It’s been quite a start to the season for Ben Davies. Currently leading all defenders in terms of points with 49 – a number which trails only Sergio Aguero and Romelu Lukaku at any position – the Welshman’s form is inarguable.

In the six matches in which he has featured (Davies was rested for Spurs’ home encounter with Swansea in Gameweek 5), he has returned an average of 8.2 points per match (ppm) – more than a point clear of his closest rival (Antonio Valencia’s 6.7).

Last season, Davies performed admirably while deputising for the injured Danny Rose – racking up a goal and three assists, in addition to his share of Spurs’ league-leading clean sheet total. However, his attacking returns this campaign (two goals, three assists) have already exceeded last season’s totals in just 30% of the minutes.

In order to better interpret this attacking leap, we’ll be breaking down Davies’ early-season heroics, and looking for players who might serve as good benchmarks for projecting the Welshman’s performance over the remainder of the campaign.

Are Richarlison, Brady & Fellaini viable midfield starters? I think they are... Very cheap too

Fellaini ? If he doesn't start he will always come in for final 10mins. To head the ball away from their box or to be a target.

As you already have Pope and Jesus, bring in Moses and 3 Saints. Who else - maybe Jese.

        A) but maybe Fabianski.also Creswell worth to consider. Not likely to get any attacking returns from any Saints player.

    Good morning!

Would this bench be too expensive? I have basically just picked players I expect to perform well for various reasons. Frustrating points on the bench would hopefully convert into higher TV. I see a lot of wildcards with T. Carroll, RLC and Mbemba. This is a different take in that sense I guess.

    Elliot | Krul
    Davies | Azpilicueta | Monreal | Ward | Simpson
    Hazard | Richarlison | Choupo-Moting | Sterling | Fellaini
    Kane | Jesus | Rashford

    Appreciate any feedback!

I think it's fine. 2x4.5 defenders is a great option if playing 4atb. Mbemba is a trap IMO.

Yeah. Just a headache who to bench. Kinda want to start Fellaini against Liverpool because of his threat from set pieces and Liverpool's inability to defend them. Seems like there are no playing 4.0 defenders at the moment with Mbemba dropped from the squad last time and Mariappa probably not playing when the other Watford guys get back from injuries and suspensions. Then again, he would just sit on my bench as well..

    4. bench boost for every gamew…

      8 years, 2 months ago

Working in the same lines here, i like to have y bench playing and i always have. I like to have good options on the bench which leaves me with better choices whenever injuries toll up, and also saved FT n the sense that when you have a bench of quality you could sometimes just play one of them when one of your starting players are out for say, one game.
Rashford s a good punt, and defense is solid albeit Simpson not the one i would pick, but he goes well with the other and he is there to get CS whenever you need so, i kind of agree on that one. If we talk value ang getting price rises into it i personaly think Maguire is the one with higher potential to increase oth points and aluevise, but then you´d have to make a compromise with Azpi to Luiz or something and Azpi seems to more pop than Luiz. But, Luiz is cheaper and if Chelsea keeping lots of Cs and he does something in one of those games, say, he also would benefit because he is the most secure starter along with the kindliest pricing. Just some thought along the line

      1. Essem
        • 8 Years
        8 years, 2 months ago

Thanks a lot! I think Azpi is the safest starter as it seems he plays WB against tougher opponents and CB against the weaker ones. I also think he played every single minute last season. With the assists he his getting this year I really want him. I realise Simpson isn't the best but I like his price for a rotating defender.

Just Noticed Silva's superority in baps over Sterling

Peopple say they tend to prefer goals but i think in this case Silva is the better option right ?

    - Sterling has 5 Goals but Only 1 Bonus point

    - Silva has 6 assists and 8 Bonus points

Silva will always do better with bps as he can dribble past opponents and creates so many chances but he has no goal threat.

Both are good options the 0.5 saved on Sterling does come very handy.

i wouldnt go on to say he has no goal threat

im not saying undermining sterling. he's a great option right now.

but if i had to pick one between them it would be Silva as he;ll get more baps and more secured minutes

If I had that much money I would go for Sane. Not saying Silva is a bad option but he actually has no goal threat “this season” according to stats and is also not a differential anymore.

I’m personally going with Sterling as I don’t have the money for Sane/Silva.

From what i´ve seen so far he will naturally be assisting a lot of goals but it also will come goals as he tend to pop up inside the box, usually not in the strikers position but in the aftermath of them or he lurks behind the backside of the defenders, tapping in balls, saw it on at least one occasion vs Chelsea and several times in the past. Not much in it but i think something between 4 and 8 goals is what one could expect and if he continues the assisting at this rate he will become the new Fab or Eriksen from last year... at 8.5 even he is value, Sterling is also value atm ofc, 0.5 could be nice to spend elsewhere, granted

Understandable. Player like Sterling makes mistake- wasting scoring chances, wrong passes, fouls... Result in minus pts

Same applies to Alli losing his bonus points

Sometimes I also focusing in Bonus Point System in FPL to compare players, Silva 170 and Sterling 117, it means Silva could be more dangerous and more effective

I think Jonty has given the best answer to this question, he said Get Silva. If Sane or Sterling start to then do better, it's an easy downgrade. It's trickier to go Sterling to Silva for example

Top site. My ca$h league has become more and more competitive. FFS got me my first top 10K finish last season. Well worth the money. Over a 10 month period 12.50 pounds is nothing. The new updates are top drawer as well.

I’m not so sure. I mean you get access to a lot of stats but it’s never easy making sense of those numbers. Often stats can lie too. Stats may tell you Joselu is a better pick than Morata.

For me the biggest help has been reading the comment section on here.

Might start using the members area a bit more when xG/xA are added.

Who is more nailed on Davies or Trippier?

    A) Davies & Francis
    B) Trippier & Daniels

Prefer Daniel's but only if Trippier is nailed once Aurier is back.

Have been stuck on the below for a little while and have got some price rises. Thoughts on this WC team appreciated:

    Fabianski
    Stones, Jones, Trippier
    Eriksen, Sterling, Coutinho
    Kane, Jesus, Vardy

    Elliot, Ward, Fellani, Carroll, Hunemier

A few risks due to prices but have tried to spread the cost across the team to maximise value. Will hope for a Morata, Luiz and RLC fall at some stage to consider them

You need a new back 3 toast. Stones and Trippier not nailed. Jones has tough fixtures. I'd set the season ticker to 10 games and sort by difficulty when deciding on your Wildcard defenders.

    Another subject:
Why do players make transfers before their contracts are up?
    Take a Barkley for example.
Contract runs out at the end of the season.
Talk about a 20 mil tfr in January.
Surely he should hold out for that type of money going to him in wages?
The agents are taking advantage offering poor advice.

    1. FC Lackless [BALEGIUM]

Either poor advice or the agent has put pressure on the player ... ie telling them, 'look mate I've got to make a living too'.

Maybe there is a downside to being a free agent. In terms of uncertainty over future. Plus in summer there might be more completion so easier to land a preferred club in Jan.

      1. Eze Really?

Most clubs have wage structures. No way would they pay Barkley £20m as a signing-on fee or add it to his wages, they'd have the rest of their players wanting parity.

      1. Eze Really?
        • 11 Years
        8 years, 2 months ago

I agree but at the end of the day it is all about economics. Barkley will get more money but it would send a message to all to honour your contract. wenger was right when he said contracts are going to run down more and more.

    Dawson Naughton Lascalles (Lowe Long)
    Salah Silva Brady Atsu (Carroll)

Is it ever advisable to drop a -12 to pull your team out of injury/rubbish hell?

Benefits being a greater selection of captains, price rises, season long starters and a team I hopefully don't have to touch for four weeks?

    1. Goat
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 2 months ago

I was stuck in a rut last season after using early WC. Took -20 around this time and won the mini league I needed to win and 60k overall. So -12 is ok in my eyes if you really really need it

      1. DON BE ZILLY
        • 8 Years

Music to my ears, sir. My Achilles heal, as always, is trying to be too clever in choosing captains, but the constant injuries have just wiped me out this year.

    2. Ruth_NZ
      • 10 Years
      8 years, 2 months ago

If you don't need to touch it for 4 weeks couldn't you stage the transfers so you don't take so many hits? Maybe take GW12 as a target, figure out the squad you want then and then back-calculate the best route to get there.

I think a -8 can be justifiable if you have real problems and know for sure what you want to do. A -12 is pretty radical and I have never needed to go that far myself.

      1. DON BE ZILLY
        • 8 Years

Never needed more than a -8 myself, and I hate the idea. Unfortunately there's no other way to straight swap a bunch of knackered players with spreading the cost around another three spots. I'd only do it to bring season keepers in, personally (Davies, Kane, Jesus).
