A day for differentials.

Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino and West Bromwich Albion’s Gareth McAuley are the only two players with more than 10% ownership to hit double-digits.

Firmino was teetering on the edge prior to the today’s deadline – owned by just over 456,000 FPL managers or 10.6% – the Brazilian had shed 340,000 since Gameweek 16.

Such losses are understandable, sparked by a dismal run of paltry returns. A single goal over ten barren Gameweeks – his strike in a 4-1 victory over Stoke City – did little to stem a tide of rejection. With Sadio Mane and Adam Lallana thriving, Firmino owners were switching allegiance or looking elsewhere as rival heavy-hitters delivered.

Today’s 14-points will reverse matters, for now at least. That fifth double-figure haul for Firmino ironically arrived on a day that saw Philippe Coutinho make a return to the Liverpool starting line-up. Withdrawn on 65 minutes, his comeback was curtailed as he gave way to allow his compatriot to take centre-stage.

While his two goals were not enough to save Liverpool from defeat, Firmino’s own Fantasy stock is revived, just as thousands were making or considering the move for his Brazilian team-mate.

But Coutinho’s early withdrawal has already proved enough to give some early adopters the jitters. Meanwhile, after suffering a third successive blank, Lallana has now returned just a single goal and an assist in six starts.

Based on early transfer activity, both are facing ownership losses over the extended gap to Gameweek 23, with this shifting affection from one Liverpool asset to another typical of behaviour this season.

Two prolonged spells of form from Coutinho’s and Lallana have come close to resolving the argument but, in truth, we look unlikely to ever settle on one of Klopp’s midfield as a dependable “solution”.

Perhaps the key question should be whether we should overlook them altogether.

Two draws and a defeat has stalled the Liverpool title bid, while over the last four Gameweeks, their attacking numbers are settled in mid-table. They face Chelsea next.

Sadio Mane’s absence appears to be a key factor and, arguably, until his return, we should reserve judgement, regardless of Firmino’s flurry.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Not much I guess but the thing is Jones and Brunt are only 0.1 in difference
With Nothing pressing I thought I would rather have Brunt than Jones

Any Benteke owners on here? What are your thoughts?
As poor as both CP and Benteke have been, looking at their upcoming fix, I'm gonna risk holding the big man for a little while longer...

Wouldn't get him in, but can see the appeal of keeping. Not sure I'd be able to stomach it though.

Yeah, def wouldn't buy, it's tough! I want to get rid of Ake this week first (also have Amat) so won't be getting rid for a hit anyway!

I'm trying to decide the same! Already made my changes though holebas and walker for brunt but when I do get the chance I'm trying to get in Lukaku for him maybe for a hit next week if Aguero blanks again as well

Still I still own him, unfortunately.

My thoughts are: I want rid!

But with Holebas suspended, Toby a doubt and Amat a waste of space... it looks like I may have to hang onto him for at least another week (don't see anyone in that price bracket worth taking a hit for)?

Same had both Ake & Amat so pulled the trigger on Ake to Funes Mori today.
I think he's the best option in the price bracket considering the fix. There are not many options at his price or lower really, Carroll maybe if he keeps going, I think it's downhill for Defoe from here!

    Hazard / Lallana / Defoe >> Alli / Antonio / Costa

Thinking about this for next week. Can see a much better points output from the latter. Would you do it?

    1. HazardAGuess
      • 9 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

Hazard - Good, but expensive for his points output. I've captained him this week, but will likely be out either way.

Lallana - Know he played well last match, but on a stretch of blanks. Not the best games coming up (although Liverpool turn it on then)

Defoe - Machine, but Spurs/Southampton/Everton in the next 4.

      - - - - -

Alli - Top form. Up as a striker.

Antonio - Showing great signs lately. Tons of assists. Almost beneficial that Payet is out. If anything happens to Carrol, he'll likely be up front(?)

Costa - Mr. consistent. Next two fixtures are had, but he could score for sure. Obviously I'll wait to see if he plays today.

    2. MTPockets
      9 years, 5 months ago

      Hazard - depends on today.
Antonio - not sure vs City.

      1. HazardAGuess
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 5 months ago

I agree it may be difficult vs. City (despite their defensive mishaps), but how about just beyond that game? I don't see Lallana getting much vs. Chelsea. (A though Hull is tasty, despite Swansea also having should been...)

        1. MTPockets
          9 years, 5 months ago

They lost 5-0 to city couple of weeks ago in the cup. Fixtures are good after that, and whu safe from 26/28 blanks.
Wouldn't personally be in hurry to get him, but I take your point on Lallana (I have same quandry).

Thanks for the input. Thankfully Antonio isn't a defender. That would be painful! I am wary of the BGWs hence Antonio seemed a decent shout. (Of course Alli may get one.)

Will keep an eye on the price changes, news etc. 🙂

As I've seen, Brunt only scores points at Home and his form (FPL wise) isnt great away from home.
    gwk 11 LEI (A) 1 - 2 Points- 1
    gwk 12 BUR (H) 4 - 0 Points- 7
    gwk13 HUL (A) 1 - 1 Points- 2
    gwk14 WAT (H) 3 - 1 Points- 14
    gwk15 CHE (A) 1 - 0 Points- 1
    gwk16 SWA (H) 3 - 1 Points- 10
    gwk17 MUN (H) 0 - 2 Points- 0
    gwk18 ARS (A) 1 - 0 Points- 2
    gwk19 SOU (A) 1 - 2 Points- 2
    gwk20 HUL (H) 3 - 1 Points- 8
    gwk21 TOT (A) 4 - 0 Points- 0
    gwk22 SUN (H) 2 - 0 Points- 13

Is it just due because of WBA's setup away from home?
And would you consider Everton defense over Brunt this week?
    Thoughts?

    3. MTPockets
      9 years, 5 months ago

Not sure why, but think Brunt's the best value defender - fixtures, lack of blanks only amplify this.
All else equal (ignoring price) reckon I'd still go for Brunt over Baines/Coleman, but not much in it.

(I have McAuley but wish it was Brunt)

    4. HazardAGuess

To be fair, since GW15 West Brom's away fixtures have been rather pants. Southampton the exception, possibly.

I would probably slightly go Everton over WBA defence for the next GW, but I'm likely playing both Brunt and Baines (along with Rose; Alonso on the bench).

    Heaton
    Alonso / Baines / McAuley / 5.9
    Sanchez / Hazard / Eriksen / Phillips
    Kane / Ibrahimovic

    Jakupovic / Pieters / Diamonde / T. Carroll

If you compare Sanchez and Hazards home records against non-top 7 teams Hazard is far more of a flat track bully. There is good reasoning behind it and potentially could really pay off. The huge risk is EOP.

Is he nailed on? If so he fits the description of a good 5th mid which will sit on the bench every week. I would want to make sure he is nailed on though. That for me is the most important quality of a bench midfielder.

Planned trade this week is Holebas>Brunt but don't see how I can fit him in? Don't want to bench Stanislas or anyone else.

    Valdes
    Baines Alonso Jones
    Alli Sanchez Stanislas Eriksen
    Kane Ibra Giroud

Makes me lean towards Baines>Coleman as had planned Coleman all last week but went with Baines. I know people will say that's a terrible trade

I don't like Baines to Coleman. I would probably play Brunt over Jones this week (but I can see why you wouldn't). For the long term Holebas to Brunt is a good trade. I think Brunt is a season keeper for me. I have had him in since the first game he played this season when he had a 0.0% ownership.

How are people affording teams with Sanchez/Hazard/3x big hitting strikers & an elite defender? I have 105.0m TV of which 3.2m ITB but still can't really manage to get Sanchez & Kane in for Firmino & Giroud in team below...

Am about 3m short of being able to do both, so presume you need about 108.0m TV?

    Heaton
    Alonso, Jones, Brunt
    Haz, Firmino, Ali, Phillips
    Ibra, Lukaku, Giroud
    (Robinson, Friend, Holgate, Davies)

    1. Demel
      • 14 Years
      9 years, 5 months ago

I also have Aguero. I picked them all up at low prices and didn't get rid if their form dipped. But my 3rd striker is Defoe and my back 3 is..

      McCauley - Baines - Brunt

      That is how I have..

Eriksen- Sanchez - Hazard - Ibra and Aguero.

    2. Ghost10
      • 9 Years

Think unless you got them all when they were much cheaper and kept for the duration, it would be hard to afford.

My thinking is that 2x big hitting strikers plus Sanchez is essential, with the third striker either rotating, or Defoe, who is a good 2m cheaper than other top strikers and is producing similar returns.

Then in defence, not having a Chelsea or spurs defender also frees up another 1m, if you've gone with baines/Coleman, brunt, daniels, Boro defender.

The third striker is becoming a real problem for me though, none are consistently delivering so I've gone with crouch for now until I've decided on a long term solution. Frees up funds to invest in midfield in the meantime till that happens.
