An largely uninspired encounter, marked by a moment of brilliance from Emre Can. Liverpool’s 1-0 victory was priceless, from a Fantasy perspective, it was notable only for Philippe Coutinho’s early exit. Here’s the Stock Check from the final match of Gameweek 35.

In Decline

Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian went into Monday’s clash as part of just over a million FPL squads, having been acquired by more than 50,000 new Fantasy Premier League owners ahead of Liverpool’s Vicarage Road visit.

In addition, Coutinho claimed the armband for 122,000 managers who had big expectations having seen the midfielder score in four of his last five Gameweek starts.

But his night lasted less than ten minutes before he suffered a dead leg in a clash with Watford’s Adrian Mariappa; a collision which ultimately led to Coutinho succumbing to the injury on 12 minutes.

His departure saw the re-introduction of Adam Lallana following a five Gameweek absence, but that will have been little consolation for Coutinho’s owners.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed post-match that the injury should not represent a major setback…

“He has a dead leg, hopefully it’s not too serious but of course it’s really painful and no chance [he could continue]. Everybody could see he tried hard, but no chance.”

While he will be expected to be back in contention for the visit of Southampton in Gameweek 36, Coutinho’s single point return at Watford, coupled with any minor doubt of his participation against the Saints, will undoubtedly accelerate sales.

He is already hovering outside the top five for transfers out, with 22,000+ jettisoning Coutinho so far, with traffic moving to both Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard in particular.

Roberto Firmino is not far behind his team-mate and compatriot. He went into the Watford encounter having returned in each of his last five Gameweeks, producing two goals and three assists.

Despite that form, his Monday night blank will exacerbate recent sales, with Firmino already ranked fourth behind Coutinho, Son Heung-min and Wilfried Zaha among FPL midfielders.

Quite simply, with Wildcards active, double Gameweek assets are dominant and despite Liverpool’s obliging run-in, both Coutinho and Firmino look set to become unlikely differentials for those without the option of an end of season refresh.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

It actually does when you have to go up the rank.
Having a template won't help you climb up when compared to players who are neglected during WC

It's a bit obvious really but ownership means stuff all. The players who score heaviest get you the best rank . End of.

Overall sane is owned by only 6.4% managers which is a great differential.

Also that's what is breaking the template all about . Going with players who are not sure to start doubles .

Yeah but you shouldn't really care about the overall ownership. The top10k, this place (these teams are actually alive) and your money league rivals are better benchmarks.

Sané is in about every RTM here. Which is template.

          You on wildcard?

Could quite easily fix it by downgrading Sane for a bench player in 36 with a double 37, Ward-Prowse maybe? Then spread the money across the backline?

          Ranocchia to Holgate for more funds then;
          Gabreil to Monreal
          Yoshida/Stevens to Kompany/Vert
          Azpil to Cahill/Alonso

Looking at ManU, can't help thinking that this is Wenger's chance to humiliate both ManU and Mou at once in an extremely important match. If he doesn't go for the kill, even the overkill, now, I can't quite tell how disappointed I am. But looking at Arsenal's recent tactics, I fear he won't do it.

    1. sully29
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

Most likely scenario is that Mourinho parks the biggest bus he has and Arsenal aren't sharp enough to shift it. Losing all these players will only make United's approach more negative. Even if Wenger did go for it, Arsenal don't look in good enough shape to humiliate anyone atm.

      1. Camp No No
        • 12 Years
        8 years, 11 months ago

Pretty much what I said. But the lack of sharpness, I think that's very much because of a bad system. If they went more positive, they could do better. Motivation should be there without asking, and they should have the energy and the quality to do it now.

There's no doubt Mou will park the bus. He would have done it anyway, against a top table rival away. Now he certainly will. Particularly as 0-0 is enough for him if he plays it safe for the 5th place which I think he will. But I actually doubt that they can do it with the Celta match midweek. And will he find a big enough bus, particularly if Bailly is out, too, with Pogba and Zlatan, and basically every big player they have. Is Fellaini even back yet or still suspended? Arsenal is not the team known to exploit height, but they could do that now in set pieces in particular. I know I would focus on that. Knowing how bad DDG is coming out of his goal, defending high balls is the weakness to exploit in ManU now.

You've got to be kiddin. That was pretty much ManU's first choice eleven at the time. Only Cleverley and Anderson weren't first team regulars. It was Arsenal who played the youngsters/reserves who wouldn't play normally: Djourou, Jenkinson, Traoré, Coquelin, even Lansbury featured, alongside with the already leaving flop Arshavin. I don't think Traoré ever played again for Arsenal, and Lansbury never in his whole Arse career started a PL or CL match for them.

I agree . The big useless donkey upfront is the recipe for failure. Wenger always seems to turn this stinking pile of crap at the end of the season and this time it's not ending well.

      1. Camp No No
        • 12 Years

I actually disagree with that! 😆

Giroud is loudly underrated and particularly right now I would definitely play him against that ManU team - see above. Anyway, it's not playing Giroud that hasn't worked for them. There's a lot that has gone badly, particularly they're defending worse and worse as the season goes on, and the recently used negative system just makes them less dominant and if it worked somehow against City, it has been disaster in every other match.

          • 10 Years
          8 years, 11 months ago

I agree that the problem is more deep seated than Giroud. The wheels came off a while ago and it is Wenger related. However in times of need he always seems to call upon Giroud who quite simply isn't good enough.

Pickford (SWA ars) King (BUR) Stephens (mid MNU) Yoshida (mid MNU)

Starting to think I should have played it earlier in the season 😆

So has Sane had his rest? Or will Pep continue to frustrate?

I think he got his rest personally. Kin out will help his case

Is it a real possibility that he's out for season?

Sounds like he might be but guess won't know for sure until Pep's press conference

I want to ship out Coutinho and Benteke, should I bring in:

    A) Aguero and 4.6 mid
    B) Sanchez and 5.9 striker
    C)Jesus and 8.7 mid

    Cheers!!

I'm going to have a try at making the best RMT team I can.

Anyone else had a shot at this?

Also: Jesus is rated very low. Is this just because it hasn't been updated?

    Lukaku is worryingly high

Wildcard active but not happy with the defence. Ideally would like a chelsea def in there but not sure who to ditch.

    Caballero // Pickford
    Monreal // Gabriel // Yoshida // Stevens // Holgate
    Sanchez // Hazard // Alli // Sane // King
    Kane // Jesus // Gabbi

Eriksen instead of Alli, maybe a cheaper option for Sane? His stats aren't that great anyway, he's just the obvious pick and there aren't many others. Maybe Pedro/Son/Herrera?

    Thoughts on?

    DDG Pickford
    Cahill Gabriel Yoshida Stephens Holgate
    Sanchez Hazard Alli King Matic
    Kane Jesus Gabbiadini

    0.0 ITB

    Any alternative suggestions?

      DDG - > Caballero

      Matic - > someone who isn't Matic

I would maybe downgrade DDG to Caballero and bring Albrighton for Matic...

Very annoying that I've got to bench Yoshida this week but I can't see any other option?

    Cech
    Alonso / Monreal / Cedric
    Sanchez / Hazard / Alli / Eriksen / Sane
    Kane / Gabbiadini

    Pickford / Yoshida / Valencia / Anichebe

I played my all out attack chip this week with jwp my fifth mid. He didn't play , so I assume alonso as my first sub comes on. Others in my mini league have had their automatic subs come on already but mine isn't updating.? Any ideas?
