With domestic action resuming this Saturday, we have launched our latest Captain Poll to canvass your views on the best armband options for Gameweek 12.

Following a tough run of fixtures for Manchester United, a home encounter with Newcastle United looks an ideal opportunity for Romelu Lukaku (11.5) to reach the summit for the first time since Gameweek 7. So far, he’s the leading candidate and has earned over 29% of the votes cast.

Despite failing to find the net in his last seven club matches, a brace for Belgium in their 3-3 friendly with Mexico last Friday bodes well for an upturn in fortunes.

The number one forward for sales (76,000+) for a second Gameweek running in Fantasy Premier League, Lukaku has an impressive home record, supplying four goals and two assists in five Old Trafford league matches.

In addition, the Newcastle backline has proved frail on the road, conceding in all but one of their five away days, while captain Jamaal Lascelles may well be an absentee through injury.

A visit to Leicester City means that Manchester City’s wealth of attacking options are among the Belgian’s main rivals for the armband.

However, rotation fears, particularly after a busy international break for many of their key players, may reduce confidence.

Sergio Aguero (11.8) may well lead the charge in our poll. He is the top scoring FPL forward with eight goals and three assists to his name.

However, it’s worth noting that the Argentine may be one of City’s weariest travellers over the break. After two friendly matches in Russia, including a clash against Nigeria tomorrow, Pep Guardiola may decide to ration Aguero’s minutes with one eye on the Champions League match against Feyenoord the following Tuesday.

Gabriel Jesus (10.5), who has started every away match in the league, could be another strong contender. As will FPL’s top scoring player, Leroy Sane (8.9), who has six goals and five assists this term. Over the international break more than 101,000 managers have brought in the German winger, who has four sets of double-digits in the last six.

With Raheem Sterling (8.2) a minor injury doubt, some may instead opt for the security of starts that midfield pair David Silva (8.5) and Kevin De Bruyne (10.1) can offer. Silva has caught the eye over the recent break, bagging a brace in Spain’s win over against Costa Rica.

However, it’s worth remembering that Leicester City won the corresponding fixture 4-2 last season, with Jamie Vardy (8.6) netting a hat-trick.

With Nicolas Otamendi sidelined through suspension in Guardiola’s backline, Vardy and Riyad Mahrez (8.4) could be set to profit. Certainly, the latter is the Foxes’ form player ahead of Saturday afternoon’s encounter, serving up attacking returns in each of his last four league matches.

Harry Kane (12.8) disappointed his 607,000 new owners and the 1.4m FPL managers who captained him with a blank against Crystal Palace last time out. It was the fifth time in six appearances at Spurs’ temporary home that Kane has failed to provide attacking returns. However, his record on the road and in London derbies is stacked in his favour ahead of trip to Arsenal.

Kane has netted twice in each of his last three away outings and has a fine record against the Gunners, scoring in all five league fixtures.

Chelsea’s Alvaro Morata (10.3) is the hottest FPL property up front ahead of a trip to a West Brom side that’s managed just one clean sheet in nine Gameweeks.

After netting his seventh of the season against Man United, the summer signing was also on the scoresheet in Spain’s win over Costa Rica – he’s earned 91,000+ transfers in this Gameweek, more than any forward.

Morata has returned 28 points in his last three away appearances ahead of his visit to The Hawthorns.

Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah (9.4) is another strong candidate this time around, with seven goals and three assists, ahead of Southampton’s trip to Anfield. Since his brace against West Ham in Gameweek 11, the Egyptian has been the top target in the transfer market with 149,000+ more owners.

Rested from international duties over the break, Salah looks a very enticing prospect if he continues in a new central role for the Reds – indeed, he’s joint-second with Kane in the Poll, with over 19% backing.

Among the differential options is Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha (6.8), who hosts an Everton side that has shipped ten goals on the road. Since his return from injury, the Ivorian international has scored in both his home appearances.

Brighton’s Glenn Murray (5.8) is an intriguing alternative ahead of Stoke’s visit to the Amex. The veteran striker has scored four in his last three, while the visitors have conceded 11 on their travels.

And the Seagulls’ playmaker Pascal Gross (5.9) should also be considered, given that he has averaged 7.2 points per match in front of his own supporters.

Finally, Watford’s Richarlison (6.4) hosts West Ham in David Moyes’ first match in charge on Sunday.

Granted, all four of his goals have arrived in away matches, but the young Brazilian has still picked up points against the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal at Vicarage Road.

The poll is now live in the middle column on your homepage on desktop, or via the slide-in menu on mobile and tablet under recent comments.

Remember, we are looking for your vote for the player you think will be most effective, regardless of whether you own them or not.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later ahead of the Gameweek 12 deadline when we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering an analysis of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

Which is better? To make your transfers early and catch price rises and avoid drops or to wait for the pressers and minimise the risk of making a move you later regret?

I'm firmly in the early move camp. This is my 4th season of playing FPL and I can only remember 2 or 3 times when i've brought in a player early who has subsequently got injured. There has probably been another 6 or 7 times when I would have made a different move if I had waited but not all of those would have turned out to be better. I think the majority of FPL managers are far too risk adverse.

Move early if short on funds or know player will rise £0.3m in GW.

Also would advise you have a good bench, just incase

For about 3/4s of the season I generally go early and gamble in order to make the money and also I never start well so need to improve my team.

Come the end of the season I've usually accumulated enough money to play it more conservative.

Like you say, 9 times out of 10 the player I bring in doesn't get injured and quite rarely does anyone else pick up a knock.

It makes it a lot easier with FPL stats though as this is the first season I've used it, so at least you can monitor the market.

Depends on circumstances for me. Early if the funds are tight and you’ll otherwise miss out i.e. if player is about to rise/drop. Otherwise I like to wait for pressers as it’s not just the players you move for that can cause problems but the rest of your squad too. This is particularly important during int breaks or when there’s midweek fixtures

Go early if I really want to player buy (rise) or sell (fall) a player, but generally wait until the last minute if no imminent price change is likely or the player is just 'nice to get' rather than 'really must have' ...

Hi guys, I need help here.

    My team:

    GK: De Gea, Joel Pereira
DEF: Azpi, Davies, Moreno, Jones, Gomez,
MID: Sterling, Salah, Sane, Richarlison, Colback
    FW: Aguero, Kane, Quaner

    0 ITB

Any ideas on who to change??

Commented on previous article before I saw this one had been published...

      Essential to get rid:
      -Periera
      -Colback
      -Quaner
(With fixture build up, no place for non-starters (Periera lower risk, but still not advisable)
      -one of Gomez and Moreno
(double Liverpool defence is up there with looking for hairs on the palms of your hands)

Should get rid but not as urgent
      -one of Gomez and Moreno
(any Liverpool defence is generally a bad idea)
      -Davies
(first choice, but this means playing the big games and UCL rather than the freebies v Palace, Bournemouth and Swansea)

Assume you will need to fund shipping the non-starters, so maybe Kun to Morata/one of Sterling/Sane to Zaha?

    Best 3rd striker option?

    A) Niasse or Awey or DCL

    B) Abraham or Murray

    C) Vardy or Firmino

    D) Kane - Kaku - Morata

An injury to Jesus or Aguero also makes the other one close to essential.

yeah I know. He's a great option Sane, but that doesn't make Silva a bad one either. I've watched every City game this season and Silva could have had a lot more points as well quite easily. In short, get Sane, but don't be dropping Silva for him

But, how can you leave 2 of kane, kun, lukaku and morata?
I'm in same position and I think I want as premium strikers as possible

Kun I can justify as he'll get rotated. Morata maybe less explosive.

Easy, you convince yourself that the rotation risk means Kun is overpriced and remember that Lukaku is a flat track bully and watch Citeh and United games from behind the sofa. Done 😉

FWIW I have no Kun or Kaku and don't feel too bad about it

Which move is best for -4?
      A) alonso + rooney to lukaku + dann
      B) alonso + rooney to morata and alder
      C) walker and rooney to dann and lukaku
*will buy christensen if he proves to be nailed or courtois later after liverpool vs chelsea.
      Currently thinking about B

B is best, but personally i'd keep Alonso for now

I have had him for 5-6 weeks. No return yet. 1.5 more than christensen not worth it

This just reeks of ditching before a haul - particularly with Chelsea's fixtures coming up. I understand the desire to ditch, but I reckon it'll come back to bite you.

            If I *had* to - B.

I'm sacrificing a haul for another haul
Morata is probably more explosive. Isn't he?

I wouldn't say necessarily - given Alonso threatens on goal out of position and can also score clean sheet points.

I'm not saying it is a bad move - I just think that Alonso will score a haul in the next four gameweeks that you have to prepared to miss. Over the course of six-eight gameweeks, I believe Morata and Toby A would outscore Alonso and Rooney by more than 4 points comfortably though.

I would - and then I would find a comfy place behind the couch. And get ready for a dose of regret.

Kane scores v teams who aren't set up simply to avoid conceding and so like his chances this week. Maybe less so next week.
Lukaku likes to bully bad teams but hasn't looked anywhere near as effective since PP got injured. Also, Newcastle and Brighton likely to park the bus so will limit his opportunities

        I am sticking with Kane

Until I see him doing what he did in August/September, I am disinterested in any non-Phil Jones United assets

        I wouldn’t do that.

But if I didn't own both I would fancy Kaku to outscore Kane over the next 2.

Getting rid of Jesus this week and I already have Sterling and D.Silva, so who's the best option?

      A. Kaku
      B. Morata
      C. Kun

Sick of worrying about Peps rotation so maybe Kun isn't the best idea

Haven't made the transfer yet but I think I'll go Kaku for next 2-3. I have Hazard though.

      2. bench boost for every gamew…

not sure, but the ones where Kun was on the bench after his rib accident was coincidental, Jesus is faster so maybe a factor away?

I chose Kun because i suspect he is the one with most potential, he plays striker even if Jesus is on the field and feels lik Pep have recognised that he is their main man. I don´t care if he plays 25 minutes in some games, he wil score then too if City plays like they do now. Just look at Jesus last week, he was vey close to get two in half an hour.

Best GK to go along side Elliott, all things considered (price, team, fixtures, form etc)

Ideally in the 4.0-4.5m range, might it truly exceptional circumstances consider a bit higher...
