Manchester United’s star striker dominated much of the chat among out hot topic posters, as the community looked at rearranging their budgets to accommodate an increasing array of premium forward options.

Sam Allardyce’s first week in charge of Crystal Palace also came under the microscope, and the long-running arguments over the Fantasy Premier League’s transfer market still rumble on.

Our Members tables offer further analysis of attacking assets, particularly those now answering to Big Sam.

Finally, we take a look at those who have a certain Swedish forward to thank for success in our community leagues.

The Hottest Topics

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s highest Fantasy Premier League Gameweek score of the season on Boxing Day has well and truly cemented the Manchester United talisman’s spot in many Fantasy managers’ teams.

Among those who ensured Zlatan was in place for his 15-point haul at home to Sunderland were those topping our Hall of Fame, according to Top Marx’s analysis of their line ups and transfer moves. There were also plenty of happy Zlatan captainers in our Rough with the Smooth round up of your Gameweek 18 performances.

But with just 10 goals conceded in nine away outings, United’s next visitors, Middlesbrough, may not be so obliging, suggested Conor McGregor in his assessment of the big Swede’s prospects against Aitor Karanka’s resiliant troops.

Ibra’s consistency, with eight goals in his last seven, was among key lessons learned from Gameweek 18. Our hot topic on the latest teachings to take into 2017 also included a look at how Crystal Palace’s new boss Sam Allardyce may affect the Eagles’ pattern of play.

One change for some of the community in 2017 could be a revamped and expensive frontline of Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, Chelsea striker Diego Costa and Ibrahimovic. Pompeyfan dropped by to launch a discussion on the viability of putting this trio, known as “Kobra”, in place.

Such a move would surely require a sacrifice in midfield, with some considering jettisoning Eden Hazard, according to our hot topic on whether the Belgian is expendable for those who are also investing in Costa.

Harry Kane has certainly found himself surplus to requirements, after missing a penalty in Spurs’ 4-1 victory away to Southampton on Wednesday night. Even a headed goal during that match is not enough to halt his falling stock, argued Champ in his look at lessons to take from the St Mary’s clash.

Swansea City assets are among other players that have found themselves left out in the cold by Fantasy managers, after a disastrous series of results under Bob Bradley, who was duly sacked earlier in the week. But Say Something Significant’s look at the strategies deployed by caretaker boss Alan Curtis, who takes charge of their home tie with Bournemouth this weekend, suggests holding may be the wise move.

With Kane’s value plummeting and Ibrahimovic’s rocketing, the arguments around FPL’s transfer market were in full force once again this week. Dino’s hot topic on the issue, showed how divided the community continues to be on whether price changes are helping or hindering the game.

Finally, Diesel001 revisited some early season questions to reveal that opinion is still mixed on issues such as which Liverpool midfielder to draft in and the best big-hitting striker to rely on.

The Members Tables

With Big Sam at the helm and a stellar set of fixtures on the horizon, interest in Crystal Palace assets is set to pick up in 2017. To help decide on the best Eagles’ attacking options I’ve constructed this table, which is sorted by shots on target.

Attacking assets among all teams come under the microscope of Doosra’s deadly assassins table. This has been one of our most popular tables over the years and should prove particularly useful for those taking advantage of FPL’s second wildcard, which is available from Friday’s 7pm deadline onwards.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

Despite seeing Nathan Redmond sent off in his team, Krak Krak continues to top my Millionaires Club. Please note this is only for managers with a rank below the one million mark in Gameweek 12.

Alex Bowers, who is a previous winner of the now defunct Ultimate Fantasy Premier League game, is the new leader of the FFS Moderators and Contributors league as the tussle at the top intensfies.

In TorresMagic‘s Last Man Standing competition, Don Look Back In Wenger hit the top score in Gameweek 18 with 103. There are now 1012 teams qualified after 114 were eliminated when the safety score was set at 51.

With a Gameweek 18 score of 84 Raul Seleccion has consolidated his lead at the summit of Red Lightning’s Top 10k Any Season mini-league and is now into his sixth week within the top 1,000 in the overall rankings.

There is still time to join Red Lightning’s January to May League (code 1441-820), which starts scoring in Gameweek 20. So far 185 teams have entered.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in a future Community Round Up, please email me a brief summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head to head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Theo likely to be back for the bournemouth game? Wavering getting him out as I can't find a replacement I rate, but at the same time, iirc he has a history of small injuries that seem to just drag on. What are ppls thoughts?

Lallana seem to be a popular choice but looking at his stats he's over performing fpl wise and should regress.

Hi guys hope you are well 🙂

Bit of a dilemma. If I have Mcauley already does it make it sense to bring in Heaton over Foster for my Pickford replacement? West Brom fixtures are better and Foster is 0.2 cheaper.

Double up could work! Wouldn't have to play McAuley in all away/tough games but can play Foster where he'll get save points etc.

I wouldn't shy away from Foster especially if you think he'll score more points and he's cheaper!

What is concerning though is West Brom only have 3 cs all season. Burnley have 4 and Heaton is top for saves having made 16 more than foster despite missing 2 games.

I have the exact money to transfer Siggy and Kane for Lallana and Aguero. However, with Lallana rising and Kane dropping, I would need to make the move today (after the deadline for GW20). I don't like the idea of making 2 transfers before the majority of the gameweek is played. However, this time may be an exception. Should I:

    A. Siggy and Kane to Lallana and Aguero (after the deadline tonight and -4); or
    B. Wait until after the games and transfer Kane out for Aguero (no hit but with the drops it means I would be without a Liverpool midfielder)?

Monreal is a no-go? Not seen his name mentioned at all and Gibbs is out as usual. 5.9m and does get the occasional bonus.

Holding off on Kane to Costa for I think Kane + Monreal outscores Costa + Smith this week.

Benteke has plum fixtures, unless ur going to zlatan/costa/kun he's worth keeping for next 3-4 anyway. No1 in that price range will score every week so better to be patient and stick it out

    Sanchez without Walcott better?

All his 5 double-digit hauls (without Walcott)
    Avg Creativity - 46.5
    Avg Threat - 75.8

Without Walcott (albeit 2 games only)
    Avg Creativity - 31.7
    Avg Threat - 95.5

Note that the comparison is done with his 5 Double digit hauls with Walcott in the side.
And in the last game he posted his season high Threat tally of 134 (without Theo) against a stubborn West Brom defence, and was unlucky to score as people who've watched the game can attest

So although he faces a Sam Allardyce side this week he probably looks the best bet to score big and as someone pointed out he would've been the top captain pick by YMA's method

    So Glory Glory Alexis Sanchez?

Is Big Fat Sam really that good defensively? Do his stats as a manager bear this out or is it just based on a few clean sheets when he first went to Sunderland and we all had a few FPL points?

          A) Ibra
          B) sanchez
          C) hazard

I had Ibra last week but drawn to hazard for this one. I think stoke look the worse defensively and may rotate. Borough are dogged even if they might give Ibra headed opportunities and palace under Sam will be a little more resolute although sanchez could still get at a weak defence. Thoughts?,

Firstly Merry Christmas and I hope you all have a good new year.

I have a bit of time on my hands and therefore thought I would do an mini article on Hidden Gems (anything under 2%).

          1. Harry Maguire (0.0%) - I know he plays for Hull, but he has the joint most attempts on goal and shots inside the box from a defender in the last 6 matches. I don't expect him to keep many clean sheets but for 4.4m he could be a good bench option.

          2. Benik Afobe (0.6%) - This is out there, but if he could get a regular starting spot Bournemouth tend to create quite a few chances and he is a talented striker.

          3. Joel Ward (0.7%) - With the recent manager change and upturn in fixtures it might be worth jumping on Ward from Gameweek 20 onwards before everyone else.

          4. Cesc Fàbregas (1.9%) - 3 assists and a goal in the last 5 games (starting 3) shows an upturn in his form - granted he is not nailed but if he was 6.9m seems like a good price to me.

          5. Yohan Cabaye (1.1%) - Potentially on penalties and passed the eye test last week. For 5.6m, could be a potential bargain from Gameweek 20 onwards.

So, if you had to predict one player with under 2% ownership for the next 6 matches who would you pick?

Best underlying attacking stats for a center back in the last 6 games ( shocking I know!), shame about the defending part. Put that in some context, he has had more goal attempts and shots on target than Alonso in the last 6 games!

Anyone low on money who is looking for a 3rd midfielder could do worse. Personally, I would pick Pedro over him who is similar price but Fabregas is still a good player.

You do realise Fabregas has played because of suspensions and injuries?

He is now a 6.9 bench player.

I do, but if a player comes in and does well it enhances his chances of playing more regularly.

Chadli is fully fit now and West Brom have good fixtures.

Townsend is also rejuvenated under Big Sam and got 3 bonus last week. He's only 5.9m now having started at 6.5, and Palace have good upcoming fixtures.

Rejuvenated under Big Sam is a bit of a stretch after Sam only having a few days with the squad.

Maybe to early, but Sam's talking him up as an England player and he looked red hot against Watford. Obviously not the best fixture this week

From Gameweek 20 Townsend is a good 4th midfielder option. He should get regular starts, at least until the end of January.

Agree, Townsend has just over 2% ownership otherwise he would have been on the list. Chadli has great potential and at 6.1m looks to be a bargain

Cabaye could be a decent bet.

The rest aren't good enough to have in an FPL team.

Maguire - won't keep hardly any clean sheets so better picks out there for less.
Ward - Palace may eventually tighten up with Big Sam but still there are better options that can keep clean sheets too.
Fabregas - great player but won't start games so a pointless FPL pick.
Afobe - "If he could get a regular start" there are far better players than Afobe "if they could get regular starts".

I'm not keen of the majority but Cabaye could be a genuine option.

No reason, can make it 1% but you then end up with Harry Maguire and Benik Afobe!

The extra 1% allows me to consider players like Cabaye or in your case Silva.

How about Borini (5.1m) as a 3rd striker for those playing 3-5-2? Scored a screamer last week, played 90 mins the last 2 games and usually takes pens. Then again, Anichebe is 0.4m cheaper, you're basically buying him for the pens

Good option for anyone playing 3-5-2. It is a better option than someone like Adama Diomande.

Another option is Peter Crouch (0.6% ownership, 4.7m) - for my money I wouldn't go anywhere near him but it would enable someone who has a low budget to get better players in.

Very similar (but probably better) team than mine.

            I've got:
            Heaton
            Valencia / Jones / Holebas
            Sanchez (c) / Mane / Sigurdsson / Chadli
            Kane/Ibrahimovic/Defoe

2m in the bank, no prizes for guessing who's coming in next week...

Obviously Mane and probably Sigurdsson need to go in the next couple of weeks so I'd say we need to save transfers

          What do you think about my "Kunning" plan for next week? I'm thinking;

          Hazard Out (Yep, I know)
          Mane Out (AFCON)
          Origi Out

Moses In (Chelsea Cover, also have Alonso)
          Lallana In (Liverpool Cover)
          Kun in

Save FT for this week too so all this only at a minus 4.

Once AFCON kicks in Sunderland are going to be awful defensively. Already without Pickford (and already bad) they will also lose their first choice CB pairing.

No we wont. Diloboji is unlikely to get called up. Hes been out of favour since 2015. Losing pickford is a blow but mannone is very capable.

              Hazard and Kane
              To
              Eriksen and Ibra for free?

              Or tighten up this defence?

You dont think Ibra is essential then. Just worried if he gets another big haul

                      I do have 2 ft's though

I would do Alli/Lallana instead of Eriksen and upgrade the defence.

So you would just get rid of hazard and keep kane?

Keeper's Heaton. Looking to get rid of both Walker (fixtures), and Holebas (Watford don't keep clean sheets and regular yellow cards), who would you pick to go with Alogo, Smith and Evans?
