Are Harry Kane and Romelu Lukau about to make this season very dull?

Many of us marvelled at the array of attacking options we faced prior to Gameweek 1 and, even today, the choices showed up; goals for Alexandre Lacazette, Gabriel Jesus and Alvaro Morata demonstrated that.

But there is already a feeling of inevitability about the fact that Lukaku and Kane have dominated as the top two captain picks for four successive Gameweeks.

The Spurs’ striker’s “mini drought” ended today at Goodison Park – perhaps the least likely venue for a haul when we studied his opening four Gameweeks. But the Toffees were poor and simply folded to an impressive Spurs display.

Now, with the next four fixtures looking so favourable Mauricio Pochettino’s side, Kane’s bandwagon will surely gather pace, stalled only by the fact that 30% of Fantasy Premier League managers may be otherwise distracted by replacing the suspended Sadio Mane in midfield.

It now seems only a matter of time before Kane’s 26% ownership rises and starts to reach levels similar to that of Lukaku.

The Manchester United striker was hardly spectacular at Stoke but, again, he found the net and could have scored more. Owned by 58%, if he remains free of injury, it’s feasible that he could even span the entire season as the go-to captain option for the majority of managers; 37% backed him today, with Kane back on 11%.

With the Wildcard active, I pondered losing one of this pair – temporarily gambling on Lacazette outscoring Kane today and paying the price.

I’m not sure I want to taste that medicine again. Fortunately, the funds have been reserved to bring in the Spurs man ahead of Gameweek five, and he’ll be locked in from now on.

Indeed, I’m now wondering if that means that the scope of my attacking changes this season will be limited to my third striker and an occasional shuffle of three big-hitters in midfield.

My faith in Kane is pretty much unshakable once the goals start rolling. Meanwhile, Lukaku looks likely to keep scoring merely by turning up to lead a United attack powered by Paul Pogba’s physicality and fed by Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s guile.

We can flirt with alternative options, even experiment with the captaincy from time to time, but giving up on the security on offer from Lukaku and Kane won’t be easy.

The aforementioned Jesus, Lacazette and Morata all have their merits. The latter is now the top scoring striker but, presumably surrendering spot-kick duties to Eden Hazard, I’m not convinced he or even Jesus can live with the “big two”.

I’m preparing to watch Kane and Lukaku dominate, push 30 goals and battle for the Golden Boot. That would tie up 24 million of my budget over the season and restrict my ability to react to the big-hitter bandwagons in midfield.

My season might be limited to switching Spurs, Liverpool and United midfielders to form, and shuffling some defenders according to fixtures.

That doesn’t sound all that appealing, but I’m not sure when I’ll next have the balls to change it.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Would you do Suttner -> Davies for a -4 hit?

Brighton are playing Bournemouth next week, but Spurs look really good.

I'd say yes if you don't have any other issues. Spurs have a nice run and I think you'd get the 4 points back quite soon

No. If he keeps a cs then you make nothing because you've used it on the hit. You would need attacking returns which will not come every week

Will probably want to get Firmino in for Hernandez next GW.. Is PVA the obvious downgrade to free up cash (Naughton in)? Or Ramsey -> Choupo-Moting to catch some good price rises and a possible bargain?

    Foster
    Lowe - Jones - Davies
    Eriksen - Mkhi - Ramsey - Richarlison
    Lukaku - Kane - Hernandez

    Elliot - PVA - Carroll - Mbemba

    2FT, 0.7 ITB
    Jones - Lowe -

    Foster (Elliot)
    Bertrand Stephens Suttner Daniels (Mee)
    Salah Mhki Redmond Eriksen (Carroll)
    Lukaku Kane (Quaner)

    2 FT & 1.0 ITB

Not really sure what to do this week. Maybe a few transfers to do Quaner to Firmino but it seems like I'd probably be ruining my team a bit.

Maybe one defensive transfer like Suttner to Jones and carry the 2 FT into next week.

54 with T.Carroll and Heaton to play. Willian needs to go now from my squad:

    Heaton
    Davies - Bailly - Kolasinac
    Mkhi - Eriksen - Carroll - Alli - Willian
    Lukaku(c) - Firmino

    Foster - Yoshida - Clark - McBurnie

Are Sanchez and Hazard going to bang enough that you can't bang without them for less?

They would have to go some to make them worth it over Alli, Eriksen, Mane, Salah, Pogba or Mikhi etc and that's without Siggy joining the party.

They seek ideal for those without Kane and Lukaku but if you have both, they'll need to score double digits weekly to justify making the rest of your team like something out of the poundshop.

If 10 is the number which marks the perfection of Divine order, then 11 is an addition to it, subversive of and undoing that order. If 12 is the number which marks the perfection of Divine government, then eleven falls short of it. So that whether we regard it as being 10+1 , or 12-1, it is the number which marks disorder, disorganization, imperfection, and disintegration - Dionysus if you will.

Im taking that metaphor, superstition and number play and applying it to the frustration its going to cause owning salah literally. Impulsively you will want to get rid everytime he suffers rotation. He played well yesterday and yet was still hauled off at half time. Might be ok whilst Mane is suspended but with coutinho back and oxlaide chamberlain bought, plus firminos ability to play wide Salah is going to cause a lot of frustrations for people when hes not on the pitch. Alli is absolutely nailed.

Ben Davies.... Top of defenders for chances created by a distance. Average position further forward than Trippier. With Rose seemingly a way off returning, is there a better value defender than him in the game right now?

Thinking about using my 2 FT to work him in for Trippier. Annoyingly I'd have to free up the 0.2m from somewhere.

How long is Rose injuried for as I am considering Ben Davies?

I'd go with Davies. There is no way Rose walks back into that position. Davies has been to good.

He has been out for 9 months he isn't training yet. How long will it take him to get fitness up so he can start a PL match, the fastest paced league in the world? A month? Even if he started training today

Very good point. Rose seems to have always been injured with setbacks on this recovery. B Davis looks safe

It's at least a month away.

TBH, Bavies is surely first choice now over Rose...he's been excellent

Morning all. I'd like to do:

      Willian -> Pogba
      Fraser -> 5.5 (ish - maybe Choupo-Moting)

I'm slightly short though with only 1m in the bank. Is it worth downgrading Kolasinac to Bavies tonight for the extra? Leaves me without any Arsenal cover though.

I have Yoshi and not sure what to do. I believe he was rested nad since Saints lost I think there is a good chance him playing next week.

Possible (-4) with 2 FTs to give my squad far greater balance:

Alonso, JWP and Kun to Davies, Pogba and Morata.

Obviously I won't do it before the midweek games but would you pull the trigger on this?

Good moves on paper for sure, BUT, Kun & Alonso could really make you regret that.. like 20 point swing regret.

Exactly my fear, I'll no doubt go for something uninspiring like Bertrand and/or JWP to Davies and/or Chupo-Moting for free. It doesn't help with my midfield balance but it'll give another week to reassess.

Even Bertrand to Davies could backfire... Davies could get injured champs lge/Rose could return, and Bertrand is well capable of 9 points v a poor palace side. Hard to know!

I think my decision to not have Lukuka or Kane this season is going to make for some hard pills to swallow.

      anyone planning on keeping Willian?

Do we think he was dropped or just rested? not use if a hit is worth it to take him out and hard finding a solid replacement in that price bracket?

Already gonna do Stephens to Bavies with my FT
