and wonder if I can continue to get by with a restricted budget. If Gundogan can deliver on his promise and if Jose Holebas and Gareth McAuley are enough.

Sacrificing Sanchez will dissolve such concerns. If he frustrates, I will have the funds to replace Walcott, perhaps with a second Liverpool midfielder, while still having the means to upgrade the defence to seize upon Chelsea’s obvious and unparalleled resilience.

Sanchez could very easily end the season as the top scoring FPL asset – although Hazard will likely have a say in that.

But retaining Sanchez restricts the flexibility to react to form and fixtures and, if I keep him now, he’s locked in – unlikely to leave my squad unless stricken by injury.

While he’ll doubtless gain me handsome returns in the meantime, will those points outweigh what can be won with Walcott and the extra 3.6?

It’s an agonising scenario – particularly with Arsenal yet to take the field.

Urged along by a volatile market, like a lot of folk this evening, I’m driven to make changes in the next few hours.

But I know that tomorrow’s evidence will likely provide answers – Walcott’s absence, an ineffectual 60-minute appearance or a steller display would make the decision far easier.

I’m likely to watch prices rise and fall tonight, waiting for more evidence before making what seems a crunch decision.

But one choice is already made – Hazard will be in my lineup for Gameweek 12.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Grant / Jaku
    Fuchs / Walker / Holebas / McAuley / Smith
    Sanchez / Hazard / Coutinho / Firmino / Allen
    Aguero / Austin / Vokes

    0.3 ITB / 0FT

I'm looking to free up some cash for Jaku > Heaton especially since Butland may be back soon. Need 0.4 more, maybe 0.5 if Heaton rises again. Should I downgrade Smith or Walker? Or anyone else?

    Aguero Lukaku Benteke

If you haven't wildcarded up to this point, why wildcard this? It's not in bad shape really. A - 4 could sort this. Unless you feel you need Hazard and need to keep Sancbez. Then you may have no choice.

Experts: What is the best bet?

    a) Nyom - saves a lot of cash to be spent elsewhere - but is he a safe starter?
    b) Evans - also cheap - but injury prone?

You can get Hazard only by downgraiding Sanchez. Or you can downgrade Walcott to Gundogan and use the founds to bring in a Chelsea defender.

See what Walcott does today. Has been oversold IMO - he is playing similar to Hazard (albeit in a different way as he does not dribble as much). Firmino and Sanchez to Hazard and Walcott if Theo plays well today. Sanchez will be rested during the season (he has CL, League Cup and Internationals in South America) so I don't see why he is more of a gametime risk than Walcott.

You have a point but I think that Wally is more rotation risk that Sanchez. 2 games with no goal and he may be dropped. But Hazard + Walcott combo gives me 1.9 M to upgrade elsewhere. Tempting.

People bringing in Hazard early just to save 0.1 may actually be making their team values worse, as they may have left potential dropppers in that are yet to play.
For example people took him out for Walcott who could be a great price riser himself if scores tomorrow, and those same people left Firmino and co in who could be big fallers. So taking out the wrong one for Hazard will cost more than it gains as it takes Two rises to counteract one fall

In my opinion the most sensible way to afford Aguero and play 3-4-3 is to have an über-cheap defensive rotation (roughly a 5 x 4.5 combo).

This is because so many premium attackers are performing well and fitting them in alongside expensive defenders is very hard to do. Personally I wouldn't want to be relying on the likes of Allen or Gundogan as 4th midfielder though that's another option.

The alternative is to switch to a 4-4-2, that also enables more funds in the defence.

Personally I have taken Aguero out and intend to leave him out at least until after Xmas. How well I will fare will come down to the captaincy issue more than anything else.

FT transfer of Sterling > Hazard? Has to be today if I do (should have been yesterday!) Will mean I'm going to have to be without Coutinho or Firmino going forward though.

Sterling to Hazard seems a wise move. Not having a Liverpool mid is going to give you heart attacks when they play. Like with me and the CHelsea game yesterday!

    Pickford
    Evans Vertonghen Pieters
    Antonio Firmino Gundogan Coutinho
    Ibrahimovic Lukaku Aguero

    Heaton Capoue Clyne Amat

OK for next GW which is obviously a while off but I need Chelsea cover right that is now clear.

Ibra seems to be my only enabler to get Hazard.
Is Antonio > Hazard & Ibra > Defoe the way to go?

Hi....any views on vokes at 6.1 as a possible option for a 3rd striker?

Could be used in a squad that rotates between 352 and 343.

Is he nailed with gray on the scene?

Is it worth getting on the vokeswagon?

Annoying. Very difficult to be patient, and I struggle with that at the best of times!!

I think the increased activity of FPL Twitter, etc. is probably increasing the activity of managers who don't see the wisdom of waiting until the games have been played, let alone see out the IB.

Don't think it's for the better, but it is what it is. Have to work with it.

    REPOST.

My team is quite problematic. Eventhough leading my ML, but the lead already being reduced by a mere 15 points which previously almost 70 points.

    Anything to improve my team?

    Foster Pickford

    Kosc Rose Evans Pieters Amat

    Sanchez Wally Firm Cout Allen

    Kun Kaku Keane

    1FT & 0.1ITB

Considering to do Rose + Wally + Sanchez --> Fuchs + Hazard + Ozil.

    Just enough to do this.

Your team isn't that bad. And I'm not sure an 8 point hit is advisable when you have just a 15 point lead.

I'd probably just do Sanchez > Hazard, depending on today's line-ups/performances. Maybe one hit to get Ozl in too.

He played awesome, after a performance like yesterday, Oscar and Willian will be on the bench until after Xmas unless they can replace Moses or Alonso. He's also started the last 5.

      3. Ruth_NZ
        • 11 Years

Pedro may be OK immediately because the team is in such good form. But Willian is probably 1st choice for that position under normal circumstances. Pedro will need to continue to play out of his skin to keep the slot.

I guess there could also be an outside possibility of Willian playing RWB and displacing Moses.

        1. Jonny Sutt
          • 11 Years

Pedro looks more of a threat than William to me and with no defensive duties as part of a forward 3 I can see him performing over the Xmas period. Plus he is replaced for the last 20 in a match and pedro seems quite content to play that role which gives Oscar or Willian 20 minutes of game time too.

Option 1. Note the following from the article:

"But there is a 3.6 gap between Walcott and Sanchez. Meanwhile, the underlying stats show that, in terms of average goal threat, the former is even outperforming the Chilean."

What makes Sanchez less of a rotation risk than Walcott. Giroud is back, Sanchez will play CL and League Cup. Sanchez also plays his internationals in South America - will he be rested next gameweek and Giroud starts? Walcott may not even play for England....
