Manchester United’s star striker dominated much of the chat among out hot topic posters, as the community looked at rearranging their budgets to accommodate an increasing array of premium forward options.

Sam Allardyce’s first week in charge of Crystal Palace also came under the microscope, and the long-running arguments over the Fantasy Premier League’s transfer market still rumble on.

Our Members tables offer further analysis of attacking assets, particularly those now answering to Big Sam.

Finally, we take a look at those who have a certain Swedish forward to thank for success in our community leagues.

The Hottest Topics

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s highest Fantasy Premier League Gameweek score of the season on Boxing Day has well and truly cemented the Manchester United talisman’s spot in many Fantasy managers’ teams.

Among those who ensured Zlatan was in place for his 15-point haul at home to Sunderland were those topping our Hall of Fame, according to Top Marx’s analysis of their line ups and transfer moves. There were also plenty of happy Zlatan captainers in our Rough with the Smooth round up of your Gameweek 18 performances.

But with just 10 goals conceded in nine away outings, United’s next visitors, Middlesbrough, may not be so obliging, suggested Conor McGregor in his assessment of the big Swede’s prospects against Aitor Karanka’s resiliant troops.

Ibra’s consistency, with eight goals in his last seven, was among key lessons learned from Gameweek 18. Our hot topic on the latest teachings to take into 2017 also included a look at how Crystal Palace’s new boss Sam Allardyce may affect the Eagles’ pattern of play.

One change for some of the community in 2017 could be a revamped and expensive frontline of Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Chelsea striker Diego Costa and Ibrahimovic. Pompeyfan dropped by to launch a discussion on the viability of putting this trio, known as “Kobra”, in place.

Such a move would surely require a sacrifice in midfield, with some considering jettisoning Eden Hazard, according to our hot topic on whether the Belgian is expendable for those who are also investing in Costa.

Harry Kane has certainly found himself surplus to requirements, after missing a penalty in Spurs’ 4-1 victory away to Southampton on Wednesday night. Even a headed goal during that match is not enough to halt his falling stock, argued Champ in his look at lessons to take from the St Mary’s clash.

Swansea City assets are among other players that have found themselves left out in the cold by Fantasy managers, after a disastrous series of results under Bob Bradley, who was duly sacked earlier in the week. But Say Something Significant’s look at the strategies deployed by caretaker boss Alan Curtis, who takes charge of their home tie with Bournemouth this weekend, suggests holding may be the wise move.

With Kane’s value plummeting and Ibrahimovic’s rocketing, the arguments around FPL’s transfer market were in full force once again this week. Dino’s hot topic on the issue, showed how divided the community continues to be on whether price changes are helping or hindering the game.

Finally, Diesel001 revisited some early season questions to reveal that opinion is still mixed on issues such as which Liverpool midfielder to draft in and the best big-hitting striker to rely on.

The Members Tables

With Big Sam at the helm and a stellar set of fixtures on the horizon, interest in Crystal Palace assets is set to pick up in 2017. To help decide on the best Eagles’ attacking options I’ve constructed this table, which is sorted by shots on target.

Attacking assets among all teams come under the microscope of Doosra’s deadly assassins table. This has been one of our most popular tables over the years and should prove particularly useful for those taking advantage of FPL’s second wildcard, which is available from Friday’s 7pm deadline onwards.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Despite seeing Nathan Redmond sent off in his team, Krak Krak continues to top my Millionaires Club. Please note this is only for managers with a rank below the one million mark in Gameweek 12.

Alex Bowers, who is a previous winner of the now defunct Ultimate Fantasy Premier League game, is the new leader of the FFS Moderators and Contributors league as the tussle at the top intensfies.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Don Look Back In Wenger hit the top score in Gameweek 18 with 103. There are now 1012 teams qualified after 114 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 51.

With a Gameweek 18 score of 84 Raul Seleccion has consolidated his lead at the summit of Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season mini-league and is now into his sixth week within the top 1,000 in the overall rankings.

There is still time to join Red Lightning’s January to May League (code 1441-820), which starts scoring in Gameweek 20. So far 185 teams have entered.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in a future Community Round Up, please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

What would you guys rather do

A/ bench Walcott and play Capoue/Holebas thus saving a FT. So I can reassess.
Next GW, I'd have 2FT, so I'd be able to downgrade Siggy to Philips and would have money ITB to upgrade Walcott if he's still out.

B/ Sell Walcott and bring in Rodriguez. But Siggy is always going to become Philips. Thus leaving me with a mid of

    Philips. Rodriguez. Capoue. Sanchez. Lallana.

    Lukaku's record in the PL:

    12/13: 17 in 35
    13/14: 15 in 31
    14/15: 10 in 36
    15/16: 18 in 37
    16/17: 10 in 17

Forget how good he is at the price. Issue with him is he isn't consistent against who he scores against (i.e. he doesn't bash the poor teams). He is the type of player who blanks against Hull then scores a brace Arsenal. Frustrating if you want to take a one week punt, but very good if you just stick him in your team and leave him there for a season. Just don't make him a captain. Very similar to Harry Kane in this respect.

Yup his scoring is completely random, no trend that I've spotted at all regarding big team small team. Disagree about the similarity to Kane though, for two seasons he has been amazing and consistent and apart from this season I felt safe capping him

Imo Lukaku is hugely underestimated as a player, especially on here. He's the same age as Kane, and yet is a far more rounded player.

I think the same about Kane, apart from this season (and the euros) he's been quite good at link up play and he led the line for spurs really well. Lukaku suffers from the same thing giroud does for me, when they're clean through on goal I don't back them to score

he's an excellent striker who will guarantee you goals. Would be great for one of the fantasy games where you pick players more for the season rather than transferring in and out.

Only big team he's scored against this season is Man City, who aren't exactly brilliant defensively. He's been very reliable from what I can see against smaller teams, only blanking against Swansea (H), Stoke (H) and Bournemouth (A) when playing the full 90. Think he'll get a haul this week too against Hull (A). 7 of his 10 goals have been away from home this season.

Think he would be good for Arsenal:

              Walcott Ozil Sanchez
              Lukaku

              That is some attack.

disagree, look at the wide range of goals he scores.

Wenger is perfectly happy to pick Giroud in his team.

Giroud is 10 times the passer Lukaku is. First touch too. Sanchez is Wenger's dream striker anyway, not a guy like Lukaku (as good as he is).

I just feel he's not good enough to be the main striker at a big club. Imo he has peaked early, and he lacks being clinical, dribbling isn't the best, work rate can be non existent at times.

He looks clinical enough to me, and his dribbling looks fine. Surround him with better players and he'd be even better.

He's hit and miss, misses sitters a lot. Dribbling isn't bad but nothing special. That's the case with most players, but he plays pretty much exactly the same for Belgium really. I see a really good striker who will never be elite

Price difference is big though - £1.6m at the moment. With hindsight, a front three of Costa, Ibra and Lukaku looks very good. And given the price rises probably affordable at the beginning of the season.

well, you can, Lukaku has scored 88 goals in his last 4.5 seasons, for weaker PL teams. He has been consistent his entire career.

Kane has only had a couple of very good seasons.

they're the same age. People seem to forget that Kane had pretty average spells in the Championship in League 1.

He was great those 2 seasons, but for me he needs to step it up now after a terrible Euros and average start to this season. Time will tell whether he'll be something of an Alan Shearer or a Darren Bent.

Lukaku is better imo and even he has a lot of holes in his game. Kane is a great goalscorer. That's about all. It's a massive testament to Pochetino how much he gets out of him. Most top teams wouldn't have him lead their line.

Nothing is clouding my judgement. I have felt the same way about Kane ever since he came out of nowhere and broke into the starting lineup at spurs. I have watched him plenty.

You really feel that Kane is just goals? Come on man that's hyperbole. Kane isn't that much better admittedly but he IS better imo, neither will reach the level of a Costa Ibra Aguero but Kane is the better striker and player.

I agree both overrated too, Lukaku has peaked early but doesn't really have any elite level strengths. Struggling to remember a goal from him where i thought ''wow'' whereas i've thought that about Kane a few times

As I have mentioned, I think price is an important consideration.

Kane at 11.0m is compared against Sanchez, Hazard, Aguero, Costa, KDB and Ibrahimovic now. I don't rate him better than those lot.

Lukaku at 9.4m is below that and up against Mane, Payet, Eriksen, Sturridge, Vardy etc. I think he comes out well against those lot.

I think Kane is a very good player, but I just don't know when he is going to get his goals and his price has rocketed so we now have to compare him with Ibra, Sanchez and Aguero. I remember when he scored his hat-trick against Chelsea - noone saw that coming, but that is the type of player Kane is.

Thanks for feedback on previous WC post. Here's where I'm at, with enough in the bank (on the button) to do Ibra to Aguero after the upcoming GW.

                        Heaton - Jakupovic

                        Alonso - Ake - Brunt - Ward - Amat/Holgate

                        Sanchez - Lallana - Antonio - Snodgrass - Capoue

                        Ibra - Costa - Rondon

                        Midfield is leaving me uneasy...

Am i the only one keeping Kane for this week and not jumping on Costa Train? And will i be the only one to make fool of myself after Kane blanks?

                          I'm still on.

To many other issues and would rather save the transfer.

Hoping hazard can just about cover it.

I'm keeping Kane for Watford and then he's gone for Agüero.

Although he missed a pen he did end his drought. Capable of bagging a couple against Watford surely.

Bringing Agüero back for GW20 but need a midfielder for £6.5m or under to enable the transfer.

So best midfielder for £6.5m or under?

Currently considering Chadli as his fixtures are great and he seems capable of a haul.

Philips another option and saves you about 1m. Not much else in that bracket imo.

Might have swayed me towards Phillips here. The extra cash in the bank could be used in my defence.

                          Between those two Ibra.
Because Sanchez has already frustrated me when given the C, and if Ibra gets a brace he is the player who scored most goals in Europe in 2016 - will motivate him
