Wednesday night’s 5-1 rout of Huddersfield Town booked Manchester City’s place in the FA Cup quarter-finals and created this season’s first double Gameweek.

With a trip to Sunderland and home tie against Stoke City falling in Gameweek 27, Pep Guardiola’s troops will inevitably dominate our transfer activity and latest Captain Poll.

Sergio Aguero (12.7) will surely be the favourite for the summit after a brace against The Terriers brought his tally to four over the last two matches.

With no competition from the injured Gabriel Jesus and high praise from his manager after last night’s display, our rotation fears surrounding the marksman have been somewhat dampened. Aguero has gained more than 39,000 new owners in just the last 24 hours, with an overnight price rise seemingly inevitable.

Aguero’s captaincy credentials are boosted further by the fragility of the Stoke and Sunderland defences.

No side has conceded more shots in the box than the Black Cats over the last four matches and only Swansea City have been breached more often at home.

After shipping four away to Spurs, the Potters’ visit to the Etihad looks another mouth-watering prospect for City’s attack.

Indeed, the Gameweek 27 profit could be spread far and wide, ensuring that Aguero has rivals for the armband within the City ranks.

Raheem Sterling (7.8) and Leroy Sane (7.5), who have been Guardiola’s preferred wing partnership over the last four league matches, both present strong CV’s for the captaincy role.

Sterling may only boast a single double-digit haul over his last 20 outings, but the wide man has been a beacon of consistency, with attacking returns in eight of the last ten Gameweeks.

Sane is also a man in form, having notched a goal and two assists in his last four league outings and claiming the opener in Wednesday’s win.
So far, 10,000+ FPL managers have drafted in Sane in the last 24 hours, with over 30,000 falling for Sterling’s charms.

As the designated penalty taker for City, Yaya Toure (7.3) has also been added to the poll as an option; a mere 1.1% of FPL managers currently own the Ivorian.

Toure was rested for last night’s encounter and it remains to be seen if Guardiola considers him for the back-to-back Gameweek 27 fixtures. The midfielder’s absence would, presumably, bolster Aguero’s appeal as he assumes duties from the spot.

We perhaps shouldn’t ignore Stoke City as a factor in the Gameweek 27 picture. A home tie with Middlesbrough should attract some attention for their assets, while Mark Hughes will feel that his side can trouble an erratic City defence that again conceded in Wednesday’s tie.

Stoke’s immediate opponents Middlesbrough have lost three of their last four away league fixtures, which makes Potters midfielders Joe Allen (5.1) and 0.9% owned Marko Arnautovic (7.1) intriguing differential options for the armband.

No Stoke player has had more shots on target than Arnautovic over their last four league encounters, while Allen’s six goals make him their top scorer this term.

Peter Crouch (4.9) and Saido Berahino (6.0) are other Potters options, but their prospects are hindered by the possibility that they will likely be vying for just one striker position.

We have also included a series of options for consideration among players with just a single match in Gameweek 27.

Certainly, Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.5) will be the big hope for those refusing to invest in Aguero and his City team-mates.

Ibrahimovic has delivered at least a goal or an assist in eight of his last ten Gameweeks and takes on a Bournemouth side at Old Trafford that has conceded 17 goals over their last six outings, more than any other side.

Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini (6.7) is another striker in form.

He has fired five goals in three matches since joining the St Mary’s ranks from Napoli in January. A visit to Watford offers the Italian a platform to maintain such form: the Hornets have kept just a single clean sheet in their last six league Gameweeks.

Swansea City’s protagonist Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.6) is also included, with opponents Burnley continuing to toil on the road ahead of their visit to the Liberty Stadium. Sigurdsson’s assist against Chelsea last weekend means he has delivered attacking returns in six of his seven starts under head coach Paul Clement.

The Captain Poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll on Friday when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Can I just check in case I'm being slow....
Man City have a double GW this week (27), but have a blank GW 28.

Thanks folks. Just raises an interesting dynamic I think ...

ie unless you plan to transfer augero in for GW 27 and out for GW 28 ...
... then surely augero double fixtures are in essence the same as some one else who has same good fixtures but across 27 and 28

      Thoughts ??

    Jaku,
    Baines, Alonso, Brunt
    Siggs, Mane, Alli, Zaha,
    Lukaku, Kane, Costa

    Heaton, de Roon, Ake, Kingsley

    Lukaku + Alli > Sterling + Aguero -4
    Costa + Alli > Sterling + Aguero -4

    GW28 – Sterling + Zaha > Coutinho + King/Snodgrass -4

Trouble is it just leaves you with one less transfer for GW28.

If I do Lukaku > Aguero > Lukaku and hit -4 for GW28 it'll only leave me with 7 players.

I still have Jesus! So do

GW27: Jesus, Lukaku, Eriksen > Kun, Sterling, Llorente (-8)

So - Aguero started an easy home game last night, along with most of the first team, in the cup. It's safe to say that Pep is taking the cup seriously, as other team selections have suggested, and so will probably play the first 11 against Middlesborough including Aguero. It's also safe to say that Aguero will play against Monaco after his performance, and because of their high line which suits his style.

Will he then play both league games? Especially with a game against Liverpool on the horizon? That's alot of starts for a player who has been rested and dropped this season, and with a history of injury problems. Tough games in the league that follow make any rest in the interim very unlikely. Middlesborough away or Stoke at home seem the best bets.

      What do we think?

      1. TheTinman
        • 10 Years

He will play min of 60 mins in both games.

Will go off if they are ahead, which should mean he has already done the damage.

Got to be the cup game before CL. No way he values it above CL and would risk his star players before Monaco. Id say the only possibility he starts Boro is if he is benched against Monaco in favor of false 9.

The same as when Kane played both games against Gent and the FA cup fixture. He is a striker without competition. I don't think he will start any of the games on the bench, but might get subbed off early.

Don't think anyone except Pep knows. I think there will be rotation across the front three so that Nolito, Navas, Aguero, Sterling and Sane all play at least two games of the next 5. Hopefully Aguero gets rotated for Middlesbrough though and not Stoke / Sunderland.

My concern is about how much Pep wants a cup I suppose, with Middlesborough away probably a harder fixture than Stoke at home.

Aguero is a rotation risk - this season has proved that consistently. There have been a couple of games where him being dropped was nonsensical, and where him not being brought on earlier off the bench was too.

It's not a case for me of not owning him, because I will own him out of fear, but whether I should consider a TC on a player at risk of rotation (and injury prone of course). It would have been a definite yes in previous season, but this season Aguero has been dropped several times, is not the first choice Pen taker, and only has 11 league goals.

I think he played last night to get some minutes under his belt and to boost his confidence after Pep dropped him.

I can't believe for a second he won't play against Monaco; so I reckon he gets benched against Boro and starts both league games. Might not finish them, but by that time one expects the damage will already be done.

        Good plan? Yes / no?

        GW27 = Eriksen+Lukaku > Kun+J. King

        Heaton
        Alonso - Walker - Coleman - Pieters(x2)
        J. King - Mane - Siggy
        Kane - Kun(C)(x2) - Zlatan
        (Jaku - Phillips - Evans - Capoue)

        GW28 = Kun/Kane/Ibra > Lukaku

        Jaku
        Coleman Evans
        Mane Phillips Siggy J. King
        Lukaku

Think I'm happy with that 🙂

Do you seriously think this was not a excuse to miss this circus before a very important PL fixture?

I saw him hitting the post. He may have some knock. Should be flagged like any others with similar news.

        Foster (Pickford)
Alonso - Coleman - Pieters (Lovren - Amat)
Siggy - Firminho - Mane - Sterling (Fletcher)
        Augero (c) - Crouch - Ibrahimovic

If I do Alli & Lukaku --> Aguero & Sterling I can afford the above with 1m in the bank.. Should I pull the trigger???

Leaves me with 4 DGW players and 7 players for next week before I drop Aguero for Lukaku again..

Kun and Sterling probably rising next night. Lukaku dropping.
Have to do today Kun and Sterling for Lukaku and Eriksen and save extra 0.3, Right?

Lukaku or Kane to Kun for a hit???

If do Kaku to Kun then should bring bim back for GW28 use ft.

If Kane to Kun then can use ft to bring one more player that can play GW28,then it can give me 11 players at GW28 with Phillips*(questionable) and benchwarmer Diomande.

Just realised I can do a direct swap between Ibra and Aguero for free. Leaves no cash so I need to do it today. Otherwise I take hits to do Costa and Cahill out....

          Coleman Mori Evans
          Mane Coutinho Phillips Siggy

Did get an overwhelming response previously, so will try again:

          A. -8, Costa, Sane (x2)
          B. -4, Lukaku, Alli plus additional 28 player (Antonio or Siggy)

          Which one would you choose?

TC'ing Kun at the first DGW feels like Captaining a player in the early kick-off.

              Thoughts?

              A) *Ibra > Aguero
              B) *Ibra Eriksen > Aguero Sterling (-4)
              C) **Lukaku Eriksen > Aguero Sterling (-4)

*Bought Ibra for his current price ages ago
**Bought Lukaku at 9.4 so would sell him for 9.7 now, and would cost me 10.0 to buy back for GW28
