The Gameweek 22 captain poll is likely to be dominated by players from London clubs, with all three of Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs boasting the form and fixtures to endorse their assets.

At the start of the season, Spurs’ trip to Manchester City would have been marked down as a daunting prospect for Mauricio Pochettino’s men. But, on current form, Spurs on-fire trio Dele Alli (8.7), Christian Eriksen (8.7) and Harry Kane (11.1) will all be backed to return points to contest for the captaincy.

Pep Guardiola’s side were in disarray in Sunday’s 4-0 defeat to Everton and will surely struggle to repel a Spurs attack that have scored an impressive 14 goals over their last four outings.

Kane’s hat-trick against West Brom means he now has six goals in the last four Gameweeks and may even see him challenge for top spot in our poll.

Unsurprisingly, more than 77,000 FPL managers have swooped for the Spurs striker ahead of Gameweek 22, as the fall-out from Diego Costa’s absence at Leicester City rolls on.

Eriksen is also a strong contender on the back of a 10-point haul in Saturday’s rout of the Baggies – his sixth double-digit return in nine Gameweeks.

Alli’s away form is also difficult to overlook: he has registered six goals on the road, more than both Kane and Eriksen.

In contrast, City’s Sergio Aguero (12.8) seems unlikely to tussle at the top of this week’s poll, yet, with 11 goals this term, it could be dangerous to underestimate the 22.1% owned Argentine.

Alexis Sanchez (11.9) remains the pick of Arsenal’s assets ahead of an Emirates meeting with travel-sick Burnley.

Away from home, the Clarets have just one clean sheet and conceded 20 goals, indicating that the 36.9% owned Chilean will be granted ample opportunity to continue a run that has seen him return points in eight of the last nine Gameweeks.

Elsewhere in the Gunners’ camp, an ankle injury picked up by striker Olivier Giroud (8.7) in Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Swansea City will likely temper interest in the Frenchman.

Mesut Ozil (9.5) may prove a popular alternative, however.

The German returned an assist on his comeback at the Liberty Stadium and has scored five times so far this term.

Chelsea’s obliging Gameweek 22 fixture finds them hosting a Hull City side that has shipped 24 goals on the road and earned a solitary clean sheet.

Diego Costa’s (10.4) role in Sunday’s contest remains in doubt and that is likely to see our attentions drawn to other options on Antonio Conte’s teamsheet.

On the back of just one goal and an assist in the last seven matches, Eden Hazard (10.4)’s recent performances may count against him. However, with seven of his nine goals arriving at Stamford Bridge, the Belgian remains a strong contender for returns.

Pedro (7.0) has been added to the poll on the back of two goals and an assist in four, offering a cut-price alternative to the 33.5% owned Hazard.

Pedro has returned in five of his last six home starts, providing four goals and five assists.

Liverpool and Manchester United may have battled to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, but both have far stronger Gameweek 22 fixtures.

The Reds face Swansea City at Anfield, with Paul Clement’s side having conceded 22 times on the road, with 18 goals shipped in their last six Gameweeks.

That should attract high interest in Liverpool’s attacking midfielders Roberto Firmino (8.4), Adam Lallana (7.7) and Philippe Coutinho (8.3). The latter is expected to earn his first start in Gameweek 22, following a long injury lay-off and two substitute appearances.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6)’s remarkable consistency should also garner plenty of votes.

The Swede travels to Stoke City having provided yet another goal in Sunday’s stalemate: he has registered attacking returns in nine of his last ten Gameweeks.

Everton’s Romelu Lukaku (9.5) also presents a convincing case. He scored a third goal in four outings against Manchester City on Sunday and travels to face a Crystal Palace outfit that continue to toil under Sam Allardyce.

The Eagles have conceded eight goals and have failed to earn a clean sheet since the former England manager took the reins.

Among the differential options, Bournemouth’s Junior Stanislas (5.2) once again provides an enticing option.

Owned by just 2.9%, the midfielder’s spot-kick against Hull City confirmed his status behind first choice taker Callum Wilson, as he prepares to host a Watford side that has shipped 19 goals on their travels.

West Brom duo Matt Phillips (5.8) and Salomon Rondon (6.8) have the home form to make them intriguing alternatives for the armband.

Sunderland arrive at The Hawthorns having failed to pick up a clean sheet away from home and have also conceded more headed attempts than any other side this season.

That will surely hand Phillips the opportunity to add to his four assists already accrued on home turf.

Backers of the 8.8% owned Rondon will also be optimistic he can expose a frail Black Cats backline to find a sixth home goal of the campaign.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Would you do Siggy to Hazard(c) for free? Although I have other pressing issues like Benteke and Giroud.

    Hi
    So, team is
    Heaton Grant
    Alonso Brunt Jones McAuley Friend
    Hazard Sanchez Philips Snodgrass Allen
    Ibrahimovic Kane Gray

Somehow, ended up with both Brunt and McAuley. Need one of either Rose or Walker.
Now, I can do it by this
    Gray to Crouch
    McAuley to Rose/Walker
Also, if I get Crouch in, would like to get rid of Allen.
Then, can do Allen to Stanislas.
Won't mind taking a hit as I did pretty good this gameweek.
Have almost exact funds to do this. Considering price rise/falls.

Spurs defender could probably wait a week till after city game unless you think city wont score at home. Might want to upgrade one of those sub 6mil mids in the mean time if downgrading gray? depends on the formation you're playing. if playing 2 upfront then defo downgrade grey

      A. Don't think Negredo is a good option long term, and short it might not even be better then Carroll.
      B. Feels a bit sideways, and Firmino did well before Coutinho went down, so might pick it up again.

To be fair I'd save this week and look to sort the team with two transfers (or even a -4 and 3 transfers) next week. Allows you a real chance to get something done instead of trying to patch up with less then optimal replacements. Also allow you to consider dropping Hazard since you cannot really before Hull at home.

Maybe something like Hazard + Carroll -> Stanislas + Lukaku.
If you wanna stretch to Antonio or the likes of Kane you can get ekstra funds from that 3rd transfer. Maybe B gives you the much needed 0.1 🙂

I have the exact same front eight with a defence of Alonso, Daniels, Brunt, Holebas, Pieters with 1.3 ITB. My original plan was to save this week and then bring in Eriksen/Walker for Hazard/Holebas next week. I may cave and bring in Lukaku for Aguero. Will try to stay strong as Aguero is a differential in my ML but hurts having a 12.8m differential getting me 2 points!!!

Lukaku if you have Spurs cover (Alli/Eriksen) - form, fixtures, cheaper.
Coutinho more consistent. Although right now I think there are better options than both of them.

    6. Ephurion

      Lukaku or Kane?
Lukaku - Fixtures, no blank, nailed and involved in almost everything they do. Also the only good way into Evertons attack.

      Coutinho or Firmino?
Neither. Look for spurs mid until Mané is back and/or Liverpool looks to be rolling. Would go for Coutinho at gunpoint due to him simply being more involved and on set pieces.

    7. Deulofail
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 1 month ago

Kane. He'll score more goals. Your other players are only relevant if you have 3 and want more. But there are other players worthy of a def spot than Spurs full backs Eg Alonso, Azpi, Bellerin, Kosc, Baines etc. Or even other players worthy of mid slots (though less so). But Kane is better value, even at that price, than any forward, except perhaps Defoe and Ibra (and Costa if he's available).

      Coutinho, because he's so involved

Small debate on the last article, seems to make sense to raise it here.

Should your vote in the captain's poll be:

    A. The player you're intending to captain
    B. The player you believe is the best captain choice this week even if you don't own them

    1. Kings of Lyon ★
      • 15 Years

It should always be B but people will vote for who they they've got.

I prefer B as I'd rather get a group view on who is best to captain regardless of ownership levels, I believe A is more popular though.

B But managers are going to be naturally bias towards there own player

Maybe if you had to vote for the captain and the vice captain in a proportional representation vote you might get a more balanced view over all

    9. MTPockets

The only to get an objective captain poll where people would ignore the players they own would be to make it a competition of sorts and link it to profiles.

So given a list of 20 candidates, if you predict the player who will score most highly this GW (the essence of chossing a captain) you score a point. Thus creating a tally over the season and a little bit of competition. This element would hopefully remove some "own player" bias.

      • Ruth_NZ
        • 11 Years
        9 years, 1 month ago

It should be B but that's wishful thinking. Most managers are biased towards the team they actually have and the captain they will actually select.

It doesn't matter really. Those that follow the poll are happy that it is (essentially) biased towards higher-owned players because they are playing an ownership-based game. Personally I pick my own captain and mostly don't even look at the FFS poll unless I am very undecided.

Scout Pick Community Champion Lottery – Gameweek 22

Once again we are on the look out for a champion to represent the community to take on the Scout Picks and win the chance of a prize.

If you want to take part please email your FFS name and FPL ID number to community@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk .

The champion will then be selected at random shortly after the deadline of 11am tomorrow (Tuesday) and then be asked to submit their XI by Friday 2pm by emailing me at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk

We only need 11 picks and please be mindful of the 84m budget. There’s no captain in the picks either and please stick to a designated FPL formation, including no more than three players from one team. No captain or chips will be applied.

At the end of the season the champion who beats the picks by the highest margin will win a £100 Amazon voucher.

The champion will be revealed in a midweek Scout Squad article on Tuesday, which will outline our initial thinking around the picks. Our and the champions picks will be revealed as usual the day before the first match of the Gameweek.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager” chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.
