Having witnessed Harry Kane fail to produce a goal or an assist in five of his previous home matches, the striker’s two million Fantasy owners will have been anxious ahead of his run-out against Stoke City.

But Kane banished those doubts by helping himself to a pair of goals and a 12-point return as Spurs routed the Potters at Wembley Stadium.

As expected, it was perhaps Stoke’s incompetence rather than Spurs’ form that was the major factor in Saturday’s contest.

Mark Hughes side had already conceded 30 goals prior to the 5-1 defeat, second only to West Ham who had shipped 32. Perhaps more significantly, they had allowed 35 big chances – more than any other side.

Those statistics were always likely to play into the hands of Mauricio Pochettino’s attack, who eventually ran riot following an early own goal from Ryan Shawcross.

It was Son Heung-min who provided the assist for that opening strike, with his deflected cross turned in by the Stoke skipper.

The South Korean, rather than Kane, was Spurs’ star performer, producing a goal and two assists to claim 16 points. Son now has four goals and those two assists from his last six Gameweek starts.

Owned by just 1.8%, he could yet be a factor in our seasons on this form. Certainly, if he can cement a starting role, Son is currently promising to outpace both Chrisitan Eriksen and Dele Alli as midfield options.

That pair were also in the points, Alli returning his fourth assist of the season, while Eriksen got on the scoresheet to notch his fourth goal.

Both have suffered huge ownership losses in recent Gameweeks and, despite Saturday’s points, that’s unlikely to be reversed given the competition for places in Fantasy midfields.

But Kane is starting to look unopposed as the premium striker option.

He rewarded the 1.1 million who made him the Gameweek’s top captain pick, a total which included 36 of the top 100 FPL managers.

With Morata failing earlier in the day at West Ham, Romelu Lukaku off form and the Man City options still engaged in a job share, it’s surely difficult to overlook Kane following his latest Wembley returns.

He had seven shots with three big chances today – more than any other player in the Gameweek.

He now has four goals from his last four Gameweeks, is second only to Mohamad Salah in the overall standings (94 vs 113) and will surely be the leading captain pick for Wednesday’s Gameweek 17 home meeting with Brighton.

Subject to over 105,000 sales prior to today’s return – with a net loss of 36,000 owners – Kane is already the most bought player ahead of Tuesday’s 6.45 deadline.

Spurs defence remains a no-go

While Son and Kane inspired the attack, there is little amongst Pochettino’s rearguard to tempt Fantasy interest.

With the injured Toby Alderweireld still sidelined and Davinson Sanchez ruled out through suspension, Spurs were short on options. They duly shifted to a back four and a 4-2-3-1, a formation that pinned both Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier as full-backs.

That pair still raided forward, providing 12 crosses as Davies contributed a hanging centre for Kane’s first goal – the fourth assist of the season from the Welshman.

But with Serge Aurier and Danny Rose doubtless lined up for starts against the Seagulls, there is little currently security on offer. And with just one clean sheet from the last eight Gameweeks, the frailties created by Alderweireld’s absence remain an issue.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

He wasn't rested though because he started. He was taken off because he was quite poor and was giving the ball away. You don't rest your players by subbing them off when you're losing.

Not really interested in DeGea. It's the difference between Groß and Ramsey. Can do alot with that 1.2m I'd like to rather spend it on a midfielder

      1. We Will Klopp you
        • 9 Years

True, if Morata does well it will be tough to do anyhow. Plus plenty have done well with cheap keepers, it's a luxury more rather than a necessity. I have no-one in midfield id like to upgrade so it's the DDG route for me if I do make the Morata to Firmino switch

May also do the same, but DDG has the better fixtures so such more for me depend on whether Firmino is keeping up with Morata or not which releases the funds, in no rush to get rid of either

I looked at Mariappa but with Femenia and Zeegelaar out Watford won't be playing the wingback system which leaves space for only 2 CBs - making Mariappa an even bigger risk.

11 men behind the ball looking for a draw and we couldn't break them down. I'm sure they'll come back firing on Friday.

Brought Alonso on for Mustafi last night.

Aside from today's showing is he worth keeping?? I thought having him over Xmas period was a great idea. Subbed off for having a bad game doesn't feel me with confidence.

    What do owners think??

Considering getting rid, but Chelsea still have great fixtures. Won't be getting rid for a hit.

I'm keeping for now, Chelsea's fixtures are good for a while and I'm confident they'll start to get clean sheets again soon.

Downgraded him to Christensen to fund Daniels to kolasinac, hoping it yields more points

  25. mchugho

    Foster/(Elliot)
    Kolasinac/Alonso/Davies/(Zanka)/(Daniels)
    Salah/D. Silva/Doucouré/Ritchie/(Cork)
    Firmino/Morata/Vardy

    1 FT, 2.3mil ITB

I see Elliot >> DDG as a no brainer this week, but I'm guessing Davies doesn't start this week, and as his bench replacements are facing United and Chelsea do you think it is worth a hit to get him out for say Cahill or someone?

      • 8 Years

If you didn't have so much money in the bank and only 1 FT I would work towards downgrading Davies and putting that money into midfield

    2. Salah’s Sonnet

Absolute priority would be sorting out that midfield imo.

Based on your post at the top of the page I hardly think you're the best to be handing out Chelsea advice.
Unless maybe Conte is resting him most weeks!! 😉

Zeegelaar > Kabasele tonight before price rise?

I wouldn't hold Zeegelaar through the ban. Kabasele nailed at least and only a few days to next game so should be alright.

He didn’t rise so I can think about it tomorrow, seems like a no brainer given his fixtures... just hate that I only just bought in Zeegelaar this week...

I can imagine the frustration. I didn't even bring him or Kiko in yet but I was going to this week. I was set on them as solid reliable medium to long term options but now I need to find another and not sure if Kabasele is the same value. I might just look elsewhere like Masuaku

Best replacement for Sakho? I have 4.9 to spend, fancied Kiko.

    My defence is:

    Alonso, Otamendi, Mee, Sakho, Hunemier

Maybe a Liverpool Def. I have Moreno and probably have to trade him and I would probably go for a Liverpool defender but feels way too sideways and not as nailed as what I probably need. I'd go for any nailed 4.5 with those other defenders. Someone to rotate with Mee

    My def is disastrous atm

    Ota
    Moreno (injured)
    Sakho (injured)
    Daniels (poor fixtures)
    Hunemeier (not nailed)

Plan is to keep Sakho since he's having nice fix ahead so Moreno and Daniels has to go, for a hit. Thoughts?

Also I'm looking at Ogbonna, cheap, nailed, offers attacking return and I think WHU def has gotten better under Moyes.

    1. La Gazzetta
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 4 months ago

I think Masuaku looks better than Ogbonna but not sure if one is more nailed than the other. I think keeping Daniels would be wise in that situation. Bournemouth have been tough for the big teams to break down this year. Depending how long Sakho is out for I would trade him and Moreno. Even if they're only out 2-3 weeks it's a lot of games missed

Actually I have exact amount of $ to do Moreno&Daniels (8.6) to Ogbonna&Kenny (8.6). I don't see any better 8.6 combo atm. Mariappa is another option but i thin WAT def is way too unconvincing. But i guess you made a good point, need to wait about Sakho's situation

        1. La Gazzetta

Yeah that's about as good as it gets for that budget. Both a bit risky but might get away with one playing each week as a back up (4th and 5th def). Agree with Watford defence. Glad I waited on that move as I don't want to make it anymore

I got mixed up, actually Moreno&*Hune (8.6) to Ogbonna&Kenny (8.6) leaving me with Ota-Daniels-Sakho-Ogbonna-Kenny. I know is kind of too weak but I think even big teams don't keep CS these days so better go with cheaper def.
