The Manchester clubs are united in tormenting Fantasy Football managers.

In fairness, we should have expected Pep Guardiola’s City teamsheet to prove a source of frustration. It should come as no real surprise.

Even so, he seems determined to baffle us.

Having withdrawn Gabriel Jesus at half-time on Monday night following Kyle Walker’s dismissal, it appeared to signal that Guardiola’s affections were leaning towards Sergio Aguero for the lone striker role.

But just six days later, it was Aguero who made way as the City manager shuffled his formation and personnel in a bid to solve the frustration of Monday’s misses.

Aguero travelled to the Vitality Stadium today on the back of seven goals in his last seven away trips. He was backed by over 265,000 (5.7%) Fantasy Premier League managers with the captaincy.

Inevitably, Jesus took his opportunity to justify his selection. He served up his first goal of the season at Bournemouth having been sold by over 119,000 managers, triggering a 0.1 drop in price.

To make matters worse Aguero, along with today’s other omission from Monday’s teamsheet – John Stones – were both introduced from the bench by Guardiola. Auto-subs and Vice Captains were nullified.

City’s formation change – a move to 4-3-3 – also saw Kevin De Bruyne retreated alongside David Silva and Fernandinho as part of a central three.

That role muted his goal threat and again left him probing around the fringes of City’s 2-1 victory.

Statistically, the Belgian was still the most creative player in Gameweek 3 so far, providing four chances and laying on a big chance for Nicolas Otemendi who struck the post.

But those brief flashes will be lost on his Fantasy owners. They will continue to plot the exit of a 10.0 priced asset that has delivered three successive blanks. De Bruyne has already been sold more than any other player since the passing of today’s deadline.

As for United, while they engineered a 2-0 victory over a stubborn Leicester City at Old Trafford, Fantasy managers were left smarting by Romelu Lukaku’s penalty miss.

It remains to be seen if this dents Lukaku’s stock. There will be an ongoing debate on whether he will retain spot-kicks and whether Paul Pogba could be the beneficiary in waiting.

But for now, we can only consider what comes next in this current Gameweek.

Captained by over 1.7 million (37.3%) FPL managers, Lukaku’s zero point return sat alongside Aguero’s failing and a first blank from Pogba to set up Sunday’s performers.

Spurs’ Harry Kane now heads into a Wembley date with Burnley sporting over 741,000 armbands. Some 53% of his 1.3 million owners have trusted him as their skipper.

Confidence in Kane has been dented following his two single point returns, but now the scene is set for him to deliver the season’s first major twist.

A double-figure tally would cause a significant swing. Couple that with an impressive performance from Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and it would represent a turning point that could spark transfer hits and Wildcards aplenty.

While Saturday disappointed, it means that Sunday could be huge for all kinds of reasons.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Today feels like it's nicely set up for a monster Kane haul.

Question to the Kane cappers, would you be happy with a brace today or are you expecting more?

sorry Kingston but how would we know this......? its like that Mane thing 2 weeks ago nothing else ....since VVD is not more welcome in the squad, Stephens did a fine job imo... he is a bonus point magnet .... so with hoed coming in, it could be for rotation issues to give yoshida and stephens a break sometimes but only time will tell. what the real reasons are i mean there are clubs who buying 100 millon pound worth of CB's and they just sitting on the bench very unpredictable imo. stephens is as nailed as yoshida is..... but this is just my opinnion ......good luck to you kingston 🙂

In the comments side bar this cut off as 'the perfect con.'

I captained Lukaku over him. But I think if he blanks I will have to sell, need funds...except I have no target in mind. Need Laca to step up, maybe Sanchez will help him.

I will WC pretty late for me. I've never had it this long before!

Absolute stinker of a season so far for me, really need a brace minimum from Kane today.

Am I the only one not going near Sanchez with a barge pole?!

He is far too expensive & with Lacazette & GRU he's not going to get to play up front, or likely even take pens. Surely if you want to spend big on Arsenal you get Lacazette? And if you want to spend big in midfield you get one of Hazard/Mané/Alli/Eriksen?

Really don't get the hype this year. But bookmark this post for his inevitable hattrick later 🙂

I'm not getting Sanchez. Or Kane. Both too expensive for me. Yes they can haul. But to me Alli + Eriksen better than Kane + 5.5m. Similarly Mkhi + Pogba better than Lukaku + 4.5m.

The ideal midfield at the moment seems to be Alli - Eriksen - Mkhi - Pogba - Mane.

I'm nearly with you. He is far too expensive - apart from the handful of weeks in the season where he gets close to 20 points.

Looking at the fixture ticker though, I think he is the best captain pick in about 3 out of the next 5 gameweeks.

Anyone looked around at the YouTube videos on fpl. Some quite amusing ones out there. Found this guy the other day he looks like tom cruise in top gun selecting his team with shades on you'd think he was villle bloody ronka. He took Alonso out for a hit then bought him back in for a hit. The videos seem to have dried up funnily enough. Taken about 24 points hits so far I think

      Sigh

Find a group that follows U23s instead. More fun.

There's a great group that do so for Spurs

There's another guy who seems quite reputable, does a decent show a bit like Andy but his ranks are like in the millions. Don't get it. Maybe ffs just makes life easy

Rumours that migolet will be dropped for karius today. Shame he's 4.9 and not 4.5 but to be fair no one wants a Liverpool defender

Defenders are ruling FPL at the moment. So many clean sheets

In seasons gone past it was difficult to get them

Good point I have started well as I am playing 4 at the back.

To be honest i thought with all money and new attacking players in the league we would see less clean sheets... strange start

The crap teams are keeping clean shets against each other because they are crap. The good teams are keeping clean sheets against the crap teams because the crap teams are crap.
