Our last poll was dominated by two players, Sergio Aguero and Dele Alli, who garnered more than half of all votes.

This latest run-down is set to be another close call, with two Golden Boot-chasing strikers looking like stand-out captaincy picks for their favourable home encounters in Gameweek 33.

Romelu Lukaku’s (10.4) sensational form in front of his own fans carried on at the weekend, with his brace against Leicester City meaning he has scored 12 goals in his last seven Goodison Park encounters and 23 in total this season – more than any other player.

Next up is a visit from a Burnley side that has conceded 30 times and kept just three clean sheets in their 16 league road trips, which should ensure the 45.4% owned Belgian is among this week’s frontrunners.

Prior to a three-match injury lay-off, Harry Kane (11.3) was also on a hot streak, finding the net six times between Gameweeks 24 and 27 to bring his season total to 19.

With a promising 30-minute run-out under his belt in Tottenham’s 4-0 rout of Watford on Saturday, he looks primed for interest for the visit of an obliging Bournemouth defence to White Hart Lane this weekend – the Cherries have shipped 14 goals and kept just one clean sheet in their last six away matches.

Already more than 36,000 FPL managers have brought in the England striker and his 9.6% ownership is set to rise further before the next deadline.

But while Kane looks likely to be the main attraction among Mauricco Pochetinno’s troops, Spurs’ midfield trio of Dele Alli (9.1), Christian Eriksen (8.8) and Son Heung-min (8.4) are others likely to feature prominently.

Against Watford, Son was outstanding, with a 19-point haul from two goals, an assist and maximum bonus returns. Should he be retained in the starting XI to support Kane as expected, the South Korean looks a strong bet to add to his 11 goals for the campaign. Since Saturday he is the most bought asset, with more than 53,000 new FPL managers.

Alli also got on the scoresheet, bagging his 16th goal of the season against the Hornets, while his Danish team-mate also demands attention with five goals and nine assists in front of his own fans.

Sergio Aguero (12.8), who pipped Alli to the summit of Gameweek 32’s poll by just 2% of the vote, also looks an enticing armband option ahead of Manchester City’s trip to Southampton. The Argentine’s strike against Hull City on Saturday was his fifth in six starts. The Saints, however, have proved resilient at home in recent weeks, with two clean sheets in their last four St Mary’s encounters.

In addition, the City marksman has not been an explosive option of late, with his last double-digit FPL points haul coming in Gameweek 13.

Liverpool’s fatigued Brazilian duo, Philippe Coutinho (8.4) and Roberto Firmino (8.6), were preserved away at Stoke City, but with a goal apiece from the bench, they are among other strong candidates in our poll’s chasing pack.

They take on a West Brom side incapable of keeping a clean sheet at The Hawthorns of late, with their last shut-out on home turf arriving against Stoke in Gameweek 24.

A trip to Middlesbrough would have ensured Alexis Sanchez (11.6) competed for the summit – if it had taken place earlier this season when he was fielded as a central striker. But being stranded on Arsenal’s left wing over his last four matches has curtailed his threat markedly and he’s scored just once across that period. Potential backers will be keeping a close eye on the 26.8%-owned Chilean’s performance at Crystal Palace tonight to see if he can revive his output.

Theo Walcott (7.4) and Mesut Ozil (9.4) are two more Gunners’ assets that will be closely monitored at Selhurst Park after impressing in recent matches. The German playmaker has registered a goal and assist in his last two, while Waclott has two strikes over the same period.

Both are also strong differential options, given they have an ownership base below 10%.

Interest in Chelsea duo Diego Costa (10.5) and Eden Hazard (10.3), as well as Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.4), is likely to be tempered when they face each other in a tricky clash at Old Trafford on Sunday.

This could see some voters instead decide to back a differential, with Troy Deeney (6.9) among the best options as he prepares to host a Swansea City side that has conceded 10 goals in their last six. The 7%-owned Hornets’ talisman has scored four in as many home starts and being reduced to a bench role against Spurs on Saturday should mean he’s well-rested for the Swans’ visit.

The Captain Poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under Recent Comments.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 33 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article, offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Currently have Vert, Son and Alli. Will have to be a minus 4 to get Kane for Costa.

    Is it really worth it?

Kane is essential for Bournemouth IMO. Hard to move out Son after yesterda but in reality his minutes may be limited.

Bit early I know but would you HOLD ft.

    Valdes
    Davies Alonso Fuchs
    Firmino Sanchez Alli King
    Lukaku Llorente Aguero

    Jaku Pedro Olsson Brunt

    Players of interest
Holgate Yoshida Kane ibra & possibly but not essential zaha.

No wildcard so trying not to mess around at the back wasting transfers. May be necessary to get kane/ibra should I choose to get either.

    Thanks guys

Crikey. Real coin toss this one.

No one stands out. I would probably pick benteke over zaha but thats just me.

The Middlesbrough boys could hold arsenal. Wouldn't surprise me.

Sanchez owner and one of my captain choices but Middlesbrough a concern for some reason.

I'd say you want him for 33 and 35 as well, then he has a bonus DGW in the middle. (LEI, BUR) either side.

i suppose 2 home games in between the double.

Really tempted by a dullard move of McAuley to Van Aanholt this week, hoping he gets some game time tonight and he could be a great option for the next 3 weeks to then move out on a wildcard.

    1. Old Wulfrunian

I think Greg that Jagielka is a better option.Pva from dgw probably will get 2 points and its very diffIcult to keep a clean sheet against Leicester. It depends also from Leicester's result on Wednesday.

      1. greghammer95
        • 16 Years
        9 years, 1 month ago

He gets forwards a lot though, I want him mostly for weeks 33 and 35 and the DGW is just a bonus. He'll be out on the wildcard in 36. Jagielka I'd only want for this week against Burnley and possibly against West Ham.

Will consider him for sure though.

Which defenders would you want for the next few weeks? Replacing Walker. I've got Mustafi, Pieters, Bailly (got Valencia though), Gibson on the shortlist so far. Cheaper the better! Who you like the look of?

Gibson for the DGW. United (you've got covered, maybe). Other than that there isn't any standout (Spurs defender but 3 spots for attackers are tempting).

he hasnt been this season, but still one of the best in the world. I am pondering the move myself but i does feel a bit sideways for me. Kane back from injury and not likely to play the full match, Kun can score against anyone....

I am thinking shifting kun to Zltan for the DGW might be better.

I need some help with my transfer this week, which option sounds most reasonable:
    My midfield and attack is:
    Sanchez, Alli, Son, Sterling, Sane
    Aguero, Lukaku, Barnes

    A) Aguero -> Kane
    B) Sane/Sterling -> Zaha
    C) Both A) and B) for a -4
    D) No transfers

Thanks in advance to whoever bothers to help.

A or D would be my guess.

A also allows me to do Lukaku -> Ibra for the 34 DGW.

Just A I think - Zaha not worth a hit just yet, see how he goes tonight - that's what I'm doing anyway

    Pickford
    Alonso Valencia Davies
    Sanchez Coutinho Eriksen Sigy
    Lukaku Aguero Carroll

    Heaton Robertson Carroll Amat

Kun -> Kane the best bet? All rivals have 3 spurs already so cant get him in if not for a hit so might jump on him early. Save ft probably the next best bet right?

I think replacing Siggy should be your top priority. Especially if you have the money for Siggy -> Alli.

I dont think I agree with that. With Llorentes return and the next two matches being Watford and Hull, I just csnt

He's playing Watford and Stoke, but i see your point. I just think that Swansea are in poor form and there are many better midfield options.

    Who to sort out?

    Valencia or Walker

    I can't fix them both

    1. Sweetboi

Keep Valencia and hope he plays the DGW. Walker is a worry with Trippier's form and the want for Alli, Eriksen and Kane. Walker > Gibson looks good.

Depends who the rest of your defense is. United have a Dgw so Valencia may play one, it possibly both, of them. Plus walker frees up a spurs space.

Rest of defence is Alonso, Pieters, Evans

So I need to sort at least one of them out to have a decent defence

    Vardy > Benteke FT?

I would do this GW34 anyway and can see Vardy being rested for Atleti the following Tuesday.

      Isn't Benteke for gw34 a bit overestimated

Do you really think he'll score more than one goal if any?

The nice home fixtures either side may help soften any DGW disappointment.

Vardy has Arsenal (A) 34 and Benteke has 2 fixtures...albeit against Pool and Spurs. But they're fighting and he can score against anyone when on form.

Him scoring against Spurs will be very tough. Also, Arsenal hasn't been a tough fixture for offences this season. I could see Vardy scoring against them

DGWs and all Palace's fixtures are horrendous! Not tempted at all

Their DGW fixtures aren't great tbf, but they've got 2 great home fixtures either side of them. And he could still grab something from the double.

It was the sound move, guessing you got Alli in? Long term better option.

I was influenced to captain Alli over Kaku but also didn't do Vardy to Ibra (-4) out of my own decision.

First WC team, posted here, so I can find it again later in the week when I've tinkered too much:

    Pickford/Grant
    Yoshida, Gibson, Stephens, Rojo, Mustafi
Firmino, Son, De Roon, Sanchez, Zaha
    Kane, Lukaku, Ibra

Hoping to earn 0.2 in price rises across the week so I can upgrade Rojo > Valencia and downgrade Yoshi to someone cheaper (4.0) that's not Ake (3.8)
