And so the power shifts once again.

I can barely remember witnessing such upheaval: where we’ve had to re-consider where our big-money is spent and switch our sights, not only due to form, but simply availability.

We started the season coveting Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Then Diego Costa emerged, followed swiftly by Eden Hazard as Chelsea blossomed. Now Harry Kane, with seven goals in five, becomes a priority.

While these players battle for recognition in our squads, Sergio Aguero was considered by most as a mainstay: a factor that required little consideration.

That theory wavered back in Gameweek 3 but today’s events may have changed it for good.

Aguero had not served a suspension until this season. Now he is set to miss at least seven weeks of this campaign before the turn of the year. Few, if any, could have anticipated that.

Hours after the bombshell at the Etihad, Alexis Sanchez then provided his own explosion.

We always knew the dangers: deployed up front by Arsene Wenger, he has always been part of the heavy-hitter debate.

But, with heads turned by Chelsea’s faultless form and the promise from Eden Hazard, some, including this Fantasy manager, chose to lose Sanchez’ special talent, keeping Aguero locked into our attacks.

Now, with the City striker being ejected from squads throughout the land, the sacrifices required to gain the likes of Hazard, Costa and Marcos Alonso – all so alluring with Chelsea’s form and fixtures – no longer apply.

When I showed Sanchez the exit ahead of Gameweek 12, opting to sell Aguero was something I pondered, but quickly dismissed.

Today’s events punished that particular decision. They also force us re-examine the established thinking.

We are so set on Aguero. His place is so cemented in Fantasy Football folkore, the prospect of progressing through a season, or even a period of Gameweeks without him almost seems unthinkable.

But while a saintly Costa is scoring goals and avoiding the booking that will see him serve a one-match ban, we’ve seen Aguero inexplicably become an unreliable hothead.

We can’t begin to fathom how those roles have been reversed. We can only react to what we’ve now been dealt.

While those without Sanchez are denied the convenience of carrying out a like-for-like swap for Aguero, even with the cost of an additional transfer, it will likely prove a popular route.

Acquiring Sanchez no longer comes packaged with such sacrifice now that Aguero is out of the equation, his millions available to us.

In Gameweek 4 we formed plans to sell a suspended Aguero and bring him back two weeks later. This time around the landscape may have changed.

As of today, it seems likely that few will be forgoing Sanchez for Aguero should that decision ever arise again.

Although it’s almost folly to make such predictions in a season that refuses to allow us to settle in our thinking.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Hazard Firmino Walcott Siggy (Capoue)
    Austin Aguero Lukaku

Aguero, Lukaku -> Kane, Costa for -4?

can i sell you on someone else? Rather have a protagonist on lesser team than have a supporting character on a top squad.

      Consider - Matt Phillips

Not really a threat to his role...even when Phillips was in average form he was starting. It actually looks like there is no place in the side for Chadli atm. He is going to have to wait for a poor game from his teammates to get his spot back.

This Sanchez explosion reminds me of Hazard against Everton. Everybody rushing to get him. Truth is they have a stoke bus up next and then two away games including city. If I'd have had the patience to wait on bringing in haz for Sanchez after his monster haul I dread to think how much better off of be. It wasn't so long ago that the consensus on Sanchez was 'explosive but patchy'. Just saying.

I'm delighted I decided to shift Lukaku to free up the funds for Hazard, rather than take the simple Sánchez downgrade that most people took after GW12. That being said, I was hiding behind the sofa when Lukaku faced Swansea.

That's cause the consensus was wrong. Sanchez is playing well every game, he is on a level above the entire Arsenal team. Hazard only exploded because Chelsea have been the best team in the league recently. Sanchez is performing so well even in an Arsenal team that has been underperforming since Cazorla's injury.

This happens every week, people making mental rage transfers to chase last week's points. Hopefully a lot of people are looking at Gundogan and Allen wondering what they were thinking.

Haha it is hard, seeing everyone jump on a bandwagon and knowing you'll only be vindicated if your option outscores him...wouldn't like to be going without Sanchez, Kane and Costa in the immediate future hah.

The Allen transfer wasn't stupid. They didn't know Whelan would get injured and Allen would go on a yellow card spree.

Gundogan, I completely agree, people knee jerked for stupid reasons. Allen, is complete nonsense. I watched him for ages for club and country this season and he's worth well more than even his current price. When he starts in the hole he's absolute gold, best player in that team.

Removing Sanchez in GW12 for Hazard was a very straightforward and solid decision with the information at the time. Even in hindsight you can't look back and point out flaws that made it any kind of bad move. It's just a shame the way things unfolded. Hazard is still playing very well, if only we could have kept Sanchez and found another way for Haz in.

i would free up a little more money in defence. Will be difficult to free the cash later.

      Friend/Dawson>Amat/Jevans
Also, Did you have Capoue before WC? perhaps Phillips > De Roon or Capoue?

      1. Rover

That's a good idea. My only question is Amat nailed on for starting XI. I'm scared after leaking 9 in 2 games Bob Bradley's going to play around with his defense. Maybe I should wait for the weekend presser and decide which one. Ake would have been a nice option but Daniels is pretty much back now. Oh and I should have clarified, I have Hull Dawson not WBA Dawson 🙂

I had Capoue at the start of the season. Glad to say I sold him at his peak price. I actually chose Phillips because he rotates well with Anichebe. Never thought I'd say that!

But yeah, I'm going to oo back and find ways to free cash... Thanks =D

doesnt matter if Amat is nailed or not. Might even select a 3.9 bench fodder. I think having a strong bench (def particularily) over xmas is overrated this year! Seems to be an extra day of recovery between boxing day and nyd. I cannot recall ever having to resort to my 5th defender. besides if you have to and an injury arises in defence can you play AoA chip?

I might also sway you from cornering yourself into a 3.5.2 rotation. it i a recipe for point on the bench. Select De Roon and upgrade Anichebe to Iheanacherino/Austin/Carrol

You're right about the extra recovery day. That's great news! Actually, I've never resorted to my 5th defender either (apart from bench boost which I'm not playing anytime soon) and I do have AoA still intact. I'm going to do just that. Bench fodder 5th defender. Cheap 5th mid. And thanks for suggesting Carroll. He looks so tempting now with the goal and fixtures after next week...

I'm thinking the same thing. See below. I think we have to accept that if we can go with either Firm or Hazard. Have to make a decision. If Firm blanks today I might jump the ship.

Currently playing 3-5-2, should I do:

    A) Walcott > Eriksen
    B) Walcott & Anichebe > Phillips & 8.4 or under striker (already have Austin)
    C) Walcott to any other 9.4 or under mid
    D) Hold Walcott for one more week

Current midfield is Sanchez, Siggy, Hazard, Firmino, Walcott

Fellow Walcott owners...surely he needs to go soon? Was ok against Bournemouth but form has definitely dropped off and due to the form of the Ox as well as the gaffers love affair with shoehorning Aaron Ramsey in to the side he will likely be rotated during the festive schedule. Gw16/17 fixtures are tough then pick up again when he is likely to be rotated..

          Ok makes more sense.. haha.

Well tbh I think you are ripping the team up a bit much for Sanchez this week..I would be tempted to just go Kun to Costa and captain one of the Chelsea boys. Then target Sanchez for GW18 after the two tough away fixtures.

          1. THE Wild Rover
            • 15 Years
            9 years, 8 months ago

Could cost me nearly £1m more to do it then, but I guess it makes sense. If Lallana is back and tears it up today I'll probably do it though 😉

            1. Nabs Kebabs
              • 14 Years
              9 years, 8 months ago

Sanchez will go probably up to around 11.9m by then ...doubt it would be 1m more epensive though. In the unlikely event that Lallana starts and tears it up it looks more viable but yeah, looks unlikely.

I did a similar thing with Haz btw..when everyone was buying him I passed for 3 weeks..lost around 0.4m but meant I kept Sanchez and got Eriksen this week for his 18 points. Haz blanked 2/3. Now I have gone ahead and bought Haz for the fixture shift.

Agreed! Firmino is probably going to outscore Lallana when he's fit and Wally while not of Sanchez pedigree is not a bad choice himself. Maybe just Costa in now and wait for the other two. Coutinho injured last week, Aguero suspended this week, who knows what can happen next week?

I say B. Interestingly although Anichebe has blanked for two weeks now, his Threat rating is higher than Defoe's for both matches. I'm not sure if the underlying stats support this.
