This is getting to be a habit for Romelu Lukaku.

With a legion of more than 627,000 FPL managers tentatively trusting him with the Gameweek 26 captaincy, he muscled his way to Everton’s second goal to repay the faith and bolster his heavy-hitter CV once again.

While we perhaps had visions of another Bournemouth-style bumper return against a hapless Sunderland defence, Lukaku’s backers will gladly accept a seventh strike from his last four Goodison Park encounters, providing further evidence that this may just be an asset we can trust with the armband.

He was almost handed it by default on this occasion. With both Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexis Sanchez closed off as options, the support for Lukaku was somewhat forced.

Diego Costa provided the main alternative and, while he proved his reliability with yet another goal, he remains a slow drip to Lukaku’s gushing tap – a player that will feed us regular points without promising to excite.

Having blanked in four of his last nine Gameweek starts, it offered reassurance that the Costa consistency was still there. However, he missed out on bonus points once again and has yet to score more than 9 points at Stamford Bridge all season; explosivity is just not on the menu with Costa – in more ways than one.

Ironically, he could now give way to Sergio Aguero in many squads – a player renowned for one-off hauls that can better even Lukaku’s Bournemouth effort – should Manchester City’s double Gameweek 27 be confirmed.

Elsewhere today, West Brom’s Chris Brunt again missed out on a potential assist. Denied in Gameweek 25 by the top of Gareth McAuley’s head that deflected Jonny Evan’s initial effort, today Brunt’s corner led to the scrappiest of goals – with McAuley again the benefactor.

Two weeks to the day, the Knee Jerk remarked on how McAuley was a charmed asset, a player who almost bought about his own luck by being an alert and significant physical presence in the box.

And so it came to fruition again today.

Brunt’s delivery was met with a feeble punch by Bournemouth’s Artur Boruc, span off what appeared to be Steve Cook’s back, before arriving for the gleeful McAuley to convert. The two touches from two Cherries players, cancelling out Brunt’s contribution.

Fortune again the provider for McAuley, while denying another delivery from Brunt it’s reward.

Brunt appears to have developed his own unwanted habit, and it’s a far nastier one than Lukaku’s.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Foster/pick
    Walker/Alonso/FMori/ Pieters/Amat

I'm tempted to sacrifice Siggy in GW28 to keep Alli for after the blanks. It would also allow me to have Kun rather Sterling as DGW coverage.

I'm going to ditch Eriksen for GW27 & 28, retaining Walker and Kane.

He'll be back afterwards as Spurs do have a nice run in.

Baggies on the other hand have horrendous fixtures. It may finally be time to ditch McAuley 🙁

Seen it mentioned on that ...

Aguero ownership at 19% (maybe quite a few dead teams)
Sanchez at 29% (maybe more live teams)

TC Aguero is bit of a differential and likely to give you more of a boost up the league - all things being equal

    Any truth in this ?

i'm hoping no TGW for Sanchez, i.e 2 DGWs & i'll TC in the weaker DGW (weaker meaning less teams having a DGW). Then WC & BB for the big DGW

Im getting Aguero (kept 7mil itb so no hit) but I fear Pep's rotation tbh & feel it's a massive gamble TCing this week

            Same dilemma here.

Kept my money from Sanchez sale last week so have the funds to bring in Aguero for one week, then sell and work Sanchez back in.

... but Sanchez could be injured in the future DGWs - Aguero is fit and raring to go. 'A bird in the hand' maybe with Kun ... ?

I reckon there's about 15% of teams dead. Coutinho and Aguerro never really dropped below this figure when they were injured/suspended.
Vardy and Mahrez on about 8/9% also so they're definetly all dead teams.

Really ? Eased back off the bench just twice after injury and suspension, otherwise 100% selected ?

Aguero has played all but 3 minutes of the 3 games since and including Jesus injury, over 3 different competitions ... doesn't look like much rotation to me, but agreed you never know with Pep

Cost them a lot of money, with him getting himself on the score sheet could be pushing for a start. I think it depends on their system but I'm not a hammers fan so I don't know how they play. Wasn't Antonio up front Saturday? Well they need someone to take up that position now he's suspended.

    1. Jay_
        9 years, 1 month ago

I'm no expert but if Cup ties go in way of favourites my esitimate is this:

MIDDLESBROUGH will have a dgw34 (bou, SUN)

The other depends on Chelsea-United tie:

If Chelsea win: UNITED double (bur, sot)

If United win: CHELSEA double (WAT, SOT)
If United win: WATFORD double (hul, che)

Where I become confused is, what happens with United and Southamptons earlier gw26 games (United v City) and (Saints v Arsenal) have a feeling that those will be the sucker punch games just randomly chucked in a week before. By way of planning, I think United winning at the Bridge in FA cup would be nice, as it would give us a CHELSEA and WATFORD dgw34.

That's all I know, not really answered your question, (would love to know that myself) but hope it's of some help.

      What is your 'hit' mentality?

I like to think taking hits not in terms of -4 or -8 but divide them over the total transfers of the week.

Say I make 3 transfers for a -4, I look at it being -1.3 points per player and not -4 for a single trade.

What are people's thoughts on changing the way you see taking hits?

Same predicament here. Have a look at my comment above.

Look at it as them both starting the gameweek on -2 each.

        I say it's worth it.

Sterling would need to be for a player without a game in GW28 IMO.

I agree and within GW27 the Spurs players are playing against Coleman and Baines who I have in my team. It's between Eriksen and Alli

Would you prefer an extra player in GW27, that hasn't got a decent fixture for 4 weeks, or Eriksen and Alli fixtures after the blanks.

Factor in Spurs mid v Coleman and Baines in GW27, and it 50/50 IMO

I think the "x is playing y, and they're both in my team" dilemma is often the home of slightly wonky logic...

In this case, it will be annoying if you have Baines, Coleman & Alli/Eriksen in your side, and one of the Spurs guys scores..but it will be more annoying if they score after you've sold them.

Although their levels of success that week are clearly linked, and it makes it harder for them all to get points for you, whether or not they're in your team has no impact on their individual likelihood of getting points.

My front 8 for this GW:

      Eriksen - Alli - Phillips - Sanchez - Siggy

      Barnes - Ibra - Lukaku

What transfers should I be doing in case of City qualifying for DGW?

Sterling and Sane or Aguero and Sane? Or one amongst these three and another Liverpool asset?

      Please help.

      Heaton,foster
      Baines Alonso walker Robertson Kingsley
      Eriksen, Barkley, siggy,philips, mane
      Lukaku, costa, Carroll.
      1 FT, 2.0M ITB
What transfers do you guys suggest for next week?
I was thinking of costa and eriksen to sterling and aguero with minus 4 hit. Is this transfer good for gw 28? Thx for input.

Strongly considering only Pedro as my Chelsea attacking cover from gw29 onwards!
      In the last 6 games,
      Pedro has 39 points
Costa has 22 points (last 5 games)
      Hazard has 32 points

Although, Pedro gets subbed off early and there's a slight chance he might get rotated with Willian out there, but he cannot be ignored for that price tag and it;s basically you get what you pay for and worth investing the risk.

With so many options from different teams out there, having a front line with Ibra-Kane-Costa-Lukaku is too expensive. Also Hazard isnt justifying his price tag IMO. With Ibra and Lukaku providing similar or better returns than Costa and with better optons in midfield than Hazard, I feel Pedro is the perfect option to go to from Chelsea's attack. He is not only consisten, but also explosive and cheap.

PS: There are just my thoughts cuz fitting in Ibra, Kane, Spurs mid, Coleman, Lukaku, a Liv mid, City cover, Chelsea def, Chelsea attacker all in a team is difficult and I feel Pedro helps cut down that to some extent.

      Thoughts?

      GW27

Save a transfer and triple captain Kun

      Grant
      Brunt - McCauley - Coleman
      Siggy - Firminio - Phillips - Eriksen - Hazard
      Lukaku - Kun TC

      Jak - Defoe - Baines - Amat

      GW28

      2 FT Eriksen & Hazard > Coutinho & Mane

      Jak
      Baines - Coleman - Brunt - McCauley
      Siggy - Phillips - Mane - Coutinho - Firminio
      Lukaku

      GW29 Wildcard

      How does this sound?
