Injuries

Reports surfacing this morning from Argentina have stated that Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero has been involved in a car accident and will face up to three months on the sidelines.

City have since confirmed the accident and have issued a statement indicating that the player is due back at the club for assessment prior to the weekend meeting with Chelsea. No details of his confirmed injuries are offered up at this stage, although a press conference today will surely shed light on the situation.

Aguero is said to have suffered a fractured rib having been a passenger in a taxi en route to the airport in Amsterdam when the vehicle lost control and struck a column on the side of the road.

Sources in Argentina have already said that the striker could miss six to eight weeks due to the injury, which would obviously rule him out of the Gameweek 7 clash and Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers to follow.

Notably, Independiente, Aguero’s former club, wished the striker a “speedy recovery” on social media.

The news will come as a major shock and blow to Manchester City who only yesterday confirmed that left-back Benjamin Mendy had suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury in the win over Crystal Palace.

Aguero was in superb form having struck a recent hat-trick at Watford in Gameweek 5, followed by an 11-point return with a goal and an assist against Palace last time out.

That form had triggered a huge rush of interest from Fantasy Premier League managers who had made Aguero the single biggest bandwagon of the season following his 20-point haul at Vicarage Road. Over 770,000 FPL managers swooped ahead of Gameweek 6.

The striker is currently part of 1.3 million squads, with his owners now waiting on further confirmation before doubtless moving to replace Aguero.

Gabriel Jesus – who was omitted from the Gameweek 6 line-up by manager Pep Guardiola – would seem assured of regular starts in the central striker role should Aguero’s injury be confirmed.

Equally, Raheem Sterling’s stock as a 7.9 midfield option would rise given his recent form, with continued starts more likely.

It’s an incredible twist of events that could de-rail Aguero and maybe City’s early season form. The timing coincides exactly with last season’s slump which followed ten successive victories.

We can only join in wishing Aguero a safe and quick recovery.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Yes it does. Two months means he will be back after the international break in November. Three months means he could miss the jampacked December.

        Kane (vc) Lukaku (c) Firmino

3 CS in the first 5. Could easily manage the same in the next 5.

      1. Camp No No
        9 years, 1 month ago

Clean sheets against Swansea, Huddersfield, and Palace. 🙄

In matches in which they managed to score 1 goal combined, and to be fair, those results were generous for them. Both Huddersfield and Palace were unlucky not to walk away with 3 points against Saints, as was the 10-man West Ham.

    2. RIDZ
      9 years, 1 month ago

perhaps you can consider for West Ham or Leicester fixtures

      1. Big_Andy_GAWA
        9 years, 1 month ago

It is hardly 'bad.' There's much worse in the Premier League. They play some attractive football.

        1. Camp No No
          9 years, 1 month ago

Attractive in the sense of not being able to create anything in attack? If we're still talking about Southampton.

    3. Jafalad
      9 years, 1 month ago

A case of form over fixtures. Only their Ds make much appeal...and then they are a little priced compared to NEW, HUD, BUR, etc.

      I am staying well away.

      1. Camp No No
        9 years, 1 month ago

Feel the same. I still have Bertrand from the start, and not rushing to transfer him out with the fixtures, but honestly, that's 1.0 wasted, I could have a 4.5 defender providing the same.

They were unlucky against United. Should have won. Southampton is pretty good, but a little boring.

Hello guys. Planned to Wildcard on GW8 but tempted to wildcard now as I have Jones and Aguero out and Willian most probably will be on the bench. However after a hit team looks in much better shape and not sure whether it warrants a wildcard.

    Foster
    Davies, Jones, Kolasinac
    Willian, Eriksen, Mkhitaryan, Choupo-Moting
    Lukaku, Aguero, Firmino

    Subs: Elliott --- T.Carroll, Suttner, Long --- 0.1 ITB, 1 FT

    A) Willian & Aguero -> Brady & Kane (-4)
    B) Jones & Aguero -> Martina & Kane (-4)
    C) Jones & Aguero -> Valencia & Lacazette (-4)
    D) Wildcard

    1. Pompel

Interesting. So you'd prefer wildcarding now rather than waiting over this gameweek? Taking a hit feels little meh before wildcarding but it's a must if I don't WC now.

I have exactly that 4.3 for Jones replacement if I do Aguero to Kane so Martina looks definitely the best option. Although this would be short term transfer and would trigger me to wildcard on GW8.

Guess not so much focus on 5th mid given Agüero news, but
Andy King (Leicester) at 4.4m - is he nailed? 90 minutes last two matches at least.

With Aguero out for long, I am very very tempted to get Sane in. Now he is almost nailed. Next transfer Mkhi out and Sane in. Lukaku is enough for that wretched set of fixtures that United have.

Another way is to get rid of Kaku and get Jesus but I like the sound of Kaku and Sane better than Mkhi and Jesus.

      1. CaptainKeita

      1. CaptainKeita
        9 years, 1 month ago

I like sterling but Sane is just a better all round player. If he plays he is more involved and his final ball also much better than that of Sterling.

        1. tafrère

Sterling looks like Ox next to Sané tbh.

KDB is better allround player than both. Allround doesn’t matter. Sterling will score a lot more goals than Sane.

          1. CaptainKeita
            9 years, 1 month ago

Look at sane and sterling now. Sane has more points despite having less minutes. Simple logic is that if sane get equal game time then his expected returns should be more than that of sterling. Plus he is not KDB type of player. More direct and play in more advanced position.
