Dugout Discussion – Liverpool vs Swansea City

Gameweek 22 gets underway this Saturday lunchtime as Liverpool welcome basement-dwellers Swansea City to Anfield at 12.30pm.

Subject to more transfers in than any midfielder in FPL last week, Philippe Coutinho is handed a first league start since Gameweek 13.

The Brazilian has three double-figure hauls in his last five home starts and faces up to a defence that’s conceded at least three goals in seven of the previous nine Gameweeks.

Adam Lallana, with a goal or assist in six of his seven home starts, is another one to watch, though Coutinho’s return could also spark Roberto Firmino back into life. The latter bagged a goal and assist against the Swans earlier in the season and is set to return to the “false 9” role against Paul Clement’s strugglers.

        This was part of the danger that I don't think was fully appreciated by some.

        Klopp's tactics involve a lot of running. You can maintain it a bit with a deep squad, more time between matches or a winter break like in the Bundesliga. Even then, his finally season at Dortmund when it all went to pot, I thought some of the players looked exhausted.

        Pool don't have the winter break, and if they get European competition next season they really do need to look at having a deeper squad. Not just bodies, but class players they can rotate frequently throughout the season.
