Both Liverpool and Stoke City look set to go into Gameweek 6 with a host of defensive concerns.

Meanwhile, Swansea City boss Paul Clement is mulling over a first start for Wilfried Bony for the visit of Watford to the Liberty Stadium.

Dejan Lovren is a major doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Leicester with a back problem, while Joel Matip and Emre Can are also nursing knocks, though the latter was pictured in training on Thursday. Sadio Mane serves the final fixture of his three-match suspension in the visit to the King Power. Jurgen Klopp may now be forced to field a makshift backline, with Joe Gomez retained in a central role following his EFL Cup outing and Trent Alexander-Arnold returning at right-back.

Earlier this morning, Stoke manager Mark Hughes conceded that he has a number of problems in defence ahead of the home meeting against Chelsea. Geoff Cameron and Ryan Shawcross are definitely out due to injury, Kurt Zouma is ineligible to face his parent club, while Kevin Wimmer is rated as “touch and go” after sustaining a hamstring injury. Hughes could now look to both Erik Pieters and Glen Johnson as stand-in centre-backs should he retain a three-man defence.

Swansea City head coach Paul Clement has revealed that Wilfried Bony is in contention to make his first league start of the season against Watford.

But Hornets defenders Sebastian Prodl and Younes Kaboul remain sidelined for the Liberty Stadium visit and Miguel Britos is still suspended.

Pedro Obiang and James Collins will both miss the home clash with Spurs, but Mark Noble is available again. Manuel Lanzini is back in training, but this weekend is too early for the Argentine.

Jonathan Walters is expected to miss Burnley’s home meeting with Huddersfield Town due to a knee problem.

And the Terriers will be without midfielder Danny Williams for the Turf Moor encounter due to a broken bone in his foot. Summer signing Steve Mounie misses out once again due to a heel problem, with Laurent Depoitre expected to shrug off a muscle problem to deputise up front.

Tyrone Mings has been ruled out for around two months with a back injury, but Junior Stanislas returns to contention as Bournemouth make their way to Everton.

Mauricio Pellegrino will decide today what part Virgil van Dijk will play in the home meeting with Manchester United. Matt Targett (ankle) looks set to miss out, though Charlie Austin is fit and available to challenge Shane Long for a start up front.

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Izzy Brown has returned to training this week following a hamstring injury and could be named in the squad for the home clash against Newcastle United.

Mesut Ozil looks to have a good chance of being fit for Monday night’s home fixture against West Bromwich Albion following a knee problem, but Calum Chambers and Danny Welbeck are both ruled out until after the international break.

.1 short of my wildcard team. Can get the team i want if i get in elliot + Pereira. The only problem is that this is a utd slot - should i be worried if i have Jones and Lukaku and cant get a utd mid in the future?

    1. bojack
      • 9 Years

Given United's fixtures after the break, probably not. But it's hardly ideal longer term.

    2. AndyCook
        8 years, 3 months ago

Not sure it's an issue short term but if you wildcard you are unlikely to want to spend a transfer swapping Pereira out later. I'd rather a 3.9 defender if you have a 4 defender personally. Or a 4.4 mid or forward if you are playing 4 at the back.

Haha, I have the same line-up up front.

I decided to get Silva instead of Aguero - planning to keep the three up front as is. I don't trust Pep to play the same players every week, and we've been burnt before so best to be safe

With these three though, I think it's a ballsy call to go for Morata

I've captained Morata, I also have Kane in my team. Personally I wouldn't captain Lukaku this week, I think he got lucky with how many points he got against Everton, Southampton have a good defence all round.
It's tough between Kane and Morata, because I think Morata will be a consistent 1 goal a game sort of player, which doesn't make for a great captain choice. Where as Kane has the potential to net a hatty each game. However, this week I've gone for Morata, as I have Erikson and am avoiding putting my egg's in a spurs basket, derbies can go either way.

First transfer is IMO the best

              I'm seriously considering the following:

Coutinho and Rosenior to Fàbregas and Kolasinac for -4

Exact funds to do it. Good moves or bad?

Ritchies stats aren't on a par with Fabs. Cheers for the suggestion though.

Unfortunately, when you buy a player you don't inherit their points total.

                Coutinho is worth holding now
He is gonna be on his top form back soon

This is my worry. If you include Coutinho' first half midweek stats with last game week, he's well up there for chances created and attempts on goal.

Ha, three different responses and a Ritchie thrown in for good measure.

                Transfer a different defender.

Don't see that being a profitable transfer.

Stoke in crisis at the back. Morata (c) could be a masterstroke this GW.

              Sorry repost:

              Trippier or Sànchez

This is for a draft team

Got a feeling Sanchez is nailed but Tripper will either play or not (no risk of cameos) so if you've got the bench got to be Trip.

              Elliot
              Davies Jones Naughton
              Eriksen Ritchie Mkhi Salah
              Morata Lukaku Firmino

              Foster Cork Cedric Rosenior

              1FT 0.2 ITB

              Choose 1:
              A. Mkhi > Silva
              B. Lukaku > Aguero
              C. Save FT

              Or any other recommendations?

Who to captain? Think C or D are worth a punt?
              A - Lukaku
              B - Jesus
              C - Wood
              D - Kolasinac
