Suddenly the field has cleared again.

Having appeared to be awash with options and configurations up front, Harry Kane is now surely established as the undisputed primary target in attack.

And while Romelu Lukaku toiled in another four-goal victory for Manchester United, the other contenders for our frontlines have lost some ground.

Alvaro Morata’s early withdrawal against Manchester City has temporarily de-railed his burgeoning reputation and Fantasy ownership.

Confirmed as a hamstring issue by manager Antonio Conte, we must now wait on a further prognosis before we can be clear if this is a setback that will knock the Spaniard out.

Thankfully, Conte appears to be playing down the problem but the Morata bandwagon has hit the buffers for now.

With Sergio Aguero sidelined with a rib injury, Kane and Lukaku seem largely unchallenged heading into the break.

Despite his seven goals in as many Gameweeks, that’s a scenario that flatters Lukaku.

With news breaking post-deadline that the Belgian was struggling with a knock sustained in training, the initial thoughts were that he could miss today’s meeting with Crystal Palace.

He started and completed 90-minutes, but was subdued and failed to deliver the anticipated threat to a beleaguered opponent.

Kane, in contrast, was a menace from the first kick against Huddersfield until Spurs shifted down the gears in the second period.

But, typically this season, Lukaku could and should have matched Kane’s two-goals. He rolled a big chance wide before converting a tap-in from Anthony Martial’s centre.

Maybe the Belgian wasn’t fully fit but, in terms of the “eye-test” and pure performance, Kane demonstrated that he is on a different level at present.

My captain selection – switched to Lukaku overnight – was steered by the fears that Palace would capitulate, with the Terriers perhaps presenting a tougher opponent to Spurs.

To an extent that was true. United had more shots and had five big chances to Spurs’ two.

But Lukaku simply did not expose the Eagles frailty and help himself to the big score that I and many others hoped for and expected.

With United’s schedule now stiffening, Lukaku will doubtless suffer some sales, but those losses would be far more severe were it not for the setbacks for Morata and Aguero.

He may well survive in squads with Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus perhaps the most viable and “secure” alternative left standing to partner Kane in our forward lines.

With talk of Aguero returning in four weeks or less, a move for Jesus could also be a short-term measure, aimed at capturing Man City’s plum home encounters with Stoke City and Burnley.

But given that they sandwich a Champions League tie with Napoli, it will be interesting to see if Pep Guardiola attempts to manage the minutes of his only out-and-out striker.

Arguably, those jostling with Kane and Lukaku for our attention have failed to build their case heading into the internationals.

Kane looks untouchable, and while Lukaku is nowhere near as devastating, he continues to prove effective. That might be just enough for now.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Sorry I just wondered if someone could clarify, there's no point in pressing wildcard button now is there? Just make lots of changes for hits so they effect the algorithm and then the wildcard before next gameweek wipes out all hits taken is that right? Thanks for any help.

Gambled before GW1 by getting Jones despite his injury record and it's paid off well so far. Am I pushing my luck too far by thinking about getting Big Andy Carroll in for Joselu?

    1. FantasyNik123

Not really. Joselu is average so its not that big of a deal to get Carroll in.

*Joselu is below average. Well, Carroll's injury record speaks for itself but it's good to own a player you at least have some faith in as opposed to Joselu who makes me think I have major problems in my team every time I see his name.

I'd be downgrading Alonso. It is madness to get rid of Jones. Man Utd love nil nil games against big teams. Look at last year. Liverpool Chelsea and arsenal were all games Man Utd didn't concede. I've personally gone courtios in goal for next four til I wildcard, cheapest way into Chelsea d, so I'd downgrade Alonso to Luiz. Then upgrade naughton or Cedric to a 5.5 city defender. Or arsenal.. Happy days

    Correction Post:

    Forster (Elliot)
Kolasinac Davies S. Ward Naughton (Lascelles)
    Salah Mkhi Groß (Doucoure) (RLC)
    Lacazette Morata Kane

Would you wildcard this lot? Thinking about Chelsea or City defence here.

Is it time to ship Mkhi out of our teams? He seems quite ineffectual of late. Also United's general play is starting to switch to the wingers like the good old days although it could be better if united had a true winger in front of Valencia.

I already have Silva and I'm not sure I want to double down with Sterling or Sane. Maybe, I need to rewatch the MU game a bit to see what CP was doing to contain him and Lukaku.

Palace were very poor. Was more of what united didn't do to exploit the center. Joel Ward was lost today though so he was an easy weak link to target.

Still good after that. May continue play in that free(-ish) right sided role behind Lacazette while Özil is out as he did against WBA.

Other than the Liverpool game which was perhaps his worst in years he's looked good in central midfield. Returns against Leicester and Bournemouth, influential and hit the post at Chelsea. While fixtures are favourable he's good value.

Hmmm, maybe I should take another look then. I'm only regurgitating what I've heard which is never a great idea. Certainly I should look to downgrade Sanchez, anyway, who's been next to useless.

the week after, downgrade Alonso after his palace game to a cheaper defender. Then use that amount to upgrade one of the new midfielders if you want to a 7m midfielder. Or get Aguero with that money for Jesus.

Personally I'd favour Kolasinac over Luiz. The problem you'll have is a lack of maneuverability going forward because of the extremely top heavy attack. It was possible for us all to have that attack on gameweek 1 but we didn't choose that because we want to spread our cash around in order to maximize points. A midfield that features only Silva as a "big" player is very poor in my opinion.

            This is my team.

            Forster (Elliot)
Kolasinac Davies S. Ward Naughton (Lascelles)
            Salah Mkhi Groß (Doucoure) (RLC)
            Lacazette Morata Kane

I've gone with 2 "premium" defenders, 2 "premium" midfielders and 3 "premium" strikers. I've also got 1.3m in the back just in case I was to shuffle things around. That 1.3m can be spent on my midfield when the opportunity arises for its need.

The way I see it, just spread your chips around at the start of the season and then hone in on the very top players later on.

Your're in decent shape, depends how much you want more City and Chelsea assets and if you want to increase team value.

I agree defence could be better, you could still do Löwe to Davies (or Monreal).

Probably don't need to/shouldn't WC, do I? Have 1FT and 0.4mil itb, thinking of maybe just going Miki -> Silva.

    GK: Begovic (Elliot)
DEF: Azpi, Davies, Jones, Maguire (Suttner)
MID: Eriksen, Salah, Miki (Richarlison, Carroll)
