The Gameweek 22 captain poll is likely to be dominated by players from London clubs, with all three of Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs boasting the form and fixtures to endorse their assets.

At the start of the season, Spurs’ trip to Manchester City would have been marked down as a daunting prospect for Mauricio Pochettino’s men. But, on current form, Spurs on-fire trio Dele Alli (8.7), Christian Eriksen (8.7) and Harry Kane (11.1) will all be backed to return points to contest for the captaincy.

Pep Guardiola’s side were in disarray in Sunday’s 4-0 defeat to Everton and will surely struggle to repel a Spurs attack that have scored an impressive 14 goals over their last four outings.

Kane’s hat-trick against West Brom means he now has six goals in the last four Gameweeks and may even see him challenge for top spot in our poll.

Unsurprisingly, more than 77,000 FPL managers have swooped for the Spurs striker ahead of Gameweek 22, as the fall-out from Diego Costa’s absence at Leicester City rolls on.

Eriksen is also a strong contender on the back of a 10-point haul in Saturday’s rout of the Baggies – his sixth double-digit return in nine Gameweeks.

Alli’s away form is also difficult to overlook: he has registered six goals on the road, more than both Kane and Eriksen.

In contrast, City’s Sergio Aguero (12.8) seems unlikely to tussle at the top of this week’s poll, yet, with 11 goals this term, it could be dangerous to underestimate the 22.1% owned Argentine.

Alexis Sanchez (11.9) remains the pick of Arsenal’s assets ahead of an Emirates meeting with travel-sick Burnley.

Away from home, the Clarets have just one clean sheet and conceded 20 goals, indicating that the 36.9% owned Chilean will be granted ample opportunity to continue a run that has seen him return points in eight of the last nine Gameweeks.

Elsewhere in the Gunners’ camp, an ankle injury picked up by striker Olivier Giroud (8.7) in Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Swansea City will likely temper interest in the Frenchman.

Mesut Ozil (9.5) may prove a popular alternative, however.

The German returned an assist on his comeback at the Liberty Stadium and has scored five times so far this term.

Chelsea’s obliging Gameweek 22 fixture finds them hosting a Hull City side that has shipped 24 goals on the road and earned a solitary clean sheet.

Diego Costa’s (10.4) role in Sunday’s contest remains in doubt and that is likely to see our attentions drawn to other options on Antonio Conte’s teamsheet.

On the back of just one goal and an assist in the last seven matches, Eden Hazard (10.4)’s recent performances may count against him. However, with seven of his nine goals arriving at Stamford Bridge, the Belgian remains a strong contender for returns.

Pedro (7.0) has been added to the poll on the back of two goals and an assist in four, offering a cut-price alternative to the 33.5% owned Hazard.

Pedro has returned in five of his last six home starts, providing four goals and five assists.

Liverpool and Manchester United may have battled to a 1-1 draw on Sunday, but both have far stronger Gameweek 22 fixtures.

The Reds face Swansea City at Anfield, with Paul Clement’s side having conceded 22 times on the road, with 18 goals shipped in their last six Gameweeks.

That should attract high interest in Liverpool’s attacking midfielders Roberto Firmino (8.4), Adam Lallana (7.7) and Philippe Coutinho (8.3). The latter is expected to earn his first start in Gameweek 22, following a long injury lay-off and two substitute appearances.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.6)’s remarkable consistency should also garner plenty of votes.

The Swede travels to Stoke City having provided yet another goal in Sunday’s stalemate: he has registered attacking returns in nine of his last ten Gameweeks.

Everton’s Romelu Lukaku (9.5) also presents a convincing case. He scored a third goal in four outings against Manchester City on Sunday and travels to face a Crystal Palace outfit that continue to toil under Sam Allardyce.

The Eagles have conceded eight goals and have failed to earn a clean sheet since the former England manager took the reins.

Among the differential options, Bournemouth’s Junior Stanislas (5.2) once again provides an enticing option.

Owned by just 2.9%, the midfielder’s spot-kick against Hull City confirmed his status behind first choice taker Callum Wilson, as he prepares to host a Watford side that has shipped 19 goals on their travels.

West Brom duo Matt Phillips (5.8) and Salomon Rondon (6.8) have the home form to make them intriguing alternatives for the armband.

Sunderland arrive at The Hawthorns having failed to pick up a clean sheet away from home and have also conceded more headed attempts than any other side this season.

That will surely hand Phillips the opportunity to add to his four assists already accrued on home turf.

Backers of the 8.8% owned Rondon will also be optimistic he can expose a frail Black Cats backline to find a sixth home goal of the campaign.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later this week when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Would you downgrade hazard or firmino to upgrade anichebe or just transfer him to someone like Barnes.

    Foster / pick
    Alonso, friend, mee, pieters, Amat
Sanchez, hazard, firmino, Phillips, de roon
    Aguero, ibra, anichebe

Would really like to keep Kun for the fixtures after Spurs but acknowledge Kun to Kane is the obvious move...

I've downgraded Haz to Pedro, watching the past games it seems to be the same cover with a lot less cost.

I used the free cash to upgrade Giroud to Kane

Super cheap defender suggestions? I need to get rid of Ake before his price falls again, already dropped 0.1. Rest of my team is sound for this weekend really so can afford to make the change.

Already got West Brom and Middlesborough cover.

    Cheers,

Love is starting at the moment but similar to Amat. Holgate starts are even more sporadic. Love at 4.0 seems best bet

Holgate is a great shout IF he starts regularly. Everton tend to play 4 at the back, unless pressing attack minded teams like Arsenal/Man City and soaking up pressure. Then switch from 3 at the back (including Holdgate) with Coleman/Baines to a back 4 (then he's competing with Jags/Mori/Williams).

depends if you can afford to gamble with rest of defence. Has to be a consideration for all now but common likes to switch to 4-4-2 and then he's benched most likely. Love if you need him to play reg, holgate if can gamble

I'm a love owner, and by him playing (5) over mcauley (-3) this week I made 8 points, but he was very poor and I wouldn't be surprised if he's back on bench as billy jones is now almost back from injury

I think as Koeman starts to get the players in he wants he may play 3-4-3 more often (especially while Gueye is away at AFCON anyway). Jagielka is rumoured to be off, so Holgate may get some more starts over the next few

    Afternoon all

Trust all of you had a good gameweek? Pleased to have now climbed to the dizzy heights of 35k!

Team for this week and possible transfers below:

    Foster

    Alonso – Baines – P. Jones

    Hazard (C) – Ozil – Alli – Phillips

    Ibrahimovic – Lukaku – Carroll

Bench: Heaton; De Roon; A. Smith; Amat

    1.2m in bank, 1 FT

Some possible options this week for your consideration:

    1. Ozil > Coutinho (and bank some more cash to upgrade elsewhere)
    2. Amat > Yoshida/Schlupp/Lovren/Chambers... or any other suggestions welcome
    3. A. Smith > Daniels (upgrade)
    4. P. Jones > Valencia (a bit sideways but added attacking potential)
    5. Save FT

Would personally look to get Carroll out somehow, not sure if any of your suggested transfers are worth it curently. Maybe save and then have 2 FT to do an Ozil downgrade and Carrol swap combo.

Barkley seems a bit of a knee jerk. I would've held Firmino with Coutinho coming back.

Kun to Kane and maybe Pogba to someone was the only change needed.

You are missing Chelsea attack for a plum fixture against Hull.

I wouldn't do anything more, you're just be burning points. Anyone you bring in will need to score more than 4pts than who you take out.

One final question I need to pick your brains on:

Given the major price drop has happened already, should i stick to Costa and only transfer him out post team news - or does it still make sense to do it asap?

Pros: If he starts, he's a differential (against Hull!) and he would love to score after the controversy
Cons: I take the price drop, and potentially price out of a defender

    1. Bubz

Depends on your finances and selling price, another drop might not mean anything at the moment. However, I am a Chelsea fan and sold him Friday night.

      1. LakhaneeFC
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 6 months ago

That was the move to make I suppose, last Friday - but I missed that

Financially, given I'm planning to move to Lukaku if he doesn't play, I think I can afford the next 0.1 drop in his price - TV will take a hit though, but I think I can live with that

        Does that make sense?

        1. gunner 2727
          • 11 Years
          9 years, 6 months ago

it does but only on the basis that you find out definitively if available or not available. Also bear in mind by the time presser comes he will be 10.2/10.3? Just clicked on him and showing as locked??!

      i posted these thoughts earlier.....

Just a quick note on Costa for those being patient. If bought at a low price it really is a crappy situ and no one really knows whats going on.... BUT.How likely is it that he is a) fit this week... and b) all made up with conte ....and c) still at the club....and d) conte happy to throw him straight back in and drop Pedro or Willian after they played superbly.my head says highly unlikely, which basically means you are holding for a fortnight on bench by which time he will be 10mill and facing some tough fixtures.... seems an obvious sell to me with so many other options!

      1. LakhaneeFC
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 6 months ago

Fair points - I agree there are a LOT of variables he needs to get right to make the team.

My point was that since the price drop has already happened, might be worthwhile to stick and take the final 0.1 drop no?

Yeah wait. For me the best time to transfer is last Friday or when you get news. He's one of the best FPL picks, so don't get rid until there's reasonable doubt he'll play

Reasonable is subjective, ironically. = enough to justify removing him from yer team (still subjective). = The chances he won't play this week and next week = low. = news that he's unlikely to play this week or confirmation that he wants to leave.

    Captaincy Thoughts;

Brought Pedro in for Walcott last week. He's returned in all the recent home games, will start, and is arguably the form player of the team in form with the juiciest fixture this week.

Pedro over Hazard? Or another safe Ibra pick?

I have both now but it's so easy to fall in to the trap of captaining your dearest player when the cheaper one is clearly the form option. Or go Kane at City or Ibra for safety..?

Not sure. City could get mullered even though on paper it's a tricky fixture. Conversely Hull could put up a fight and only lose 1-0.

Is Mirallas a danger to Baines' penalty taking now he's nailed? Can't find whether he was on the pitch when Baines took the most recent one but I remember last year he took a couple when we didn't expect.

Is Baines worth a hit? Especially seen as I may have Giroud to deal with too? Really, really want Baines in and have the money in the bank for Holebas or Nyom -> Baines, but have already used my FT on J Rod -> Phillips...

    Thoughts?

    Foster
    Alonso - Jones - Holebas
    Sanchez - Pogba - Eriksen - Phillips
    Ibra - Costa - Giroud*

Heaton - De Roon - Nyom - Amat

Never worth it for a defender.........unless you will be priced out.

Defo wait for Giroud news, i wouldn't say any defender is worth a hit tbh - unless you can't get 11 players out.

Not worth the hit unless (maybe) if you can't afford the price rise

Don't do it. You have Costa and Giroud to worry about atm.

Your team looks fine for next week if all play.

Pretty sure I took a hit when getting Baines in, since then he's gotten me 34 points in the last 4, there is more value in defence than you realise

Good to go for this week?

    Foster
    McAuley - Alonso - Lovren
    Sanchez(C) - Eriksen - Ali - Lallana
    Ibra - Defoe - Giroud

    Bench - Jaku - Fletcher - Kingsley - Mee
    Bank 2.2 million.

If Giroud isn't passed fit i may go for Lukaku otherwise i reckon i can save my transfer.

Ake is holding that useless 5th def spot in my team, while he s my 3rd Chelsea player, so I d like to get rid at some point.
Thinking about Holgate. On his last 2 starts, Everton won 0-2 at Leicester and 4-0 vs ManCity, so this formation seems to work for Koeman too. Do you think Everton will need to play the same formation in the next relatively easier matches, meaning Holgate will be present?
FPL wise, should I do Ake->Holgate?

Koeman, whilst saints manager, swapped repeatedly between 4 at the back and 5. He's doing the same at Everton.
Same dilemma last year but with Targett instead of Holgate.

He's in my bench, but 5th def so not worried.

Would I have to much money tied up at the back with this defence?

    Alonso(6.4) - Rose(5.9) - Coleman(5.5) - Jones(4.7) - Amat(4.0)

Looking at getting rid of Pieters and Coleman looks a good option. Should I go cheaper with Chambers though?
