Crystal Palace claim an improbable fifth victory in six Gameweeks as they add a forlorn Arsenal to their recent Chelsea scalp. Their wide men inflict the damage, as Wilfried Zaha underlines his potential ahead of the Gameweek 34 double with a pair of assists, ensuring that a lively Andros Townsend remains destined to be a differential. Here’s the Stock Check following Monday’s Gameweek 32 conclusion.

On the Rise

Wilfried Zaha, Andros Townsend
We waited in anticipation of a performance and points from Zaha, and the winger delivered. Two almost identical assists – sliding passes to Andros Townsend and then Yohan Cabaye – provided Zaha with returns and ensured that he grabbed a pair of bonus points.

He has now produced two goals and three assists in his last five Gameweeks, as he begins to mirror the consistency he displayed earlier in the season when we witnessed a run of seven assists and two goals between Gameweeks 9 and 15.

Brought in by 58,000+ ahead of Monday night’s encounter, investment in Zaha will now surely boom ahead of the Gameweek 34 double with Spurs and Liverpool. While those are testing opponents, five goals in the matches with Chelsea and now Arsenal proves that we cannot underestimate a confident Palace outfit.

Townsend is unfortunate not to offer more appeal. Identically priced with Zaha at 4.8, the former Spurs winger seems unlikely to garner attention despite impressing with a goal and an assist in Monday night’s encounter. He’s now produced two goals and two assists in his last five Gameweeks, but will doubtless be overlooked while Zaha grabs the attention.

Luka Milivojevic
Stroking home Palace’s second-half penalty, the Serbian presents a possible budget differential for Gameweek 34 for those unable to stretch to Zaha. Priced at just 5.0, Milivojevic has shown intent from range and Sam Allardyce confirmed post-match that he has even assumed duties from both direct free-kicks and penalties on establishing his starting role as a midfield anchor man.

“It was done a couple of weeks ago based on what he can do with a free-kick, so I’m glad he’s stepped up and took it because we’ve been very suspect on a few of them this season, and he tucked it in the bottom corner brilliantly.”

Wayne Hennessey, Joel Ward
While Mamadou Sakho is undoubtedly the key figure in the hugely improved Palace defence, the Liverpool loanee will miss the first of the Eagles’ double Gameweek fixtures against his parent club. That could have us searching for alternatives in Sam Allardyce’s defence, with keeper Wayne Hennessey and full-back Joel Ward perhaps the most likely contenders.

Palace have now kept four clean sheets from their last six, shutting out an Arsenal team that had scored in their previous 20 matches prior to Monday night. The buccaneering Patrick van Aanholt would ideally be our key target. But he’s still troubled by an ankle injury and his absence, together with doubts surrounding the Eagles’ centre-backs, may have us turning to Hennessey and Ward instead.

In Decline

Alexis Sanchez
Once again a peripheral figure on the left flank, Sanchez was unable to exert any real influence on a hugely disappointing Arsenal.

With Danny Welbeck starting in the central striker role for the last five Gameweeks, Sanchez has mustered just a single goal and assist. He’s now blanked in three successive Gameweeks for the first time this season – just as we look to the heavy-hitter ahead of Arsenal’s incoming double fixtures.

Despite Arsenal having eight matches left to play, Sanchez’s owners will be fidgeting wildly and considering their options.

It would seem almost unfeasible that Arsene Wenger will let the situation with Sanchez and the Arsenal attack continue. Having seen the Chilean excel in the central striker role earlier in the campaign, we could see Wenger revert to that set-up at Middlesbrough in Gameweek 33.

However, given Arsenal’s alarming malaise and chronic lack of confidence, there is still every reason to question the huge funds tied up in Sanchez as part of our squads.

Christian Benteke
Benteke was a major handful for the Arsenal defence and it seems almost remiss to lower his stock following such a performance.

However, Benteke missed out on attacking returns in the 3-0 defeat and, with Milivojevic claiming spot-kick duties, the striker’s prospects took a minor knock – Benteke had also missed penalties in Gameweeks 8 and 18 earlier in the season.

There can be no question that Zaha has now been established as the primary attacking target for Palace but, despite Monday’s setback, Benteke remains firmly in our thinking – his six shots on goal, five from within the box, against the Gunners demonstrates his menace.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Sanchez is ruining my season. Didn't have him for his huge hauls and when I buy him, Wenger sticks him on the wing. Scared to sell him in case Wenger sees the error of his ways and puts him central again.

    What's everyone else doing?

I think though Wenger is stubborn as hell he is surely going to stick him up front within the next couple games. Was going to say though, are people seriously not going to have Sanchez for that DGW? who are looking to sale. I've screwed up, unless I do a -8 it's looking like I won't be able to get him in for it...

I'm not really keen to take hits in general, and while A is tempting, I might just not do it anyway. Let's look at the options. I won't give you actual stats because otherwise FFS might delete the post for exposing member stats.

A: Leicester are gonna have a CL match at Madrid this week. I'd bet Palace will beat them, and if so, then there will be attacking returns for Palace players. Leicester's weakest point in defence seems to be defending set pieces, so maybe you could expect points from someone like Cabaye or Benteke. On the other hand, they do concede relatively a lot of chances from wings, a lot of crosses, which looks good for Zaha's chances.

B: Swans had a peak in form, but now just 1 goal in last 4 and that from shot numbers that are the league worst. And this has been rather easy opponents (except the Spurs they scored against). Even before it they just scored 1 against Hull, and smashing Burnley at home. Meanwhile, Watford's defensive numbers remain very solid. If you look at head-to-head stats, in 3 clashes between Watford and Swans in PL Watford has only conceded 1 goal. At home Watford won 1-0, Swans unable to create goal threat despite playing last half an hour on man advantage. So, good chances that Watford keeps CS, which would all but guarantee 6 points from Holebas.

The only slight worry is that there is one sort of attack that Swans are good at, and that is set pieces, all sorts of set pieces, and Watford both concede a lot of fouls around their box and concede both shots and goals from them too. So, that does raise a doubt. As to Holebas' attacking returns, I wouldn't hope too much. If you want to look for an extra positive, Swans concede a crosses, and generally chances from wings, so Holebas could get something from that. He wasn't much threat at Swansea this season.

All in all, Palace winning Leicester looks likely, but as long as Holebas gets 60+ minutes without conceding 2+ goals or taking a card, Zaha also needs to get to goals to make it worth the -4. If its just, say, an assist and 1 bap from Zaha, then you're not really winning because you start with the -4. And I wouldn't expect Leicester to get thrashed at Palace, anyway. Watford CS is not too unlikely, maybe not less likely than Zaha returns, and if they keep a CS you need a goal and 3 baps from Zaha just to get to evens. A bit risky for me, seen Swans' extremely poor attacking form.

Sorry for the late reply, I can't thank you enough, I really appreciate this.
You're making a very strong case for Holebas here, so maybe A is still possible with playing Holebas and benching Alonso (mun), Valencia (CHE), Stones (sou) or Holgate (BUR) instead. It's a benching headache because none of these players looks likely to keep a CS, except maybe Holgate. But then again CSs are so unpredictable I could easily bench the wrong one anyway.

Thoughts on Sanchez > Zaha & Barnes > Kane?

    That would leave me with:
    Jaku
    Baines, Stones, B. Davies
    Eriksen, Coutinho, Siggy, Zaha
    Kane, Lukaku, Aguero

Bench - Heaton, Holgate, T. Carroll, Amat

Can you wait for kane to get back though? there's a good chance Poch will ease him back, especially with Sonny doing so well up front. And Aguero is hitting a goal a game at the moment and they have some decent fixtures coming up. I also woudn't double on Boro defense ... but that's just me.

I had a very bad round as i decided to replace alonso, coutinho, A carroll and mahrez for mcauley, sane, zaha and kane. This made me lose about 20 points (though zaha havent played yet), but i will pop my WC for the DGW and rebuild a new team that i hope will get me more points over the next weeks.

The team i had this round was:

    Pickford - Mignolet
    Love - Mcauley - Valencia - Walker - Fernandez
    T Carroll - Zaha - Sane - Alli - Sanchez
    Kane - Ibra - Vardy

The team i have looked to get looks like this:

    Pickford - DDG
    Alonso - Stones - Stephens - Jagielka - Davies
    TCarroll - Coutinho - Sane - Alli - Sanchez
    Ibra - Kane - Origi

Now the plan in the following weeks is to get walcott / redmond for coutinho, redmond / zaha for carroll and gabbiadini for origi if he gets fit, if not i will just keep origi. And i'm looking to maybe get Bellerin instead of Alonso as arsenal has better fixtures than chelsea and i just threw out alonso :P. And as chelsea havent had a cs for 9 games and still counting.

This will give me 14 DGW players for when i will bench boost in GW37 or whenever there will be most played games. I do know that many of my players play against eachother which is why i'm asking for some tips on what to maybe change

They all have good potensial to score high, but when they get really kicked in the butt against CP it's hard to decide what to do........Sanchez can explode anytime and even though he has had his first blanks in a row, he can still shine in the next games 😛

Barragan, Chambers, Gibson and Friend is first choices, with Fabio a strong contender for Friend as it was under Karanka, and Agnew seems to favor the same ones. I would wait for news, and if Chambers or Friend are fit then perhaps one of those two, but beware that they are more injuryprone than Gibson for example. but Agnew could also opt for a 3 back-line and then one of Bernardo and Ayala also has a spot to claim. Friend at 4.3 will then perhaps be a very handy choice? It´s a wait and see, this one

Is Son's starting berth safe now Kane is back?

Also, would you lose Vardy or Kun to make way for Kane?

The former would involve a -4 and losing Gylfi for Zaha.

    Thanks.

      Vardy

Son's place depends on formation when Rose is back. 3 at the back means no Son.

      Kun

Vardy and Siggy for Kane and Zaha is a more than decent -4.

Views on Jeff Schlupp as a Palace defender to buy over coming games?

Wouldn't get a Palace defender for those fixtures

He is not nailed on, unfortunately. Goes back to the bench the moment PvA recovers from injury, which might happen anytime now.

Was only interested in Hennessey at the back for palace as he's the second cheapest playing GK (Jaku and pick joint top)... Other than that don't really think there's much appeal until PVA returns

Would you sell Sanchez at this point if it means being able to upgrade A.Carroll to Harry Kane?

    Jaku xx
    Alonso Valencia Evans Pieters xx
    Siggy Sane Alli Eriksen Sanchez
    Ibra Kaku Barnes

    2FT 0.2M

    Thinking
    a) Sane Sanchez Barnes -> Kane Zaha Townsend (-4)
    b) Sanchez Barnes -> Kane De Roon

    Prefer A. Any other moves?

Good morning. Small red arrow but still in the top 2k. What would you do with this lot to keep top 1k quest on:

    Foster
    Holgate, Alonso, Yoshida
    Sigurdsson, Sanchez, Hazard, Alli
    Lukaku, Aguero, Llorente

subs: Heaton --- Brunt, Robertson, Clayton --- 2 FT, 0.2 ITB

    A) Aguero -> Kane and save FT
    B) Aguero and Llorente -> Kane and Benteke
    C) Sanchez and Llorente -> Zaha and Kane
    D) Siggy and Brunt -> Zaha and Bailly

Thanks Zikry. Do you think I'd be ok this week with Llorente still in my team? Defence also needs surgery but it can probably wait until wildcarding possibly in 35/36

Llorente should start against Watford who are really struggling at the back with injuries. It really comes down to which duo I think will score more in the next two weeks between Siggy + Benteke vs Llorente + Zaha. Close call but Zaha really has been a man on a mission lately

Cheers Drughi. You'd prefer keeping Sanchez over Aguero at this point? It really is tempting to get rid of Sanchez and get forward line of Kane, Kun, Lukaku this week with Aguero to become Ibra for DGW.

When you put it like that hmmm. Sanchez still got dgw to come, that what makes it tricky. I did aguero>kane this week. Hard decision considering aguero has been scoring.

Aguero has the form, Sanchez has more fixtures. Gabriel Jesus will be back soon too (within 2-3 weeks) so Aguero's spot isn't even guaranteed when that happens

How does this sound for you. Keep Aguero this week -> get rid of Sanchez for Zaha to bring in Kane for Llorente -> Aguero to Ibra next week for the double -> Get Sanchez back in for his first double (Hazard will be his place holder)

I'd like to avoid hit at this point. -8 definitely too much but Aguero, Llorente and Hazard to Kane, Ibra and Zaha for a hit could still be possible...Just not sure if its worth it

    Should I WC?

    Grant - Hennessey
    Luiz - Vertonghen - Yoshida - Baines - Holgate
Sanchez - Siggy - Sterling - Alli - De Roon
    Kane - Lukaku - Llorente

No need. Just get rid of Llorente if he is still doubtful. Save your wc for before one of the double gws . Maybe use it next week but only if you've used your bench boost already - otherwise save it until week 36 to get 15 double game week players in 37.

Sanchez - Sigurdsson - Pedro - Zaha - de Roon

    Ibrahimovic - Lukaku - Defoe

    Pickford (Valdes)
Bailly - Stones - Davies (Chambers - Yoshida)
Sanchez - Eriksen - Coutinho - Zaha (De Roon)
    Lukaku - Kane - Ibra

    I'm on a WC with 0,2 itb.

    Any other suggestions?
