An largely uninspired encounter, marked by a moment of brilliance from Emre Can. Liverpool’s 1-0 victory was priceless, from a Fantasy perspective, it was notable only for Philippe Coutinho’s early exit. Here’s the Stock Check from the final match of Gameweek 35.

In Decline

Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian went into Monday’s clash as part of just over a million FPL squads, having been acquired by more than 50,000 new Fantasy Premier League owners ahead of Liverpool’s Vicarage Road visit.

In addition, Coutinho claimed the armband for 122,000 managers who had big expectations having seen the midfielder score in four of his last five Gameweek starts.

But his night lasted less than ten minutes before he suffered a dead leg in a clash with Watford’s Adrian Mariappa; a collision which ultimately led to Coutinho succumbing to the injury on 12 minutes.

His departure saw the re-introduction of Adam Lallana following a five Gameweek absence, but that will have been little consolation for Coutinho’s owners.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed post-match that the injury should not represent a major setback…

“He has a dead leg, hopefully it’s not too serious but of course it’s really painful and no chance [he could continue]. Everybody could see he tried hard, but no chance.”

While he will be expected to be back in contention for the visit of Southampton in Gameweek 36, Coutinho’s single point return at Watford, coupled with any minor doubt of his participation against the Saints, will undoubtedly accelerate sales.

He is already hovering outside the top five for transfers out, with 22,000+ jettisoning Coutinho so far, with traffic moving to both Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard in particular.

Roberto Firmino is not far behind his team-mate and compatriot. He went into the Watford encounter having returned in each of his last five Gameweeks, producing two goals and three assists.

Despite that form, his Monday night blank will exacerbate recent sales, with Firmino already ranked fourth behind Coutinho, Son Heung-min and Wilfried Zaha among FPL midfielders.

Quite simply, with Wildcards active, double Gameweek assets are dominant and despite Liverpool’s obliging run-in, both Coutinho and Firmino look set to become unlikely differentials for those without the option of an end of season refresh.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    (A) Zaha or (B) Coutino OUT (-4)?

For Sanchez... triple captain him as well?

    Bottomed.
On WC, GTG as things stand? (DGW 36* & 37")

    Cech*" (Willy")
    Monreal*", Alonso", Yoshi*", (Stephens*", Holgate)
Sanchez (C)*", Haz", Ali", King (Morrison")
    Kane", Costa", Jesus"

Don't really have bench headache this week, which is good at left 40 points on bench combining last two gameweeks... BB for 37 maybe not as strong as it could be but first XI very happy with.

Morning all - bottomed so RP...

Bit of a quandary - worth taking a -8 to get another def in for Barragan? Thinking of getting Cahill as a differential as most rivals have Alonso. Will probably do it anyway next week.. will I get pay back from the MID game?

    Pick / Henn
Holgate Yoshi Stones(yf) / Bailly (yf) Barragan
    Eriksen Alli San(c)hez Haz King
    Kane Jesus / Anichebe
(done Tekkers to Jesus and Zaha to King)

Better to do the -8 this week? Or take the -4 next? Will be bringing Willy in for Henn next week too. I guess I'd be relying on whoever I bring in getting a clean sheet + bonus to break even, which is a big ask for a defender.

    Thanks!

Tough. I'm not interested in any of them tbh!! Maybe Monreal the top candidate at the mo, but I don't think AW knows what he's doing (am a Gooner!!)

Yeah I'm not too interested either but need rid of Gibson. Is there not a chance monreal would be rotated with Gibbs in the scene nowadays since he's got 4 games in two weeks?

Is it safer going for Kos?

I've got Barragan 3rd sub atm, will be going asap but had to remove the Palace boys this week and don't really wana take the -8!

Kos definitely safer I think. Could weigh in with a goal too.

Ouch. I think B. As you said to me above, I don't think it's worth a -8 for a defender here, hope Bailly plays / gets you 2pts or whatever 😀

Well it's not for the defender, it 's an 8 point hit to accommodate getting Sanchez rather than Ozil

No of course not. I'm favouring Chelsea Def + Haz as my Chelsea cover personally (in a 3-5-2 and going Kane/Jesus up top) but at home he seems more in the mood. Can't see Boro denying Chelsea.

Only issue is Costa is hardly the most explosive, so don't be surprised to just get a 12 pt captain, which is acceptable, but in the context of a DGW Sanchez (the maj capt) could easily match without doing much!

      1. Sp0rting

Agreed. And the Sanchez ownership could really kill you off.

Yeah that's the issue. Such a standout captain that if he scores (ok poor form... but if he has a chance he'll score it) you will be pegged back a lot. Smaller chance of upside would make me think just plump for Sanchez and wait til next week's big DGW for your Costa (c) move... 🙂

    Jaku (De Gea)
Monreal - Koscielny - Yoshida - Alonso (Robertson)
    Sanchez (c) - Alli - Hazard (Siggy, T.Davies)
    Jesus - Gabbiadini - Lukaku

0.9 itb (Lukaku > Costa or Siggy > Sane for 37 probably)

I think it's good, although I'm keeping Lukaky

Agreed. I'd suggest Monreal/Vertonghen for next week

Cheers. Could do Monreal in this week and wait a week for Sane. Monreal have a dgw this week as well.

If Gabriel was nailed I'd be happy with my WC. As it is, I'm left with one of these combos (37BB):

    A) Pickford, Gabriel, Vertonghen, Gabbiadini
    B) Caballero, Monreal, Alderweireld, Anichebe

    Thanks

Anichebe not an option for me so A, how 'rotational' is Gabriel?

Not sure but probably will suffer with Mustafi return. He's due back during 37 I think.

    C) Alli (whu)
    D) Kane (whu)
    E) Gabbiadini (liv, ARS)

    All, does this look sensible?

    Heaton
    Alonso - Davies - Holgate
    Coutinho - King - Sanchez - Eriksen
    Kane - Lukaku - Gabbiadini

    Nordfeldt - Carroll - Chambers - Gibson

    GW 36 (-8): Coutinho -> Ozil
    Lukaku -> Jesus

    GW 37 (-4): Ozil -> Hazard
Heaton -> Courtois or Gibson -> Azpilicueta

I'd chance Gabby up top and the rest will fall into place.
