Last Gameweek’s poll leader Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6) rewarded the 25% who handed him the captaincy with a goal and two assists in Manchester United’s 3-1 home victory against Sunderland.

Those 15 Fantasy Premier League points, his highest Gameweek tally of the season, are likely to ensure that the 41.6% owned forward once again emerges as a firm favourite in our latest poll.

However, Saturday’s Old Trafford visitors, Middlesbrough, may not concede as much ground to United and Ibrahimovic as an obliging Sunderland; Aitor Karanka’s side have only shipped ten goals in nine away matches.

For those eyeing up a Red Devils’ captaincy differential Henrikh Mkhitaryan (8.9) could be an enticing option.

The 1.9% owned Armenian’s stunning backheel goal against Sunderland should be enough to convince Jose Mourinho that he is deserving of a start on New Year’s Eve.

Paul Pogba (8.3) is another left-field captaincy prospect in the United ranks, with the 9.7% owned Frenchman earning a third assist of the campaign on Boxing Day.

Eden Hazard (10.4) also impressed in Monday’s matches, deployed in a false nine role for Chelsea in the absence of the suspended Diego Costa (10.7).

The Belgian’s penalty and two bonus points earned him a fifth double-digit FPL haul of the season to keep his points simmering. Backed by 8% of FPL managers with the captaincy ahead of the Boxing Day fixture, he is again set to factor at the top of our poll.

Costa’s return is likely to earn the Spanish striker immediate support, too, as he looks to add to his 13-goal tally.

The Potters will arrive at the Bridge having kept three clean sheets in their last six, allowing just six goals. However, they will have faced Liverpool in this afternoon’s encounter, giving them just three days recovering before the test against the runaway league leaders.

Another returning Golden Boot contender, Sergio Aguero (12.8), could also garner votes.

Still owned by 17.6% of FPL managers, the Manchester City striker faces a tough return match as he makes the trip to Anfield following a four-match ban.

The Reds have shipped just six goals and conceded the fewest shots in the box of any side in home matches over their seven Anfield outings.

However, it is worth noting that the Argentine is something of an away specialist, having already accrued four double-digit FPL hauls on his travels.

Arsenal face their second Emirates meeting in a week as they follow up their narrow 1-0 Boxing Day victory over West Brom by hosting Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Alexis Sanchez (11.9) failed to score against the Baggies but the 37.2% owned Chilean remains the Gunners chief attacking threat, having registered more shots than any other Premier League player over Monday’s matches.

Crystal Palace have failed to keep a clean sheet on the road so far, but with Sam Allardyce installed as manager, that will likely turn up in North London equipped to put up a stubborn rearguard effort.

Derailed by a “minor” calf injury, Theo Walcott (7.9) may make a return to the Gunners’ starting line-up as he seeks to extend a record of six goals at the Emirates over eight starts.

Spurs have a favourable away fixture against Watford, but interest in Harry Kane (11.1) is likely to be minimal unless he can impress at Southampton on Wednesday.

His failure to score at home against Burnley and Hull in the previous two Gameweeks may well have caused terminal damage to the striker’s long-term captaincy prospects.

His 14.8% team-mate Christian Eriksen (8.6), who has three assists and a goal on the road, may just fare better in our latest poll.

Romelu Lukaku (9.4) is undoubtedly among the top differential captaincy options on offer. Although found in 26.6% of squads, confidence in the Everton striker took a serious dent following a run of two goals in seven Gameweek appearances.

However, Lukaku notched twice against Watford in Gameweek 15 and followed that up with a fine solo effort at Leicester City on Boxing Day.

He faces another fragile backline when he travels to Hull on Friday evening. Only Swansea City have conceded more goals in front of their home fans than the Tigers tally of 18.

Away from home, Bournemouth have one of the worst records, conceding 19 goals on their nine trips.

The Cherries next travel to the aforementioned Swansea City, though interest in their playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.5) may be muted.

Bob Bradley’s troops appear to be in freefall after conceding 10 goals in their last three matches, a period in which has seen the 9.9% owned Icelander fail to produce attacking returns.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll prior to Friday’s Gameweek 19 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

he must be your 5 th defender and a enabler for your team
if you can afford to just not use him keep

otherwise a little upgrade in Ake or Friend (if nailed)/ chambers would be well worth for sure

his hearing is on 31 jan I think
with coutinho back he looks a good option again

but if you want to replace him then

        coutinho (when he comes back)
mkhitaryan ( great option after this congesting fixtures and could also be for now)
pogba (nailed and looking lively )
        Wally
        maybe a punt on sterling

in that case he will not miss any games?
however form is not on his side with all the blanks so will probably switch him out soon..

A disgrace for the football and people killed by drunkdrivers if Firmino get to start the next weeks after drunkdriving, nobody think it's serious for a sportsman to mess up like that?

      Aguero or Costa?

        • 9 Years
        9 years, 6 months ago

well everyone is analysing this situation
Costa has been non stop this season
        aguero is aguero

        difficult
the thing with getting aguero atm is after playing against pool he could easily get rotated for burnley which is a great fixture for points
I am trying to go either 3 heavy hitters up front or

if Costa Ibra keep getting points there is no need for kun

I keep getting captain decisions wrong almost every week. This week I did sanchez (ibra vice).
Before that chose Kane (costa vice), Kane (eriksen vice).
Having trouble again this week trying to decide between costa/hazard/ibra/sanchez.

I'm thinking should i pick one player & just leave the armband on them. There's 2 dead teams in my ML who have the armband on Costa who i can't catch up, & a dead team with ibra captain has just over taken me!
By switching captains every week I'm missing out on points most weeks!

      1. Phil Dagger ⭐
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 6 months ago

its a very good strategy as you will not miss any hauls of that player but have to endure some blanks too

the ideal thing is the ability to switch to a good captain to maximise points
but if you are not getting it right I guess just put it on that player for the time being

poll votes are good indicator and will be good for more often than not
so why did you switched to Sanchez from ibra but that is in past

and try your luck in this strategy now if you are getting it wrong more often

kun is better but haz will always be up there in points
        so both will be great
but if picking one its kun everyday as you will be captaining him most weeks

Dagger: Transfer Holebas > Ake on a FT?

      1. Phil Dagger ⭐
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 6 months ago

        holebas pros
        on set pieces
very attacking has a goal in him
cheap if you bought him at 4.5 4.6
        high points ceiling

        cons
        yellow card magnet
        watord defence leaky
could easily get -1 and next game 9
        a little frustrating to own

so considering this do what you feel
if you are frustrated to own him
        then yes otherwise save

haha Amat is just a enabler mate
don't rely on him for points

holgate a great option if nailed for sure at that price
or maybe a little upgrade to ake/friend/chambers

I have a confession to make. I have not being paying my team much attention over the past few weeks and certainly don't know who's bandwagoning and who's not.

So with that in mind, any suggestions:

    Heaton - Foster
    Vertonghen - McAuley - Evans - Kone - Amat
    Sanchez - Hazard - Eriksen - Allen - Capoue
    Ibra - Costa - Defoe

    2 x FTs, 0.3m ITB

    Please and thank you......

also would keep Allen if u got him early (like 4.8-4.9)...and upgrade capoue > phillips/chadli instead....Allen better option to come off the bench and to even start some GWs (Watford (h), sunderland (a), namely)

I think 3 baggies in defence are too much
only brunt is enough I think

maybe something in the ideas of this over the upcoming weeks depending on your priorities

      foster to Pickford
      vert to brunt
      Evans to jones/a boro defender
      kone to ake
      Allen to Phillips

      Many thanks all, very useful.

Yeah 3 x WBA defs was only meant to be for one week about two months ago. Evans needs/will go soon and then I can get Philips.....

Think I'll do Kone > Ake this week and then Evans > Friend (or equivalent) & Capoue > Philips.

SCOUT PICKS CHALLENGE - GAMEWEEK 17 RESULTS

While I sit here bored, in London City Airport, awaiting my flight to the land which will probably mean GW18 results will be delayed... I thought I'd finish GW17 and prepare GW18 ahead of time! Using my time wisely...

    ***** GAMEWEEK RESULTS *****

    Scores on the doors;

    1st - A Manager Has No Name (77pts) [3pts]
    Top 4% - Tyrion Lannister (72pts), Skloppy Kops (69pts) [2pts]
    Top 10% - The Special One (68pts), Silvinho (66pts), UmerLFC (65pts), Sjaugen (63pts), Pogboom (62pts) [1pt]

with ManUnitedComeBack missing out on 61pts! Lahi also had a naughty illegal entry...Valdes and Negredo!

FFS Scout Picks & Differentials scored a combined total of 69pts, for the second week running, therefore A Manager Has No Name and Tyrion Lannister have been granted an additional bonus point! Also like to point out that in the past two GWs, A Manager Has No Name has scored EIGHT points!

    ***** THE STANDINGS *****

    ...and it has projected him straight into the top three! Your top three are;

    1st - Slippin' Jimmy (16pts)
    2nd - A Manager Has No Name (14pts)
    3rd - Too Many Tacos (13pts)

So a 7th red arrow in 8 weeks! The downside continues. Got the following team. Would appreciate any help

    Pickford. Heaton
    Alonso. Cedric. Ake. Holebas. Amat
    Hazard. Sanchez. Lallana. Eriksen. Allen
    Ibra. Costa. Dio

Only issue is the rest of the team will well and truly stink.

            Pickford, fodder.

Maybe downgrade Hazard. Do you really not have a Chelsea DEF?

Idrissa Gueye lashing over from five yards. Three Lukaku assist points go sailing over the bar.

I don't think there's much between them, but Ibra is in good form.

96 - Kelechi Iheanacho has the best minutes per goal ratio of any player in PL history (min. 10 goals), scoring every 96 minutes. Sharp.

But he is an average player that is lucky he comes off bench against teams worn out by city

Trying to get xoverage of the top six teams:

Hello, I'm still looking to bring in three or four of the big hitters, so I'm looking at the budget pairing options for covering the top 'other' top teams, as this might have a bearing.

Current way of thinking is Costa/Aguero/Ibra/Sanchez so I've only looked at Spurs and Liverpool :

    Winks / Wanyama for Tottenham
    Milner / Henderson for Liverpool

Suggestions for the other four teams (Man U, Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal) would be interesting!

    Thanks.

Coverage is a myth. Those 4 midfielders aren't good enough.
