Sergio Aguero continues to create drama.

Today’s first act was an early afternoon bombshell from Manchester which sent shockwaves as Pep Guardiola’s teamsheet hit home.

Then, as the clock struck four, the second act followed: enter Aguero stage left to revive a ten-man City with a finish of sublime quality.

The full performance, spanning three hours, with Pep directing and Aguero as the dashing leading man, summed up our season so far with the Argentine.

It seems the days when Aguero settled in our squads and quietly went about the business of saving our Gameweeks are long gone.

Now the striker seems to insist on seeking the headlines and, just when we begin to settle on the idea of Aguero returning to his familiar groove, Pep intervenes with his own unpredictable flashes.

Some may have anticipated a benched Aguero against Burnley but I was certainly not among them.

Foolishly attempting to play “second guess Pep”, I presumed that he had earmarked the visit of the Clarets as an opportunity to ease Aguero back into goalscoring form.

Instead, according to his post-match comments, he looked to protect his striker from exertion following his unconvincing run-out at Anfield.

“He played 90 minutes after four games out and I did not consider him playing 90 minutes again after two days.”

That seems plausible but why start him on the bench rather than use him to get in front and then hook him early?

Match fitness is surely the issue, and, with a rest in the FA Cup tie next weekend on the cards, why not allow Aguero to regain that sharpness with a start?

Such questions and arguments fall on deaf ears: Pep doesn’t answer to me, other Fantasy managers and perhaps not even to the City fans. Judging by his post-match interview, he barely answers to journalists.

We know he plays by his own rules and that those rules are so often hideously difficult to decipher.

By the end of act two, Aguero had delivered. A seven point return isn’t perhaps a cause for celebration for the 135,000 who transferred him in, or indeed the 11% who gave him the armband. But it came as a huge relief given the reaction at 2pm.

However, do today’s events add to the doubts and concerns surrounding Peps approach to Aguero?

Given that City’s Champions League campaign will accelerate again in February and, by that time, they may even be cast adrift in the title race, will Pep’s attitude to Aguero’s pitch time hinder the striker’s potential further?

There is also another factor.

Gabriel Jesus is now a Manchester City player. A precocious talent, Pep has made it clear that he is about to become another option.

“Now Gabriel Jesus is coming so we will have of course three strikers who can sense a goal.”

This won’t help matters.

We had doubts already but Pep’s approach and teamsheet for Burnley’s visit to the Etihad, just day’s after losing ground following the defeat to Liverpool, has perhaps compounded matters.

Following two acts of ill-discipline, we’re not sure if we can trust Aguero. We’re also not sure if Pep can be trusted to get him on the pitch in the first place.

Aguero had the final say with another reminder of his brilliance. We know the quality he brings but are we willing to risk the hefty fee to buy into the circus that comes with it?

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Surprised so many want to ditch Origi without knowing extent of Sturridge ankle knock, Mane now off to African Nations and Coutinho's return will be managed over couple of gameweeks.

This is true but for me it's a team set-up thing. I've got him and Benteke and really need to upgrade one. Origi hasn't played that well even when he's scored and if I don't get rid his price drop will mean I'm stuck in the lower price bracket

    Good morning all!

The article is aptly named for my question......would Mkhitaryan out be a knee jerk?

At the time of bringing him in I looked at Pogba too who was cheaper and had better stats, plus nailed on. Mkhitaryan's 2.3% ownership at the time was mostly what swayed me.

I think he could do well and played nicely yesterday (should have had an assist) but got brought off on 64 minutes when we needed a goal.

I'd likely just skip Pogba too and stick with Jones/Ibra as my United players. Instead I would likely do something like Mkhi + Siggy to Alli + Walcott (if he's fit).

    Next 3 fixtures: Liverpool (h), Stoke (a), Hull (h).

    Thoughts?

How so? Thought he'd start, couple of decent enough fixtures, differential.

Sure, it hasn't worked out but I don't think it was a knee jerk (I got rid of Walcott who wasn't playing and did it for free).

Miki was a big question mark for me. He had 1-2 nice games but it wasn't enough for me to say that he's a nice pick. Plus his price is too high to gamble like this.

Not knocking you or anything, for I almost did Mane to Mkhi for that Boro game, but I think it was a knee jerk in. That you had Wally made it easier. He looked really good in those 30 minutes, that goal and an assist (had Zlatan scored) made it easy to assume he'd rack up points even if he gets subbed on. We kinda ignored the risk that he could be the first one out. Annoying thing with Mourinho is it's hard to win his trust if he initially had doubts. Look at Mata, Schurrle etc. Always the first to be sacrificed regardless of performance. And then you have Pogba/Ibra, who'll never ever be subbed regardless of how bad they play.

Having said that, I'd keep him for Liverpool. They will need that moment of magic/genius to beat Liverpool and he'll probably provide it.

I think Ibra and Jones is enough cover for Man U's upcoming fixtures. Lots of competition for Man U's mid spots so I think those are good trades.

No sure why people got him in in the first place. Too pricey for a player who is struggling for starts and returns.
One or two good games isn't enough to go by.
There is way better value than Mhykitarian in my opinion.

Exact cash for Origi to Costa, will try wait till after Chelsea game but Origi to Costa a no brainer? Then maybe take a hit in defence if injured players don't make it? Might bring Ake in for Cedric/Evans

    1ft, 4m in the bank

    Heaton, *Pickford*
    *Alonso*, *Cedric*, Holebas, *Evans*, Amat
    Sanchez, Hazard, Lallana, Phillips, Fletcher
    Ibra, Benteke, Origi

Was just looking at the midfield rankings. Don't Phillips & Snodgrass stick out like absolute sore thumbs amongst the Top 10? The cost of the players ranked 5th - 10th are 8.3, 8.5, 8.6, 10.6 - and then there's those two in amongst them at 5.7!

If I was wild carding just now I'd definitely have those two as my 3rd/4th mids. This would free up the cash for a demon quintet up front comprising of Hazard, Sanchez, Ibra, Kane & Costa.

    Nice.

I could REALLY do with Benteke doing something today.

I'm looking at ways I can get Kane or Costa instead of him and it's not all that pretty. Would cost me 12 points most likely (with some other decent changes) but at the expense of getting rid of Hazard.

If he scores I can at least tell myself he'll keep scoring 😀

I transferred Benteke in this GW and he's staying in my team for a while. He'll surely bag a few over the next few GWs with those fixtures. Tonight is the perfect fixture to start!

Amen to that. My decision to Wildcard depends on Benteke right now.

But then, that might just be what I need - 1 green arrow in the last 9 weeks, the worst defense ever, and on the verge of just trying weird stuff to turn it around.

I'm considering swapping benteke for defoe for gwk 21 - Defoe has a pair of good fixtures as well then.

Let's see how Benteke does tonight against one of the worst defences in the league - if he can't score against them then his days may be numbered in my team.
