It’s time to focus on the captaincy conundrum for the weekend’s ten fixtures.

As always, we check the Opta data for the main contenders and assess the team statistics and Rate My Team’s (RMT) reckoning before offering up some differential captains in light of the data analysis.

The Captain Poll

Spurs, Manchester City and Manchester United dominate our Gameweek 3 Captain Poll, with each supplying three of the top nine players.

A home clash with Burnley elevates Harry Kane to the summit for the first time this season.

Sold by over 120,000 FPL managers this week, the Spurs frontman earns 36% of the votes cast despite failing to score in the first two fixtures.

Sean Dyche’s side kept just four clean sheets on their travels last season and conceded an attempt on goal every 4.8 minutes away from home – only relegated Sunderland boasted a worse record.

Despite supplying the assists for all three of his side’s goals this season, Christian Eriksen has convinced just 4% to consider his armband potential.

Meanwhile, a mere 2% are backing Dele Alli for the Wembley clash. Only Eden Hazard (12 to nine) scored more times in front of their own fans among FPL midfielders in 2016/17.

With 28% of the votes, Romelu Lukaku is regarded as Kane’s only real rival as Man United welcome Leicester City to Old Trafford.

Now up to a massive 57% ownership in Fantasy Premier League (FPL), the Belgian bagged a brace on his home debut and followed that up with a strike away to Swansea City last Saturday.

Jose Mourinho’s side have scored four times in both fixtures so far and face a Foxes defence that have shipped at least two goals in five of their seven away matches under Craig Shakespeare.

This also brings Paul Pogba (3%) and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (2%) into consideration, with both outscoring Lukaku over United’s opening pair of matches.

Ranked joint-top of the FPL standings on the back of a goal and two assists, Pogba has been acquired by a massive 398,000+ managers since last weekend.

Meanwhile, the Armenian has racked up four assists and served up double figures in both appearances.

Man City roll up to Bournemouth on the back of a fine away record – they scored more goals on their travels (43) than any side last season.

Yet their slow start to the current campaign means that Sergio Aguero (3%), Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne (both 2%) are largely ignored.

Off the mark at Brighton in Gameweek 1, Aguero netted twice on five separate occasions away from home last term and scored more goals on the road (15) than any other forward.

Hauled off at the break on Monday as City regrouped following Kyle Walker’s dismissal, Jesus netted in all but one of his four away appearances last season.

Meanwhile, De Bruyne’s total of seven efforts on goal is ranked top for Pep Guardiola’s men – though all but one has been fired from range.

Elsewhere, a handful of in-form differentials could emerge as very canny picks.

West Ham’s Javier Hernandez bagged a brace away to Southampton and now pays visit to Newcastle United’s patched-up rearguard.

Chelsea’s two-goal Marcos Alonso entertains an Everton side that he scored against in a 5-0 win at the Bridge last year.

And Liverpool’s Sadio Mane scored in both clashes with visitors Arsenal in 2016/17 and has found the net in each of the opening two Gameweeks.

Like the look of Erik in my team. Four one to spurs would be nice with Kane Hattie ,one for Erik and two assists.Kane assisting Erik for his too.

Lanzini will get a 20-30 minute cameo this week.. From next week he should be at the top of everyone's watchlists. I'm gonna try to have both of them. Still have a slight doubt regarding Ramseys place in the team tbh.. He is brilliant for fantasy.. But he leaves such space in the middle that surely he could be dropped for an elneny type player against tougher opposition.

I don't understand why arsenal are ready to offload Mustafi, I mean their Central defenders are either all over 30(koscielny/mertasaker) or championship players(holding)...he is the only one fit to carry them forward for the next few seasons. Surely they should be looking to sign a CB not sell the only decent one they have. This is baffling to me.

Personally I think Pogba is a bandwagon that will slow down after a few weeks, while I think Mkhi almost will continue averaging an assist per game until CL rotation starts

Mkhi, more attacking, almost plays as a second striker. People say Pogba is nailed etc but i feel like Mkhi has nailed his place in the starting XI too, especially after Mourinho's comments.

I think, depending on how any given game is going, Pogba could be forced back into the pivot if Utd are coming under attack. Mkhi, provided he's still on the pitch, is always going to be in and around the opponent's box. For the tomorrow's game specifically, if Vardy is on form then Pogba might not have the freedom to roam that he had in the last game.

    6. Stinglikeabee

I think Pogba will be the new Yaya/ramsey this year, will venture forward a lot waaak at weak teams and a Aries threat, Mkhitaryan could be a hit or miss, if he can nail down that spot which has a lot of competition and inevitable rotation due to UCL, he can be like erksen/Alli last season. Both good choices imo

Here's the link before anyone jumps on that...

      https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/aug/25/bournemouth-manchester-city-match-preview

Not sure what they base this on. Surprised to see Mendy in that Guardian line-up too.

I guess a KdB benching is always possible and he's done it before, at Burnley, early last season.

However, with the break to come, I'd be very surprised.

      But then it's Pep.

Unlikely to happen imo KDB too integral to miss out. I expect Sterling to start up front with aguero and Jesus dropped to the bench.

Mendy could get 1 hour if ready to play.

Totally agree about Kolasinac, he's looked good when he's not even played in the right position!

Good luck all - on this for the weekend:

      Elliot / Spero
Alonso Dawson Bertie / Suttner 4.0
Richarlison Fraser KdB Pogba / TC
      Kane (c) Kaku Gabbi

-4 taken; Alonso, Pog and Richarlison in for Kola, Salah and Willian. Probably going to bite me but Pog and Alonso season keepers (barring injury/being dropped) so it felt worth getting both at the starting price (got Pog in last Sat night)

Eriksen is a season keeper imo. Much better for baps as well. Mane need to get almost 50 % more attacking points to match Eriksen's score. That being said, I'll get Mane (have Eriksen) in gw5

Eriksen if you want to hedge against a big Spurs win I guess. Toss a coin in terms of points though.

      Begovic (Elliott)
      Hegazi, Lowe, Stephens (Suttner, Long)
      KDB, Willian, Redmond, Miki (Carrol)
      Lukaku, Kane (c), Firmino

      GTG?

      Was thinking:

      Willian + Redmond > Antonio + Richarlison (-4)

Or hold, I do fancy Antonio going forward

Bavies will have company once Rose is healthy. And right now, Trippier does not have company.

On a wildcard with enough funding for bailly or jones. Is jones worth keeping for the long term?
