Frustration is the only word for it.

In a compelling season that has tested even the most hardened and experienced Fantasy manager, it seems we are destined to be deprived of a truly satisfying double Gameweek.

So often the pillars that hold up our season finale, we speculate and strategise, whipping ourselves into a frenzy as we conjure visions of big individual hauls and three-figure totals.

Inevitably they rarely live up to our expectations but this season’s double Gameweeks feel flatter than ever, with the past 48 hours proving particularly exasperating.

Friday provided an ominous opening, with Chelsea’s victory wrapping up the title race to introduce rotation concerns, while also providing blanks for both Eden Hazard and Diego Costa.

Mason Holgate’s withdrawal for Everton provided an additional blow for those with the Bench Boost in play – an early marker for Saturday’s misery.

Today’s events included a variety of cruel twists.

Manchester City’s failure to keep a clean sheet, together with Kevin De Bruyne’s blank, provided immediate irritation.

That was followed by Victor Anichebe’s injury and Jordan Pickford’s one-point return, before today’s arch villains – Southampton – provided the coup de grace.

Having shaken off his tinkerman moniker, Saints boss Claude Puel regressed to punish our Bench Boost ambitions with seven changes.

Manolo Gabbiadini and Dusan Tadic were nowhere to be seen, Jack Stephens sat unused on the bench. Then Middleborough played their part, notching an improbable consolation goal to snatch the points from the Southampton assets that remained.

Stoke City’s Peter Crouch then provided a sucker punch, quite literally, to deprive us of an Arsenal clean sheet and apply more salt to today’s wound.

Even this evening’s 12-point contribution from Alexis Sanchez, backed by over 450,000 with the captaincy, was a silver lining that had its cloud, the Chilean limping from the bet365 turf to cast doubt over his start against Sunderland in midweek.

He played on and scored while carrying the knock – an apparent thigh injury, perhaps a dead leg. We now have to hope that Sanchez has the opportunity to run at the Black Cats defence on Tuesday. With him, Gameweek 37 could yet deliver for so many.

Elsewhere today, it was perhaps typical that it was left to a pair of single fixture assets to provide some comfort, Swansea City’s Fernando Llorente and the prolific Josh King of Bournemouth repaying those who kept faith amid the clamour for twin-fixture targets.

The last two days provide a sobering reminder of how we can overplay the potential of a double Gameweek. But we’ll doubtless do it all over again, and also have to remain optimistic on what remains of Gameweek 37.

There are still many fixtures to be played out and, in all likelihood, further unexpected plot twists to come – some of which will hopefully turn more favourably for us Fantasy managers.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

My -12 is currently on -11 - PVA's score (hopefully 2ptr or less). Would be in the top 50k without it but look....

So Kompany, Holding and Pickford to score 13+ pts seem likely?

Haha I'm on 60k. Would have bumped into the top 50k had I skipped those hits but they all have another game so all isn't lost.

Plenty discussions to be had with us over the pre season then.

Did you see my thoughts on a bench boost strategy? Just daydreaming really, it could work though.. Very 1st comment on the Arsenal dugout discussion last night

The really bad bit is I was trying to go diff with (C) pick against ML leader and forgot the slightly important fact that he played BB back on 33. Worse that forgetting to play chip fail.

No I did BB. Forgot rival BB weeks ok. So I was going diff when safe was the way to go. I have better team and team value so no need for diff when adding my extra BB chip into the equation. Major fail.

Ok it's a bit of a could of should have would have post. But 5 weeks ok my gut for 37 was Bat and Giroud cause surely they would get minutes end of season / rotation. Did I do it. No. Go with your gut works sometimes.

I know. My gut into gw27 (weeks beforehand) I was all set to get Barnes and Mawson.

Didn't get either as Llorente scored the week before. Llorente came off in gw27 after 15mins and Barnes got a 9ptr.

Bit hindsight but I should have stuck with my original plan

Ya but so much planning ahead goes into weeks like these. Fair enough, one week, you have a free transfer and you have a gut feeling, you don't or you don't, it works or it doesn't.

But with weeks like these, you could be set on these guys for weeks in advance and be put off by last week's scores, it sticks a little more than just your regular weekly transfer

Just an example how you can develop a bad "gut feeling":

Say you do a risky move that has a negative expectation in the long run, but you get lucky the first time you try it. You do it a second time and it works again (It's still a bad move, you just got lucky 2 times in a row). Now you might continue doing this move/moves in the future thinking they work, but in reality they have a negative expectation, so most of the time you do them you actually lose points.

The same goes for the reversal - you do a good move, but it backfires. It doesn't mean it's a bad move - you'll just have to try it out a few more times.

The problem in this game is that we only get to do around 70-100 transfers (depending on play-style and WC included) in a season. This is a pretty low volume for a whole season, so identifying the truly "bad" or "good" moves is actually really tough.

Just be really critical of every move you make. (and do follow your gut)

I total agree. It's so easy to be nagative about decision fails and the successes are easily forgotten. Ok another example of what FPL boils down to it trying to beat the bookies every week on CS and goalscorer prediction but they got hundreds to pick from but you only got 15

I am doing my own analysis of the top overall top 10 this year. Common themes from previous years seems to be lack of hits and a good 15 rather that a good 11 and then benching the right ones each week. Anyone agree with FPL101 analysis or something I am missing?

But it's to be expected that managers at the very top will have made fewer transfers. Although there is something of a correlation, I don't think making fewer transfers is necessarily going to lead to a high rank. It's more a question of planning well, making better judged transfers and not making too many knee jerks. I'm sure that if I had followed these principles I would have done much better.

The top few as a rule will always have fewer transfers. This does not mean that transfers are bad. (Incorrect conclusion)

You want to maximise your points by having the best players. If you can do this without taking hits then you will be at the top.

However if you don't have the right players but minimise hits you will be miles behind the person who took an extra couple of hits to get in the right players.

TLDR: hits are not always bad

Alexis is one of the most durable players in the world and an absolute beast so when he's asking to be subbed the alam bells have to be ringing.
Everton and Chelsea should be the priorities and Arsenal should be utterly ashamed if they can't beat Sunderland without him, rest could well be incoming.

I think he must have some agreement made with Wenger that if the game is won and he feels anything, to come off as a precaution. It can't have been that serious if he went onto score.

Played 25+mins with a swollen ankle (where he was clearly limping) before jetting off to Chile to play 180mins and back to start every game since.

I can't see him not playing.

Well Chelsea only managed a goal against them and you're usually tighter away from home. Should have Evans back also.

Can see Aguerro starting with DeBruyne playing deeper and sending the ball into the channels for Sané to go on an assist Kun or Jesus.

Had a poor game against Leicester, I wouldn't even say he's nailed on tbh with the form Silva is in

    24 - Lukaku
    21 - Kane , Sanchez
    20 - Costa
    18 - Aguero
    17 - Alli

Alli has aimed for 20 goals this season. It still possible for him to make it. Btw, I do really hope Kane and Sanchez to get more goals and get motivated to challenge Lukaku.

Cheers Jafooli...it's a real tale of woe 🙂

        I was involved in Holgate-gate

        Alonso did well.

Costa did nothing other than got drunk after the game on Friday...probably won't play again

Fabregas was the best player on the pitch by a country mile...no FPL returns.

Swapped Sane for KDB and captained KDB...that went well...2pts from Kevin, loads from Sane.

        No CS for Willy

At least Jesus stole Yaya's penalty!

Josh King was as reliable as ever

Jack Stephens...inexplicably benched...swapped out Yoshida for him recently...at least they didn't get the CS in the end...serves Puel right

And then there was the Arsenal game...sigh.

Had triple Arsenal defence on the back of recent resilience and low-scoring wins.

Gibbs inexplicably got injured after the GW deadline...didn't feature.

Stayed away from Holding cos he wouldn't have played without this mysterious injury to Gibbs and Ox.

Monreal was dangerous all night...headed against the post, should've scored...but no attacking returns in the end.

Gone without Sanchez for a long time now...it's worked so far. Yes...he gets an injury after an hour, signals to the bench he's coming off...awesome! Then stays on 2min longer, scores a goal and gets baps 🙁

Nevermind...still got Cech and Monreal CS to fall back on...

Then Peter Crouch volleyball spiked home a goal...FFS!!!!
