Roberto Firmino has returned to training and is expected to be fit for Liverpool’s trip to Bournemouth. Toby Alderweireld is also back training ahead of Spurs’ clash with Swansea, while West Ham are without both first-choice wing-backs for the visit of Arsenal.

Philippe Coutinho is ruled out of Liverpool’s clash with Bournemouth due to an ankle injury. Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana are back in full training, though Daniel Sturridge is ruled out. Discussing Firmino’s fitness, Jurgen Klopp was optimistic on his availability for Sunday:

“Roberto trained yesterday, too. That’s important. There’s still a little bit of pain – it’s painful but not that serious. When you can deal with the pain, then everything is fine. He is quite a tough guy, so he came through the session yesterday. Again, we have to see how he reacts and that’s it.”

Kasper Schmeichel remains ruled out for Leicester’s clash with Sunderland, with Claudio Ranieri optimistic the Dane could be back “before Christmas Day”. Danny Drinkwater serves the second of a two-match ban, though Nampalys Mendy and Ben Chilwell are back in contention.

Tom Heaton remains “touch and go” for Burnley’s match at Stoke – the keeper requires a late assessment on a calf problem. Sean Dyche is hopeful on Dean Marney’s chances of recovering, though Johann Berg Gudmundsson has been ruled out with a hamstring complaint.

Danny Rose returns from a one-match ban as Spurs welcome Swansea to White Hart Lane. Toby Alderweireld is back in training and is “very close” to being available, Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed. Erik Lamela and Ben Davies remain out through injury.

Palace’s Steve Mandanda will undergo knee surgery and is expected to be sidelined for six weeks, while Connor Wickham is out for the season with knee ligament damage. Yohan Cabaye serves a one-match ban after toppling off the Suspension Tightrope.

Dusan Tadic and Matt Targett remain sidelined for Southampton’s trip to Palace. Discussing Tadic, manager Claude Puel has conceded “I don’t know when he’ll return”, with the midfielder still struggling due to a broken nose.

Ryan Mason is expected to recover from illness for Hull’s trip to Middlesbrough. Abel Hernandez and Shaun Maloney have stepped up their recoveries from injury but remain doubtful and will be assessed. Dieumerci Mbokani starts the first of a three-match ban.

Miguel Britos and Valon Behrami serve one-match bans for Watford’s trip to West Brom. Walter Mazzarri will make a late decision on the fitness of Younes Kaboul and Isaac Success.

Arsenal have confirmed that Santi Cazorla will be sidelined for around three months, with the midfielder set to undergo ankle surgery. Olivier Giroud remains doubtful due to a minor groin problem, while Mathieu Debuchy has been ruled out with the hamstring injury that forced him off against Bournemouth last weekend. Mohamed Elneny remains a slight doubt due to illness.

Michail Antonio and Aaron Cresswell have also been ruled out of tomorrow evening’s encounter after both limped out of the midweek cup defeat to Man United with groin problems.

Ryan Shawcross remains a doubt for Stoke’s clash with Burnley due to the calf problem that caused him to miss last Sunday’s win at Watford. Joe Allen returns from a one-match suspension, while Glenn Whelan is expected to overcome a calf problem. Geoff Cameron and Phil Bardsley remain out due to ongoing knee injuries. Jack Butland will step up his recovery from an ankle problem by turning out for the club’s Under 23 side this evening.

Salomon Rondon is expected to be fit for West Brom’s clash with Watford, despite being sent home from training yesterday due to tonsillitis.

Artur Boruc remains a doubt for Bournemouth’s home clash with Liverpool, Eddie Howe confirmed earlier this morning. Andrew Surman is ruled out with a hamstring complaint, while the Cherries will “make a late call” on Charlie Daniels’ hip problem.

It's just the same as I wrote on your captaincy article a couple of weeks ago. I don't think combining fixture, form and odds in some arbitrary way does anything. If you tried to model clean sheets from these 3 things, odds would be the only significant variable

For example you make Man U more likely to get a clean sheet than Spurs. Best odds on Spurs is 2.15, Man U 2.88 meaning you should probably be betting Man U with your method

I might do that - Swansea scored 5 last week (admittedly against Palace, but hey) and I could see Spurs getting sloppy after getting a couple up.

And Everton are poor at the moment. I don't mind those odds at all actually.

The problem with using odds is that they don't reflect the probability of an event occurring - because they factor in the risk that the bookie could incur. They also inflate certain odds to encourage punters to take them on; so I wouldn't use odds as a sole source of information if you ripped my arms off and beat me with them because I didn't.

I won't attempt to explain the exact mechanics as I'm not sure I can without taking screenshots of my data or emailing my spreadsheet, etc. but each week I update my spreadsheet and the factors I take into account:

              - Team stats from each game (goals for/against, big chances for/against, shots in box for/against)
              - Quality of opponent against whom stats were achieved
              - Whether the game was home or away
              - Defence is measured in context of opponent attack (and vice versa)
              - If a team is at home I look at their last 4 home games and last 2 away games. The reverse is true for teams playing away

It spits out values and I feed these back into next week's calculations. This gives me rolling values for each team's defence (home/away) and attack (home/away) which in theory I can use to determine clean sheet/attacking prospects.

I'm enjoying the process of trying to refine it, I'm having moderate success so far (put a bet on Swansea-Crystal Palace BTTS last week as their defensive prospects were both awful!) but I'm placing no real reliance on it 🙂

Where does it claim to beat the bookies - I can't see that claim. Also FYI the bookies can be beaten.

His list is supposed to reflect the chance of a clean sheet. And he thinks he will get closer than the bookies by throwing in "form" and "fixures", as if the bookies haven't thought of this.

You're ducking the question - your answer is all about inference. Where does the article claim to actually BEAT the bookies ? He is trying to develop a system to predict the best chances of keeping a clean sheet . You think bookies odds are God ? Initially they are only the opinion of an odds compiler until those prices have been traded out. Secondly how do people make money at football betting ? By getting value out of bookies prices by backing events at odds greater than they should be ( ignore the everybody always loses nonsense). This system whilst in its early stages may be onto something by taking that angle so don't knock it.

I am fully aware that some people are making money on football betting. I know some of them. From what I've learned, an arithmetic mean of say "form, fixtures, opponent" could never compete with the average odds offered by the marked. It's WAY to crude..

Why not camera have you tried this vs the bookies? It's easy to criticise people's hard work. you actually sound quite bitter mate. I like the article and if you read them they've been pretty good over the past few weeks........'Here is another example on this site of someone claiming that their own COMPLETELY ARBITRARY algorithm beats the bookies' .....shut up you melt

It's easy to ask people to shut up instead of dealing with their argument.

You want me to deal with an argument (if you call it that) where you just say the bookies would have analysed this already, there's no chance, why is this a hot topic, Here is another example on this site of someone claiming that their own COMPLETELY ARBITRARY algorithm beats the bookies....... like a said before you sound bitter and don't appreciate the time people put into creating the comparisons. Debating the topic is fine but your ruling everything out when you have absolutely nothing to back up your opinion - extremely narrow minded. Your comments seem rude but if you'd like please come up with something that will be beneficial for everyone. MELT

This list has absolutely nothing to do with 'beating the bookies'. Nor does the captaincy article try and 'beat the bookies'. Both this clean sheet list and the captaincy article are both tools to try and help FPL managers in picking their defensive options and choosing their captains respectively. If you don't like the methods, then simply ignore them. Or alternatively, spend some time and come up with your own method

Hi, you are right, I admit that my comments weren't very constructive. And I DID come across as rude, that was not my intention. Apologies!

In my view, one improvement here could be to replace "form" with some key statistics like "shots conceded per game" or "xG against" which lie closer to the true defensive performances of a team.

Form (e.g. number of goals conceded) is semi-arbitrary because of the element of luck involved, and has been shown to be a weaker predictor than these key stats.

Like the captaincy article, this clean sheet list takes the same into account with regards too big chances conceded and shots in the box into the form and fixture calculations. It may just say form and fixture but the stats are behind the words.

Some of us have tried and tested systems for betting purposes to keep one step ahead of the bookies but which also are transient. The bookies are not some kind of Nirvana.

Every week we have something that everybody write/ask about or a player who is "essential" or who needs to go. Almost every week templete team changes more or less even a lot during 2-3 weeks time.
We had Ibra floop, Aguero doubt, Sanchez panic, doubble Liv essential, now it's Kane time.

Can you name every GW since GW1?

For me, anyone who can get a Lot of Points for span of 5 GW's is Essential
      Kane fits that Criteria currently

Alonso for me, I've benched Janmaat due to Watford last perf, defensive injuries and West Brom form. Not sure if that's logical given Chelsea are playing City away but Alonso is such an attacking threat !

Morning all, the next GW is just around the corner so im seeking your views here if you should be so kind.....

    Heaton (Robo)

    Alonso, Pieters, Kone (Janmaat, Amat)

    Hazard, Firmino, Siggy, Walcott (Capoue)

    Kane (C), Costa, Austin

Have 4.0 itb so flexibility to make a move if necessary....if Firmino was out I considered switching him to Sanchez but seems like he will play. Leaving the team and money itb means one less move to get Aguero back as required (probably Hull)

    Hazard Firmino Walcott Siggy (Capoue)
