With a break in our open to all Fantasy Premier League cup competition during the midweek fixtures, we spend some time this evening to see who has made it through to fifth round, which takes place during Gameweek 17 this coming weekend.

A reminder that, for this latest contest, there are more than £1,000 worth of prizes for UK based entrants courtesy of our partner FanDuel, as well as £350 in Amazon vouchers to the top three managers at the end of the competition.

In addition the highest scoring manager each round wins a £30 FanDuel credit, with community regular Moin earning this prize after his 65 point Gameweek 15 haul. He next faces msq22 in round five.

The next four highest scoring managers in round four win a £10 FanDuel credit. These will be handed out to Pinky Unites, who scored 63, DJDave1979, who scored 61 along with twobitgooner, and BC1, Bashvilla, Hagop, who all hit the 60 point mark.

The highest placed manager left in the competition is 216 ranked Bacuna Matata, who along with Pink Unites, won a £30 FanDuel voucher for the top highest score back in the third round.

The unfortunate manager to face this early frontrunner to win the competition is lowlifegimpe, who is ranked 337,555.

In a closely fought contest, our only remaining Fantasy Football Scout staff representative, TorresMagic, has made it through to round five, after squeezing past Zambhino10 by just a single point.

The moderator has another tough encounter in store when he takes on Smooth Rossi, who at 6,687 in the overall rankings is more than 7,000 places above him.

Other eye catching ties taking place in round five include Funkyav’s clash with Big Phil Soccer Team and Cobberlsnz taking on Bash Villa, who incidentally sent me packing back in the first round.

The fourth round results can be found via this link, while the full fifth round draw can be found here.

Good luck to those still involved and if you would like more information on the schedule and prizes click this link.

So you'd only sell the player because his price was about to fall? What are we playing here? The Stock Market?

If I had decided to get rid, I would do it before the drop to prevent loss in value. Would still sell him if he dropped, but could have waited a few days. In this case I believe he is selling Firmino because he has been terrible when stationed out wide.

Would have already lost out so might as well give him one last chance. Thats my thinking, understand where you are coming from.

      sanchez not rising, very fishy

      1. fedolefan
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 4 months ago

What's fishy is why Sanchez is nearly 11.8m from 11.0m with 35% ownership whereas Aguero hardly made it more than 13.2m despite 46% ownership. It should be harder for really expensive players to go up in price, but Sanchez was going up on a daily basis with just enough transfers to trigger a price rise. Just priced non-owners out of the game.

Spacing of scoring and Aguero time off have been the big issues.

            • 11 Years

I understand the overall argument, but I just don't see how Sanchez triple rose after his 23 pointer with those 380K transfers in but Aguero never rose or rose 0.1m max after his 400K transfers in post his Swansea haul. The threshold for a price increase of the most expensive midfielder has been a major flaw.

Aguero dropped to 12.9 before GW6 so that's where the 400K mean very little.

Aguero had a huge ownership percentage to start with. Sanchez had very low ownership percentage to start with.

      Probably Siggy.
Siggy to score anytime at odds 3.25, while Phillips is 3.85. Although a WBA CS is 2.62 and given Phillips higher chance of assists + the potential extra point for a CS, I would bench Siggy.

Honest question, do they factor in assist-potential as well? Or just scoring potential? I'd like to see a spreadsheet from someone next season that examines how frequently the bookies were right.

            • 13 Years

No those odds are without assists. Allen could also get an extra point if Stoke keep a cleanie.

But then again Cedric also has a chance of attacking returns, which isn't factored in his CS odds, although admittedly a smaller chance than Allen.

That a fairly ballsy defence youve got there !!!!! Since its in your best interest for Siggy to blank then id probably play Allen, not really a fan though tbh.
WBA fixtures are cack, you looking to ship soon yeah ?

haha yep 🙂 got them in on GW 12 WC, so they brought me a triple cleanie and a few goals + baps in the last 3.
Yeah I am shipping at least Nyom after this gameweek. But I like their fixtures from gw 20-27 (%21) and they have been looking solid at the back, although they always seem to concede that one late goal..

I am really considering playing Allen ahead of Siggy, but would still be pitting Allen against Cedric :/

        Thanks !

Ha yeah its a high risk/high reward strategy but fixtures are turning nasty. I didnt cop the Allen/Cedric conundrum either, in which case id prob play Siggy since he's on fire..

Yeah it really is and unfortunately hasn't worked out quite as well as I would have liked 😉 But 4,5 points per game in average over the 4 weeks is okay given their prices. But will be benching them for most of the next 3 GWs.

            Appreciated your response, thanks...

Talking with a casual player in my ML today (i;m ahead), who mentioned he wants to save his Wildcard for later in the year. I pointed the rules out to him about using the first by GW19. He was very grateful for the tip and I felt good as well (Xmas spirit and all that :-).

DO you ever find yourself lending a hand to ML rivals in situations like these? I wouldn't tip my hand as to player picks, but things like WC rules, blanks, double game weeks, etc, I have no problem sharing. The competition is in the picks, not the rules.

Yeah, i never suggest players to get to rivals, more just talk in general terms. Tought not to get excited when someone asks for advice thought, makes me feel important 🙂

Some mind games around player picks can be fun especially if you're leading. I'll occasionally give away my transfers early or discourage/introduce doubt over certain moves that others in my ML say they're considering. More for my own amusement than to really gain an advantage

Absolutely. I help as much as I can. Others don't take it as seriously and the ML isn't really that competitive as a result so it's best to share what you know in the spirit of keeping the ML interesting

I often scratch my head and think "How do you expect to win a game when you don't have a good grasp of the rules?" but that's the way of the casual player. Each to their own

There's a bit of money involved but the points gap is already sizeable and the TV gap is ridiculous. I'm at 105.8 and the next highest in my ML is around 103 while most are between 99 and 101. Since it's only really me playing to optimise TV, that should be a big advantage in the second half of the season

I was explaining the other day some of the possible tactics to employ around double gameweeks but at the end of the day they have to execute those tactics and some of them are still picking defensive midfield players so that tells you everything really

      I agree.

Stuff like rules, blank weeks, DGWs, AFCON players I always share to the lesser informed members of my ML.

Player picks and this stuff I don't.

To me the difference is between beating them by getting in the right players versus beating them because they fail to understand the basic mechanics of the game.

Good to see other people not being a brunt to their ML competitors 🙂

    Walker Cedric Alonso (Amat Nyom)
    Sanchez Firmino Siggy Allen
    Costa Kane (c) Iheanacho

2.7 ITB 1 FT. Think I'm sticking to Firmino/Nacho and upgrading Allen

    A. Allen > Antonio
    B. Allen > Son
    C. Save and observe Firmino and Nacho for next game week.

In a similar situation myself. Your team is quite solid as is, think i would keep my FT and have more room for manoevre next GW.

Yup. That's exactly my line of thinking. My ML is tight right now so hits really could come back to bite me (like getting in Nacho on the weekend). So figured I'll see what happens with him and Firmino especially this midweek then use two frees to solve any issues...

Same, im normally quite conservative but gone hit crazty the past few weeks chasing the latest trend and just got de-throned in my ML so need to chill out and give it time.
Got Nacho last week myself as a 4 week punt so have to stick for now, Firmino is on his last chance against MID.

Wouldn't even call Amat a 100% procent nailed, but pretty sure to play most GWs.

Ah good point about AFCON. I didn't think about that.

FWIW I'm holding McAuley through these tough fixtures and will just bench him as needed

I would definitely hold McAuley as well. Fixtures 20 + 22-27 are pretty good. Even if you have to play him in one or two of the tough fixtures, he isn't the worst defender to play. In the tough games when Pulis to get most goals from set pieces, he could even deliver. And they ALMOST got a cleanie against Chelsea. Again conceding a late goal, damnit. Tripled up myself 🙂

Roll the FT or use on a DEF change? 2.7ITB (would like to keep some spare for an Allen upgrade in MID the following GW).
Current DEF: Koscielny Cedric Evans Holebas Evans

    A. Koscielny > Alonso
    B. Cedric > Rose
    C. Hold FT

    Foster
    Vertonghen Cedric Friend
    Sanchez Hazard Firmino Zaha
    Kane Costa Iheanacho

    Pickford Capoue Holebas Wilson

Do I go Firmino ➡️ Payet now or do that this weekend along with Iheanacho ➡️ Anichebe? This would set me up to fix my defense and get a stronger 4th/5th mid to play 3-5-2.
