Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas get amongst the goals as Everton dismantle Manchester City to leap onto our Fantasy radars ahead of a kind upcoming schedule. As Sergio Aguero’s stock continues to plummet under Pep Guardiola, Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic leaves it late but delivers yet again as Jose Mourinho’s men earn a draw with Liverpool. Here’s the Stock Check following Sunday’s pair of encounters…

On The Rise

Romelu Lukaku
It’s five goals and an assist in the last seven Gameweeks for the Everton forward who seems to have rediscovered a degree of consistency ahead of some very favourable fixtures.

With injury concerns surrounding Diego Costa and Olivier Giroud for our three-man frontlines, Lukaku strengthened his case for inclusion by firing the opener at home to City in today’s early encounter at Goodison Park.

Owned by over 24% of Fantasy Premier League managers, the Toffees frontman is looking difficult to ignore at a price of 9.5 right now.

Over 14,000 FPL managers have already snapped him up since yesterday’s deadline as the Merseysiders prepare to face Crystal Palace, Stoke, Bournemouth, Middlesbrough and Sunderland in the upcoming five Gameweeks.

Kevin Mirallas, Ross Barkley
The Everton midfield pair have also upped their output in recent weeks.

An assist for Lukaku’s effort, followed by an early second-half strike, means Mirallas now has two goals and a pair assists in the last four matches. Given that he had failed to produce any attacking points between Gameweek 5-17, it’s something of an understatement to say that this comes as a major improvement.

Sitting in a mere 1.8% of FPL squads, the Belgian has dropped from a starting price of 6.5 to 6.0 this season.

Having now started four successive matches under Ronald Koeman, Mirallas looks to have finally established himself as a regular and is shaping up to be an enticing differential ahead of those aforementioned fixtures.

Barkley’s pair of assists means he has now supplied a goal and four assists in the last six Gameweeks, compared with two goals and a single assist in the opening 15 rounds of matches.

Similar to Mirallas, he’s dropped 0.5 in price (from 7.5 to 7.0) since the start of the campaign and, with an ownership less than 6%, he is now another differential to consider.

Joel Robles
The Spaniard seems to be something of a lucky charm for Everton between the posts.

The Merseysiders have now produced four clean sheets in the five league matches that Robles has started this term, compared with three shutouts over the 16 fixtures with Maarten Stekelenburg in the first XI.

Priced at 4.7 and boasting a mere 0.3% ownership, Robles looks to have barged his way past the Dutchman in Koeman’s plans and that Everton schedule may well turn a few heads for those currently eyeing up an early wildcard.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The veteran United strike came to the rescue yet again to maintain his stunning recent form with a late leveller against Liverpool.

Now top in the FPL forward rankings and second only to Alexis Sanchez overall, Ibrahimovic’s strike means he has scored or assisted in nine of his last 10 league outings.

With trips to Hull City and Leicester City, allied with home clashes against Hull City, Watford and Bournemouth in the next six Gameweeks, it’s difficult to look beyond the Swede as the one “must have” option up front. His consistency continues to rack up the points at a time when other big-hitters have faltered.

James Milner
The Liverpool man continues to profit from penalty duties, with today’s strike at Old Trafford marking his sixth of the season.

Put into perspective, only one other player – Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe, with five – has converted more than three spot-kicks in 2016/17.

Jurgen Klopp’s decision to utilise Milner as a left-back has understandably deterred most from investing, given that he’s listed as a midfielder in FPL.

The 4%-owned summer signing from City is now up to second in terms of value behind Adam Lallana in the Liverpool midfield and has climbed above Philippe Coutinho for overall points.

If, as expected, he’s reclassified as a defender in FPL next season, Milner may well be one of the first names in our pre-season squads should Klopp opt against bringing in another left-back.

In Decline

Sergio Aguero
Today’s failure at Goodison means that the City striker has notched just once in his last four league appearances.

Given that he also missed four of the last eight Gameweeks due to suspension, Aguero’s standing as “essential” for our starting XIs has all but vanished this season.

With just a single attempt on target against the Toffees, the Argentine shows no sign of shedding the inconsistency that continues to blight his displays under Pep Guardiola.

Having recently lost spot-kick duties to Yaya Toure, Aguero’s appeal is on the wane again as City now prepare to host an in-form Tottenham.

Whereas Harry Kane has earned in excess of 52,000 new owners prior to their head-to-head, only 3,000+ have taken the plunge on the out-of-sorts South American, with over 6,000 choosing to show him the exit door instead.

Daniel Sturridge
There was no real surprise to see the Liverpool striker named amongst the substitutes after an insipid midweek showing at Southampton in the EFL Cup.

Klopp instead opted for Divock Origi to lead the line at Old Trafford before the introduction of fit-again Philippe Coutinho saw Roberto Firmino shift back into a “false nine” role for the remaining half hour.

Despite the absence of Sadio Mane, Sturridge ultimately warmed the bench from start to finish, and after a brief run of two successive starts in all competitions, he looks to have quickly tumbled back down the pecking order once again.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Dunno If i like Pogba playing in the double pivot with Rooney getting some minutes. Coutinho looked great in the minutes he played today.

Pogba has to go now. He was ok in the hole(ish) for a few games but now he's back on that left hand side of a midfield three most of the time.

I must admit I changed my opinion on the Coutinho matter as soon as he came on. Looked lively and creative....perhaps straight back to his earlier form.

It would mean taking Mkhitaryan out for me with Stoke (a) and Hull (h) next and he's surely going to get some points soon! 🙂

Coutinho looked pretty irresistible when he came on, expecting him to start vs Swansea at home... needs to come in.

Facilitating that by switching back to 3-5-2 with Crouch as the more than capable 1st bencher, ludicrous value for his current returns.

I sold Ake and opted for Rose as his replacement, feel good about it despite yellow card issue, been wanting him in my team for weeks. I'd be cautious about selling Mkhitaryan...I'm thinking about bringing him in for Hazard after Chelsea play Hull although once Coutinho bangs in a brace against Swansea that plan will probably go out the window

    @AG.

We get this wrong over and over again.

Hazard playing failse9 means that two other mids (Willian and Pedro) will play beyond him on average....that's what a Failse9 does....they feed the other mids that go beyond them It isn't Hazard we want it's Pedro or Willian when Hazard is Failse9.

Hazard could still do well against Hull but the pendulum swings towards those other two mids a bit..

All this Gabriel Jesus talk is a little overhyped by the anti-Sergio masses. Pep has already talked down Jesus' involvement and I feel he'll be treated like Sané has been, also Jesus seems like a player to compliment Aguero as opted to replace him.

I would just like to comment on Guardiola's ludicrous post-match interview with the BBC (after Everton 4-0 City).

Pep: "We create enough chances to score a goal and we are not able. And that, for the mind, for the players, it's tough. And that's why we have to keep going, to train."

Interviewer: "Are you more frustrated, then, with not taking chances or defending, with letting 4 goals in?"

Pep: "That is a consequence. When you score goals you are more optimistic and you defend better. We create chances, we cannot score, it was in many, many games that would happen. We don't concede too many chances and we create more than the opponents."

Interviewer: "Is this league different to many others?"

Pep: "No. In all the leagues, the way normally I would like to play is to have more possession and more chances and the opponents few. The only difference is in the boxes we are not strong enough. We are a team with a lot of quality but not with a lot of scorers."

Am I the only one to find this interview utterly bewildering? City not strong enough in the opponents' box? Well, why the hell has Aguero been told to "run more, press more, contribute more" then? He's the best box striker in the PL and one of the best in the world. Today he spent half his time on the left wing (just like Lewandowski did in Guardiola's first season at Bayern) and was deeper than Sterling and De Bruyne for much of the time. If City are not strong enough in the opponents' box it is Guardiola's doing.

And City not strong enough in their own box? Well, sure. But why is that? This is the manager who said Fernandinho "could easily play CB". Who said that Kolarov was one of the best CBs in Europe. Who insisted on buying a young £50m CB who can pass but has always been positionally suspect. Who won't select a stable back 4 and sometimes switches to a back 3 without the team looking as if they have been prepared properly. Who insisted on signing a 33yo GK who is good with his feet (so they say) but hardly makes a save. Who said "I don't coach tackling". Stones gets a lot of the media blame but I think he has been hung out to dry.

For a while I found it amusing that so many thought Pep could do no wrong. I was also delighted about it from a partisan point of view because there is no doubt that City have the tools to win the PL. But now I am beginning to find this bewildering arrogance to be actually offensive because what he says seems to bear so little resemblance to reality. I'm sorry, this Emperor has no clothes.

Anyway, rant over. I just needed to get that off my chest.

      You're spot on.

Also it's a manager's responsibility to keep his talismanic player happy, within reason. And Aguero doesn't look happy. When you fail to do so, well, look at Hazard and Chelsea last season.

The way he treated Joe Hart was a disgrace and while I was aware some considered him arrogant I thought maybe its just the price of success. All top managers are weird that way, just part of the make up of being a manager, sticking to your ideas etc,

But clearly in this league Pep has some screws lose. The pressure is getting to him with that interview a few weeks ago and unfortunately Citeh are unraveling on the pitch too.

      Peps arrogance knows no bounds.

He had a world class team in Barca that could have won the champions league with Mick McCarthy in charge.

He then went on to ruin the powerhouse Bayern team that had previously dismantled his own Barca team 7-0 on aggregate over two legs to turn them into an inferior side that were that suspect at the back they lost their strength and were unable to win the CL.

He's no going on to muzzle one of the world best strikers just to prove he does things differently.

Not even in the top three managers in the PL never mind the best in the world.

I don't think there's much to choose between Willian/Pedro and Hazard in terms of FPL...just a shame the first two have been sharing game time.

    For the record

So far this season the Willian/Pedro side of Costa has yielded 10 goals and 8 assists (roughly equal) whilst the Hazard side of Costa on his own has yielded 9 goals and 5 assists

That might be worth knowing if Costa has become a long term problem for Conte and both/either of Willian and/or Pedro nail their place.
