Manchester City are threatening to break Fantasy Football.

An irresistible attacking force, they appear to be capable of skittling any defence that stands in their way and, in doing so, they are presenting Fantasy managers with an extraordinary array of options.

The challenge, of course, is to exploit their incredible form to the full. This becomes a more thankless task with the passing of each and every Gameweek.

Today’s 7-2 victory over a shell-shocked Stoke City took Pep Guardiola’s side to a total of 17 goals from their last three home matches and 24 from the last five Gameweeks.

I had to go back and re-check those numbers, leaving me wonder if we’ve ever seen a single team provide such a relentless avalanche of Fantasy points.

The underlying statistics are even more staggering.

A tally of 103 shots, 73 of which have arrived in the box with 28 big chances. Guardiola’s side have fired a shot every 4.6 minutes over the past five Gameweeks.

Three City players scored double figures in today’s victory, with Kevin De Bruyne and David Silva also fetching nine and seven points respectively. And this without Sergio Aguero in the mix.

Indeed, the array of choice available has become bewildering.

Raheem Sterling’s 15-points surely underlines his potential during this, his most prolific spell of his career. The “winger” has now scored six goals and supplied two assists over five starts in the last six Gameweeks.

Sterling has been in Guardiola’s starting line-up each time when available from Gameweek 3 onwards and, priced at just 8.0; he surely justifies his rank at the top of our midfield Watchlist. He is already the top transfer target ahead of Gameweek 9’s visit from Burnley.

Then there is Sane.

Perhaps a more traditional wide player, less inclined to tuck inside to flank the central striker, the German has produced four goals and three assists from the last five Gameweeks. However, he has only made the starting line-up over the last three.

De Bruyne and Silva remain the creators. Less explosive, they are nonetheless consistent points scorers that also scream for our attention. The latter struck his first goal of the season today, while De Bruyne chalked up a fifth assist.

It’s difficult to separate the pair, but Silva’s price, at 1.5 cheaper, is surely a key factor. Crucially, as today’s goal indicated, the Spaniard also appears to have upped his direct threat to opponents, adding a new convincing string to his creative bow.

These are just the standout midfield offerings. When we start to contemplate the situation up front, our decision process becomes even more cloudy.

Gabriel Jesus reacted to Sergio Aguero’s return from injury with a brace and a 13-point return today. We now have to consider how Guardiola will marry the pair.

He will surely want to avoid disrupting the almost perfect blend he has discovered, and neither Sane nor Sterling can really warrant exclusion.

Could that lead to Guardiola rotating his two central strikers, or will he revert back to pairing them in attack, sacrificing one of his support attackers?

Jesus owners will be counting today’s points but also looking ahead to the Gameweek 9 meeting with Burnley and wondering Pep’s next move.

But surely we have to question whether Jesus and Aguero warrant our investment regardless.

Even if their minutes are managed from here on, while City’s thirst for goals remains unquenchable, perhaps we just can’t lose.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Currently have a frontline of Kane Lukaku Jesus.
Definitely want to bring in Aguero if he's looking likely to start by next GW.
Should I trade him in for Lukaku or Jesus?

    Anyone else in this boat?

If I had that front three I'd get Kun over Lukaku rather than Jesus.

Wait to see what happens in the CL this week. Possible that Jesus doesn’t play all of that to be fresh for the weekend.

Yep. Would you prefer a jesus playing wide for 60 mins or Lukaku playing up front for 90? I think that'll be the question we face

In the same dilemma mate. Another thing to factor in for me is the prospect of Morata. But I have this gut feeling of saving my FT for this week because Lukaku has an easy game next GW.

Unless whoever I'm bringing in for him gets a double raise, highly unlikely as it may.

I'll only hold the transfer if it seems unlikely Kun will start. Morata will be coming I'm the next GW I think. So this is a one gw plan.

Sterling gets so involved in the right areas. Incredibly high number of touches in the pen area. The only downside is his risk of being rotated. Feel like he's impressed Pep so far though and become a favourite

My VC in the 3 weeks he hauled did just as well. So a lot of cash for a non essential captain?

I’m keeping for now but weighing up Kane and Jesus to Aguero and Morata when they’re all fit. Can’t be having your main captain choice blanking consistently at home to such bad teams.

I think if we are talking an essential player this year it's Morata imo - yeah want Kun too.

I had planned to go without Kane but then got him in last week after Aguero’s injury. But would now quite like Lukaku, Aguero and Morata instead of Kane and Jesus.

            1. Jay_
              8 years, 9 months ago

All about the caps each week or in blocks of 3 or 4. Wish I never had 1m tied in Foster and TFM on my bench. Would quite happily just stick to a base 9 or 10 and just switch the last 1 or 2 spots around for a big hitting captain each week.

Mark came in with a mega success hit today. Otamendi and Firmino to Sterling and Abraham -4.
21 points profit. Still quite an average week. Would've been a terrible week without the hit though.

My hit was Morata and RLC to Hazard and Ayew. You may think that's not bad if it's 3 points net profit, but I turned down Morata to Jesus...

      1. Jay_
        8 years, 9 months ago

All signs were pointing towards Hazard over Jesus yesterday. Don't worry mate, you have Hazard at home next week and Jesus may not start. Just hope Morata don't do well

Cheers - yeah I don't think I'm as annoyed about Hazard over Jesus per se, more the fact that I turned down the chance to have any City at all in favour of a less in-form team in Chelsea.

What made you come around to Richarlison? I remember you not being too keen when I was going on about him 2 weeks ago.

Better stats that King last season. I hadn't watched him play before Arsenal.
Not much value in midfield so tried the early route.

True, I had only seen highlights of his early gameweeks, but those alone made me want to buy him in GW6. Glad I did, it's probably the one thing I've got right all season.

Alonso isn't great value this year imo. Carrick should go eventually for a player who plays football games. Benching Richarlison in current form seems questionable unless he gets banned.

@Fedolefan: that debate about my bench order (Ayew, Lascelles) didn't matter in the end - both of them are coming on! 😀

Haha, I remembered my comment during the games when Bemba omged Ayew and felt bad for you, thinking you lost out on an assist. Luckily, he only got an assist.

Also asked Banananose to bench Jones for Monreal. Hope he didn't listen. 😛 Fairly wretched week for me all around.

Haha, to be fair, your advice yesterday to various people was pretty spot-on, couldn't fault it logically.

Personally, I had Davies and Ramsey no-shows so Ayew gets to come on. He was actually the highest scorer in my team along with Richarlison!

Yeah, I'm getting Jones' points for the Davies no show. I expected a low scoring week for me personally, and it turned out that way, but I was hoping Sterling stayed quiet. Didn't want to lose Salah for him, but it came back to bite me.

Yeah I know the feeling. I did bring it on myself by turning down Jesus and getting Hazard instead - and this without having any other City attackers. I wasn't expecting a good week but at the same time I wasn't expecting 24 (-4) from 8 players...

        I didn't listen 🙂

Yet, it didn't matter. With no Ramsey or Davies, I'm getting both Monreal and Choupo off my bench - the whopping 3 points of it.

Thinking about it. If I keep Ramsey then I have to keep him for Swansea... Wenger has said him and Sanchez had slight muscular niggles, now I'm actually thinking it's best to just get rid.

No cause carrolls 8 points still on the bench. I counted that in the total as its cancelling the double hit

    A) Kane to Aguero if fit
    B) Eriksen to Silva
    C) Davies to Kompany(if fit)/ Luiz

Thinking of dropping a Spurs attack until gw13. 3 tough games in next 4. Anyone else thinking along those lines? I have Sterling and Jesus already so could go Morata if fit also.
