Nothing can be taken for granted this season.

Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet, Sergio Aguero’s ability to fluctuate from a frustrating liability to an essential goal machine and the Liverpool midfield: blessed with brilliance and then cruelly cursed by misfortune.

It was Manchester City who provided the early rise and fall on today’s rollercoaster, first reassuring some with Aguero’s presence on the teamsheet, while disappointing owners of Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones and Ilkay Gundogan.

Then Aguero took over.

Like Harry Kane in Gameweek 12, he transformed the most ordinary team performance into a personal haul that revived his stock and forced an immediate re-assessment of plans.

Strategies were re-written with Aguero’s brace, only to be torn up by the events that were to follow at Anfield.

We had such expectations of Jurgen Klopp’s attacking three against Sunderland but, when the whistle blew on Merseyside, we were left mainly with blanks, and the scars of Roberto Firmino hobbling off and Phillipe Coutinho stretchered from the field.

Following minor concerns for the Brazilian and Chelsea’s Eden Hazard over the international break, this latest setback appears far more significant.

We should perhaps wait on a scan and the full prognosis but, already the reaction to Coutinho’s agony has been marked: he tops the Fantasy Premier League “transfers out” column and will surely continue to shed owners before we know the true extent of the damage.

A possible tragedy in Liverpool’s superb season, for some Fantasy managers, the loss of Coutinho will be a game changer that opens up a new and all too convenient strategy.

Gylfi Sigurdsson’s relentless form that continued today in a dramatic 5-4 Swansea City victory lifts the Icelander to the forefront of our transfer thinking.

Along with Chelsea’s Pedro, he will surely vie to replace a potentially stricken Coutinho and, in doing so, free up funds to investigate Diego Costa, or more likely, the Harry Kane option in attack.

Those previously considering an exit for Aguero, myself included, may now be presented with an alternative route.

The 33% owned Romelu Lukaku could now be sacrificed with funds liberated from Coutinho’s sale providing a means to acquire Kane.

Aguero, thanks to his goals and a cruel twist of fate at Anfield, could now be locked in once again.

The City striker, along with the unfortunate Coutinho, were part of a turbulent day that offered a stark reminder to all of just how quickly fortunes can shift.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not convinced by Kane yet. It's going ok while the ref keeps giving him a 12 yard shot at goal, but that's not sustainable. Costa and maybe even Ibra look more on form in the same price bracket. But it could be down to match fitness.

Kane hasn't exactly had the easiest of comebacks - 3 London derbies in a row, 2 of them away. 3 goals out of that, even if 2 are penalties is a decent return. Swansea at home looks a prime indictor of how he's doing. Potentially the best captain pick of the weekend.

This season is relentless.....still seems little chance of anything settling down.....just when we think mids are the place to be, and before you have an opportunity to get hit how you want, the fwds start firing and you have to switch resources (transfers & cash) to that. And then it will flip again.

One thing is constant - defs are currently worth feeek all - only have two on my watchlist 😆

Some truth in that. This season Mahrez and Payet for example haven't fired. But we know the class is there among the lower placed teams. If any hit a run of form we all have to switch again. Makes for a more interesting game for sure.

Costa isnt explosive enough...Kane has it plus fixtures too...Zlatan has none

That's because there's only 1 winner. Costa has been essential for a while, steady stream of points, nailed on and no Europe. A 1 match ban at some point won't make any difference, he's also the cheapest of the 3

Although Lukaku could go into reverse if he scores today

Yeah, i'm not convinced by the rush to get rid of Lukaku... He's the focal point of an attacking Koeman team, and on pens ( and has even scored a FK this year!) his form is admittedly bad, but he won't get rested over christmas & will surely bag another 10-15 goals in his next 20 games... Good value at 9.0 for alot of folks too!

A brace apiece from Ibra, Austin, Wally & Arnie too much to ask for as an early Xmas present 😉

Can Coutinho drop even though he is flagged? Does it just reset it to zero when they are flagged? Thanks

They fall slower...But with how panicky the players are and snoddy+siggy showing it looks a 0.2mn fall atleast till Friday

No it resets to zero if he goes from red (ruled out of next game) to no flag.

In all seriousness he wouldnt even be in bench forget playing and scoring..He isnt that essential now with Ramsey and Giroud taking spots alongwith Ozil and Sanchez in front 4

Hard to know yet but can't see Giroud starting the majority of games and Ramsey isn't playing very well to be honest.

Looked so good after gw 11 when I got down to a rank of 83k, finally felt the season was going somewhere. 2 gameweeks later I'm at 245k and it starting to look like last season again. FPL isnt as fun as it used to be.

Last season was much more tough..Have similar rank to you this season but last time I was in millions due to minnows over performing..But agreed FPL doenst give experts much edge anymore as all top 20 teams have heavy finances to defeat anyone..So results are more random and luck taking big part of success cuz of it..I only play for fun now...At best can finish only top10k from now on as I am not lucky types

Plenty of time left as we're only a third of the way through the season. I'm around 150k and not worried at all. Was the same last season and ended up in the top 500 just by being patient and using the chips in the DGW's.
