Following our look at the sides who appear well placed to take of advantage of favourable fixtures over the next four-to-six Gameweeks, our focus now turns to those who may suffer regression as a result of punishing schedules.

Arsenal continue to be our major concern, while the Gameweek 28 blanks also damage the prospects of Crystal Palace and Stoke City assets.

Following Manchester City’s progress to the FA Cup last eight on Wednesday night, Stoke, along with City, both benefit from a double Gameweek 27. However, the mid-term programme for the pair remains testing.

Arsenal

(liv, (-), wba, MCI, WHM, cpl)

Two home fixtures over the next six Gameweeks raises concerns over the prospects of Arsenal assets.

One of those matches at the Emirates is also against Manchester City, so with a clean sheet also unlikely against Liverpool this weekend, stock in Arsene Wenger’s back four continues to falter.

The trip to The Hawthorns could also be a daunting task given that the Baggies have won their last four on home turf. Equally, West Ham United have netted a reasonable six goals in four and will relish the London derby clash.

Arsenal’s premium defenders are unlikely to figure in our thoughts in the immediate future, then.

The outlook is perhaps not quite so bleak at the other end of the pitch, given how fragile Liverpool’s defence looked in Monday night’s 3-1 defeat to Leicester City, while although improved of late, the Man City backline can also prove vulnerable, demonstrated early on in Wednesday’s tie with Huddersfield.

The West Brom, West Ham and Palace match-ups can barely be described as favourable fixtures – even the Eagles will provide a test given their current plight. However, all three are fixtures that should promise returns for the consistent Alexis Sanchez.

Not for the first time, the Chilean appears to be the only Arsenal asset worth backing during this period.

Crystal Palace

(wba, (-), WAT, che, sot, ARS)

The Eagles also suffer from having just two home fixtures over the next six Gameweeks, with one of those against Arsenal, while they also face leaders Chelsea on their travels.

Sam Allardyce’s men may be able to penetrate the Gunners’ defence at Selhurst Park, but it’s difficult to see them managing many goals, not only in that clash, but also over ties with Chelsea, West Brom and Southampton.

Only the home encounter with Watford in Gameweek 29 looks reasonably favourable for the Palace attack, so players such as Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha continue to offer limited appeal at this time.

From a defensive standpoint, it’s also only the Hornets clash that looks likely to yield returns.

Southampton and Chelsea have scored an impressive nine and eight goals respectively over their last four matches, while as already mentioned, West Brom’s home form makes them very likely to score at The Hawthorns.

Arsenal also have to be fancied to net at Selhurst Park, with Patrick van Aanholt and his defensive colleagues unlikely to offer any real potential over the coming weeks.

Stoke City

(MID/mci, (-), CHE, lei, bur, LIV)

While the Potters benefit from a double Gameweek (MID/mci) in the short-term, their schedule thereafter appears grueling.

Defensive returns certainly could be in short supply, with Chelsea and Liverpool expected to breach the Stoke rearguard, while trips to Leicester City and Burnley also provide stern tests.

So while those who own the likes of Lee Grant and Erik Pieters should ride out the short-term game, they’re likely to be prime candidates for the exit following Gameweek 27’s two fixtures.

The outlook is very similar when assessing the prospects of Potters attackers.

Matches against Chelsea and Burnley look unlikely to provide many goals, while the Leicester and Liverpool fixtures will offer opportunities, but are hardly favourable given the Foxes determined display on Monday night.

Owners of Stoke attackers should enjoy their advantage from Gameweek 27, but beyond that, the likes of Joe Allen and Peter Crouch, who remain popular assets, look set to be shown the door.

Also be wary of…

Manchester City
While there is already huge investment in City assets ahead of their double Gameweek 27 (sun/STO), particularly in attacking areas, we should remain wary of a tough run of fixtures (LIV, ars, che) following the Gameweek 28 blank.

While we have to regard this schedule as unfavourable, Pep Guardiola’s men still promise goals in those three matches against top-six rivals.

Owners of Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane will perhaps be less inclined to move them on immediately, though those holding Sergio Aguero will doubtless be looking to free up his funds to move for the likes of Spurs’ Harry Kane, who boasts a far stronger schedule from Gameweek 29 onwards.

City can never be relied upon for defensive points and the fixture list certainly stresses a need for caution should you be considering investment for Gameweek 27.

Bournemouth
Cherries assets, particularly the budget midfield duo of Josh King and Ryan Fraser, provide decent options in the short-term. Eddie Howe’s side are one of just eight playing in Gameweek 28, with their West Ham home clash followed by Swansea City’s visit to the Vitality Stadium.

However, their prospects look bleak from Gameweek 30 to 34. Bournemouth face a tricky clash away to Southampton, which is followed by a trip to Anfield, ahead of a visit from leaders Chelsea.

King and Fraser are cheap enough to be bench fodder and perhaps should be preserved for a favourable run-in from Gameweek 34. However, we will be clearing our squads for the bigger double Gameweek prospects by that time, a factor which could see both rendered surplus to requirements.

Having conceded 12 goals in their last four matches, Cherries’ defenders continue to hold little appeal, even with those home clashes against West Ham and Swansea on the horizon.

West Bromwich Albion
The Baggies have taken full advantage of a soft part of their schedule over the past few months, but once Saturday’s home meeting with Palace is out of the way, the upcoming fixture list (eve, ARS, mun, wat, SOT) stiffens considerably.

The fact they play in Gameweek 28, when they travel to take on Everton, does mean that West Brom assets will remain in our 15-man squads in the short-term.

But clean sheets certainly seem unlikely over the coming period, with only the Watford fixture appearing favourable from Gameweek 28 onwards.

But the attacking threat offered by Gareth McAuley and Chris Brunt may see them continue to provide decent value.

In attack, it’s likely that sales of Matt Phillips will continue to flow, while those still clinging to Nacer Chadli and Salomon Rondon will surely accelerate exit plans once the Everton fixture has passed.

Chelsea
Antonio Conte’s league leaders face just two home fixtures over the next six Gameweeks (whm, (-), sto, CPL, MCI, bou), with one of those pairing them with Manchester City – potentially their nearest title rivals by that point.

It’s the Chelsea defence which has started to become a concern, having failed to keep a clean sheet over their last four outings.

But the Palace and Bournemouth match-ups do offer the potential for improvement in that area, while the West Ham and Stoke clashes also look promising.

Those who own a Blues defender will surely keep the faith, particularly with so many other priorities on the table ahead of Gameweek 27 and the blanks in Gameweek 28.

Eden Hazard’s lack of production away from Stamford Bridge will be a concern ahead of four away trips in six. That may find him used as a popular makeweight for investment in the City midfield.

Likewise, while Diego Costa should keep ticking over given his consistency, even away from home, he is set to suffer sales as a result of the clamour for Sergio Aguero and Kane’s favourable fixtures from Gameweek 29.

So far ahead of Gameweek 27, Costa to Aguero has been the second most popular direct trade with 17,000 making that particular move, with the Spain international the most sold asset over the last 24 hours.

Sane in for Eriksen or Alli worth a -4? If so, which one? Leaning Alli, but all of my ML rivals have Alli. Should I play it safe and keep him and ditch Eriksen if I'm within 50 points of the leader?

I'm thinking of save points, but yeah maybe I should be thinking of CS chances and let's be honest no chance Pickford gets a CS. Imagine if aguero takes a pen and he saves it though after I've benched him. Gut wrencher.

Since it's looking more and more likely that this year's GW37 will be a massive double week doesn't that make saving the WC less valuable since it should be very easy to have a core of players playing twice that week with minimal hits. We all want to own those players anyway (Ibra, Sanchez, other GW26/28 blankers like Gabbiadani perhaps) so won't we all be set up for those?

The more I think about it, the more I am tempted to play my WC this week to set myself up for 27-28 with no hits, and then gradually introduce the right players back into my team for the doubles and stretch run from 29 onwards, taking a -4 where necessary if a DGW surprise is scheduled.

For me, playing wildcard somewhere around wk 30-32 is looking good.

Too many teams rotate and have nothing to play for in the last couple of GWs. Selection can't be trusted. I think an earlier WC should pay off.

Also, cash H2H league is my focus more than OR so that's part of it too. Need to maximize GW wins over points.

If the prem teams still in the FA cup get through to the semi, will they have another blank or will the semi's be midweek/game moved a few days back still withing GW?

    4. Ibracadabra
      • 16 Years

My thought process is that I'd rather be in control of my own destiny and would mean with 10 gameweeks to go that I still have Bench Boost and TC, while a team that is significantly stronger than my rivals for both 27 + 28, which is 17% of the season remaining. If you remove GW38 free for all of rotation, and say the real points will be gained from 27-37, then that is just 11 gameweeks, and I am positioning myself extremely strongly for 2/11 - or 18% while also trusting in my ability to react quickly enough with a strategic -4 and possess the discipline to look ahead to DGWs the rest of the way through regular transfers.

Since I own no City or Stoke players, and also own the non playing Mannone, Yoshida, Amat and potentially injured Matty Phillips, I think it is certainly a thought I have to consider.

The closer you wait until 37 the more in-form players you can pick. Although that doesn't necessarily mean it will transfer into points. But if you do play it earlier then it's very probable that there will be 3 or 4 (ore ven more) players you want coming in to GW36/37 but you won't be able to get all of them, while others will - that's the downside.

      1. Ibracadabra
        • 16 Years
        9 years, 29 days ago

Agree that's the downside but won't I also have 3/4 more players set up for this DGW (for example Sane, Sterling, Aguero, Grant) than my rivals if I pull the trigger now?

  8. UnitedFan

Will DGWs for Ibra or Sanchez later on have potentially better fixtures than Aguero's DGW this week which would mean it would be wise to save it?

Or are Aguero's double-fixtures the best there will be for a DGW?

Haha. I'm just recalling when Pep was asked about resting Jesus and he laughed and said something along the lines of Why would I bench him. He's playing well and scoring goals.

Same applies to Sergio right now. He's missed a few games in Dec/Jan and they blanked last weekend. I can't see how he or Pep could possibly benefit from a rest.

    Brunt, Baines, Maguire, Holgate, Walker
    Philips, Mane, Alli, Eriksen, Stanislas
    Defoe, Ibra and Lukaku

Suggestions guys? My plans all seem a little insufficient.

Atm I'm looking at Alli and Lukaku for Aguero and Sigurdsson. And then Aguero, Stan, and Holgate for Lukaku, Snodgrass and Coleman (-8) in 28. Philips out for Fraser or Carroll if necessary.

Hi, def Kaku and Kun out, and that -8 makes sense, have to hope Sterling sorts it out.

Could you afford Sterling/Sane and Kun for Kaku and Phillips? Or need the cash?

I cant afford Philips out for a City option unfortunately, unless I drop Ibra which I'm obviously reticent to do. I'd love a City midfielder too, but that would mean delaying Sig, and cost me an extra -4. So I figure that Sig and 4 points is better than Sane or Sterling for the GW.

I might TC too. It might protect me, in a way, if City go mad and Sane and Sterling do very well.

Does the fact that Spurs have only conceded 5 goals at home all season, where West Ham have conceded 22 goals at home, makes keeping Costa over Lukaku for this week more logical, with Costa having a higher chance of scoring?

West Ham have been turned over hugely by the big teams this season too, could be a goalfest.

Agree on fixtures; getting Lukaku back in for GW28 is the problem.

This is my problem with dropping Costa for Aguero and keeping Lukaku.

Is it ok to pick up 2pts from Lukaku just to have him for GW28. But then again he could score and Costa could blank.

            Lukaku is key for 28

I currently have Jaku, Baines, Brunt, Siggs, Mane, Coutinho, Lukaku for GW28

Keeping Lukaku this week would allow me to get 8, who else is really that essential for GW28?

You're in decent shape but could get someone like Llorente, Carroll, WHM mid. Not essential.

A hit for Lukaku in GW 28 is only -2 😀

Thanks for your help, it's just hard to know whether I'll gain more points overall keeping Costa this week or just go with 7 next week and use my FT for Lukaku.

Who knows. Costa hasn't scored away since gw17, but then Lukaku hasn't since gw18. Still prefer Costa fixture, but I can't justify the extra transfer/hit when may also have Phillips not playing next week.

        Current team:

        Grant Pickford
        Alonso Baines Brunt Holebas Amat
        Eriksen Phillips Sigurdsson Mane Fletcher
        Lukaku Aguero Ibra

        £0.0m ITB

Already done a -4 to get Aguero in. Is it worth going to a -8 to bring in Sterling too? Eriksen seems the most viable casualty.

Basically my question is: Will Sterling score more than 4 points more than Eriksen this gw?

I did Alli out for Sterling, kind of reluctantly, but I feel like you'll regret it if you don't take the chance to get maximum players in the DGW scenario.

Are you going to want Eriksen back? That's another -4 and potential points against Everton and Southampton lost already

Currently thinking I might go without Eriksen going forward and just cover Spurs with Kane (for Ibra / Aguero and downgrade Lukaku).

Not expecting much more than a single assist from Eriksen in the Everton game so Sterling would need to score 10+ in his two games to make this worthwhile. Certainly capable of that but I don't like doing a -8!

How do we know he still has pens? Lukakus confidence is back and he's in top form. Could easily snatch them back, especially if they're cruising 2 nil against Hull and they get one

        A. Costa Hazard > Aguero Sterling (-4)
        B. Costa Hazard Alli > Aguero Sterling Sané (-8)
        C. Lukaku Hazard > Aguero Sané (-4)
        D. Lukaku Hazard Alli > Aguero Sterling Sané (-8)

C or D means keep Costa for whu...but a little reluctant to move Kak as only have six 28ers at the mo... looking to bring in Sigurdsson next week for FT, and planning to double Kane/Eriksen going forwards hence consideration of Alli for premature chop. Thoughts much appreciated. Cheers.

        Right guys. G2g?

        Randolph / Jaku
Brunt Alonso Pieters / FunesMori Amat
Mane Sterling Siggy Fletcher / Antonio
        Kun(TC) Ibra Kaku
        (-4)

Keeping Antonio for next week; will probably take out RFM and Sterling for Mawson and Coutinho next time out to give myself 10 for 28.

        Thanks 🙂

Is anyone considering Silva? He got his rest in the cup game. Doesn't that mean he's guaranteed to start both games, plus his recent stats have been impressive as well.

He's the epitome of "assists the assister" - always looks good if you watch him and the stats are great, but he's not an FPL player in my view. Sterling or Sane with the end product, and I've gone Sterling for the clear extra security. Was good a couple of years ago, though!

Well I was just considering as he could prove to be a huge differential. Aguero and Sterling are locked for me. Would only get Silva if Phillips is ruled out.

I see... I'd be tempted to ditch Phillips anyway at the moment, I've sold Rondon. They just don't look like doing anything, it's all about owning the defender (bloody McAuley a prime example) who gets his head on a Brunt cross*.

*may not count as an assist.

        Foster - Heaton
        Azpilicueta - Williams - McAuley - Holgate - Collins
        Firmino - Hazard - Antonio - Eriksen - Sanchez
        Barnes - Benteke - Llorente

2 free transfers left ...Also, Antonio and Barnes are suspened so m quite confused. help me utilize free transfer boost 🙂
