Wednesday night’s 5-1 rout of Huddersfield Town booked Manchester City’s place in the FA Cup quarter-finals and created this season’s first double Gameweek.

With a trip to Sunderland and home tie against Stoke City falling in Gameweek 27, Pep Guardiola’s troops will inevitably dominate our transfer activity and latest Captain Poll.

Sergio Aguero (12.7) will surely be the favourite for the summit after a brace against The Terriers brought his tally to four over the last two matches.

With no competition from the injured Gabriel Jesus and high praise from his manager after last night’s display, our rotation fears surrounding the marksman have been somewhat dampened. Aguero has gained more than 39,000 new owners in just the last 24 hours, with an overnight price rise seemingly inevitable.

Aguero’s captaincy credentials are boosted further by the fragility of the Stoke and Sunderland defences.

No side has conceded more shots in the box than the Black Cats over the last four matches and only Swansea City have been breached more often at home.

After shipping four away to Spurs, the Potters’ visit to the Etihad looks another mouth-watering prospect for City’s attack.

Indeed, the Gameweek 27 profit could be spread far and wide, ensuring that Aguero has rivals for the armband within the City ranks.

Raheem Sterling (7.8) and Leroy Sane (7.5), who have been Guardiola’s preferred wing partnership over the last four league matches, both present strong CV’s for the captaincy role.

Sterling may only boast a single double-digit haul over his last 20 outings, but the wide man has been a beacon of consistency, with attacking returns in eight of the last ten Gameweeks.

Sane is also a man in form, having notched a goal and two assists in his last four league outings and claiming the opener in Wednesday’s win.
So far, 10,000+ FPL managers have drafted in Sane in the last 24 hours, with over 30,000 falling for Sterling’s charms.

As the designated penalty taker for City, Yaya Toure (7.3) has also been added to the poll as an option; a mere 1.1% of FPL managers currently own the Ivorian.

Toure was rested for last night’s encounter and it remains to be seen if Guardiola considers him for the back-to-back Gameweek 27 fixtures. The midfielder’s absence would, presumably, bolster Aguero’s appeal as he assumes duties from the spot.

We perhaps shouldn’t ignore Stoke City as a factor in the Gameweek 27 picture. A home tie with Middlesbrough should attract some attention for their assets, while Mark Hughes will feel that his side can trouble an erratic City defence that again conceded in Wednesday’s tie.

Stoke’s immediate opponents Middlesbrough have lost three of their last four away league fixtures, which makes Potters midfielders Joe Allen (5.1) and 0.9% owned Marko Arnautovic (7.1) intriguing differential options for the armband.

No Stoke player has had more shots on target than Arnautovic over their last four league encounters, while Allen’s six goals make him their top scorer this term.

Peter Crouch (4.9) and Saido Berahino (6.0) are other Potters options, but their prospects are hindered by the possibility that they will likely be vying for just one striker position.

We have also included a series of options for consideration among players with just a single match in Gameweek 27.

Certainly, Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.5) will be the big hope for those refusing to invest in Aguero and his City team-mates.

Ibrahimovic has delivered at least a goal or an assist in eight of his last ten Gameweeks and takes on a Bournemouth side at Old Trafford that has conceded 17 goals over their last six outings, more than any other side.

Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini (6.7) is another striker in form.

He has fired five goals in three matches since joining the St Mary’s ranks from Napoli in January. A visit to Watford offers the Italian a platform to maintain such form: the Hornets have kept just a single clean sheet in their last six league Gameweeks.

Swansea City’s protagonist Gylfi Sigurdsson (7.6) is also included, with opponents Burnley continuing to toil on the road ahead of their visit to the Liberty Stadium. Sigurdsson’s assist against Chelsea last weekend means he has delivered attacking returns in six of his seven starts under head coach Paul Clement.

The Captain Poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll on Friday when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    My team in
    Heaton Jaku
    Baines Brunt Alonso Friend Amat
Mane Eriksen Siggy Phillips De Roon
    Costa Kane Lukaku

    I'm thinking of Costa->Kun
    Eriksen->Sane
    Phillips->Sterling for a -8?

Too overkill? Do only two of them?

I did similar but I went for King over Sane as he plays next week. I assume you have to do the Eriksen out move to give you the cash for Phillips to Sterling?

    Hey guys!

How's the season going? Are you hanging on? Been completely underwhelming here. I've been hovering around 50k-100k for the entire season... really struggling to gain any traction. 77k now and hoping to kick on with the DGWs. Top 10k is still in sight I reckon.

Haven't been on much, just haven't spent as much time as the past seasons. Lacking match fitness...!

Finally a proper epic dilemma this GW I feel. To use triple captain chip or not?! Pep has me feeling all twitchy... but with Jesus out and fixtures smiling I feel it might be as good as bet as any to pull the trigger.

I don't feel like getting any more City players than Aguero. I have Ibra and Kane 1FT, doing Kane -> Aguero tonight. Should be able to field 11 in GW28 without hits.

Top 100k is always a good place to be, I've done my normal, hovered around 300k for the first half of the season and now started moving up through the top 100k.
You are incredibly well set up if you have 11 next week, that should give you a big advantage.
As for triple captain it's down to personal preference but I think the majority of people on here will do it.

      1. Dogba
        • 13 Years
        9 years, 7 days ago

Yeah, I was aiming slightly higher, but I'm not too miffed if I can end it within 100k either.

Really, I thought most would have 11 next GW? I took two hits last GW though... hopefully can get away without any this GW and next.

Yeah, I get the same feeling, majority leaning towards yay... me too.

So did I but all I read is comments saying that 8 will be enough.
Good news for those with 11!
I took a -12 this week but it's set me up well so I'm happy.
I always aim for the top 1% so anywhere in top 40k will do.

Currently top 35k and top (just) in 2 money leagues but its so tight so big decisions to be made, will be bringing in Aguero but just C for me to minimise damage of TC, i'm opting to save that for Kane/Sanchez!

I was top 800 after 8 weeks but have steadily slipped down the ranks, so many points to be gained by playin the DGW and Bench Boost right, i think my success or failure will come down to this.

Hazard to De Bruyne for me, at 7.5% owned a solid differential as everyone chases Kun/Sterling. Gives a route back to Sanchez from game week 29 with the money in the bank I have left over. Bringing Sane in i'm going to spend my ITB and complicates things getting Sanchez back!

I'd do the top one and one of the others, City players for the GW28 blank and the three fixtures that follow isn't ideal.

Costa to Aguero (C or TC)
Alli to Sterling, then Sterling to Siggy for GW28.

I really haven't planned my lineup well until now. Just realised I'll be playing a 1-3-1 formation in GW28 as it stands (w/ no GK)

Doesn't seem worth using a wildcard to stock up on players from the teams that are in fact playing that week though.

Lukaku to Aguero, and Alli to Sigurdsson for -4 pts, sound sensible?

You don't have to have rubbish players though, you could quite easily wildcard and have 10 good players with a fixture in 28.

      My team will be
      Randolph
      Baines, Coleman, Brunt, McAuley
      Mane, Firminho, Siggy, King
      Lukaku, Carroll

      (Grant, T.Carroll, Ibra, Alonso)

Possibly the most obvious captain poll ever

For those not captaining Aguero (assume all non owners) - why? What possible justification do you have for ignoring him? Who do you think will cover those points?

    Genuine question.

    1. Dogba
      • 13 Years
      9 years, 7 days ago

Gotta be Ibra. Man's on fire and has a good fixture.

If you don't captain Aguero you believe he gets rotated or you don't buy to save a hit (or two).

he'll cover the hits with his armband just by stepping on the pitch

if you don't have him you're either

        a) just trolling the game and praying for an injury/rest/improbable zero goal involvement
        b) absolutely mad
        c) both

The only way to justify it is that you are going to bet against him which is a massive risk but could also reap a massive reward

      Joe Allen

requires too much work to get him just for this game week, mini league managers are casuals who I don't think will do the necessary switches to bring him in for a Double. At a point where mini league is the main focus due to being close to the top and the prizes on offer are worth the focus!

Do Sane, Sterling & -4 outscore Hazard and Alli? If Phillips is ruled out for 28 then him and Hazard will make way...

    What to do here?
    a) Costa to Kun for free
    b) Benteke and Alli to Kun and Sterl -4.
    c) Costa and Philips to Kun and Sterl -4

By removing Costa and Antonio. But Antonio was rash thinking perhaps given he has a match in GW 28.

Kevin is currently assisting the assist

goal involvement has dropped off a cliff with new formation

plus he gets dragged after 65-70 most matches

      avoid

      Good plan? 🙂

      GW27 = Eriksen+Lukaku > Kun+J. King

      Heaton
      Alonso - Walker - Coleman - Pieters(x2)
      J. King - Mane - Siggy
      Kane - Kun(C)(x2) - Zlatan
      (Jaku - Phillips - Evans - Capoue)

      GW28 = Kun/Kane/Ibra > Lukaku

      Jaku
      Coleman Evans
      Mane Phillips Siggy J. King
      Lukaku

      Think I'm happy finally

      Williams (Spu away)

Gray & Hazard to Aguero & Morrison or Allen? for a -4.

Aware Gray plays 28 but what's his points ceiling vs Pool? I'm not selling Ibra or Lukaku so has to be Hazard to make way.
