Wayne Rooney is handed a reprieve as Marcus Rashford drops to the United bench. David Moyes’ decision to opt for 4-4-2 earns Sunderland a first win of the season, though Bob Bradley ditches a similar formation at the break as Swansea City are beaten by United.

After assessing the first ten teams yesterday, we now cast an eye over the remaining half for lessons learned in Gameweek 11..

Manchester United

Starting XI: De Gea; Young, Jones, Rojo, Darmian; Carrick, Fellaini, Pogba (Fosu-Mensah 90); Mata (Lingard 82), Rooney (Schneiderlin 89), Ibrahimovic.

  • Jose Mourinho made five changes from the side that drew 0-0 against Burnley for the trip to south Wales. This meant that Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Michael Carrick, Marouane Fellaini and Wayne Rooney came in for Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford and the suspended Ander Herrera.
  • Those changes saw Mourinho opt for a 4-1-4-1 formation at the Liberty Stadium, with Carrick stationed in the defensive midfield role. Juan Mata (right) and Rooney (left) started out wide, with Paul Pogba and Fellaini in central midfield. In defence, Young and Darmian were stationed at right-back and left-back respectively, allowing Jones and Marcos Rojo to form the central defensive partnership.
  • With the match won, Mourinho introduced Lingard, Morgan Schneiderlin and Timothy Fosu-Mensah late on, as Mata, Rooney and Pogba made way.
  • Although United cruised to victory against Swansea City, a much sterner test awaits at home to Arsenal after the international break. Chris Smalling (foot) and Shaw (leg) could push for recalls in defence, though Mourinho was somewhat critical of the pair post-match. Herrera will be back from suspension, offering an alternative to both Carrick and Fellaini. In the wide positions, Rashford, Martial and Lingard may come back into contention, though with Zlatan Ibrahimovic suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season, one of Rooney, Rashford or Martial look set to fill in as the lone striker.

Risk Areas: Defence, Central Midfield, Flanks, Lone Striker

Middlesbrough

Starting XI: Valdes; Barragan, Chambers, Gibson, Friend; De Roon, Clayton; Traore (Stuani 90), Forshaw, Downing (Fischer 78); Negredo.

  • Aitor Karanka made one change from the side that beat Bournemouth 2-0 for the trip to the Etihad, with Marten de Roon coming in for the suspended Gaston Ramirez.
  • De Roon started alongside Adam Forshaw in central midfield, in a 4-1-4-1 formation. Adama Traore (right) and Stewart Downing (left) operated out wide, while Adam Clayton was stationed in the defensive midfield role.
  • Karanka made just two late substitutions, as Viktor Fischer provided some fresh legs in place of Downing for the final 12 minutes. Cristhian Stuani did likewise on the opposite flank, coming on for Traore.
  • With ‘Boro set to host Chelsea after the international break, Karanka may adopt the same formation, resisting the temptation to go for his favoured 4-2-3-1. Clayton, Forshaw and De Roon could continue in the middle, then, with the returning Ramirez more likely to threaten Downing’s role on the left. Otherwise, there are few selection issues for Karanka to ponder.

Risk Areas: Central Midfield, Attacking Midfield

Southampton

Starting XI: Forster; Yoshida, Fonte, Van Dijk, Bertrand; Clasie (Ward-Prowse 79), Romeu; Tadic (Boufal 66), Davis, Redmond (Rodriguez 79); Austin.

  • Claude Puel made one adjustment for the trip to the KCOM Stadium, with Maya Yoshida coming in for Cuco Martina.
  • Yoshida started at right-back for Saints, while Puel resisted the temptation to hand a first Premier League start to Sofiane Boufal. This meant that Dusan Tadic, Nathan Redmond and Charlie Austin again formed the front three.
  • Boufal was the first player to be introduced off the bench, though, coming on in place of Tadic after 66 minutes. The new boy played on the left wing, with Austin moving into the central striker role, and Redmond to the right. Then, with 11 minutes remaining, James Ward-Prowse and Jay Rodriguez were brought on for Jordy Clasie and Redmond in straight swaps.
  • After conceding another two goals on Sunday, Puel will be desperate to have Cedric Soares (ankle) back to face Liverpool after the international break. The fact Yoshida was used at right-back on the weekend suggests Puel doesn’t have too much faith in Martina as an option. With over a week to further improve his fitness levels, Boufal may come into contention for a start against Liverpool, with Tadic and Redmond’s places appearing the most at risk.

Current Status: Fairly Settled
Risk Areas: Right-Back, Flanks

Stoke City

Starting XI: Grant, Bardsley, Shawcross, Martins Indi, Pieters; Whelan (Bojan 71), Adam; Walters, Allen, Ramadan Sobhi (Diouf 84); Bony (Crouch 71).

  • Mark Hughes was forced into making two changes from the side that beat Swansea City 3-1 for the trip to the London Stadium. Ramadan Sobhi replaced the suspended Marko Arnautovic, while Jon Walters earned a recall in for the injured Xherdan Shaqiri.
  • Sobhi and Walters played on the left and right respectively of the attacking midfield trio in the 4-2-3-1 formation favoured by Hughes.
  • Shortly after going a goal behind, Hughes turned to Bojan and Peter Crouch off the bench, with Glenn Whelan and Wilfried Bony making way. Crouch took over as the lone striker, while Bojan operated in the No 10 role, leaving Joe Allen and Charlie Adam in central midfield. Mame Biram Diouf was introduced late on in place of Sobhi in a straight swap.
  • Arnautovic will return for the home clash against Bournemouth after serving his one-match suspension, while Shaqiri (hamstring) should have a good chance of being fit following the break. Geoff Cameron is another who should have enough time to recover from a knee injury, and perhaps come back into the side at the expense of Adam in the middle of the park. Bojan staked a claim for a starting spot with his goal off the bench, but it remains unlikely he’ll force his way back in just yet.

Risk Areas: Central Midfield, Flanks

Sunderland

Starting XI: Pickford; Jones, Kone, Djilobodji, van Aanholt; Pienaar, McNair (Denayer 72), Ndong, Watmore (Love 90); Anichebe, Defoe (Gooch 90).

  • Sunderland boss David Moyes made three alterations for the trip to Bournemouth, with Papy Djilobodji earning a recall in place of the injured John O’Shea, while Paddy McNair and Victor Anichebe came in for Jack Rodwell and Wahbi Khazri.
  • Anichebe’s inclusion saw Moyes opt for a 4-4-2 at the Vitality Stadium, with the powerful forward partnering Jermain Defoe up front. Duncan Watmore (right) and Steven Pienaar (left) started out wide, with McNair joining Didier Ndong in central midfield. Djilobodji partnered Lamine Kone in central defence.
  • Not long after Pienaar was sent off after receiving his second yellow card, Moyes decided to introduce Jason Denayer in place of McNair. The Belgian joined Kone and Djilobodji in central defence, with Sunderland moving to something akin to a 5-3-1 formation, with Anichebe moving to the left side of midfield after Defoe had given them the lead from the penalty spot. Donald Love and Lynden Gooch made appearances during stoppage time as Sunderland held on for the 2-1 victory.
  • After finally finding the winning formula, Moyes will likely stick with a similar side for the home clash against Hull City after the international break. He will be without the suspended Pienaar, though, so one of Khazri, Gooch or Adnan Januzaj may be options to replace the South African, with Patrick van Aanholt also capable of playing in a more advanced role on the left. If the likes of Jan Kirchhoff (hamstring) and Lee Cattermole (back) are available as they continue to build up their match fitness, they may push McNair for a starting berth in central midfield. Anichebe did pick up a rib injury on Saturday, but it’s likely he’ll be fit to face the Tigers.

Current Status: Fairly Settled
Risk Areas: Central Midfield, Left Wing

Swansea City

Starting XI: Fabianski; Rangel, Van der Hoorn, Mawson, Kingsley; Routledge (Barrow 46), Britton (Fer 70), Ki Sung-yeung, Sigurdsson; Borja Baston, Llorente (Montero 46).

  • Bob Bradley made four alterations for the home clash against Manchester United, with Angel Rangel, Stephen Kingsley, Leon Britton and Borja Baston earning recalls in place of Kyle Naughton, Neil Taylor, Leroy Fer and Modou Barrow.
  • Those changes saw Bradley switch from the 4-2-3-1 used in the 3-1 defeat to Stoke City to a 4-4-2, with Borja partnering Fernando Llorente in attack. Gylfi Sigurdsson was forced to play on the left side of midfield, with Wayne Routledge on the opposite flank. Ki Sung-yeung partnered Britton in central midfield, while Rangel and Kingsley slotted in at right-back and left-back respectively.
  • But following a dreadful first-half display which saw the home side head into the break 3-0 down, Bradley made a double substitution, with the fit-again Jefferson Montero and Barrow replacing Routledge and Llorente. Those changes saw the Swans switch back to their usual 4-2-3-1 formation, with Montero (left), Sigurdsson (No 10) and Barrow (right) forming the attacking midfield trio behind lone striker Borja. The tiring Britton was replaced by Fer in central midfield for the final 20 minutes.
  • Given the 4-4-2 was something of a disaster, Bradley will likely revert back to 4-2-3-1 for the trip to Goodison Park after the international break. Montero and one of Routledge or Barrow should start out wide, with either Borja or Llorente operating as the lone striker. He could yet revisit using Sigurdsson as a “false nine” though if he looks to go with a more defensive 4-3-3 against Everton. Fer may challenge Britton for a starting spot in midfield, while Naughton and Amat in particular could push for recalls in place of Rangel and either Mike van der Hoorn or Alfie Mawson. Taylor is another who may come back into the reckoning at left-back in place of Kingsley.

Risk Areas: Defence, Central Midfield, Flanks, Lone Striker

Tottenham Hotspur

Starting XI: Lloris; Dier, Wimmer, Vertonghen; Walker (Trippier 80), Wanyama, Dembele, Rose; Eriksen; Son Heung-min (Winks 89), Kane (Janssen 73).

  • Mauricio Pochettino made two changes for the short trip to the Emirates, with Kevin Wimmer and the fit-again Harry Kane starting in place of the injured Dele Alli and Vincent Janssen.
  • Those changes saw the Argentine opt for a different formation, deciding upon a 3-4-1-2 system. Wimmer joined Eric Dier and Jan Vertonghen in a three-man backline, with Kyle Walker and Danny Rose used in the wing-back positions. Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele started in central midfield, with Christian Eriksen utilised in the No 10 role behind Kane and Son Heung-min.
  • Pochettino’s first substitution saw Janssen take over from a tiring Kane in a straight swap for the final 17 minutes. Then, after suffering a knock, Walker had to be withdrawn with 10 minutes left, with Kieran Trippier taking his place in a straight swap. Harry Winks entered the fray in place of Son in a defensive move late on to help pack the midfield, and try to hold on for a point.
  • While the 3-4-1-2 worked very well on Sunday, it remains unlikely Pochettino will use that system once Toby Alderweireld (knee) returns to full fitness. The Belgian may be available after the international break for the London derby against West Ham United, so we may see Spurs revert to the more familiar 4-2-3-1 system. Either Dier or Wanyama would partner Dembele at the base of midfield in that formation, with Eriksen set to continue in the No 10 role given that Alli is unlikely to be fit to face the Hammers. Erik Lamela should have more chance of recovering from his hip problem, while Moussa Sissoko will return from suspension, so one of those two may start on the right, with Son perhaps stationed on the left, leaving Kane as the lone striker.

Risk Areas: Defence, Flanks

Watford

Starting XI: Gomes (Pantilimon 33): Janmaat, Kaboul, Britos, Holebas; Amrabat, Behrami (Watson 60), Capoue, Pereyra; Igalho, Deeney.

  • Walter Mazzarri was forced into making one change for the trip to Anfield, with Daryl Janmaat coming in for the injured Sebastian Prodl.
  • Watford’s shape was more like a 4-4-2 formation, with Janmaat slotting alongside Younes Kaboul, Miguel Britos and Jose Holebas. Nordin Amrabat continued as the right, with Roberto Pereyra on the opposite flank.
  • Mazzarri was forced into making a change during the first half, after Heurelho Gomes suffered a knee injury. He was replaced by Costel Pantilimon in goal for the Hornets. The only other substitution made by Mazzarri saw Ben Watson take over from Valon Behrami in central midfield for the final half hour.
  • After shipping six goals at Anfield, Mazzarri will be desperate to have Prodl available for the home clash against Leicester City, although the defender faces a race against time to recover from a groin injury. If the Austrian is passed fit, Janmaat could be in line to replace Amrabat at right wing-back in a 3-5-2, although Mazzarri does have an issue to address on the left, with Jose Holebas suspended for the Foxes clash after picking up his fifth booking of the season. Amrabat or Juan Zuniga may fill in for Holebas, then, with Kenedy the other option providing he can recover from a knock. Craig Cathcart would be another option in defence if he can recover from a groin issue. Isaac Success could provide an alternative to Odion Ighalo in attack providing he can recover from a foot injury in time.

Risk Areas: Central Defence, Wing-Backs

West Bromwich Albion

Starting XI: Foster; Dawson, Evans, McAuley, Nyom; Yacob; Phillips (Gardner 83), Fletcher, Morrison (Robson-Kanu 90), Brunt; Rondon.

  • Tony Pulis made three alterations from the side that lost 4-0 to Man City for the trip to the King Power Stadium. Claudio Yacob returned from suspension to replace Jonas Olsson, Matt Phillips earned a recall in place of the injured Nacer Chadli and James Morrison came in for the suspended James McClean.
  • Yacob returned to partner Darren Fletcher in the double-pivot of a 4-2-3-1, allowing Jonny Evans to revert to centre-back alongside Gareth McAuley. Morrison was handed a central support role, with Brunt (right) and Phillips (left) stationed out wide for the Baggies behind lone striker Salomon Rondon.
  • Such was the level of performance from his side, Pulis only made two substitutions late on, with Craig Gardner replacing Phillips, while Hal Robson-Kanu got a brief run-out in place of Morrison.
  • While the Baggies performed impressively on Sunday, Pulis will be desperate to have Chadli back from his knee injury in time to face Burley after the international break. The Belgian could either return in the “No 10” role or out wide, whilst McClean will also be pushing for the spot on the left flank. Rondon will have to be checked given he’ll now fly off to represent Peru over the international break, but with West Brom playing on Monday night in Gameweek 12, he should have enough time to fully recover and be able to start against the Clarets.

Risk Areas: Central Midfield, Flanks

West Ham United

Starting XI: Adrian; Kouyate, Collins, Ogbonna; Antonio, Noble, Obiang (Feghouli 89), Cresswell, Lanzini (Fernandes 62), Ayew (Fletcher 62) Payet.

  • Slaven Bilic made two changes for the home encounter against Stoke City, with James Collins drafted in for the suspended Winston Reid, while Andre Ayew replaced Edimilson Fernandes.
  • Ayew’s inclusion as the central striker in the 3-4-2-1 formation meant Michail Antonio switched to right wing-back for the Hammers. Collins joined Angelo Ogbonna and Cheikhou Kouyate in the three-man backline.
  • With the match goalless, Bilic opted to make a double substitution just after the hour mark, as Fernandes and Ashley Fletcher came on in place of Manuel Lanzini and Ayew. Those changes saw Antonio move forward to the right in what was more of a front three, with Fletcher playing as the central striker. Fernandes played in the familiar position of right wing-back. As a final roll of the dice in search of a late winner, Bilic sent on Sofiane Feghouli for Pedro Obiang, leaving only Mark Noble as a deep-lying midfielder.
  • With Reid available to face Tottenham Hotspur after serving his one-match ban, he’s likely to return to the starting XI in place of Collins if he can shake off a hamstring injury. The Welshman could retain his place, then, particuarly if Cheikhou Kouyate is shifted out of defence and into central midfield to cover for the suspended Mark Noble. Bilic will probably continue with Ayew as the central striker, but Fletcher and Antonio are other options in that position, while Andy Carroll (knee) should be nearing a first-team return.

Do people think City's dip in form/results is due to them being a bit crap of late, or more so due to opponents adapting their style to curtail them?

And will the same happen to Liverpool? Will more managers take a leaf out of Mourinho's book and spend 90mins with 10 behind the ball in fear of getting thumped like Watford did?

Well that's why I said "form/results" as it's mostly results that have seen the dip rather than their form.

Very rarely can a team win the league playing like Liverpool.

'96 Newcastle came very close, but generally speaking you need to be able to defend, you're not going to score 2-3 goals every game.

Man City are trying to play a different way, kudos to them for trying, but Pep needs to learn he's in for a game every week.

Arsenal for the league this year.

Liverpool under Rodgers is the other perfect example of this.

United were generally pretty solid that season; the goals against were skewed a bit by the consecutive 6-3 and 5-0 defeats to Southampton and Newcastle when we hit a bad patch in the autumn.

I remember the 5-0 lose to Newcastle, when Albert chipped Schmeichel at the end. Great goal.

Anyway, as the old saying goes, you don't win anything...without a good defence.

You're right; remembered those matches being in '96 and got myself confused.

We had a bad Christmas in 95-96 getting done 2-0 at Liverpool, 3-1 at Leeds and 4-1 at Spurs with an injury crisis that saw us have to loan the worst centre half in history - William Prunier. Got our act together from February onwards 🙂

Very pleased with yet another rise on Allen - bought him in for 4.8, now 5.4 so I can sell on at 5.1! Will definitely be doing so week after internationals to bring Arsenal cover back in.

        Ohh, nice!

I've made a lot of money on Costa and Kaku actually - I've had Kun Costa Kaku frontline for a long time now, I see that Costa is now up to 10.6 and my purchase price was 9.9, alongside Kaku at 9.2 to now 9.8 - made 0.3 on each, so a nice 0.6 in total. Could be the difference between a "big hitter" and a compromise in the WC DGW TC BB period later on in the season 🙂

had Allen since 4.8m and had 18pts in one game as a starter and 12 points (11+1) as 1st off the bench.
To be honest for me he's a keeper up until at least GW18 and possibly all the way until Feb if I strengthen my 5th defender.

Nice, same time span as me then! He's only going cos I want to get some Arsenal cover in for their fixtures from Bournemouth onwards in midfield - figure Allen up to Ozil or Wally isn't a bad move, plus I banked a decent amount from him already. If Bojan starts to play again he'll wind up in CM again. I think we might be nearing the end of his bandwagon... But if im wrong it doesn't matter since I have him anyway 🙂

I think Fuchs was kind of a blunder by me last week, got caught up in Fuchsmania when the guys were pushing him on the scoutcast, but they do have v. nice fixtures right up til Jan - I'm a fan of "fire and forget" for defence, so that's kind of ideal.

Good point about Walker. I'm on 5.9 sell value now, so I could side/upgrade him easily enough. Spurs have nice fixtures actually from GW16 (Hull then Burnley both at home to begin with) so a long term plan is to get Kane in for those...

Shortlisted Kane myself, but at that price, rather have KDB + Austin than Kane + lets say Chadli at the moment. Lets hope he hits the form.

I've made a fair bit on Costa - now up to 10.2 SV and 10.5 purchase price from when I bought at 9.9 - so hopefully I'll be able to work out a way to draft him in!

Might end up involving having to compromise and have Walcott instead of Ozil, which I'm reticent to do given Wally's injury record plus replaceability vs Ozil being a perhaps more vital cog in our team.

Sigh... who knows. I hate IBs cos you end up planning a lot and totally missing the actual points... hence why I got Hazard in early this time round as a gamble so I at least have him next week and haven't made some sort of "out there" transfer that looks interesting (e.g. after the first IB I brought in Zaza... oops) but isn't the hard-nosed point scorer I need

One of the WBA boys, I'm looking at Nyom (4.3) or Brunt (4.9) at the moment as my Amat replacement and a rotation option for Pieters... I'm favouring Nyom for the value option despite Brunty being a better FPL pick as it means I have more £££ to invest in the forwards.

          City can't keep a clean sheet. I wouldn't.

Cedric might be a consideration, too.

But at that price, you might as well get someone who is a budget value option and use the extra money (0.9m in your case if you get Nyom at 4.3) to invest up top, given the paucity of clean sheets this year.

Never again. Those games look good but for United, they aren't.

Defensive assets for the home games, maybe. But they don't have the firepower to be worth a short term investment.

Tough one. Wait and see. Likely to have a very congested midfield, and it'll depend a lot on if other options (e.g. Chelsea and Southampton also have a good run around that time) are firing or whatnot.

I'd be liking a Rooney differential perhaps, still capable of double digit returns against teams like those who will "donate" points to United. Depends heavily on whether Wazza has played himself back into the XI for keeps, though!

I think, with all these early transfers, an injury for Hazard will explode this site with moans..
I'm baffled by the quick price rise & fall this year..
Too many wagons here and there and most breaking down some miles away!

It was a huge risk to get on Hazard. I did it because I wanted the 0.1 rise. Stupid, I know. But it's a risk I know could have consequences, just hoping that because Hazard is rarely injured he will be okay, plus Sanchez always has a ? after his international endeavours. So yeah, tenuous, self-reassuring reasoning lol.

But the market is mad this year. Lots of bandwagons that are about price alone (see Gundogan) but a few kind of merited like Joe Allen. Kind of a good habit to spot and get some rises from these kinds of bandwagons, but I do think it's gone a bit far - Sat / Sun night people being on the forums already on a -4 just makes me laugh.

There's bound to be huge injury coming, and I'm liking the idea of the shakeup of the meta - something like Coutinho being ruled out would have huge implications!

Yep, this year I vowed to stop taking hits just to construct TV.
I am 0n 102.5 and I'm happy, even though I know some have already reached 105.

Being owner of both Firmino & Coutinho and knowing that they might be rested the coming GW, helped me keeping cool with the price changes. I'll wait until the eve of next GW to do my transfer for sure.

Yeah I'm not taking hits for TV, only taking them to make my team better - especially in the run up to xmas, I'm going to have to take a couple of -4s next two GWs to replace some dead wood (like Amat) and re-organise (I've got Hazard in, so I'll have to get Ozil/Wally in to cover Arsenal after the United match) but I'm pretty happy with my team atm!

I have Lallana and Firmino - was bricking it until Bobby scored this weekend without Coutinho! - so am in a similar boat to you. I just get the feeling that Hazard is absolutely essential, so I thought I'd get him in at 10.0 before he really began to rise - nice to have if a bandwagon really takes off, which is tends to if the player in question is a "big hitter" coming back into form vs. a differential scoring some points like Allen/Gundog.

I'm waiting til next Friday before I bring a WBA boy in for Amat, though - wana be sure about the -4 (I'll be benching Pieters against Bou at home)

Whilst I got you, which of these do you think is better mate - am doing this over the next 2 GWs, so WBA+Haz this week, then Arsenal+Austin next:
          A) Ozil, Nyom and Austin
          B) Walcott, Brunt and Austin

Not sure which to go to - basically a lot hinges on the WBA guy I choose, don't think I can afford Ozil Brunt Austin sadly without removing Diego Costa over Lukaku, which I don't really want to do because of Chelsea's fixtures and me being unable to fit a Chelsea def in for now...

Yeah Costa being the reason I haven't opted for Hazard yet.
If I will be bringing Hazard, it will be at the cost of Costa.
I do have Evans since my WC in GW4 and Redmond from some weeks back. I lost Wally due to uncertainty of his injury last week.

For your case, if Wally can nail a place, I'd better go for him and Alonso in DEF.
Else, with the hot red form of Ozil, him and Brunt may well do the job. As for Austin, do check out on Shane Long availability, he might snatch some gametime from him.

I've gone for the double up at the minute the performance vs. everton. Probably a mistake but I can't replace Costa with anyone I want atm other than Kane, who perhaps doesn't have the fixtures and would mean I'd definitely have to go with Wally over Ozil.

              Will have to see!

Good point about Chaz, I feel like he's the one to own over next few months - Sou fixtures lit up green after LIV EVE home until February or something, v hard to ignore.

It's crazy this year. My team value is going down way quicker than last year. All because people transfer good players out for that weeks ESSENTIAL player. But, that's the game. I kinda like the change. Move with the times I guess. Hazard in

Exactly, people are so ruthless in their changes.
1 bad performance and the player is sold the same day. That's awful, FPL was once about patience!
I just hope half of these ruthless players don't quit by end of the year itself, having put their teams in so bad state.

Great to read a proper discussion instead of the usual "pick my team for me" posts with one or no replies.

I'm looking forward to Giroud and Kane shaking things up. I'm aiming for something like:

      Hazard, Firmino, Coutinho, Walcott
      Aguero, Kane, 6.6

Will monitor Kane and Walcott after the break.

I think people who kept Sanchez have been very prudent, wish I was one of them but Hazard's v Everton was too exciting to ignore.

Yeah it is going to be very interesting if Kane and Giroud enters the race for our favor. Also if United gets on track this season will be absolutely crazy.

If I were you, I would find that extra 0,1 for your 3rd attacker and get Austin. He's on form and take a look at his fixtures all the way until GW25.

for me it was you could easily be seeing Haz +.3 and Sterling -.3m this GW and that's just too big a swing.
I held Sterling too long as I watched him against Barca and thought he played well and Boro at home seemed a good fixture that would at least put the brake on his price drops.

I have a thought about just go with cheap defense. Is there really worth going with this premium defenders?

I have invested a lot in defense but only got a better team value. I have a dream with this front 7 and it is reachable in 2 games:

    Foster-Jaku
    4.5 - 4.5 - Holebas - Friend - Amat
    Firm - Coutinho - Sanchez - Hazard - 4.4
    Lukaku - Kun - Austin

What are your thoughts about this dilemma? There are not that many clean sheets and its so frustrating when you invest in expensive defence...

I've not been too sure about Pedro's place.

We have no idea how badly Willian's bereavement has affected him...for all we know he may have had plenty of time off from training etc. Just like folk in any walk of life when they lose a parent his mind may just no be up to it right now.

Pedro has given Conte a big problem though because he's been fantastic, even though he only started as a deputy to begin with. I'd steer clear for a couple of weeks yet to see what happens.

Btw. I feel a bit cheated out of some big pts. I was one of the first to notice that Hazard and Willian(Pedro) wasn't playing either side of Costa as per the team sheet but had been given license to roam. I was bugging up Willian as a top under the radar pick due to that..

        Choose one from GW15:

        A) Sanchez & Redmond

        B) Ozil & Siggy

        Appreciate your thoughts!

Will have to monitor the situation. I forgot to mention I have Austin. I Think siggy will offer much better value than Redmond from GW15-20. But need to monitor Sanchez's position.

        If you could only have one from each;

        a. Firmino
        b. Coutinho
        c. Mane

        1. Walcott
        2. Ozil

haha okay then 😉 On a WC.

              Gundogan or Snoddy?

Crazy to triple up WBA defence for the next 3? Or is doubling enough with Pieters. Can't afford premium defenders, as I am choosing a stronger front 8.

                  Thanks...

On a WC, but this is my current draft.

                  Heaton, Pick
                  Holebas, Kingsley, McAuley, Evans, Nyom
                  Sanchez, Hazard, Coutinho, Gundogan, Allen
                  Aguero, Lukaku, Austin

Bought Gundo for 5,5 (for Snodgrass because I thought he was out longer). So it is a tough call between him an Snoddy.

Oh, ok...No Lose Gun for du Roon(4.3m) and beef up that fish and chips shop at the back.

What about Alexis->Walcott and get in Firmino? I reckon him and Coutinho are a must.

Was thinking about downgrading either Allen og Gundo for the def, but I can't see myself playing Allen every week long term.

Not sure I want to lose Sanchez for Theo. Think Sanchez is a class player and will keep bringing the points. Theo's gametime is also a concern?

What do you think about the defence? Thinking about saving 2 FTs for shipping 2 of WBA in GW 15 when their fixtures turn.

Alexis will bring the points, but at what cost? 11.7m...

Coutinho and Firmino cost 2.7m less each and have 3 pts more and 3 pts less than Alexis.

Cheers. I will consider it. Just prefer to have my players spread out a bit with the key players for each team.

I reckon the key might be Giroud/Walcott to somehow ''cover'' Alexis.

If Giroud nails his spot and Sanchez gets shifted to the flank, then I will definitely consider it more. Just don't trust Theo's points will be as stable as they have been in the beginning of the season.

If the only way for now you'd get Hazard in for a -4 is A) below, you'd stick to B for no hit, right?

              A) Haz + 4.7m (-4)
              B) Sterling + Siggy

            Wildcard please advice:
            Foster/4m gk
            Friend/Luiz/Alonso/Nyom/Van der Horn
            Coutinho/Firmino/Mane/Walcott/Gundogan
            Aguero/Costa/4.5 F

Plan to play 3-5-2. I wonder about Walcott. Should I sell him for Siggy and buy one more expensive defender? Because as we know in the winter defences are better. I prefer to play with players from the big teams because till now I lost a lot of points waiting for Deeney, Payet, Wilson, Tadic and etc to bring me something huge. Please advice.

              Currently on WC as well.

I am sticking to 3-4-3. Have to say I think two Chelsea defenders is too much, but it can work out amazing if they keep it up. I wouldn't go for 3 pool mids, as they won't score 6 goals every week. Would much rather have Sanchex/Hazard for one of them.

Still doubting Theo gametime, but I guess it is all speculation at this point. Be aware that WBA fixtures turn from GW 15, so make sure your cheap keeper (Pickford?) rotates well with Foster. How are you going to handle Costa when he gets his 5th yellow? Not saying ship him, but have a strategy.

              Is Nyom nailed?

                Hello,

Yes Nyom is nailed. I plan to play double WBA next 5 weeks (only 1 for gw15). About Pool players I don't think there is another midfield with price 9.5 or less with so big possibility to return goals. In my mini league btw most of the players have 2 pool mids so blank pool game won't be such a problem. Going to Sanchez or Hazzard will cost a lot of money. Costa will be on the bench for 1 week too because sell/buy operation will cost me 0.3 m at least. For 3-4-3 I don't see many good options for third attacker valued at 6.5 ( I've tried with Gray, Deeney and Wilson). Probably Carol but this will happen in the end of the year.

Good to hear. Actually thinking about going with 3 WBA defenders for the next 3 gw's and start shipping them in GW 15/17...

Maybe you are right about the pool mids, maybe I am being stubborn not to get two in.

In regards to 3rd striker, if you can find the extra 0,2, I think Austin will be a very good option. On form and he has excellent fixtures until GW 25.

Actually I will have more money in the end of the period. Currently I hold all the money maker players just to get additional 0.1 for each. About the third striker probably you are right but Long is coming back, Boufal is in form. In the midfield there will be a lot more options between 6 and 7.5 and if you want to get someone you have to do 2 transfers to ditch the third striker and to get this midfield.

Yeah Long can be an issue to austin's minutes. But IF Austin can keep his place, he is great value compared to Tadic (7,2), Boufal (6,8) and Redmond (6.0).

...save I guess...Deeney needs to go but he has 2 decent fixtures. Au$tin stats are immense.

              😕

Deeney is on the to go list.

Save FT with AOA and reassess next week

Sanchez still a hot topic this morning.

            Here's another angle.

No doubting Sanchez is a quality pick, no doubt at all.....but how many pts would he need to score to be a better pick than Firmino, Hazard, Coutinho or Mane....Would he need to score a goal and assist every week...or even a brace?...I'd suggest so...

Is he really worth the extra funds?

Might get in Ozil like I did last year to free the funds. But Sanchez is a good pick

Debated this too. I think I will wait a few weeks before deciding though. I want to see if Ozil's form continues and where Sanchez ends up playing now Giroud is back.

I think it depends if he gets put back on to the wing or keeps playing through the centre. If it is the latter, I think he is worth it. He gets 5 points per goal and has really settled into being a centre forward. If Giroud takes the place of lone striker though, I may have to reconsider him for KDB or a better striker.

I get what you are saying, but I doubt that both Cout, Firm and Mane will be getting a goal (and assist) each gameweek. Not gonna score 6 every week....

But that goes against the mass hysteria about doubling up on Pool mids. You need to look at them in isolation. 1 bad game and you are screwed. 1 good game and no guarantee they will all score or even more than Sanch, Haz etc. Personal choice and no right or wrong answer.

Yeah I am not saying the above is wrong. Just don't agree that Sanchex need a goal and an assist (or a brace) every gameweek to be a better pick than say Mane..

I am not saying you are wrong either :). I dont agree with that statement as well. Everyone including me just try to justify their opinions. Dropping Sanch is not one I can haha

Haha yes that is true. No me neither, can't see myself dropping Sanchez - at least unless he gets shifted to the flank with Giroud becoming a starter.

Sacrificed my defence to keep him, as I also wanted Hazard.

He's worth the extra funds not because he needs to outscore those players but when Arsenal have a nice fixture and you want a captain, he's your man that you're going to.

It's all well and good people saying Firmino and Coutinho are cheaper and matching him but when Liverpool have a good fixture you will only captain one of them, when Arsenal have a good fixture (and there's loads coming) you will captain him.

                de Gea, Pickford
                Williams Alonso Kone McAuley Holebas
                Walcott Sanchez Coutinho Firmino Allen
                Aguero Diomande Austin

Walcott to Hazard and de Gea to Butland after the break (when I know they're not injured etc.) Even if Butland doesn't start next game, Sunderland are only facing Hull anyway. I can't get Hazard unless I get Butland (or an equally priced GK).

From that point, what changes do I need to look at making in my team? If I do the above changes, I will have 0.2 ITB.

Last time I looked at the Min/KP and Min/GA ratios I went for Au$tin. That was a good call.

Don't laugh, but now I'm looking at Mata's stats. It's impressive.

                Last 2 weeks:

                KP = 9
                Min/KP = 17.11
                GA= 8
                min/GA = 19.25
                touches in box = 12

                versus...min/KP

                Payet 18, Coutinho 19.56, Ozil 22.50

                Keeping tabs on him.

I agree that it looks impressive. My biggest concern is that he won't be playing every week, as Mourinho isn't settled on a line up yet.

He could be a really exciting differential if he keeps his place in the squad. From GW 16 could be the time to own him.

From GW14 to around GW28 you could play Austin every week.

That's going to save you a lot of money for other areas.

Getting in Austin now on WC and will happily play him in 12 and 13 as well against Pool and Everton. both are at home and not very solid defences.

                Current front 8:

                Sanchez, KDB, Firm, Cout, Capoue
                Aguero, Austin, Rashford

Is the following worth an -8pt hit:

                Sanchez > Walcott
                Capoue > Hazard
Rashford > Anichebe (enabler and I will play with 2x strikers every week)
