Careering out of the international break at speed, the ScoutCast returns in anticipation of a turning point in our seasons.

We’ve been chattering for several weeks on the much anticipated “fixture swing”, and now we’re all set to put ourselves at its mercy.

What does it mean for our Fantasy line-ups?

In truth, with multiple transfers and Wildcards at our disposal, Jonty, Andy, Luke and myself started this latest episode still seeking our own answers. Over almost 90 minutes and with your community questions providing the steer, we do our best to reach some conclusions.

We weigh up Manchester United exit plans, Liverpool’s blunted attack and Jamie Vardy’s recuperation techniques, before previewing Gameweek 8 in the usual hap-hazard style.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Kane(c) for me...not sure whacking the armband on the guy you brought in for a hit is the best way to justify it in this circumstance! I did the same with Mané for his red!

I'd actually play both Martina and Gross over Jones, I think Jones will concede and there is a greater probability of Gross being involved in a Brighton goal or everton keeping a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw than Jones keeping one

Yeah, on wildcard. I can let him go now, he's done his job. 🙂

Haven't 100% decided whether I will yet, though. Might depend what Pep says about Aguero.

          1. @chapellefpl OR 577TH
            9 years, 21 days ago

Looking like letting go would be the smart move. Aguero return seems imminent.

              9 years, 21 days ago

Not sure if I believe that. But put it this way - if I don't feel confident that I'd be able to captain Jesus in GW9 he'll be gone before deadline.

‘Broken rib’ is such a generic statement. He must have had a slight hairline fracture at worst if he is back in full training already.

It must be so hard to fill the Scotland manager position when you think about it

              Wage - Poor
              Potential of team - Little
Expectations of Fans - More than they get

Why would you take the job?

It makes the England job look like good one because at least that pays fairly well

    Stones or Otamendi on WC?

    1. dmcqt
      9 years, 21 days ago

Same issue here. I'm waiting for a second rise from Stones too (it might not happen). I think Otamendi will get more game time, though Stones might score more often. A lot depends on Kompany. I suspect that Kompany might not recover as soon as expected, so hopefully both Stones or Otamendi will play for a while.

      1. E25
        9 years, 21 days ago

If Kompany does get minute, you'd assume Stones would be the fall guy right? Ota does have those pesky yellows building up around the busy fixtures too...

        1. dmcqt
          9 years, 21 days ago

Agreed. Stones is the most likely to make way. But then, as you say, Otamendi is attracting cards. The choice feels almost like a coin toss. Very hard to decide. I suspect I'll keep Stones in until a price rise tomorrow (hopefully) and then transfer him out for Otamendi (am on a WC now).

I'm on WC too but don't have Stones in team yet so at the moment I'd only save 0.1 on him vs ota. I guess on a coin toss you go with the guy 0.1 cheaper :/ Cheers for input

Morata over Hazard i reckon, if anything Morata's returns should be even better when he returns with Hazard behind him! Also debating getting rid of Davies in a couple of weeks, dont think he'll be bringing returns like this all season

    1. Ruth_NZ
      9 years, 21 days ago

Well, he certainly won't be getting hauls on the bench. 😕

Not going to pre-emtively get rid of someone like Davies, no reason why he can't bring in quite a few returns with corners and his attacking play, remember what he got in such little time last season. Agree with you on Morata, would be far more confident captaining him than Hazard

Planning for both when Morata is back.
Agree would captain Morata but not Hazard - too difficult to catch his hauls.

Will wait on presser about Morata but if he's out for one I might hold and make Mkhi - > Silva and roll the second. If not, Morata to Vardy and Ritchie to Sterling?

    Thoughts?

    Hart
    Davies / Cedric / Naughton / Mee
    Salah / Mkhi / Ritchie
    Kane / Lukaku / Morata

    Elliot / Mooy / Carroll / Long

Anyone else tempted to play Tom Carroll over Jones? Would be glowing if he finally gets a return and I decide to play him.

It's tough for me to see MU keeping Pool out, but MC did it and Mane won't be in play.

B.Palace's top points scorers this sesaon are:
    1. Townsend: 13
    2. Puncheon: 9
    3. Milivojevic: 9

    C. Goals scored: 0 Goals conceded: 17

D.Their three most attacking assests all miss the CHE game: Benteke, Zaha, & RLC.

Yeah that's why I was arguing a couple of days ago that bad fixtures can still be good for goalkeepers. If they're really on it save-wise it can mean as many as 3-4 save points plus bonus.

One thing though would be that you'd expect them to display some kind of tightening up defensively. I'll go for 0-2 or something like that.

        9 years, 21 days ago

17 conceded and 0 scored is a frightening stat. I'd expect Woy to have tightened things up a bit alright, but in saying that if CHE get an early goal it will be a long hard 90mins on them! 0-3

If you're on a WC, I wouldn't get rid of Lukaku. Not because I necessarily think he is the best option for the next two, but because he enables an easy swap to Aguero, which is probably going to be a popular move in a couple of weeks. Spread the cash around and you may need to take hits in order to get Kun.

The way I see it, NOT owning Lukaku is in fact a good differential itself. Instead of being scared by it, embrace it. Every time he blanks (which will happen as fixtures get harder now and his form - on the eye test - isn't actually that impressive), or even he only gets 6 points, you have a big chance of making progress against 60% of managers. Too much is made of the high ownership.

I got rid in GW4 on WC and have also been doing very well without him. Switched to Kane (C) for his Everton haul and haven't looked back.

At that price, you need to be captaining him a lot to get real points per million value. Even with the good fixtures lately, Lukaku captainers have missed a trick and Kane / Morata / Aguero captainers have been rewarded. If I owned Lukaku, I wouldn't really want to captain him too often. Not the same fear factor as there is with Kane. So you're paying a premium price for a lot of one goal per game type consistency. It's just not enough imo.

The top 2,097,152 scores from week 17 qualify for the FPL Cup. There are over 5 million registered players now.

Surely it would make sense to allow the first 4,194,304 to qualify, and start the cup a week early?
