Wednesday night’s 5-1 rout of Huddersfield Town booked Manchester City’s place in the FA Cup quarter-finals and created this season’s first double Gameweek.

With a trip to Sunderland and home tie against Stoke City falling in Gameweek 27, Pep Guardiola’s troops will inevitably dominate our transfer activity and latest Captain Poll.

Sergio Aguero (12.7) will surely be the favourite for the summit after a brace against The Terriers brought his tally to four over the last two matches.

With no competition from the injured Gabriel Jesus and high praise from his manager after last night’s display, our rotation fears surrounding the marksman have been somewhat dampened. Aguero has gained more than 39,000 new owners in just the last 24 hours, with an overnight price rise seemingly inevitable.

Aguero’s captaincy credentials are boosted further by the fragility of the Stoke and Sunderland defences.

No side has conceded more shots in the box than the Black Cats over the last four matches and only Swansea City have been breached more often at home.

After shipping four away to Spurs, the Potters’ visit to the Etihad looks another mouth-watering prospect for City’s attack.

Indeed, the Gameweek 27 profit could be spread far and wide, ensuring that Aguero has rivals for the armband within the City ranks.

Raheem Sterling (7.8) and Leroy Sane (7.5), who have been Guardiola’s preferred wing partnership over the last four league matches, both present strong CV’s for the captaincy role.

Sterling may only boast a single double-digit haul over his last 20 outings, but the wide man has been a beacon of consistency, with attacking returns in eight of the last ten Gameweeks.

Sane is also a man in form, having notched a goal and two assists in his last four league outings and claiming the opener in Wednesday’s win.
So far, 10,000+ FPL managers have drafted in Sane in the last 24 hours, with over 30,000 falling for Sterling’s charms.

As the designated penalty taker for City, Yaya Toure (7.3) has also been added to the poll as an option; a mere 1.1% of FPL managers currently own the Ivorian.

Toure was rested for last night’s encounter and it remains to be seen if Guardiola considers him for the back-to-back Gameweek 27 fixtures. The midfielder’s absence would, presumably, bolster Aguero’s appeal as he assumes duties from the spot.

We perhaps shouldn’t ignore Stoke City as a factor in the Gameweek 27 picture. A home tie with Middlesbrough should attract some attention for their assets, while Mark Hughes will feel that his side can trouble an erratic City defence that again conceded in Wednesday’s tie.

Stoke’s immediate opponents Middlesbrough have lost three of their last four away league fixtures, which makes Potters midfielders Joe Allen (5.1) and 0.9% owned Marko Arnautovic (7.1) intriguing differential options for the armband.

No Stoke player has had more shots on target than Arnautovic over their last four league encounters, while Allen’s six goals make him their top scorer this term.

Peter Crouch (4.9) and Saido Berahino (6.0) are other Potters options, but their prospects are hindered by the possibility that they will likely be vying for just one striker position.

We have also included a series of options for consideration among players with just a single match in Gameweek 27.

Certainly, Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.5) will be the big hope for those refusing to invest in Aguero and his City team-mates.

Ibrahimovic has delivered at least a goal or an assist in eight of his last ten Gameweeks and takes on a Bournemouth side at Old Trafford that has conceded 17 goals over their last six outings, more than any other side.

Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini (6.7) is another striker in form.

He has fired five goals in three matches since joining the St Mary’s ranks from Napoli in January. A visit to Watford offers the Italian a platform to maintain such form: the Hornets have kept just a single clean sheet in their last six league Gameweeks.

Swansea City’s protagonist Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.6) is also included, with opponents Burnley continuing to toil on the road ahead of their visit to the Liberty Stadium. Sigurdsson’s assist against Chelsea last weekend means he has delivered attacking returns in six of his seven starts under head coach Paul Clement.

The Captain Poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll on Friday when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Would need Sterling or Sane to do something in both games.

    A. Costa Hazard > Aguero Sterling (-4)
    B. Costa Hazard Alli > Aguero Sterling Sané (-8)

    C. Lukaku Hazard > Aguero Sané (-4)
    D. Lukaku Hazard Alli > Aguero Sterling Sané (-8)

C or D means keep Costa for whu...but a little reluctant to move Kak as only have six 28ers at the mo... looking to bring in Sigurdsson next week for FT, and planning to double Kane/Eriksen going forwards hence consideration of Alli for premature chop.
    Thoughts appreciated. Cheers.

Do Lukaku or Kane to Kun for a hit??

    ①Lukaku → Kun
Then should get Lukaku back for GW28, and leaves me 10 players can play at GW28

    ②Kane → Kun
and use ft do Chambers to Robertson that can give me 11 players can play at GW28. Which the team like this for GW28:
    Jakupovic
    McAuley Baines Mawson Robertson
    Siggy Mane Coutinho Phillips*
    Lukaku Diomande

The worry is that 75% of people will probably (c) Lukaku vs Hull so if he gets a couple, you'll be in big trouble without him. The rest will probably (c) a Liverpool mid.

Everton face WBA, not Hull. But yeah I would regardless have Kaku/get him in. Question is if it is worth an extra transfer in order to keep Kane this GW. Aguero will regardless be taken out from my team, either for Kaku in GW28 or Kane in GW29

I'm definitely using TC on Aguero, partly because I took a -8 hit and also because he has done the following against Sun/Stoke:

Last 3 apps vs Sunderland; Goals - 3 (1 was penalty)
Last 3 apps vs Stoke; Goals - 5 goals (3 of which were pen's)

It's a possibility. I get the feeling it was his decision to let Yaya take pens because he wasn't confident doing it. If his confidence is back and he wants them I wouldn't be surprised if he took them back.

I'm having 7 players... I'm not ripping my team apart and losing money in the process (walker, alonso, eriksen) just so I can field a full 11 of shitty FPL players. Then what about GW29? How many hits to get your assets back in..... do the maths mate and think of the bigger picture.

          Afternoon all.
To fund Kun, would you do:
          A. Azpi and Alli to Stones and Sterling
          B. Mane and Alli to Sane and Sterling?

B but can't you just take out Alli?

Aguero already at 74% on the captains poll 😆

Guess I'm getting him in then.....

He should be 100%, can anyone make a valid argument against having him as captain if they owned him?

          What's this news about Kane?

Do we think he will make it vs Everton?

Isn't there still a possibility Manu / Ibra will have a triple GW? i.e. a Triple Triple captain. Think this would keep me away from Aguero this week for TC

Would require them to beat Chelsea in the cup and a few other factors though right?

Yes - but likely to be GW37 where everyone will use wildcards etc.

City fixture analysis (mainly for my own benefit, but thought I'd post it here). Let me know if you have any thoughts!

          1) March 5: Sunderland (a) [PL]
          2) March 8: Stoke (h) [PL]
          3) March 11: Middlesbrough (a) [FA Cup]
          4) March 15: Monaco (a) [CL]
          5) March 19: Liverpool (h) [PL]

This is important for the question of the TC. How will Guardiola manage the team over this set of fixtures?

          1) First team against Sunderland - no reason for rotation. Expect attackers to be substituted, perhaps early, for the next game.

          2) Some rotation against Stoke - only three days after the previous match, and if City want to win the FA Cup fixture, they will probably have to play at least some of the first team players.

          3) Weakened team against Middlesbrough - the Champions League match against Monaco will be prioritized, so heavy rotation can be expected.

          4) First team against Monaco - City have a decent chance of going through but Monaco are a good team, so the first team will be needed.

          5) Some rotation against Liverpool - important match so most of the first team will play again, but some changes in the attacking line-up seem likely.

Aguero, Sterling and Sané are the best options from the City team.

Aguero: Iheanacho would seem to present the only alternative unless Sterling is used as a false nine. A starting place in matches 1, 2, 4 and 5 seems likely, although expect him to be substituted if City are winning.

Sterling: has played virtually every match he has been available this season. I would guess that he will play in matches 1, 2, 4 and 5. Might be substituted in matches 1, 2 and 5. It is possible he might be rested for match 2, but based on the pattern of the season so far this seems unlikely.

Sané: City have other wingers (Nolito, Navas), and Sané is probably not as favoured as Sterling. If Guardiola does take the FA Cup match at all seriously, Sané could be a candidate for rotation in match 2. So he might start matches 1, 3, 4 and 5, for example.

          Summary:

          - Aguero and Sterling are more secure options than Sané
          - Aguero and Sterling should start both matches in the DGW
          - If this is the case, both could be substituted early against Sunderland
          - If both are rested for the FA Cup match, they might well be given 90 minutes against Stoke
          - At least 150 minutes for both Aguero and Sterling in the DGW seems likely
