Careering out of the international break at speed, the ScoutCast returns in anticipation of a turning point in our seasons.

We’ve been chattering for several weeks on the much anticipated “fixture swing”, and now we’re all set to put ourselves at its mercy.

What does it mean for our Fantasy line-ups?

In truth, with multiple transfers and Wildcards at our disposal, Jonty, Andy, Luke and myself started this latest episode still seeking our own answers. Over almost 90 minutes and with your community questions providing the steer, we do our best to reach some conclusions.

We weigh up Manchester United exit plans, Liverpool’s blunted attack and Jamie Vardy’s recuperation techniques, before previewing Gameweek 8 in the usual hap-hazard style.

This ScoutCast was first beamed live via our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. Be sure to subscribe to get notice of future live episodes.

If you’re a traditional type, you can acquire the mp3 audio version via this link on the first player below, or take in the full visual experience via the second player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Have the exact cash for:

    Phillips & Lukaku -> Fabs & Kun

    Alli, Silva, xxx, Carroll, RLC
    Kane, Jesus, xxx

    Thoughts?

Don’t like. Aguero probably doesn’t start this weekend and Lukaku is the top scorer in the league. Fab hasn’t showed much either.

Does anyone know how to find individual gameweek history from previous seasons?

I’m thinking a bit more about the free hit chip and wanted to see stats for that horrid blank gameweek last year (28?) such as average scores, hits, top 10k average etc.

Apart from the Josh King hattrick, the blank gameweek was pretty horrible and uneventful.

Yeah I know, what I’m wanting to look into is whether it’s worth playing free hit in another week if actually the blank isn’t going to save you loads of points.

You need to factor in all the GWs around the blank if you don't use the free hit.

I'd also be interested in this.

As a side-note, the big blank GW last year was my best in terms of GW rank - went against the flow and only made one transfer (King in), which turned out to be a very good move.

      1. Pooodle

Yeah it worked well for those of us who planned. I just wonder if it’s better to plan again this year with hits etc rather than free hit. Will look into it and might end in a community article on it.

My instinct is that it's surely better to use the free hit rather than plan a series of hits. I wrote this on the subject:

However, I'm sure you could improve on it if you looked at the blank GW stats from last year.

Interesting, thanks. So last season the average score in the blank was 19, and 37 in the top 10k. So let’s say if a similar thing happens this year and you’re aiming on a typical week for a bit more than average it’s looking like perhaps 20ish points, presuming you’re tracking around top 10k performance.

I think you could beat that on a week when a few of the top teams have great fixtures.

Really, average was 19? Wow. I'm pretty sure I got 60-something points.

The advantage of the fh chip is in not having to get players (that you don't want otherwise) in your team prior to the bgw and also taking hits to get a starting 11. And then shifting them out again with hits.

Previous history is worthless as well as the makeup of the blankers won't be the same

      1. Pooodle
        • 16 Years
        8 years, 5 months ago

That’s true to an extent, but if the blank occurs around the cup later rounds you can expect that at least a couple of the top teams will have a blank.

As you say the big problem last year was getting in players you didn’t really want past that week which makes the free hit tempting, but I’d like to look into whether there are other weeks that might give you more points from it.

Best time to play it is

          1. Bgw
          2. Dgw
          Mini gdw
          3. When the big teams play bottom of the league teams at home. (Preferebly in non CL/midweek cup or international week)
          4. When hit with injuries suspensions
          5. Your team has tough fixtures

In your opinion, played mine last week, massive success, massive rank rise, massive leaps in money leagues, no regrets.

If you are unable to plan for manouvering through blank weeks then it don't matter when you use your chips because chances are, you won't be very good at the game anyway.

How on earth did anyone survive in all these years without this chip? Seasons did not implode in blank weeks.

Plenty of people had massive rank rises without the chip so you wasted a chip imo.

Planning for the bgw is a pain so I value the freedom it brings. I was able to field 11 without taking hits last season and captained King so I did well.

The managers who have a fh chip for the bgw will do better than those without that week.

You can only compare it to his old team + whatever transfers. It's got nothing to with how others went.

But he is talking about OR rank rise so he is comparing his team to others 😕

Granted the advantage he got can only be qualified once everyone has played their chip as well.

No, I'm comparing my team to what it could have been, 472k to 24k is not a waste IMO.

Also compare it with regards to money leagues, went from mid table in both to 1st in one, 2nd in another, that move could proven invaluable.

When people go in the blank in a small week, you can be sure that I'll have the same key players to stay with that pack and block their advantage.

Think outside of the box, you are allowed.

Goes without saying TM, the challenge is to use the chip to get ahead and stay there not to use them as a get out of jail card.

One blank week never makes or breaks a season, falling deeper after a poor start or gaining momentum after a good start does.

                        My reply was for GG.
Who knows how fixtures will line up(blank/DGW) and there could be extra DGWs like the Man City/Stoke one or something else that makes the chip more valuable then. Results and the free hit chip lined up for you so well done.

Old team got 61, chip team got 98, put me in touching distance of the top 10k on 445 points after a very average start, in your opinion it's a waste, in my opinion it's changed my season.

If you offered me your free hit chip now for those 37 points I'd decline the offer.

Those 37 points will be used up to field 11 players later during the bgw though.

You will be taking hits before and after the bgw. You will also be limited to specific transfers leading up to the blank gw if you plan to get 11 players without taking hits. Some players even bench the big hitters as well.

Too much hassle imo for 30 odd points

No they won't and I won't try, people obsessed with fielding 11 players in a blank week with minimal potential often find themselves disappointed.

Flip side to your argument is you will be wasting your chip in that week when everyone has the same team and you go nowhere or gain no ground, all you will do is save transfers, planning moves is not difficult, if you struggle, Mark and the team will do it for you.

Good luck with when you chose to use it.

So option 3 is what I’m interested in looking at, and wondering if that could potentially give you more points than a blank or double gameweek, thinking about those last season (such as me) who used TC in the double gameweek and could easily have got more points from it in a single week.

            1. Freddo
              • 8 Years

I got 37 extra points out of mine, that made a big impact for me, not sure id get such an impact in a blank week.

Planning for blanks is not that difficult, don't know why people turn it into a drama, sites like this do the hard work for you if you're incapable.

Because he costs 4 million and jhas played most games.

I would be concerned with the cover considering fixtures. TFR value could suffer also. True, can't have em all but some at least.

No Chelsea cover is scary but looking to bring hazard in gw10 for Chelsea cover. If not hazard maybe Alonso or morata. Sterling is risky city cover but I was 0.1 off silva and not keen on jesus i want to get rid of foster but don't know who to bring in pope or fabianski? And also I already have naughton and mee so it would mean a double up in defence for burnley or swansea

This game outside of the captaincy is about points per million.
Look at defender points this year. You can have 4 big hitters there by having only 2 big hit forwards.

I'd have one if I could but the def is facilitating my soon to be front 7 of:
        *Choupo - Sterling - Silva - Salah
        Kane Lukaku Vardy

2 directions I could take it in a couple of gwks time are Jones to Alonso and Sterling to Richarlison or Sterling to Richarlsion and Vardy to Morata. But we'll see, every gwks an opportunity for more info

Trying a repost on this one from last night. Appreciate your thoughts.

How does this look on Morata return and a turn to decent fixtures for BOU and Daniels? Want double Che and City attack. Going without Kun on his return is a concern and the bench is dire and not good enough for the possible rotation risk of both Jesus and Sane down the line?

    Elliot

    Alonso Davies Jones Cedric Daniels

    Hazard Sane

    Kane Morata Jesus

    Pereira Tarrol A. King Chalobah.

        Thanks BB
Not a WC. Transfers I will need to make are Haz Morata and Daniels in so another transfer is too many hits

I want Haz over Morata I think, allows me to keep Lukaku and Kane who I think will retain consistency.

Defence really is epic there tho!

Yeah have looked at that too. I just think I want Morata back even more than Kun !!

The beauty of Haz is that you can go something like
            Kane Kaku Vardy
            Or Kane Kun Vardy
Both are tempting but that .2 or soon to be .3 difference makes it more difficult.

With the Aguero news, and Morata likely to be fit by next week, who would you go for?
    Would like Morata long term
    A. Morata from the start
    B. Jesus for 1/2 weeks then move to Morata
    C. Batshuayi + cash ITB for Morata
    D. Aguero/Lukaku, would have to downgrade someone in my current team though.

      Worried about Morata right?

I think he will come back soon. Maybe even this week

I think I have cracked the wildmonkey pt 3:

    Popeski

    Ward, Cedric, Bavies, Member, Simpson

    Sterling, RLC, Coutinho, Eriksen, Fellaini,

    Jesus, Kane and Vardy.

What possibly could go wrong 😛

Hard to argue with. Not sure on Fellani tho dude. Also not a fan of Vardy wagon that emerged. Whatever happened to a good old fashioned cheap 3rd striker 🙂

Fellaini - can't argue with a 4.9 Man U player that has scored three goals of late, taking the role of Pogba.

Vardy - 5 goals and has the fixtures. Again, hard to argue against his exclusion as a straight swap for Firmino.

Yes hard to argue with either. Just haven't got the gut feeling. Leicester are in the best of the rest league and not doing so great. Where Bournemouth can keep them out. One win all season? Mmmm

Not had the fixtures to be fair yet Vardy has still notched 5 goals and is on pens.

There just ain't no alternatives. Even I'm trying to fight him but can't resist.

Fellaini is injured isn't he? And surely gotta have Elliot as one of your keepers.

Elliot doesn't get save points. Fabs and Pope are the top for save points and rot very well together.

Fellaini - yes currently injured but it looks he may be back next week so I am happy to bench anyway. Many thanks!

Plus Elliot doesn't figure on the RMT tool in the Members area esp compared to Popeski.
