One match remains in Gameweek 6, but we are already looking ahead to the weekend and the players under consideration for the armband in our latest Captain Poll.

The seemingly perfect alignment of form and fixture is set to propel Manchester United’s Romelu Lukaku (11.7) back to the summit ahead of Crystal Palace’s visit to Old Trafford on Saturday.

Owned by 55.8%, the Belgian’s successful strike away to Southampton at the weekend was his sixth of the campaign – and the fifth time in six outings that he has delivered attacking returns.

Meanwhile, the winless and goalless Eagles have conceded more big chances than any other team and, along with West Ham, have conceded 13 goals, again a Premier League low.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan (8.5) is another consistent performer in Jose Mourinho’s ranks who warrants interest after racking up attacking returns four times and delivering two double-digit hauls. The Armenian – who sits in a third of FPL teams – only mustered two chances against the Saints, but should be handed more opportunities against Roy Hodgson’s obliging backline.

It is also worth noting that in their last four league meetings at Old Trafford, the Red Devils have scored seven times without conceding. Palace are yet to score this season, perhaps even promoting Antonio Valencia and Phil Jones as differential captain options.

Back up front, a trip to Huddersfield Town hands Harry Kane (12.5) the chance to challenge at the top of this week’s poll given his incredible away form.

While the 22.5%-owned Tottenham talisman has failed to find the net at Wembley, he has proved devastating on the road, firing off more shots than any other player and racking up braces against West Ham on Saturday and Everton in Gameweek 4.

Kane now has 11 goals form his last five Premier League away trips.

However, with four clean sheets and just one goal conceded at home, against Leicester City in Gameweek 5, the Terriers could prove stubborn opponents.

Kane’s supporting midfield duo of Christian Eriksen (9.7), who scored against the Hammers on Saturday, and Dele Alli (9.5), who provided two assists, once again proved they are able deputies for those looking for alternative Spurs captaincy cover. The pair enjoy strong ownership, sitting in 27% and 30.4% of teams respectively.

Manchester City’s trip to Chelsea looks potentially tough on paper, but it could be unwise to overlook the Gameweek 6 poll winner Sergio Aguero (11.7), given that he has scored ten times in his 15 encounters with the London side in all competitions.

The Argentine’s place at the top of the FPL points table with 52, following his goal and assist against Palace at the weekend, are also strong factors in his favour. With 65,000+ transfers in since Saturday the FPL market is clearly optimistic he will maintain his recent output.

Among Chelsea options, Alvaro Morata (10.2) is looking impossible to overlook after his hat-trick against Stoke City. That put him level with Lukaku and Aguero on six goals and with more than 153,000 transfers-in, the Spaniard is currently this week’s most popular transfer target.

But perhaps his midfield team-mate Eden Hazard (10.5) could emerge as a stronger option, as he bids to make his first start of the season. The Belgian’s brace against City in this fixture last season certainly makes him a strong differential armband option. If he can deliver, his 3% ownership would surely spike dramatically over the international break.

Another midfielder returning to match fitness who could garner votes is Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez (11.9), who takes on a Brighton defence that has shipped four on the road this term.

His 2.4% ownership will be keeping a close eye on the Chilean’s performance in tonight’s final Gameweek 6 fixture, at home to West Brom. Impress tonight, and he could be worthy of a first FPL captaincy in a season that has been hindered by transfer speculation and injury.

Elsewhere, Bournemouth welcome Leicester City to the south coast in a fixture that presents further differential captaincy options: both teams are among the four worst sides in terms of conceding shots on goal.

Jamie Vardy (8.5) is undoubtedly the Foxes’ prime captaincy candidate. Despite his penalty miss against Liverpool on Saturday, the 11.3%-owned striker has still recorded five goals and earned bonus points on two occasions this term.

Cherries 2.2%-owned forward Josh King (7.2), who scored 16 times last season and finally got off the mark in 2017/18 with a goal at Everton, is another enticing alternative on our list.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under Recent Comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 7 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible†article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Team looks good. Firmino -> Vardy is a popular move atm. I think I prefer Vardy especially when you have Salah as well

Cheers - My thoughts too. Maybe hold Firmino against newcastle for 1 week and ditch to vardy if unimpressed. Foxes have a load of good fixtures, and Liverpool meet man u the week after

    Kane Lukaku Abraham

2 FT's so need to use one really but not sure where, see any potential improvements ?

Maybe downgrade Alonso, allowing more funds free to move closer to being able to afford an upgrade like Abraham to Vardy or Mkhitaryan to hazard sometime in coming weeks.

I'm thinking of the same. Probably downgrading Alonso for
          A) Kolasinac and cheap striker (Joselu) to Chicarito
          B) Cheap defender and Joselu to Vardy.

Alonso is still a good fpl player, but it's harder to find arguments for getting rid of Mkhitaryan, ERiksen, Salah, Silva etc.

Played my Wildcard last week, my former team had:

    Morata (3)
    Kane (2)
    Sane (2)
    Eriksen (1)
    Richarlison(1)

Only player I retained from these was Kane! bad times

Defence was okay but not great, I had been scoring poorly with the team and wasn't prepared to wait another week, the previous week Sane only came on for 15 mins and I wanted Aguero over Morata, i also wanted to get Lukaku in.

Typical that Sane and Morata explode after!

Don't disagree - ideally love to have both Salah and Silva. Salah will get the goals but Silva has proven his assist are just as valuable plus he is a bonus magnet.

Recent WC'ers or those planning in the next few weeks, who have/are you pairing with Elliot?

Not keen on picking another £4m keeper incase Darlow comes back in...

I'm thinking Fabianski but will he get us points in the games we play him? Foster, despite fixtures, plays in a Pulis team. Or maybe even Joe Hart if he drops to £4.4m.

West Ham have some decent fixture. Looking at Hart though I heard he's been rather poor. Fab is a fpl classic, always good for save points and a fair amount of cleanies. If you're looking for someone at 5.0 Pickford has some real nice fixture if Everton can clean up their act.

I went for Pickford a few weeks ago with an eye on the Everton fixtures. Their form since then hasn't inspired confidence in that idea, but still think he'll be worth some points over the coming weeks.

His good fixture start just started last week. In the next 7 or 8 gameweeks they have Arsenal and Lei and besides that I think you'll do well for cleanies.

Had Krul in my latest mock team. For Swansea I think I'll go Fernandez instead of Fabianski. Elliot is easy fire and forget for GW8-15. Only 1 really bad fixture, GW12 against Man U.

Yes. I'm with Kane, Jesus and Wood now. But getting Morata and always play 3 up front would be nice. I'd have to downgrade in midfield tho so I'm scouting Ramsey tonight.

    Elliot/Foster
    Alonso Hegazi Trippier Jones (Mbemba)

    Salah Richarlison DSilva (RLC Carrol)

    Lukaku Kane Firminio

    £1m ITB 2FTs

So plan is over next 2 game weeks to take out Lukaku, Firminio and Alonso for Morata, Aguero, Kolasinac

Morata probably going up in price the week so

Yeah, the negative thing would be that when he's starting on the bench, he would likely come on for a 1-point cameo and I couldn't make use of autosubs. Unlike defenders who are likely to stay on the bench if they start there.

OK, but not sure how much room for manoeuvre you have in that midfield - it may be wishful thinking assuming Pogba will be back for GW8, so if not what are your plans for a decent replacement at that price point?

    MEN
The France international had scans on the injury on Sunday, and they revealed no serious damage - and even if he does not make the European game, he is set to be fit for the trip to Chelsea at the weekend.

Are those with arsenal defence xhaka or Ramsey looking at big rank drops if they haul?

Why would someone drop in rank if their players haul? Hauling is a good thing.

    Foster,
    Zanka, Naughton, Cedric
    Mkhit, Silva, Salah, Eriksen
    Lukaku, Morata, Vardy

    Elliot, Rosenior, Mbemba, Carroll
    --------------------------------------------
Got 2 free transfers - what are the best options?

Mkhit, Zanka and Rosenior ---> Ritchie, Davies & Jones for a (-4) hit
or just Zanka ---> 4.5m def with better fixtures?

      Just Zanka

I've got a core squad that I'm happy with, but got a couple of options for the remainder of my wildcard

    A) Otamendi, Yoshida,Can and Vardy or

    B) Schindler, Hegazi, Carroll and Morata

So it's either stcaking the front line (already have Aguero and Kaku), or balancing a bit.I'm a bit torn as to where the points lie. Carroll and Can probably wouldn't play much, so it's really a question about which of the other 3 will pick up most points

After this gameweek, Is it time to transfer out Jones? Just for a few weeks? They have a few difficult fixtures in the space of a month. Liverpool (A), Spurs (H), Chelsea (A)

I'm thinking about bringing in Cresswell for a few weeks and then back to Jones when their fixtures are good again. What you recon?

Yea I'd say so. I'm not bringing him in on WC. Looking to get him when fixtures get better. Creswell / Soton / Maguire?

I think United might be the one team where you would be most inclined to leave defenders in for crappy fixtures. Mourinho turns top 6 clashes into really defensive affairs because he hates losing. I'd bet on a clean sheet in one of those

I was considering the same but like above, Jose is the one manager you would back to get a CS in tough games.

Think I'm sticking until we see rotation occur frequently or he gets injured.

I wouldn't be bringing him in now but I don't think I'm going to sell.

2 FTs. Is ditching Firmino a must?

    Elliot
    Alonso - Davies - Kolasinac - Simpson
    D.Silva - Mkhitaryan - Alli
    Vardy - Kane - Firmino

Mental to lose either of them for Morata this week. Just suck it up and take the price hit, it's not like you won't be able to transfer Kaku out for him a week later.

      You already missed 0,2.

Don't get him in just before match vs. City, when Lukaku got Palace (H) and Spurs got Huddersfield (A).
