An largely uninspired encounter, marked by a moment of brilliance from Emre Can. Liverpool’s 1-0 victory was priceless, from a Fantasy perspective, it was notable only for Philippe Coutinho’s early exit. Here’s the Stock Check from the final match of Gameweek 35.

In Decline

Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian went into Monday’s clash as part of just over a million FPL squads, having been acquired by more than 50,000 new Fantasy Premier League owners ahead of Liverpool’s Vicarage Road visit.

In addition, Coutinho claimed the armband for 122,000 managers who had big expectations having seen the midfielder score in four of his last five Gameweek starts.

But his night lasted less than ten minutes before he suffered a dead leg in a clash with Watford’s Adrian Mariappa; a collision which ultimately led to Coutinho succumbing to the injury on 12 minutes.

His departure saw the re-introduction of Adam Lallana following a five Gameweek absence, but that will have been little consolation for Coutinho’s owners.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed post-match that the injury should not represent a major setback…

“He has a dead leg, hopefully it’s not too serious but of course it’s really painful and no chance [he could continue]. Everybody could see he tried hard, but no chance.”

While he will be expected to be back in contention for the visit of Southampton in Gameweek 36, Coutinho’s single point return at Watford, coupled with any minor doubt of his participation against the Saints, will undoubtedly accelerate sales.

He is already hovering outside the top five for transfers out, with 22,000+ jettisoning Coutinho so far, with traffic moving to both Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard in particular.

Roberto Firmino is not far behind his team-mate and compatriot. He went into the Watford encounter having returned in each of his last five Gameweeks, producing two goals and three assists.

Despite that form, his Monday night blank will exacerbate recent sales, with Firmino already ranked fourth behind Coutinho, Son Heung-min and Wilfried Zaha among FPL midfielders.

Quite simply, with Wildcards active, double Gameweek assets are dominant and despite Liverpool’s obliging run-in, both Coutinho and Firmino look set to become unlikely differentials for those without the option of an end of season refresh.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I want to see what the FFS community thinks.

As a Bailly owner, should I keep or sell on a WC?

I've currently got him in on my WC, but will bench him this week which will allow me to play JWP for his DGW and then he should be okay for 37. That's my thinking at least.

Decent idea. The only slight concern is Smalling and Jones and Bailey rested if they reach the final of EL

So if anyone out there has wildcard, bench boost and AO A still intact how are you gonna play them? It's a bit of a dilemma!.......you can't play BB or AOA in tbe same week as tbe wildcard..... is that right???

You can't use more than 1 chip per week.
Most around here planned to WC this week, then BB in 37.
Those who still have the AOA planned to do that this week on Sanchez, but his dip in form has them considering BB-ing this week instead and TC-ing Hazard in 37.

Depends on the fit of your team.

If you have a strong full attack 8, you could just play AOA now and BB next GW, and then leave the wildcard to adjust your team to the last GW rotations. Because the last round lineups will look very different to normal, and I personally at least am a little worried about how my team will look then.

If it looks like you could not get great benefit from your BB and AOA now, then obviously play the wildcard first to attack most of the possible points with a strong team, and leave AOA for the last GW, or even unused, because it's the least valuable chip. I think I actually lost points with it last season. It may not be good at all.

This was very misleading piece of journalism:

"There are also genuine fears that star defender Virgil van Dijk will leave if Puel doesn’t."

They're about to lose VvD even if they had his mom for manager.

If these news are true, they'll probably prefer firing Puel, because it's easier than changing players, but I think they shouldn't. He's done remarkably well with an insupportable number of injuries, particularly in defence, which is what has literally forced him to play less attacking tactics than he started with.

If the initial plan was that he would build a new team from young players, they shouldn't fire him when old players get cranky. Rather cash on those players and be patient with the plan that was never going to work in 1 year only. While McQueen and Stephens played because more experienced players were injured, that still worked for that plan of giving time to youngsters.

Have to agree with all of this, but I am concerned that Redmond was involved, he's only just arrived this season under Puel. Perhaps something isn't right?

        1. Camp No No
          • 12 Years
          8 years, 11 months ago

Yeah. But then that part of the article looks particularly suspect:

"Star winger Redmond was surprisingly dropped from the starting line-up for last weekend’s 4-2 defeat at Chelsea.

His omission is believed to have followed a disagreement with Puel."

So, basically, Redmond being rotated once created a rumour that it could have been because of a disagreement with the coach who brought him there and has played him all season before everybody else. Maybe it's true, but doesn't just look like well founded to me.

Sure we say this every season but I genuinely can't remember a time when our teams have looked so uniform. Really hope they tinker with the chips next season, (maybe say bb has to be used before January) wc 36 bb 37 just makes it very very dull.
Or maybe it's not that bad and I'm just in the scout bubble of seeing all these identical rmwcts

I agree and would like this as a hot topic. In some fashion, BB and TC should be banned from DGWs. Otherwise, it's a built-in tactical advantage for experienced patient managers. It's fairly messy for a game trying to build interest to include extra disadvantages for new players.

Yeah, my only fear with Chelsea is possible rotation when they've secured the title. But after Spurs won Arsenal, it looks like that will not be before GW38, and then it's also possible that Poche will play the bench when Spurs have nothing to really play for anymore. Just to give some field time to players who have not featured much.

          Morning gents!

Have a mere 16 points lead in my ML – with this team, TC in 36 (BB37) or the other way round? Sanchez looks like sh*t...

          Willy
          Alonso Daniels Stephens
          Alli Hazard King Sanchez JWP
          Kane Gabbi

          Pick Blind Holgate Afobe

You could score more from Hazard TC in 37 to be honest, but I'd be conscious that youu would be benching a DGW keeper in GW37, Holgate (WAT), Daniels (BUR) and Afobe (BUR)... probably.

I like the BB GW37 idea personally.

Stephens and Gabriel not nailed on. Stones still to return from injury. Too many risks to my like, particularly if you plan to play bench boost. I'd hate to play bench boost just to have hardly 11 players who play. On the other hand, without bench boost or AOA you may not get even that.

Albrighton is fine, need to work out if Alonso is worth the risk.

OK, fair point. That is a dilemma, I am personally thinking to rid Alonso, but thats mainly for budget issues.

          Would you rather go
          A. Sanchez less
          B. Hazard less
          C. Alli less

Cheers, bad squad value has forced me into this headache.

            Hazard probably.

Hmmm that's tough. Maybe Sanchez-less but always risky to go without him. Tough choice that mate. Fwiw I will have to make a similar decision and will probably have to do without Alexis

20 points behind my ML and still have my TC and BB to play

But to be honest, with my Coutinho (C) luck yesterday I can see me still losing it.

Sanchez (TC) last role of the Duce before BB?

Ok. Hmm... Zaha is definitely better for a bench boost next GW. Although I'd put my money on Hull now. Maybe swap him for someone more useful and play BB now. Or then throw a coin between Vert and Yo. You know, I'm kind of convinced that Vert has a strong chance to CS at Hammers, but then Yo has two games… Not great games though, and he doesn't have any attack threat to compensate the probable lack of clean sheets.
