Marko Arnautovic gets his first minutes for West Ham in a defeat in Germany, while Leicester City’s drab pre-season continues with a goalless encounter at Milton Keynes.

Here are the notes from a low-key Friday.

Werder Bremen 1 West Ham United 0

Marko Arnautovic made his West Ham debut in a narrow loss to a German outfit they will face again today to conclude a two-legged Betway Cup affair.

The summer signing, fit again after a knee injury, played the final 30 minutes against Bremen and showed flashes of attacking threat from his position on the left-hand side of a front three.

Coach Slaven Bilic named a youthful starting XI, with six players aged no more than 21, while all seven of the substitutes he used are expected to start the second leg today.

Another likely to be given pitch-time will be Joe Hart. His rival for the keeper’s jersey, Adrian, played the full 90 minutes on Friday and distinguished himself with a fine double save in the second half.

Club captain Mark Noble lasted just over half an hour of the match before sustaining an ankle injury, while new signing Javier Hernandez played no part at all despite joining up with his new side’s training camp in Germany.

Bilic will hope the Mexican striker gets up to speed quickly as West Ham are currently desperately short of forward options following the sale of Ashley Fletcher, owned by 5.7% of Fantasy Premier League managers, to Middlesbrough.

The coach did, however, give an injury update on key attacking players Andy Carroll and Michail Antonio, who was used as a makeshift striker by the Croatian for some of last season.

“He (Antonio) is ahead of the plan. The plan is for him to miss the first game of the season. Andy is still not able to train with the team. I am frustrated he cannot play, now he is still injured and it is a big loss for us.”

West Ham XI: Adrian; Burke (Arnautovic, 60), Byram (Zabaleta, 60), Collins (Fonte, 60), Cresswell (Masuaku, 60); Cullen (Fernandes, 60), Holland (Snodgrass, 60), Makasi, Martinez (Ayew, 60), Noble (Obiang, 34), Rice.

MK Dons 0 Leicester City 0

Leicester City continued to underwhelm in front of goal with another toothless pre-season performance.

Having sneaked past Luton 1-0 in midweek, Craig Shakespeare’s men went one worse against MK Dons, although his side was picked with another friendly, at Wolves today, very much in mind.

Shakespeare trialled a 4-3-3 formation at Milton Keynes, welcoming back Demarai Gray and Ben Chilwell from extended breaks after their summer involvement with the England U21 side.

“We played a 4-3-3 with three midfielders. We tried to play with a sitter if you like and play through the centre. Matty James swapped with Vicente [Iborra] at half-time to get his fitness levels up.”

Summer signing Iborra again impressed in midfield, but fluffed a chance when put through during his spell playing in a more advanced position after the interval.

Gray has been tipped as a potential break-out player this season should Riyad Mahrez, as expected, leave the club, and he and Tom Lawrence played either side of Leonardo Ulloa up front for the Foxes.

Full-back Daniel Amartey was used at centre-half by Shakespeare, who chose to keep another new signing, keeper Eldin Jakupovic, on the bench as he made no substitutions during the match.

An entirely different City squad, including the majority of their more established stars, will head to Molineux to face Wolves this afternoon.

Leicester City XI: Hamer; Johnson, Benalouane, Amartey, Chilwell; Iborra, King, James; Lawrence, Gray, Ulloa.
Subs not used: Jakupovic, Elder, Ndukwu, Musa.

Will be interesting how he does. He seemed like a luxury player last season, some brilliance and some terrible play but then again he was given limited mins

What's the general consensus on Aguero? I can't see past him for that price and looks like Pep wants to play him along-side Jesus. If Iheanacho goes, which looks likely, wont that cement him even more?

If B.Silva wants to play CM and that's where Pep wants to play him, which he said he does - Wheres the rotation risk for Sergio?

            31 scored, 8 missed.
Not the best but certainly not the worst. 5 of those were all from 2016 which was admittedly a pretty torrid year from the spot for him.
I suppose it's up in the air a bit. Not sure I would jump straight to a kid who hasn't even taken a penalty for City or in a decent league before.

If Pep plays 4-1-4-1 or 4-2-3-1, Jesus seems more likely than Aguero to be that 1.

A little unsure on him too but I don't see a better value striker than him, apart from Austin. He also strikes me as fairly fixture proof, lots of goals against Chelsea. Benching for GW1 and then starting.

Loving that defense-goalkeeper combo too! I think the midfield is solid as well.

      Quite similar to my 5-2-3

      Forster (Elliot)
      Kolasinac, Kompany, Danilo, Trippier, Lindelof
De Bruyne, Zaha (Ritchie, Carroll, RLC)
      Kane (c), Lukaku (vc), Austin

Danilo and Lindelof are provisional place-holders for Cedric and Mendy. Riychie ca come in if Austin is dropped or a defender has a bad fixture.

Fixtures don't mean anything, especially with new managers, especially at start of season. You will probably end up benching the wrong keeper.so many did last year. Ddg is at the back of a proven defensive manager in the premier league. I no I'd rather back man utd clean over southy or west brom. What's your plan if two strikers are on fire of high quality. Like kane/laca/jesus/kun/morata?

I'll consider it, I just really like the idea of Forster+Cedric double CS. Figure Foster will be on the bench most of the time, rising in value. Also, will De Gea get enough save points?

    So.
Are you lads the type to blindly back your club teams players in your fantasy team, or are you the skeptical type who is always short on confidence because you've seen their errors in more detail and can't get them out of your head?
    Unfortunately I'm the latter.

Anyone else doubling up on Eriksen and Alli? Can't look past how much value they are.

He'll be left centre back, only chance of playing wing back if Kolasinac's injured.

Masuaku with the assist. One to watch for gw4 WC. Pretty sure he's ahead of Cresswell now. 4.5

! for real ? Thats really good if hes improved that much
I know Cresswell dropped off badly after his injury, but Masuaka was no great shakes last year.

Damn. No Sako for Palace today and Mili playing in defence again.

Those two were my hopes for 5.0 mill picks.

Yeah we are concerned with Luka playing CB, he did actually play well there, but in interview after said he doesn't like playing there.

He's a good player. Any player that can play well in more than one position is a real bonus.

Heavy front 3 RMT draft I've just tried. Thoughts?
      A lot of sacrifices imo.

      Foster (Elliot)
      Hegazi Trippier Cedric (Dunk 4.0)
      KDB Zaha Willian Milivojevic (Carroll)
      Kane Lukaku Jesus

KDB takes up too much funds

      Foster
