Gameweek 26 rolls on with an “unfashionable” evening encounter that pairs Watford with West Ham at Vicarage Road.

From a Fantasy perspective, this serves as a scouting mission of the Hammers assets ahead of potential investment for the Gameweek 28 blanks.

Slaven Bilic’s side are just one of eight teams that are currently guaranteed to play over that weekend and, as such, are elevated in our thinking ahead of this encounter.

Andy Carroll is again an absentee as he continues to struggle with a groin complaint, leaving Michail Antonio to lead the attack for the visitors. He’ll be under the microscope, along with Robert Snodgrass who tucks into the number 10 role against the Hornets.

For the home side, Fantasy interest is limited given their forthcoming blank, although promising fixtures to follow has us monitoring the continued form of Troy Deeney and M’Baye Niang.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

The worrying thing about philips is he wasn't even on the bench today.

Chances of being 100% fit between now and next game are very slim in my opinion.

    Concerned Philips owner

Ownership stats for those boring types like me who find this stuff interesting, all based on top 10k pre-GW26 and courtesy of FPL Discovery.

Average ownership of the eight teams definitely playing in GW28 stands at 6.92 players in a 0.99-2.42-2.34-1.16 formation. Of the defenders 0.87 hail from Everton, 0.68 of the midfielders are from Liverpool and Lukaku accounts for 0.76 of the strikers. (This 6.92 figure is an overestimate on where teams stand for GW28 as it does include a lot of non-playing non-blankers, such as Amat/Holgate/Stanislas/Kingsley, discounting those four reduces it to 6.57 players available)

Ten non-blanking players are currently owned by 20%+ of the top 10k consisting of three keepers (Jaku, Heaton & Foster), three defenders (McAuley, Coleman & Baines), three midfielders (Phillips, Mane & Siggy) and one striker (Lukaku). You have go down to 20th on list of most owned players to find the second striker - Rondon at 8.98%.

Regarding the possible DGW27, the average XV has 0.68 Stoke players while Man City’s representation has dropped to 0.25 players (from 0.47 before GW25) making only Leicester and Southampton less owned teams. In fact Stoke’s keeper Lee Grant has higher ownership at 25.7% than the whole Man City squad put together, Pieters, Allen and Crouch all have ownership of 10%+ with only Sterling (12.1%) of City surpassing 5%.

Aguero currently lies in only 0.86% of the top 10k, sandwiched between Shawcross and Adam for popularity. Not surprising City defensive assets are a rare choice; City’s keepers are the least owned in the league (0.39%) and among defenders (5.76%) only Leicester and West Ham defenders are rarer choices.

Thank you; reassuring information as I currently have 7 GW28:

        Heaton, Coleman, McAuley, Smith
        Mane, Lallana
        Lukaku

Hope to have another 2 Siggy and a striker Llorente/Carroll; dependent on fitness and form.

Will take a 4 point hit for Agüero if GW27 is a double and already have Grant & Allen

Thanks, man. I always find these kind of summaries fascinating - the lack of MCI ownership among the top teams is particularly eye-opening.

It's even difficult to see too many DGW City options, at least beyond picking up one of (or perhaps both of) Sterling & Kun.

          • 11 Years
          9 years, 1 month ago

Yes the low Man City ownership was the most surprising thing, the injury to Jesus who was fairly well owned and the blank have caused it to fall considerable since the last GW. It does offer a massive opportunity if Man City get the DGW and you choose the right players ofc.

The Brunt Assist-gate is another case of having too much information than is required. Mark has pointed out that any goal not assigned an assist is automatically put under review by the Match Centre and has been the case for a few seasons. Obviously this process could be done quietly and behind the scenes and as fans ourselves we can review the incident ourselves and if an assist should be given and is added then that's fine.
What I find annoying is the OfficialFPL twitter feed tweeting; "The ASSIST is currently under review – Brunt's corner took several ricochets before falling to McAuley #WBABOU #FPL"

Personally I think its just a case of any publicity is good publicity exercise, like when newspapers/TV etc. create an 'non issue' just to get people talking.

Sadly this in a way confirms the, shall we say, corruption of whoever makes the decisions on this. 'Several' is a clear exaggeration which demonstrates the bias of whoever penned the tweet. There were two touches at most- this does not qualify as 'several'.

You can't link that tweet to the decision - the tweet was just informing about the review.

The review and decision is made by Opta using the criteria for the Fantasy assist. They didn't reward it initially, they reviewed it later and still didn't reward it because it deflected off two different Bournemouth players. That means it can't awarded as part of the criteria that Opta work to.

            That's it. No conspiracy.

For the record I dont believe it was an assist, and you can check my posts I submitted after the game if you don't believe me. But I'm sure you do believe me, as I'm honest. I don't have a problem with the 'assist' - it's just the tweet, and in particular the wording of it, imply spectacular bias. And that is difficult to argue against.

Surely it explains why the assist wasn't initially given by Opta - because the cross didn't arrive at McAuley cleanly? It's not a judgment on whether it's an assist or not.

                  • 16 Years

it would have played out better if the tweet had stated that the ball came off Boruc's fist and then X's back, and therefore wasn't given to Brunt - then I think people have reason to accept the decision. The exaggerated 'Several ricochets (but we can't be bothered to explain further)' does not show impartiality.

Phillips -> King? Wanted him anyway and Phillips has not gone well. Any reason not to?

Ha nice. I think I'm going to do it now - King will outscore him anyway imo. The fact Phillips might play in 28 is the only thing putting me off..

Planning the GW28 has been magnificent.... from potential 8 players, i will enter in gw28 with just 6 players and if they don't get injured meanwhile.

I'd be lying if I didn't say I hadn't got one eye on it, but players like Coleman, Lukaku, Siggy and latest recruit Mane were/are in form and bring home the points many GWs before GW28.

Point I'm tying to make is its best to strike a balance between the short-term and the long term. The season doesn't finish on GW28, it goes beyond that, no point littering it with crap you don't want to take forward.

Shocking week for me. I have 2FT and the EXACT money for these transfers:

          Costa+Alli+Phillips > Kun+Sterling+Siggy

Do I take the risk and pull the early trigger?

For those wanting to sell Kane over Ibra for Aguero, what does Kane need to score this GW for that plan to change?

If he scores a couple he will stay. Everton at home is decent. Double figure haul probably enough to bring in doubt. Depends who you want after 28

UPDATE There remains no assist for WBA's 2nd goal. The cross by Brunt was deflected by two Bournemouth players, thus ruling out the assist

Looks like a low scoring GW despite some popular players getting attacking returns. Lukaku captained by almost half the Top10k. 46% of top10k started McAuley, 34% Coleman, 42% Hazard, 24% Siggy, 76% Lukaku.
