After a five month long winter break the new season of Norwegian’s top flight football kicked off with a bang with two Gameweeks within a few days.

With Gameweek 3 starting on Saturday there is little respite for the clubs, and more importantly, us Fantasy managers. Gameweek 2 saw a lot of frustration as key assets were either benched or taken off early with the tight schedule in mind.

FFScout League Standings

The FFS community has shown an overwhelming interest for this fringe league, with 476 already having entered the FFScout main league (3769-1041).

On top with 135 points we find Norwegian Red (Oieiao) – perhaps fittingly – an Englishman.

In the FFScout  H2H league 16 managers have won both their matchups, with Ned Ryerson and Riski Virksomhet being joint top thanks to their superior points tally. Ned Ryerson features again on top of Phil Dagger’s Last Man Standing.

Stock Check

Ahead of looking at the risers and fallers from the two Gameweeks so far it is worth checking out Goktugerce‘s excellent statistical review of the first two Gameweeks, looking at team statistics, average positions and expected goals & assists. Meanwhile, Niemi took an in depth look at the good and bad players so far in every position.

Rising

Vegar Hedenstad (6.5) – Two clean sheets and an assist. On some set pieces.

Mike Jensen (10.5) – Two assists. Easy on the eye, which means he will be a favourite of ‘the man in the stand’. Already has 4 bonus points.

Milan Jevtovic (7.6) – A goal and an assist. A possible injury to Elbasan Rashani means Jevtovic could be nailed on going forward.

Nicklas Bendtner (12.5) – Two goals. The Dane is yet to find the groove but nonetheless has managed to find the back of the net in both games. Will score a lot of goals purely because of the sheer amount of chances Rosenborg create every game.

Sigurd Rosted (5.6) – Two goals. Not only is he a massive threat from set pieces, Sarpsborg play 4 out of their next 6 fixtures at home. Last season they kept an impressive 9 clean sheets in 15 games at home.

Patrick Mortensen (6.6) – Two goals and an assist. Sarpsborg have scored the joint most goals so far and the fixtures are favourable.

Gilbert Koomson (7.5) – Dubbed ’Siggy of Eliteserien’ by some of the FFS posters, Koomson showed some of his potential by scoring a penalty in GW2. The top assister from last season is yet to assist this campaign but that looks like a matter of time.

Bendik Bye (5.5) – Two goals and an assist. After a potential season ending injury for strike parter Ole Sveen, Bye should have done enough to nail down a permanent starting place.

Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) – A goal and an assist. 4 bonus points already, including full points in a game his team lost.

Ibrahim Shuaibu (5.0) – Two goals and two assists. Incredible form and value.

Frederik Gytkjær (7.5) – Three goals. Mistaken for his brother who was the league’s top scorer last season, a lot of casuals have enjoyed the early investment of the younger Gytkjær.

Ohi Omoijuanfo (7.0) – Hat-trick in the first home game. 3 of the next 4 fixtures are at home.

Marco Tagbajumi (7.6) – Two goals. Going somewhat under the radar compared to his expensive strike partner Marcus Pedersen. Favourable fixtures.

Jylian Ryerson (4.5) – One goal. Listed as a cheap defender, Ryerson has played both games in an advanced midfield position. Will probably drop a bit deeper once Adegbenro is back. Ryerson is a jack of all trades and due to Viking’s extremely thin squad we could hope to see him OOP for longer parts of the season.

Falling

Ghayas Zahid (10.5) – Tipped by many to be in contention for player of the year, Zahid has nothing to show for so far. Consistent returns are vital for players with a premium price tag. Does however face the bottom team at home in GW3 so those patient enough to keep could finally be rewarded.

Mohammed Abdellaoue (9.4) – An impressive pre season was followed by an anonymous opening GW before being ruled out for GW2 with an injury. Is very injury prone.

Lars Vilsvik (6.0) – Viewed as a full back with big attacking threat, the only thing Vilsvik has produced so far is an own goal. The fixtures are however still good.

Rafik Zekhnini (8.5) & Fredrik Nordkvelle (9.0) – Although the former registered an assist after coming on as a sub, he was benched due poor work ethic in the previous match. The latter is yet to return attacking points.

Samuel Adegbenro (7.5) – After missing the first game through illness, Adegbenro returned to training ahead of GW2. But he missed the second game as well, and now await four of the toughest games Viking will play all season.

Gameweek 3 Picks

Scoring the winner in his debut game, Bård Finne (9.1) will look to continue his good home form when Vålerenga welcome the bottom team Sandefjord. With Abdellaoue being a doubt for Sunday, Finne might benefit from a central striker role.

When it comes to attempts, midfielder Ifeanyi Matthew (6.1) is second only to Bendik Bye with 4 shots per game. The Nigerian will certainly fancy his chances at home against what currently is the joint worst defence in the league.

Marco Tagbajuni (7.6) is on top for average xG (expected goals) per shot. Although a small sample size, this suggests he has so far been on the right place at the right time. Up against a shambolic Aalesund defence, the rather budget friendly striker could potentially even be trusted with the armband.

I played in an exhibition match at Nadderud a couple of years ago. 100 % the worst pitch I've played on. That was in the middle of the summer when the pitch was supposed to be at its best.

So, for those who are wondering about Bendtner, Rosenborg and the promise of lots of goals there, some thoughts on the matter:
Bendtner has suffered from his tendency to roam the pitch, often finding himself too deep or too wide to be able to get into the box in time with the pace-play Rosenborg like. Rosenborg have only had 20-30 min stretches where they have gotten their game to sit as it should, but still.
Comparing that to last seasons top goalscorer, Gytkjær, he too had a bit of trouble getting into posision, in his case mostly due to fitness.

In numbers, Bendtner is actually ahead of schedule on Gytkjærs 19-goal season, as Gytkjær only had 2 goals at this point last season, and only got his first brace in GW13.

To this end, Bendtner can still become the big-ticket item, but only if he takes his coach' direction and stops roaming so much. If he stays up front a lot more, the game yesterday despite the loss shows a LOT of balls floated in from the wings, and the biggest worry was that the target-striker Bendtner was not on the receiving end of it, Vilhjalmsson was. And he was playing the box-to-box CM role.

Conclusion, there is hope, but it is probably a way off yet.

      • 9 Years

Another problem for most of us here is that to get Bendtner into our teams (I've never had him), we have to make at least 3-4 transfers. Even if he starts scoring it'll be difficult to get him. If I swap Mos with him, I still need 2.4M.

I guess of all matches this season, yesterday's match was actually one of Rosenborg's better matches. But they are still not clicking yet I think.

Brochmann is the template move this week, Sigurdarson differential. Problem with Riski for a Finn like me is that I mainly see him in national team and he's been pretty useless, but that aside looking good right now also. I got Brochmann.

    1. MTPockets

      Probably Lundstrom, Brochmann.

Same 2FT. Looking at 2 or 3 from:

      Ryerson > Seck
      Adegbenro > A.Sigurdarson
      Svendsen > Haugen

          Ryerson: 1,1,0,1

Haugen would just be for more Brann coverage and relative fixtures, but undecided on that. Have Molde Siggy anyway.

Svendsen only started 2 up front and 6 as a left winger this year.
Udoji mainly played as a ST, but also as a LM. Not nailed.
Morer doesn't always play up front. Last match he played behind Kastrati together with Sødlund.

Ssewankambo plays in midfield at times, but isn't nailed on.

Save my other FT? Assuming no injuries

    Leciejewski (sog)
Reginiussen (LSK) - Meling (LSK) - Rolantsson (sog) - Moe (VIK)
Sigurdarson (SIF) - Midtsjø (LSK) - Haugen (sog) - Zahid (s08)
    Sigurdarson (odd) - Omoijuanfo (VIK)

Bench: McDermott (FKH), Lindberg (VIF), Morer Vicente (aafk), Seck (aafk)

Ruud still a lot more dangerous going forward, but Grøgaard might be good enough due to the price difference. Grøgaard take corners as well, but doesn't take direct free kicks like Ruud (I'm pretty sure). Doesn't have as good of a shot as him either.

I think it was Grogaard that was standing besides Ruud when he scored that jammy deflected (not bitter :p) free kick. Not sure if he can have a go or if he is there just to put the keeper off a bit.

Ohi edges Mos for me because of ownership and explosiveness.

To be honest I haven't looked into it, so I might be wrong. Maybe he's on direct FKs as well, just haven't noticed it.

Ruud has taken on 10 shots so far, 5 inside the box and 5 outside the box. 5 of them from set pieces. He has taken 23 corners and 27 free kicks.

Grøgaard with 1 shot so far this year, which he scored from. He has taken 18 corners and 9 free kicks.

I think these stats show that Ruud is a lot more dangerous than Grøgaard, although Grøgaard offer some attacking potential. Ruud has 4 yellow cards though (1 away from suspension), while Grøgaard has 0.

So I've looked at the 3 attacking players at Stabæk playing behind Omoijuanfo. They are all looking like good value due to their cheap price and Stabæk's good form. Here are what we know:

    Brochmann - Price: 6.6 - Goals: 5 - Assists: 1 - Bonus: 11 - Position: AMR - Age: 27
    Kassi - Price: 6.0 - Goals: 1 - Assists: 4 - Bonus: 2 - Position: AMC - Age: 22
    Njie - Price: 5.3 - Goals: 0 - Assists: 2 - Bonus: 3 - Position: AML - Age: 21

Brochmann has played for Sandnes Ulf and Jerv in OBOS-ligaen (second tier) the previous two years. Last year he had 9g7a in 27 for Jerv. In 2015 he had 1g4a for Sandnes Ulf in 23. Had a couple of seasons in the top division for Sogndal, with 5g1a in 24 games in 2012 being his best season.

Luc Kassi has been a regular for Stabæk in over 4 years now.
    2016: 1g4a in 23 - 2015: 8g3a in 28 - 2014: 5g5a in 29 - 2013: 7g4a in 26

Njie only started playing regular football last year, after spending a few years at Vålerenga. 4g8a in 28.

So they are all obviously capable of scoring goals and assisting. All of them have proven records of that, except for Njie with only 1 season under his belt before this year.

Let's look at this years stats (all stats per game)

    Brochmann - 2.6 shots - 1.3 shots on target - 1.2 inside the box - 1.2 key passes
    Kassi - 2.6 shots - 1 shot on target - 0.8 inside the box - 1.8 key passes
    Njie - 2.4 shots - 1 shots on target - 1.6 inside the box - 1.3 key passes

Other stats: Njie and Kassi are putting in a decent number of crosses, Brochmann barely crosses the ball. Kassi have been taking 8 corners and Njie 4, but Moe takes most of them. Brochmann none. Kassi also takes the odd set pieces and Njie has hit the bar twice.

Looking at the last 5 matches it's quite clear to me that Njie has most touches in the box by far looking at these 3. Brochmann and Kassi get a few themselves, but Njie looks like the most advanced players. That's also reflected in shots inside the box.

Conclusion: You can't go wrong with either of these 3. Brochmann the man on fire right now and certainly offers a lot of goal threat. Kassi is also a potential goal scorer, slightly less than the other 2, but on the other hand he offers more assist potential. Njie looks like the most advanced players and numbers suggest goals are imminent. He's a bit wasteful though, should really had gotten more returns already. Not sure if he's just been unlucky, or if it's due to lack of quality. He's certainly getting chances though, so goals should come soon enough. Also 1.3 cheaper than Brochmann and 1.0 cheaper than Kassi, so IMO he's still the best value pick.
