This afternoon we can reveal the first weekly winner in our free to enter FanDuel social league.

The competition continues for the next three Gameweeks, and with weekly rewards, as well as prizes based on competitors’ best three scores, there is still time to join in.

The current leaderboard can be found here.

Those involved can select their line-ups for the next Gameweek by clicking here. It’s also not too late to get involved, even if you missed out in the first Gameweek, since your top three scores will be used to calculate your final rank.

In the first set of fixtures, which took place in Gameweek 22, Illusions scooped top spot and wins an £25 Amazon voucher with an impressive score of 279.25.

He made savvy use of his £100 million budget by investing in value picks among Everton’s ranks and backing Liverpool’s forgotten ‘false 9’, Roberto Firmino (13.0)

The Brazilian brought in 52 points during the Reds home defeat to Swansea City, thanks to his first brace since Gameweek 4 and three successful tackles.

The Toffees cut-price goalkeeper Joel Robles (6.3), who earned 18.25 points away to Crystal Palace, including 10 for keeping a clean sheet was another star.

The Merseysider’s budget midfielder Tom Davies also did well, racking up a 22.5 point return on the back of a 81.3% pass completion rate, three tackles and two chances.

With no clean sheet points available for defenders, scoring points from the backline is all about targeting assets that can offer clearances, blocks and interceptions (CBI) and tackles. A proven tactic is therefore to target defenders who are likely to be soaking up pressure, or who can supplement their totals with attacking returns.

Illusions got both with his selection of Liverpool left-back James Milner (9.6) who scored 42.5 points from an assist as well as winning six tackles against an unexpectedly lively Swansea forward line.

The strong all-round play of Jordan Henderson (10.9) was also exploited by Illusions. The Reds’ skipper delivered a 23.75 return thanks to three successful tackles, a shot on target, one chance created and an impressive 85.4% pass rate.

His other standout performer was Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez (15.2), who scored a stoppage time penalty to help take his points tally to 43.5. Three shots on target and as many chances created also ensured that he delivered for his hefty price tag.

Joining Illusions in winning a £10 FanDuel credit for having the five best scores are: Bluesxman, Patrick_stewart_swan, Davros101 and Darkish.

Schedule and prizes

As already mentioned there is still plenty of opportunity to win weekly and overall prizes. The competition carries on over Gameweek 23 to Gameweek 25, with the deadline for entries for the second stage set at 7:45pm, Tuesday January 31.

Each Gameweek, the top scoring manager will receive a £25 Amazon voucher and each of the top five highest scorers will get a £10 FanDuel credit.

The overall league score is measured by combining your top three Gameweek scores over the four set of fixtures.

The overall prizes are:

First place – £50 Amazon voucher, £50 FanDuel credit

Second place – £30 Amazon voucher, £30 FanDuel credit

Third place – £20 Amazon voucher, £20 FanDuel credit

Fourth place – £10 FanDuel credit

Fifth – tenth place – £5 FanDuel credit

Joining the League

Existing FanDuel customers, as well as those new to the game, are free to take part, although it is worth noting that this is only available to UK-based customers.

In addition, for new customers that register for the league, FanDuel are giving away a free £5 credit, which can be accessed by using the promo code SCOUTFIVER when signing up via this link.

If you’re building a FanDuel lineup for the first time we recommend taking a look at our strategy guide that examines which players to target in the various positions.

We will also be publishing our Weekly Shop article tomorrow, along with this week’s FanDuel Focus to follow: both articles will help guide your selections for the forthcoming Gameweek.

I feel for the poor bloke who put together the excel doc for the blank game weeks.

All those %s and Spurs losing at home to Wycombe, really can't plan these things too far in advance!
